There's no fooling an April fledgling flyer

MiniMarmite · 30/03/2010 22:26

Welcome to the April edition of the fledgling flyers where shower screens are shiny and rain never stops play.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

This is what it's all about - Babysteps each day to try to get some order back into our home with LOADS of support from our regulars.

So join in! We start this thread on April 1st (no joke), but you are welcome to dive in at any point in the month.

Splish, splash, swish and swash along to reserve your place...

Morning,

PurpleWeds quite happy to FB with you, get it set up and the nwe can sort it out.

No list yet, DD is watching telly so I had better go and switch it off and find something constructive to do, see you later.

MiniM - silly question probably, do you like Marmite? I adore it, get hungry every time I read your name!

MiniMarmite · 28/04/2010 13:24

I love marmite MrsD! We used to have to have marmite and vegemite, this being a semi-antipodean household but I have even manage to convert DH to marmite only (not that he would ever admit it). DS and the cat both love it too!

Right, off to look for you all on FB (although I am obviously meant to be doing something more boring useful)!

Evening all,

quick pop in after swimming before making dinner. Will be back later to start up May thread, so get ready to mark your place .

mm I promise no marmite references, hate the stuff anyway .

LinzerTorte · 28/04/2010 20:03

Evening everyone,

Quick update on my list:

Finish off work that I'd planned to do today not done (will do tomorrow when I can work for 2 hours longer than today)
Tidy up downstairs done
Put washing away done
Swish & swipe done
Get handouts ready for English lesson done
Check cake for friend's visit this afternoon has defrosted done
Have parents "evening" talk with DD1's teacher done
Check whether we need to see arts & craft teacher done (no)
Piano lesson DD1 and DD2 done
Enjoy tea and Sacher Torte/muffins with friend done
Put DC to bed by 7 pm almost (7.15 pm)
Mission done
15 min declutter in living room
Finish menu translation

Definitely an improvement on how much of my list I normally manage to get through.

PA No one ever looks quite how I expect (although I don't have a fixed idea of what they should look like iyswim - having said that, everyone looks slightly younger than I'd imagined!). Don't be too impressed by my friends list; I doubt I know more than a quarter of them in RL - the majority are MNers. I'm intrigued by the dragon sculpure unveiling btw!

MiniM Hope you had a lovely evening out.
I have - I think - sent you a friend request on FB. If it wasn't you, it was someone else who has recently become friends with PA, ellie and MrsD.

swan Hope you survived your hectic day. Mine got even busier when the neighbours' DCs decided to join us for dinner, but I do feel like I've had quite a productive day for once.

ellie Ooh, a shiny new thread - how exciting! I have lots of good intentions for next month.

missbennett · 28/04/2010 21:01

Everyone is so busy I am exhausted reading it all! Think I've kind of caught up but not worked out the face book names yet.......

Am exhausted - spent early hours of this morning at A&E with DD1 who had really bad tummy pains. Nothing obviously wrong so she's home and after sleeping in went to school. Have made GP appt for next week to discuss. DD2 very cross and said she is attention-seeking. Oh the joys.......

No housework done but have been thinking about it........ I will try and catch up at the weekend and start again on the lovely new thread.

My laptop is still out of action and DH os trying to sort it but I think I will have to give in and buy a new power cable etc as I can't access my emails - and only on here (ie DH's family computer) as DH out.

Right must go and insist that DD2 does piano practice and then try and stop myself eating too many sweets. Liquorice allsort, anyone?

feetheart · 28/04/2010 21:09

Finally think I am on the mend. Still coughing but actually starting to feel human again. To whoever asked - its been a long drawn out flu-y/coughing lurgy that has knocked me for six - even had to take to my bed for a day which is unheard of!

