There's no fooling an April fledgling flyer

Welcome to the April edition of the fledgling flyers where shower screens are shiny and rain never stops play.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

This is what it's all about - Babysteps each day to try to get some order back into our home with LOADS of support from our regulars.

So join in! We start this thread on April 1st (no joke), but you are welcome to dive in at any point in the month.

Splish, splash, swish and swash along to reserve your place...

I don't need really need new clothes to impress them, I just need to enjoy life a bit more methinks!
cleaning has commenced! should be over shortly if I speed up a bit.

Morning all,

swan Sorry to hear you're feeling down. I know what you mean about the house (doesn't FlyLady call it CHAOS?) but I'm sure you're far more bothered about it than any visitors would be. I'm friends with people because of who they are and not because of the state of their home! I think you tend to notice your own mess far more than visitors do - having said that, I know exactly what it's like as I always feel so much better in myself on those rare occasions when the house is clean and tidy. Loving the idea of a crazy tie day - now if we only had school uniform here...

MiniM Not only are we an hour ahead here, school starts at 8 (and Kindergarten is open from 7) - it means an early and usually very stressful start to the day, but I'm back home and child-free from about 7.50 am.

Short list today as I'm busy with work all morning:

Yet more washing (I've just stopped putting DS in a nappy at night, although it was actually DD2 who had a slight mishap yesterday)
Menu planning
Weekly food shop (brought forward from tomorrow as it's a bank holiday here so all the shops will be closed)
Buy first communion dress for DD1

And routines as and when I can fit them in.

swanriver · 30/04/2010 10:09

Linzer Burda (sewing mag) had a first communion dress pattern recently. I thought how unlike the typical communion wear here and in Ireland(very elaborate wedding dress type) - as Burda is German I wondered if the same is true of Austrian FC style - ie: very lovely, and simple, no bows and veils or tiaras.
I need to think about dd's dress YIKES - she cares desperately that she will look as good as her friends - yes I know that is not point of FC, but still..I really didn't make much effort for ds1's outfit thinking people made too much fuss over the sartorial aspect of the day, and just stuck him in a secondhand suit, and in retrospect I feel it was a bit slack of me Ds2 has a lovely jacket (m &s) which I know he will be delighted to wear, so I just need to get him a (non-crazy) tie.

LinzerTorte · 30/04/2010 10:28

swan (and apologies to everyone else for the hijack) When is your DC's first communion? Ours is on 13th May so I'll be able to report back about the styles then - I'm not too sure at the moment! DD1 is quite a tomboy so would definitely go for a non-frilly style. They also wear a kind of apron over the dress itself and a floral headdress. Our neighbours' DD had her first communion last weekend and wore a normal dress (i.e. not a white one) but all the girls in DD1's class will be in white so we don't want her to feel left out. At least we'll be able to reuse it for DD2.
Btw will you be joining us on FB soon? I'll probably put some photos on there after the event (still haven't worked out how to upload pictures to MN).

biddyofsuburbia · 30/04/2010 13:29

Hi all - just catching up with thread. Had really hectic week, not much of it involving flying but still trying to do the first babysteps and establish my good habits I did cook properly (as in new recipe & not just bunging something in the oven!) last night for DH and myself. He nearly fell over!

Today:
Taken DS to school for book week character day. He's gone as George from George's Marvellous Medicine - nice and easy!
DD to nursery sitting for ages in traffic jam that I mistakenly thought would be gone as they may have stayed up all night fixing road, fantasy land again.

Coffee morning with DS's school class mums

This afternoon I will be in my garden:
Weeding, planting & tidying & hoping to get finished before the weekend! Probably should be going shopping again at some point. Must get it delivered in future

I will be making more of an effort for May to really have a proper go at flying & join in with the missions and stuff! Looking forward to seeing you all on the next thread

Oh, and SWAN have fun clothes shopping - I got a couple of new tops this week and it does give you a boost to go out in something new! Hope you find something lovely

swanriver · 30/04/2010 14:21

Linzer FC not till June 6th.
house much cleaner, no clothes bought yet alas.
Found the wheels for dd's wheelies - a lucky strike indeed - we have had tears over them this week
I think I had better do my paperwork before I go back to Facebook, but looking forward to being more sociable next week

Hello everyone

Just flapping by - can't believe it is the end of April already

HUGE THANKS toMini-M for keeping us on the straight and narrow throughout this month.

Got through my list yesterday apart from the sewing which will have to be done over the weekend. No Bank Holiday here on Monday - shops shut tomorrow. Hopefully a fairly peaceful w/e ahead.

No Flying as such today - just usual routines - plus two hours of tidying and putting things away.

House in clean and reasonable state on ground floor. First floor improving oh so slowly. Three steps forward, two steps back and all that. Ashamed to say I will STILL be decluttering throughout May

Nearly up-to-date with laundry though (almost unheard of until recently).

Lovely to hear about all the dcs' costumes, yum recipes and PAs interior "snow" shower ...

Well done to Biddy for establishing yr routines

Chin up to Swan (kofte sounds delicious)

Well done re: highchair PurpleWed

Good luck with bathroom Mini

Good luck with marking Ellie MrsD (congrats on your mega-list yesterday)

Well done with laundry Nettie and hope work situation improving

Hope you've had a better day today LinzerT

Waves to DEM, Feetheart, Optimistic and anyone else I have missed.

Must dash and put little 'un to bed ....

Have a great weekend one and all

elliepac · 30/04/2010 20:41

RIght, am popping over to new thread to post. I have decided to post the night before as mm has done if ok because mornings are a bit frantic. It will be around 8/9pm if that's ok.

See you all in May

MiniMarmite · 30/04/2010 20:50

Oh gosh, just realised I haven't marked my place on the new thread!

Back later for round-up.

Bathroom appears to be sorted but tiling options are currently causing marital tension!

MiniMarmite · 30/04/2010 22:37

Evening Ladies,

Well done everyone for flying though to the end of another month and thanks for all your kind words. I'm handing the fairy wand to Ellie for May, thanks Ellie .

I hope you are having a good evening with DH PurpleWednesday.DEM I saw on the other thread that you are taking some time out. Hope you come back and join us soon, you know where we are if you need us (or just want to share some virtual wine, biscuits etc) xxx.

PA I hope the icing sugar incident has passed and things are now a little sweeter (sorry, DREADFUL joke)!

SR I've decided over the past few years that I have to not worry about the state of my house or myself where neighbours are concerned - they seem to turn up unannounced at all sorts of times so they have to accept that there might be a stack of washing in the hallway and I might be wearing my pyjamas!

Sounds like you have early starts Linzertorte. Good luck with all the washing.

Sounds like you've done really well this week Biddy, you'll be flying with style in May I'm sure .

Well done on ground floor tidyness and laundry being under control SC - I still remember all those swimming towels from back when I first joined!

Ellie hope the wine is going down well.

Glad you are looking forward to more flying Nettie . Me too - lots of decluttering to be done. DS (20 months) decided to empty two of my clothes drawers today and I realised how much of it I've not been wearing - time for a trip to the charity shop I think.

See you all in May x
