ahhh.. is that how they got those handcarts across the Atlantic. Thanks for clearing that up MB

Caligula · 01/04/2006 13:23

Oh yes at one stage they toyed with the idea that Native Americans were one of the lost tribes. Think they dumped that one though, as they wanted to shoot them and it might not have been scripturally OK to do so.

Blandmum · 01/04/2006 13:59

at one point in their history it was doctrine that Black people couldn't get into the higher levels of heaven. This made the US government wonder if they should lose their rights as a religious organisation. One of their High Up Prophets then had a divine revilation that Black people were OK.

Good timing

DominiConnor · 01/04/2006 15:02

Many religions, including Judaism and Sikhism have that sort of view.
And of course they aren't exactly non-sexist organisations.

Who was it it who said that the difference between a cult and a religion was the amount of political power ?

ruty · 01/04/2006 17:38

i don't know if Judaism is racist - i don't see why it would be. There are problems with texts that runs back thousands of years obviously and you have to view them in historical and cultural context. with christianity, for example, and i think with much instititutionalized religion - relgions become corrupt [and racist/sexist/etc] rather than begin corrupt - i think Ron L Hubbard and similar cults may be different.

DominiConnor · 01/04/2006 20:01

I stopped short of saying Judaism is racist though clearly some of it's members are.
But I'm pretty sure it's doctrine doesn't have a lot of room for non-Jews at the right hand of God.

My point was that scientology seems no more racist than any other religion.
Mad people are to be found in all races.

Blandmum · 01/04/2006 20:07

My understanding of Judiaism is that the laws given by God to the Jewish people are just that, they make no comment on what God may or may not have said to other peoples. They do not seak to make converts.

the LDS, on the other hand do and yet have still taught that other races are inferiour.

I'd like to lay money that after a dose of childbirth reality TC sees the light, as it were, and he an Katey get on with living in the real world. When I gave birth to DS I was in agony and shouting bloody well helped me deal with that. Bloody actors - don't forget they're all fantasists! Do scientologists do drug free dentistry by chance as well..no thought not.