Actually got some things done today:

  • Morning routine in full for first time in at least 2 weeks
  • 2 mins hotspot
  • swept kitchen floor
  • hoovered hall and most of stairs
  • made biscuits and pudding (biggest sign that life is returning to normal is that I want to cook again )
  • did bit of gardening

Will try and catch up with people properly over the next few days but will be steering clear of FB for time being, I waste far too much time on here as it is

elliepac · 28/04/2010 21:30

Evening all, I am pooping my pants a little bit about taking over the thread but I shall be brave. Here is the May thread so feel free to mark your place before my reign of chaos begins.

feetheart glad to hear you're finally starting to feel a bit better.

missb hope DD is ok

I hope those of you with busy days survived. Haven't done much here today, Crazy day at work, it's getting to that stressful time of the year where I begin to pull my hair out at my Year 11's who struggle to realise their GCSE is around the corner. Then swimming. Have managed to keep relative order and that's about it. Am hoping that leading the thread will encourage me to practice what I preach!

MrsDinky · 28/04/2010 21:33

Evening all,

Feetheart - glad you are starting to feel better at last, I spend too long on here too. Sometimes wish I could hide the MOST ACTIVE thing from the screen, it is my downfall...

MissB - hope DD1 is feeling better now

Linzer sounds like a busy day, of sachertorte

Ellie thank you for volunteering for the May thread

PA - took me a long time to find a profile pic, I monopolise our camera deliberateley so I am never in too many pics, and even then most of them are fit only for deletion. The one on my FB is nicely out of focus and I was having alottodrink a very nice evening hence relaxed appearance.

Re FB, I keep my FB fairly low key too, so you won't find any pics of my DCs or anything very interesting, mainly just mundane chat as per this thread, but as others have said, nice to put a name and a face to the MN nicknames.

Well, don't feel as though I had a very productive day. Cleaned a few windows with DD, did a bit of gardening, general pottering really, must try harder, must try harder.

Night all

PositiveAttitude · 28/04/2010 21:41

Feetheart Glad you are finally feeling a bit more human. Its been a long time.

MissB sorry to hear about your DD1. Hope she is feeling better tonight.

Unveiling of the dragon - Oh it was lovely!! My daughter goes to one education unit for teenagers with medical issues meaning that they cant go to a "proper" school and there is a partner unit for teenagers with behavioural issues. Anyway, they made a sculpture out of recycled material. It is brilliant. I might try and get a picture of it to scan in and put up on my profile. A real acheivement with difficult kids.

Lovely day here, a bit of baking done and a bit of a compromise with the hoovering. I managed to carpet sweep the back lounge and sweep the front lounge.
Just got in from an election candidate debate thingy. All quite calm and sedate, but good fun.

Far more quiet on here tonight. Everyone settled down now?

PositiveAttitude · 28/04/2010 21:43

Hi mrsd just x-posted?

Nettiespagetti · 28/04/2010 21:52

lol @PA searching facebook for nameless people.

Cant find a fishnet elliepac either!!

Nettiespagetti · 28/04/2010 22:17

i have only found one ellie. No positive attitudes and iave asked to be friends with Ding Dong!!?

So confused. I love the threads. So diffult to remeber whose who. I'm even at the computer and its not helpgin much!! Memory from one post to the next is awful!! Must find good memory vibes...maybe the under that cobweb i shoulda dealt with yesterday when i was supposed to thoroughly hoover the loving room!!?

I dog sat last night whole night away from noise makers DC. Woke up in tome to get home to take to nursery. Done no flying at all chaos reigns

Must find the be kind to yourself link.

Hope you are all ok and would love to find some of you on FB soon.

ROLF re swans, dragons, cats etc!!

purplewednesday · 28/04/2010 22:31

Another long day managing 7 yr old, 5 month old, 1 dog (madasafish), 2 cats, 5 hens, 2 tanks of tropical fish, Uncle Tom Cobbly an'all. DH still in Scotland, but at least he is busy with work I guess.

Didn't make a list today, just lurched from one thing to another, but did get out to the mummies and buggies class (aerobics with pushchair. full of screaming babies and the music turned up to drown them out...)

I haven't done the sink thing tonight - kitchen is mostly tidy and the kettle is filled up ready to go tomorrow which is the MOST important thing!

