Why can't you see the relevance of it? You hate every single member of the Armed Forces, so I wanted to know how you would react if your DS joins up at 18. You won't be able to stop him.

I haven't ever said I 'hate every member of the armed forces' I have said I hate the armed forces and I don't respect the people who choose to join it. If you are asking if I would respect his decision the answer is a firm no. Of course I can't stop him. Anymore than I could stop him getting a tattoo saying 'knob' on his forehead but that doesn't mean I approve of it.

There is no agenda, quite a few people on this forum feel the same way about the armed forces by the look of my 'I'm on' threads.

You are part of it whether you be a student of social work like my niece who is doing a post grad in it or a trainee doing a 3 yr undergraduate degree (reading for a degree implies studentship) via the HCPC. So you can resign from that after you have argued very pointless semantics whatever you call yourself. BTW my ASW peer supervisor calls her trainees student SWS's so I guess she's been getting it wrong all her 23 yr career.

You cannot possibly work with ex service people because you will be condoning war and armies as a viable and worthy entity. That contradicts everything you have said so far. You will become part of the problem unless of course you refuse to do anything to help them and then see how long you last.

So using your own argument you need to resign before you compromise those lofty principles.

I can work with service people same as I can work with drug addicts. I don't have to agree with the way someone lives their life on a personal level to deal with the professionally.it's all part of the training. But as I said, you don't know what your talking about, you don't need to be training to be a social worker to do a social work degree (which I am not doing, by the way)

Duhhhhh that's because they too are on threads that you are on and therefore might be sympathetic and have the same issues and opinions as you. Seriously you think you have support because of that?

I haven't said anything about 'support' I am not trying to win a competition. Just stating that I am not alone in feeling dubious about the armed forces.

You get a lot more service people in Salisbury than drug addicts... And as you've already said you have 'no respect' for people who join the armed forces perhaps you should move somewhere where drug addicts outweigh serving and have served members of the public.

Nope, sorry but your argument-your own argument won't allow it. Drug Users don't shoot and blow people up like service people do. You cannot respect doctors who work within the services. You may well have to work w/ service people or ex service people in a facilitating manner. Which makes you a moral hypocrite.

You need to have unconditional positive regard and respect for people to work with them in a HCP/SS field. And you have already stated that you have no respect for doctors working as soldiers/army medics let alone service people. If you have no respect for them then you are not professionally competent to practice and should be up before your professional body for it.

No you don't have to agree with how somebody lives their life. You are right,. But you have to have respect for them and we have it in black and white that you do not. You have damned yourself and on this point alone, you are unfit.

Oh and BTW- the term drug addicts is not liked by users and it is best not to use that terminology. It is very old fashioned especially when you are offering it up as some belated evidence of your professional suitability to be let anywhere near vulnerable people.

Rubbish. You need a professional mindset to deal with people professionally. Not allowing personal issues to get in the way of making the correct professional judgment.
Being a social worker is about making sure that you are behaving as society expects you to, not how you feel you should.

Drug addicts can do nasty shit too, as can many different types of people, when working with them it is important to not let your opinions of their choices cloud professional judgment. That is the fundamental basis of a HCP. You are 'allowed' personal opinion but your professional opinion is separate to that.
