Are we all ok?

To help you recover from the journey the babystep today is a 'catch up' one

Today's mission requires a ladder

The Christmas mission is about decluttering

Off to put the kettle on. Back in a minute

Morning all, lovely day here, sun shining and very mild!

This morning I have:-

Made beds
swept floors in hall/dining/kitchen
Washed breakfast dishes because have run out of DW tablets
Washing on line
Swimming bag packed
DS1 to French reading lesson
S/S
Scrubbed shower

To do:-

Take DC's to swimming lesson
Mop floors
Make Christmas trees out of fir cones with DC's
Shepherds pie for dinner
Ironing tonight when watching TV

Well done your DH DWM on getting his job just in time for things to seem to be looking up for the new year.

POA send them off for school dinners, eat chocolate and have a lazy day, you deserve it.

Big wave to everyone else.

elliepac · 18/11/2009 09:44

MOrning one and all,

Hope it is better where everyone is than here. Blowing a gale and throwing it down with rain. Just a quick peek because am on a break at work so haven't time to reply to posts so will just say a massive hello to everyone .

Theatre was really good last night but to say it was a bit of a rush to get there is an understatement and didn't get home until 11pm so am shattered today. Turns out Tommy Steele was starring as Scrooge (don't really know much about him but my mum tell me he used to be very famous, I recognised his face ).

In today's list I have gone for the minimalist approach :-

Get to work on time sortof
Put DS swimming stuff in wash done
Take DS swimming
Cook dinner
Load DW
Washing.

Congrats WTD, thats the best kind of job 'interview' isn't it.

Check in tonight. Don't get blown away everyone

Annabel1 · 18/11/2009 10:36

load of washing on and processed

Good luck all

StillCounting · 18/11/2009 11:39

Hello everyone!

Checking in very late ....had/have to do extra hours paid work today ...

Congratulations on the job WTD - brilliant news!!! Don't be scared - you'll be fantastic - can't beat a native speaker as a teacher - how about taking in a CD player and playing them a song, lyrics on hand-outs for discussion, might break the ice for your first lesson ...My French teacher recently played us some Charles Trenet .... trying to think of UK equivalent.....

Also to your dh Droitwich!!! Hope your meeting is going OK today ...

MrsMarmite THANK YOU so very much for taking the trouble to post drier details and trouble-shooting tips yesterday - it was so kind of you - and apologies for only saying so now .... Thanks to your intervention, I looked on-line and managed to solve the problem and we have now found the instruction booklet thing too!! And the washing machine spin seems to be working except on one programme so we are semi-restored to normality on the laundry front here and it's going well ...

PushmePUllyou - thank you for the encouragement re office. Yes, you are quite right. Was forgetting the most basic of Flying principles. The thought of 4 hrs decluttering was off-putting ... so it's back to the daily 15 mins .....

Congratulations on your lists everyone ...particularly Annabel and MrsDinky who are new to it all ... you are both professional Flyers already!!!

Poor you PA - it's horrible when you feel your your home has been "taken over" ....

Optimistic - your chutney sounds wonderful - I was hovering over some kilner jars in a shop the other day and feeling all Christmassy ... just need some inspiration now

Aagh, got to go, speak to everyone later!!

Waves to anyone I have missed ...

QueenofDreams · 18/11/2009 11:53

Hello.
I've just signed up to flylady, and was wondering if you mind me jumping on board here?
House is a hideous tip, I'm demotivated and I really need to get off my butt and do something. So if anyone has any tips etc that would be great

droitwitchmum · 18/11/2009 12:56

Welcome aboard QueenofDreams!
Just a quick welcome post from me as I'm at work but didn't want you to wonder where we all were.
You sound just like the rest of us on here - either have or not long ago had a tip for a house so you will be fine.
The most important (and quick) tip I can give you is not to try to tackle it all at once. 15 minutes per job as a max makes things a lot more manageable. I use that now for everything including ironing and it does work.
As you have signed up for the site, take a look at today's babystep - link is on my first post of today - I think it is to read flylady's 11 commandments. That should give you an idea of what it is all about, then do babystep number 1 - shining your sink. Once you have a shiny sink you will be a true fledgling.
We usually have a round up in the evening - pop in if you can

Welcome QoD.

Just flying in to let you all know that the day that started bad got worse and worse!

Yes, I did sandwiches. - DCS didn't fancy the menu today!

Builders arrived and asked me to move my car off the drive so that a lorry could get in with lots of heavy stuff. Tried to move car and it would not start!
Blowing a gale, pouring with rain, cold, wet, fed up before 9am = not a good day!
Had to walk to work (not too far), but then had to sit next to a rediator to get remotely dry and warm before repeating the wet, windblown walk home aftr work. Got a meeting at the school at 6. (joy!!) I will join OM with a bucket of wine tonight!

Hope everybody else's day is going better than mine.

elliepac · 18/11/2009 14:51

I.......neeeeeeeed......wine.......