Will plan tomorrow properly after the am school run, with a mug of tea and toast.

Linzer - ooh a proper Sacher Torte
MM - have only just twigged that you must be somewhere other than the UK judging by the time of your posts. Anywhere nice and sunny?
PA - Youth Minister? Sounds intriguing..
DTM - well done for getting DS to bed without shouting! Its just sooo hard some evenings isn't it as they know exactly which buttons to press.

Off to bed to wind down with a book.
Make sure I do some work tomorrow!

optimisticmumma · 28/04/2010 22:39

I disappear for 2 days and what happens? You've all gone facebook crazy! Am feeling very left out ...will I really have to join facebook? Don't think I could cope with another online site although it could be useful - my friend facebook's her son from downstairs to tell him to go to bed !!('tis true, he's 17!)

Anyway today:

Counselled DD who had total school meltdown this morning (I know how she feels!!) . She's much better tonight and we now have a few ideas in place for her to start liking school again that she can try to implement.Just feeling the pressure atm...

Houseblessed (bleurgh at the name!)
Washing x 3
School planning for tomorrow and Friday.
Rehearsal for Messiah which is next week! (remember our singing chat???)
Paid bills
Generally moved the house slightly to the left!!

DH is coming back from Asia a day early so am looking forward to that. He'll probably be so knackered that we'll no doubt have a quick row first before I even say 'Hi'!! Anyway lovely long weekend ahead and , sorry for capitals but,
DS1 PLAYS NATIONAL U17s RUGBY FINAL ON SUNDAY so that wil be v. exciting.

I may not be back til Saturday so will mark my place but meanwhile and big 'Hello' to everyone on the thread!!

Night

MiniMarmite · 28/04/2010 22:44

Evening Ladies,
Just dropping by to say hello and post links.

Linzertorte that's definitely me, just accepted your friend request .

PurpleWednesday - I am in the UK, just tend to post in the evenings as the mornings are too frantic (don't know how you all manage morning posting, apart from the fact that you are superwomen)!

Full of lovely Thai food and must soon find my bed!

OP posts:
MiniMarmite · 28/04/2010 22:47

Hello - rubbish flying today as been really busy:DS to school, DD to doctor then nursery, then to shops as DS broke new school shorts after 1.5weeks of wear and had given old ones away & not bought extra pairs-grrrr, then DD swimming/playdates blah blah.

Shined my sink. Going to bed!

Optimisticmumma - I'm on facebook but don't have much time to go there now I've come back to MN ! Glad to see someone else here lives in Rugby mad household - good luck to your DS for Sunday in case I forget!!

Sorry haven't got time to read all thread since I was last here - looking forward to May and getting better at this whole flying lark! Night

droitwichmummy · 28/04/2010 23:01

Has anyone seen this? You MUST watch the video or you will be totally at a loss about how to fold a thong...

Enjoy

LinzerTorte · 29/04/2010 07:38

Morning all,

Had a lovely afternoon yesterday - but for all those at Sacher Torte, I must point out that a) I didn't make it myself (it was courtesy of MIL) b) I've had it too often to get excited about it any more, and c) it creates a ridiculous amount of crumbs (well, it does if you have five young children eating it!).

DWM I feel inspired to go and reorganise my drawers after watching that video (thanks for the link) - but then I would never get any work done this morning...

missb Hope your DD is feeling better soon.

feetheart Glad to hear you're finally starting to feel better.

Nettie You can generally search for people on FB with either their RL name (PA's ding dong was a clue about her surname) or the e-mail address they use on FB. (I did try to change my settings so you could enter my MN name to search for me, but Linzer Torte has already been taken by a... Linzer Torte!) Feel free to e-mail me at traungold @ hotmail dot com though, and I can tell you how to find me on FB (not difficult as I have quite an unusual name: English first name and Austrian surname) and point you in the direction of the others.

OM I spend far more time on MN than I do on Facebook - you can waste a lot of time on FB but I don't really bother with all the applications; I mainly use it to keep up with friends, post photos (when I get round to it) for friends and family back in the UK to see, etc.

purple A full kettle is always good - and a good start to the day definitely helps!

