piglet - once again you are just obsessed with this "theft of land" issue. Seriously, Jews all over the world all throughout history have been persecuted and thrown off their land. Why do you think so many Sephardic Jews are in Israel? They were FORCED from their homes. All their property confiscated! There is no possibility for the Right of Return for the Palestinians. It will never happen under any Israeli government.

We can argue all day and night. NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE. I heard a quote that sums it all up perfectly. THERE WILL BE PEACE WHEN THE PALESTINIANS LOVE THEIR CHILDREN MORE THAN THEY HATE THE ISRAELIS. I think it was Golda Meir.

Instead of constantly only criticising the Israeli's - start pressuring the Palestinians. Have you all forgotten about their barbaric ways? Suicide bombs in cafes, on buses and in public markets. They celebrate death. There are always extremist on both sides. Neither side is without fault. Just stop blaming. Start pressuring for PEACE from the Palestinians. There is no hope for a future until they can focus on building themselves up as a nation instead of only ever trying to take down Israel.

Israel is not going anywhere.

mumof2andlovingit · 15/12/2014 22:44

forgot to post this link...10,000 displaced. This is crazy! Egypt doesn't want anything to do with the Palestinians in their land. They close their borders too. Not just Israel. Any nation will do what it takes to protect it's citizens from terror. It's called border control. Every nation has it. Is Israel not allowed? why the double standard?

I gather you support Israel's policy that people's right to return, and ownership of their home and land, should be conditional on their ethnicity or religion.

You will not find much support for this.

In most countries, such discrimination on racial, ethnic or religious grounds would actually be illegal. It is of course in contravention on the European Convention on Human Rights, but Israel is not a European country, and has no respect for international law or norms of behaviour.

I hope you will not be too disappointed to see Europe's support for Israel diminishing.

labslondon · 15/12/2014 23:08

I think things have to change re. israel and the golda meir quote is totally irrelevant - especially when you compare it with these other israeli leaders' quotes admitting their ethnic cleaning, racism and land grabbing tactics:

Coachbella · 15/12/2014 23:18

Oh we know Europe - no more needs to be said

Persimmon5 · 15/12/2014 23:20

Louise 189 Nice to see a non confrontational comment! One of problems (and only one, but a rather big one) is that according to Hamas Charter negotiated settlement is expressly prohibited & Jihad terror is the only answer & indeed obligation. Perhaps why all aid to Gaza is spent by Hamas on rockets & terror tunnels - not about land ( never wanted it when Jordan & Egypt controlled West Bank & Gaza) rather about destruction of whole of Israel - so many offers from Israel of land deals over years in exchange for coexistence/peace ALL rejected . Never outrage from world over continuous rockets from Gaza ... Only time anyone has something to say is if Israel acts to protect it's citizens - and one thing I challenge anyone reading this to deny is that if the rockets & Hamas terror stops then the war stops (Israel's actions are defensive) but if Israel stops defending then Hamas will wipe it & them off the map. It's not just a threat, look at what's going on around the world just to name a few beheadings, IS, Boko Haram, Australia today who knows where tomorrow - a long long sad tragic list...And they will not stop at Israel either ....

PigletInABlanketJohn · 15/12/2014 23:23

yes, Europe (like everywhere else) has been through some very dark days of rabid nationalism, and racial, ethnic and religious oppression, and is making attempts to repress such fascist tendencies.

It is disheartening to see a nation which has suffered so much taking on the mantle of the oppressors.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 15/12/2014 23:28

A lot of new posters have joined MN just to post on this thread tonight.

PigletInABlanketJohn · 15/12/2014 23:28

Hello, Persimmon5 , and welcome to Mumsnet.

Louise189 · 15/12/2014 23:28

Can you imagine there being peace in this part of the world?

Louise189 · 15/12/2014 23:29

Thank you PigletInABlanket

Persimmon5 · 15/12/2014 23:34

Hi PigletInaBlanketJohn First time on this news thread topic and wondering what I missed in Parts 1-6 !

PigletInABlanketJohn · 15/12/2014 23:48

if you manage to read the 27 pages of this one, it will save you raking over old ground.

