Here goes....

OP posts:

hope I haven't offended anybody with the evilbible link - I thought the site was a bit more tongue in cheek than it appears to be on closer examination.

Platypus - I have been very careful in saying in my posts that there are many liberal Jews and Israelis. I have met some of them and know for a fact that they exist. Some of the most vehement critics of Israel are Jewish intellectuals.

My point was that the Jewish people you referred to who live in Europe and just pop over to Israel for their holidays have rather a different world view to the vast majority of Israelis, especially those who live in the settlements.

It has been been widely reported in the press that the vast majority of Israelis are supportive of the current invasion of their neighbour.

mimoyello · 03/08/2006 07:40

Platypus - I was very pleased to see that one Israeli soldier went to his officers last week to say that he absolutely refuses to fight in Lebanon. He said the war against Lebanon was totally unjustified and he wished to have no part in killing civilians.

He was slammed into prison straight away, but I read in the papers that several other Israeli soldiers have followed suit. I applaud them. It takes a lot of guts to oppose the Israeli army.

I must say that evilbible link does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

lisalisa - I'll ask you once again. Do you accept that the Palestinians and Lebanese people have as many human rights as the Israelis? you continue to ignore the question.

Caligula · 03/08/2006 11:08

Lisalisa you also declared earlier that "it is a fight to the death" between Israel and its Arab neighbours. Which I can't really read any other way, than that you believe the death of Arab nations is the only means of guaranteeing Israel's survival. Please do correct me if I'm over-interpreting your comment (I know you will!) but you didn't answer me when I asked if your world-view was really that nihilist, so I'm still curious to know if that is what you really think.

Who in their right mind indeed lisalisa? I'm afraid it is extremely difficult to agree with your view that Israel is`a peace seeking nation. As I think many here might agree. Anyway, anyone who uses the term 'I deem' has to make me laugh.

while i haven't agreed with the tone of some of the more aggressive postings here, I am a bit speechless at your tone of victimization lisalisa. Of course everyone who wants to post here should. Perhaps those who disagree with Israel's current actions should remain silent less they should be accused of anti-semitism. all I can say is

PAAAAARP.

ruty · 03/08/2006 11:42

and gosh you are extremely rude.

i you'd bothered to read any of my earlier posts you will see I have always said Israel's people deserve to live in peace without fear. I'm glad things are so morally black and white for you Lisalisa.

In my first post on the matter I said it was a torturous situation for both sides. Lisalisa, I think if you had been less morally indignant and self righteous about the whole thing you wouldn't have got some of the responses you did. [not that you deserved them.] If you had just once acknowledged any fault on the side of Israel I for one would have felt much more sympathy for your argument. I am sorry you feel so attacked. I think the current situation in Israel and Lebanon makes people feel extremely upset, and I think that is why people have been so outraged and emotional.

ruty · 03/08/2006 11:59

I know well my name is Hebrew lisalisa - I was brought up to know the Old Testament well.

ruty · 03/08/2006 12:00

and the book of ruth is a great book!

Caligula · 03/08/2006 12:19

Expat was attacked? My recollection is that she said anyone who disagreed with what Israel is doing atm, is just posturing and PC hippie wannabees or something along those lines. In other words, people don't really believe what they're saying, they're just pretending to be upset by what's happening in Lebanon. What on earth reaction does that kind of comment deserve, really? Of course she was attacked, if that's the word you want to use.

And all these people who are really in favour of Israel attacking Lebanon, why don't they post on here giving what they believe are the valid reasons, instead of e-mailing you about it? WTF is the point of that, they're preaching to the converted - you already agree with them! Honestly, I really can't get my head around that one.

Caligula · 03/08/2006 12:43

Oh btw lisa thanks for your clarification on the fight to the death thing - it had been niggling me.

bluejelly · 03/08/2006 12:49

are people really leaving mumsnet because of perceived anti-semitism?