Right, I have procrastinated enough; I need a list:

Work (including catching up on yesterday's)
Washing (2nd load now on)
Cook dinner (I have been trying to find time for 3 days now - we've been living on things from the freezer)
Mission
Routines
DC in bed by 7 pm
Bed by 9.30 pm

Have a good day everyone!

PositiveAttitude · 29/04/2010 07:55

Good morning ladies.

Overslept this morning, so have run round at 90 miles an hour to catch up!

DWM - You have made my day so far with that video!! I was laughing so much DH asked to watch it. A good start to the morning. DH could be a bit OCD (living with me he has no chance, but he slides back occasionally) and even he was , although he did say that he was even more at the people put that sort of thing on the internet and that others watch it!

OM - Have a brilliant time on Sunday. Hope he wins. Also hope DD is better today.

PurpleWed - Youth minister is my work colleague. I work at a church.

Still deciding whether my cat needs a expensive trip to the vets. Been poorly for a few days, but as soon as i think I ought to do something he seems to buck up a little.

Today I am off, so relaxed day.
I need to:
Sort kitchen out - DW unload/load
Washing machine - unload/load
Take DS to dentist
Shopping
Decide on tea for tonight. - roast or sausage & mash
Bake cake for friends birthday
Bake cake for family, or they will devour friends cake before I can get it to her!
Go to housegroup tonight to take the cake - so no truanting to watch the darts for me tonight.

Right, I ma not putting anything else on the list, as I will fail miserably.

Many thanks to MM for being a reliable leader for the past few months. Well done you!!

Waves to everyone else on here, too many for my brain to unscramble this morning.

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 29/04/2010 08:31

Morning all.

I've been overdoing it again but not on the flying front - just being out and about too much. So I've declared this pyjama morning and DS and I are going to lounge around the house and do very little except eat chocolate biscuits this morning, and I'll get back to the flying this afternoon while he is at nursery. Not too much to do though as I've been out so much!

Stillcounting · 29/04/2010 09:19

Morning all. Another glorious day here.

Oh I do love a bit of thong folding to start the day

Cranky computer seems to be back to some semblance of normality this morning ...

Feel very out of touch with what everyone has been up to - but hope all OK and Flying high

Done
prepare laundry for fortnightly ironing lady and garland her feet with flowers
Morning routine inc. dw on, wm on (2nd load), s & s and a new step I'm calling MasterSwipe (spending 5-10 mins tidying up the master bedroom every day - used to be in horrible state - took me days to get it straight - and don't want it slipping back - it's zero tolerance from now on)

To do
5 organisational e-mails
on-line order
finally put away Easter decorations
turn up three pairs of trousers
start tackling office AGAIN
search for bargain old wardrobe for coats
French study
sort through all my handbags and wipe out insides
ditto newly washed and sorted cosmetic bags and cosmetics
afternoon/evening routine

Hope you enjoy your well-deserved floppy morning Chairmum - sounds lovely

Hope you catch up with yourself PA and that kitty perks up. Dragon sounds fab!

Biddy - rushing around with dc counts as Flying in my book. You have my sympathies re: school kit - dd is on her third set of gym plimsolls since Sept - she lost the right one from the first set and the left one from the second [grrrr]

Optimistic I don't FB either - people keep inviting me to join and I never know what I'm supposed to do ... daren't subscribe anyway else I'd be staring at a screen all day. Hope your dd is OK and that you have a lovely reunion with your dh. Good luck to your ds on Sun!

Sounds like you have your hands full PurpleWed - take it steady - glad I'm not the only one who lurches

Elliepac - you will be brill leader - thanks for volunteering - will back up anytime if you get too busy at school at any point....

Feetheart glad you are feeling better

MissBennett hope your dds are ok and you are catching up with your sleep

Waves to Linzertorte, NettieSpaghetti, MrsDinky,

and

Helllloooooo Mummy!!

See you later Fledglings!!
