Here is a question.

Muslims says that the prophet cannot be protrayed and that for anyone to do so is a basphamy. But how can you blaspheme something you don't belive in?

As I understand it orthodox Jews say that it is a blasphamy for someone to write out the word of god. They would write G*d. Does this mean that Jews have the right to demand that Muslims stop writing the word Allah (since Muslims worship the same god as Christians and Jews)

Nah, my forefathers were all those nobel savages the Spanish were trying to convert to Christianity over in Mexico. It sort of worked. They've still go their own version of Catholic voodoo, tho.

Blandmum · 07/02/2006 16:16

Whilst giving them smallpox and taking all their gold, of course. In God's name. What was the old mission statement for Spanish voyages to The New World? 'God, Gold and Glory'. Yes, that's it.

Caligula · 07/02/2006 16:17

It's quite tiring to have people jump to mad conclusions on the strength of one comment. I was responding to Uwila's and yours (Expat's) implication that it is an utterly absurd proposition that the USA is entirely blameless in the matter of middle-eastern terrorism.

That doesn't mean I think anyone else (including Britain) has also contributed to the situation. Sigh.

Righto, will now read the rest of the thread.

expatinscotland · 07/02/2006 16:17

My mother's mother was . . . FRENCH .

expatinscotland · 07/02/2006 16:18

Where did either of us say AMerica was entirely blameless? Nowhere. Just that they are not to blame for everything, as some seem to think.

I'll go back to my Chanel lippy, tho. Thank God for the EU, although Jools wouldn't agree - hopefully she's hiding her nose behind the Torygraph, tho.

Blandmum · 07/02/2006 16:18

Don't say that in Scotland, MB .

Blandmum · 07/02/2006 16:21

Or is Wales (where I grew up!)

My MIL is Scottish and lives in Edinburgh. I love the place. Love Scotlands and the scots. Lived there for many years, worked in Edinburgh and St Andrews

DH has other family in Glasgow and Ayr

I love Scotspeople, too, particularly Scotsmen . It's all that Viking fierceness - the wind blowing thru their blond hair and their stark blue eyes. Well, DH is sort of thin on top in the hair department. But it was blond once . He's got the blue eyes, tho.

Blandmum · 07/02/2006 16:25

dh is 'folicularly challenged'

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 07/02/2006 16:26

He's very sensitive about it. I try not to bring it up. It's kind of cute, tho.

Blandmum · 07/02/2006 16:32

DH is way past being sensitive about it. he started to lose the hair years ago, and has none at all on top now. It doesn't worry him.

When I look at pictures of him with hair, he just looks odd

expatinscotland · 07/02/2006 16:35

Dh just looks . . . well, Scots. That rugby top is sort of a giveaway, too.

uwila · 07/02/2006 16:39

Yeah, well I can beat you all. I'm an American of English and Scottish descent and I vote Republican. And worse... I'm proud of all of those things.

Bet atleast one of you is going to attack me now.

Blandmum · 07/02/2006 16:43

any way its what you want so I will not, just to spite you

uwila · 07/02/2006 16:51

Helmuts are for nancies.

Piffle · 07/02/2006 17:36

I am not blaming Americans for it, I lay apportionate blame on the US foreign policy
Also plenty of blame can be apportioned elsewhere.
Actually if you did see the programme about Hurricane Katrina last week plenty of blame was laid at the feet of the US govt, now and at the time the levyies were built... Plus the ecological consequences of the settlement on New Orleans.
And while blaming US foreign policy and the plum idiocy of GWB reign, I have nothing against americans, aside from how the hell he got voted in
I mean is he loved that much by Americans?
If someone tells me that Tony Blair and the UK foreign is responsible for us being targetted on July 7. I don't get all antsy about it!

expatinscotland · 07/02/2006 17:40

Tarantula needs to change her nickname to Boddacia.

uwila · 07/02/2006 18:04

Just think that maybe instead of blaming all the worlds problems on the US someone somewhere should stand up and thank our soliers for giving us the freedoms to criticise them.

"Thank you". Is that so much to ask in exchange for their lives?

This isn't directed just at you, Piffle. It's a big gripe I have about the general disrespect for the men who do the sacrificing.

uwila · 07/02/2006 18:07

By the way, the engineer in me will concur that New Orleans is a bloody stupid place to build a city... not to mention rebuild.

expatinscotland · 07/02/2006 18:08

That's the French for you, uwila - runs and ducks, shrieking, 'I had a French grandmother! She was a war bride!'

uwila · 07/02/2006 18:18

Come to think of it, didn't the French settle New Orleans?

expatinscotland · 07/02/2006 18:19

Bingo, uwila
