barley water is usually really good if you are ill or need a good detox, you get the Robinsons lemon/orange barley stuff that my mother used to give us when we fell ill with childhood ailments (not from birth dear god).

Why is it so hard for them to say "actually, if I stop and think about it, I really don't have the first clue about what it must be like to give birth so I am really not in a position to tell you what to do"???

I think the separation at birth just seems really dated. I imagine that back in the days when it was assumed that everybody would bottle feed (30? 40? years ago), babies were probably whisked off to the nursery for their 4 hourly feeds so that the mother could have a rest. Obviously L Ron Hubbard knows as much about colostrum and establishing breast feeding as I do about being an astronaut.
