I mean, WTF? He has disciples (as one journalist observed).

Ive totally gone off Alec Guiness now as all JC -(even the initials!!!!) needs is a long brown cloak with a hood like a bloody Jedi master.

And hell be walking on water next!

What is it about him that has thousands signing up for Labour membership?

I WAS a Labour member but because of him Ive left .

genuine question, what influence is he having, to make him followed like a deity?

Have you seen this article? Jeremy Corbyn apparently walked past empty seats on the train to sit on the floor and be filmed.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/aug/23/jeremy-corbyn-virgin-trains-disputes-claim-over-lack-of-seats?CMP=share_btn_link

I do actually think he is a man of principle - he has shown that repeatedly by standing up for what he believes in. (Whether this is a good thing or whether it means he is blinkered is a different question).

I do not think that means he is a man of integrity. That is something different. On evidence so far - both the most recent train debacle and also on his lukewarm support for Remain (including his lamentable call for art 50 to be invoked the day after the referendum result) - he is not entirely straightforward.

StripeyMonkey1 · 23/08/2016 17:40

Ha- I'm late with this! Let's hope this gives Owen Smith the boost he so desperately needs.

NNChangeAgain · 23/08/2016 17:42

The whole thing demonstrated a lack of competence and poor prioritisation even before it was exposed as a publicity stunt.
Now, it just reinforces the message from Owen and others that is he incapable of leadership.

Either, he deliberately set up the scenario to manipulate the media and prove a point (and did it so badly that he got caught out), or, he is so incompetent at life, that he doesn't know how to read reservation cards on train seats. Whichever it is, this is not a man I'd feel confident with in charge of the big red button. You can imagine it, can't you - "did they say press the button, or don't press the button?"

BTW, does anyone know if the Conference is going ahead? A few days ago, there was still a real problem with the security contracts.

caroldecker · 23/08/2016 17:54

Not incompetent - walked past empty seats with no reservation cards. Basically:
Misogynistic
Anti-Semitic
Liar

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 23/08/2016 18:05

The man of principle peddles a lie to provide a back up story for one of his proposals

On top of that its presented as he too suffered with the ordinary people Halo

Grin

Still his supporters will dismiss this what as this time a set up, an insider in his camp, camera trickery

I loved Smith's response on Twitter

mathsmum314 · 23/08/2016 18:21

I don't know about being leader of the Labour party, but how many want someone running the country that films himself sitting on the floor at the bottom of a train toilet door. Imagine what Trump or Putin would do to a pathetic old man like that.

merrymouse · 23/08/2016 18:34

Even the spin is incompetent - wasn't he aware of cctv?

This really won't damage his leadership prospects, but it puts labour even further away from being a competent opposition, never mind government.

JigglypuffsCaptor · 23/08/2016 19:11

What an absolute farce this has turned out to be! Slimy Jeremy caught out telling porkies! I love it!

His supporters will dismiss it though, like everything else this oaf does!

Jacobbay · 23/08/2016 20:38

Corbyn is the gift that keeps on giving

tripsymae · 23/08/2016 21:22

Interesting blog piece from a staunch Labour supporter about Corbyn and his involvement (or, maybe, lack of it) in the EU campaign:

underthreehundred.blogspot.co.uk/2016/08/here-there-and-everywhere.html

Corbyn's PR team don't seem to be working very well for him. Maybe he doesn't care, or maybe they don't care. For a "man of principles", he doesn't seem to have figured out that the principal job of the leader of the Labour Party is to win the next general election. Which he won't do if he keeps pissing off Labour Party supporters.

That was such a cheap, staged, photo-op of him sitting (unnecessarily) on a train floor.

mathsmum314 · 23/08/2016 23:11

Maybe JC is trying to do everything he came to get out of the role of being leader? Maybe he is revealing he is out of his depth?

BungoWomble · 25/08/2016 07:40

I don't know what went on with Corbyn's train story, but overcrowding on our inadequate and expensive trains is a fact as anyone who used them would know. I also like his mention of bus services. It is a known fact that our privatised train services are more expensive and inefficient than the partly-state-run ones on the continent, yet I usually find that when buses and trains are on similar routes, the bus is more expensive. I think they've been ignored for so long because of class issues - trains used to serve the middle classes and buses the working classes.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 25/08/2016 08:37

Yes it is an issue along with bus services being cut

But then many more people have cars now. The amount of buses I see that have just a few passengers is ridiculous there has to be a more efficient way of providing a service

Corbyn being caught out and spinning a story an also an issue

It's not quite a different type of politics is it

AllThePrettySeahorses · 26/08/2016 13:13

Oh gawd, is he that incompetent? A normal person would just resign ...

Actually, I can believe that Wink

mathsmum314 · 26/08/2016 15:15

AllThePrettySeahorses

Sadly I think he is that incompetent, apparently he can't even book a company to do security at his conference. Hmm

I watched his 'debate' with Owen Smith last night and he seemed to read every answer he gave from a script. Hasn't he been campaigning for the same opinions his whole life but he now needs note to remember what they are. Confused

caroldecker · 26/08/2016 15:36

Where is the evidence that European railways are more efficient and cheaper?
this comparison shows UK train fares are generally cheaper than in the EU and data on subsidies and costs is not collated equally by each country.

BeckerLleytonNever · 26/08/2016 15:48

carolDecker I never understand why the UK cant have an efficient public transport service like Japan.

Anyway, why didn't JC get a ''normal'' train, a subway train or something at rush hour, jam packed like sardines, face in soemones armpit, no air.

that would have been taken more seriously.

as for owen smith...dear ohdear..... no ones the lesser of 2 evils...like the trump/Clinton thing! (not the same but you know what I mean!).

OP posts:
Blackberryandapplejam · 26/08/2016 16:34

It seems the Labour Party conference may not be able to go ahead now due to lack of appointing a security company in time. What a total shower.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 26/08/2016 17:16

That's not really a problem for Corbyn is it Hmm

Corbyn shall be giving a talk at the momentum conference and shall be cheered on with enthusiasm with no oppostion to everything he says and this is far more important as these people are the grassroot supporters

Not the electorate that voted in all of the labour mp's their voices really don't matter anymore unless they of course support him which not many do judging by local elections and opinion polls

caroldecker · 26/08/2016 17:27

Japan, where they employ people to push everyone on the train as it is so crowded and need to employ undercover female police because groping is so common - much better than the UK

Blackberryandapplejam · 26/08/2016 18:16

Ooh, I spoke too soon. It's all back on now.

AllThePrettySeahorses · 28/08/2016 20:58

His foot's firmly wedged in his gob again. Apparently he doesn't think he's wealthy now, on his mere £138,000 a year. You can't begrudge the money to someone in that position but is an effing huge wodge of money whatever way you look at it. Unless you're a Corbynite, in which case you'll tie yourself in knots trying to say it isn't much at all.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 28/08/2016 22:48

Well it's not to a man who has
lived a privileged life

A career being a back bench rebel mp has given him a pension of £1.6million

Of course his supporters they will tie themselves in knots telling us that many who work in the city earn much more blah blah

It's irrelevant if he is unable to see that earning that wage puts him in the wealthy bracket to the vast majority of the ordinary people he is always talking about he is totally out of touch

mathsmum314 · 28/08/2016 23:33

a millionaire trying to pretend he is one of the principled working class is pretty funny. If only he was able to drag the poor down to his level.