Nippernoo · 15/12/2014 23:59

This is what irritates me, the whole ethnic cleansing of Palestinians spouting. Go to Israel, talk to the majority of the Israeli Palestinians, they have rights, they vote, they go to University, they are in the Knesset, there is no ethnic cleansing!! Israel keeps offering peace but last time they returned land, tey immediately started firing rockets on Israel. Stop spouting hate against Israel on this site and promote peace!!! Israel and the Palestinians have to sit down and talk and stop this madness, no more you did this you did that. Stop the terror, sit down and talk and there can be a two state solution, but not while borders are threatened by terrorism. This is MumsNet, all mothers should want this whether they are Israeli kids or Palestinian kids, do we want them hurt? of course not, so lets talk peace and stop throwing accusations

PigletInABlanketJohn · 16/12/2014 00:28

"There is no ethnic cleansing"

Just to check, do you sincerely believe that to be true?

What country were you in when you heard it?

labslondon · 16/12/2014 00:33

Of course palestinians are ghettoised and being ethnically cleansed. They have no university in Gaza, it was destroyed this year - see links two and three below.

Palestinians have no dignity, nevermind rights: www.timesofisrael.com/ex-mossad-chief-peace-will-elude-us-until-we-treat-palestinians-with-dignity/?utm_source=The+Times+of+Israel+Daily+Edition&utm_campaign=0a6676b903-2014_12_14&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_adb46cec92-0a6676b903-54400445

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 16/12/2014 00:33

Sounds like you think we haven't read these: Amnesty International reports.

I've followed these threads from the beginning. Haven't posted on the last few - but with new posters joining in droves to write posts like Nippernoo's above, it seems we're just going over the same old ground. "Oh the IDF want peace, as long as they can bomb the fuck out of Gaza to get it, and that peace is all on the IDF's terms."

So I think I'll give the Amnesty reports more weight than the posts of a few new joiners on MN.

Nippernoo · 16/12/2014 00:35

See there you go again Piglet, read your history and you will see what ethnic cleansing is, look at ISIS re. christians if you want to understand ethnic cleansing. What country were you in when you heard it????? Promote PEACE stop inciting hate through untruths, do you think it is okay for terrorists to indiscrimately attack? do you understand "from the river to the sea"?

Nippernoo · 16/12/2014 00:44

Yes Sabrina, you also don't want to promote peace, did I mention IDF, they are the army protecting their people, do you think the people in Israel want this constant fear, of course not, do people in Israel want to see Palestinian civilians killed? of course not, do they want to sent their sons and daughter into the IDF risking their lives? of course not. If WE cannot discuss peace, looking at the truth, what hope is there? You ignore me if you do not have answers, I am sick of people joining in the bashing game who do not look at all the attrocities going on in the world and not saying a thing

labslondon · 16/12/2014 00:56

If the IDF want peace, let the palestinians have their land back/ access to their towns. Check the former israeli prime ministers in the link/ video I posted above (at 23:08) - they admit they turfed palestinians out of palestine - so why lament the consequences of such a horrendous action; why not just correct it.

Yruapita · 16/12/2014 01:06

Ok nippernoo, what do you propose to be an acceptable deal to promote peace and trust?

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 16/12/2014 01:09

Nipper - It's not me joining MN to defend the IDF's disproportionate bombing of Gaza, killing many hundreds of civilians- not a very peaceable thing to do, that. Not particularly conducive to peace.

Yruapita · 16/12/2014 01:25

Oh, for those posters constantly saying how great a democracy israel is and how its the only democracy in the middle east and so much like UK rather than its neighbours, when it comes down to it, they would choose apartheid over democracy.

Peace means returning stolen land. Israel is unwilling to return stolen property.

Oh and coachbella, Israel needs Europe and US. Its not doing itself any favours by sleepwalking deeper into apartheid and pretending that Palestinians and Arab Israelis are so happy, free and equal.

Yruapita · 16/12/2014 01:28

IDF want peace do they? Is smearing IDF excrement all over destroyed Palestinian houses a step towards peace? Silly me, I misinterpreted their peaceful gesture.