(Welcome QOD by the way )

Annabel1 · 18/11/2009 15:29

one word to say about likelihood of list being completed today - mastitis (sorry it tmi). Came on quickly, feel rotten and dh out tonight. So bed asap and just glad I've been flying cos nicer house to look at now!

havingagiraffe · 18/11/2009 16:21

WELL DONE WTD, or should I say Tres Bien (?) Now do you need to learn french?! - eek!

I have been MIA as not doing too well (blaming lack of sleep and last minute christening preperations) and every time I look at the thread there seems to be loads of posts and so I assume you are all flying genius'. When I finally poke my head around, Ellie is craving wine at 2pm!, PA is dealing with gales and cars and builders and annabel has taken to her bed (quite rightly I might add). I feel so much better.

Today has been a little more productive as I declined lunch out after swimming with DS and came home instead. Today's list

Make bed (not done yet, what would the fat fairy say )
S & S done
Washing on done
DW on done
DW emptied done
Nappies on done
Wiped landing skirting boards and attic stairs done done
Shopping done
Tidy and clean medicine cabinet
Dinner
DS weighed at clinic done
Ironing (yeah right!)

Quite an impressive list really, however had to be decent by 8am for boiler repairman who didn't come as they didn't book me in , rebooked for tomorrow, however just been and all fixed

Haven't caught up on all posts but will try and pop back later.

Big hello and a wing flap to you all.

annabel Get well soon and welcome to QOD

StillCounting · 18/11/2009 16:44

ouch - sorry you are feeling poorly Annabel - hope it clears up soon - don't know if the cabbage leaf remedy is a myth or not but might be worth a go?

Warm welcome to QueenofDreams - just jump in to the baby-steps (yuck, how we hate that phrase) and as Droitwichmum suggests, have a look around Flylady site and you'll get the hang of it. (Ignore barftastic, cutesy language, the underlying principles are sound.) Start with baby-steps, then when they are more or less automatic (I'm on my fourth or fifth repetition ) add in 15 mins decluttering a day, then when you have decluttered (you can't clean clutter), maintain baby-steps + 15 mins zone cleaning a day. You will find us all very obsessive about lists and drinking red wine supportive on here

Don't worry about feeling demotivated - the Flylady system really does help. None of us are doing it perfectly (well, apart from Droitwich our esteemed leader ) but even just one baby-step + 15 mins tidying or cleaning up a day is better than nowt right?!!

Elliepac POA and anyone else who has had a tough day ... "the sun is over the yard arm here" (one hour ahead) so I am pouring you all a glass from the "bucket" I neglected to bring to the table last night ....

Fairly productive day here:

paid work done
kitchen sink and surfaces gleaming
s & s done
washing on 4th load today
sorted ironing in to baskets done
sitting room tidy
parcel up birthday present and card done

to do:
supper and evening routine (spag bol tonight - made sauce yesterday during play date from hell)
tidy up master bedroom which is slipping again
15 mins decluttering and shredding in home office

TRY TO GET TO BED EARLY!!!!!

Hello to everyone I have missed ..we can do it....

Pluto · 18/11/2009 17:21

Still doing the routine of posting my done list so that I don't get sidetracked by MN in the morning...the only problem with this is that I'm coming to the mission very late in the day and not getting it done

Today I have...

done all morning routines apart from s/s which I'm finding hard to do before the school run and then this gets left when I'm home again as other things take over

2 loads in w/m and drying on airer

massive pile of ironing which didn't get done yesterday - took me an hour while DS2 slept

trip to butcher and dry cleaner

quick tidy in master bedroom - mainly involved hanging up my clothes

emptied all the various bathroom and bedroom waste bins

I'm sorry about the mastitis Annabelle. It's the most dreadful thing and I expect you feel awful - I'm sending you lots of virtual lasinoh and antibiotics

Welcome QOD enjoy shining your sink

Wine at 2pm ellipac ?! I can only imagine what was going on at school! Teenagers and windy weather is not a good combo so hope the rest of the day improved for you.

It's 2 months today that I go back to work from mat. leave so I'm going to try to see if I can start a bit of practise routine in the afternoons. e.g. making packed lunches, getting bags and clothes ready and going to bed by 10.30pm. Any other tips gratefully received.

Annabel1 · 18/11/2009 18:36

I amin bed - honest . thank the lrd,dh has maagd tobnhismeing and come home. So feet up and take the drugs! dh also brough tin of choccie bicuits home so help yourslves
jjust wanted to welcome qod and good luck. am ery

Annabel1 · 18/11/2009 18:39

oh no - just saw post and realised keyboard poorly. typing slowly and really off to bed now!

optimisticmumma · 18/11/2009 18:41

Hi all. I've only just managed to bag a computer from the Optimistic children ( hey, I like the sound of that!).

I've had a very successful day Christmas shopping so am feeling very smug! Seriously though I have to get about 50, yes 50, pressies as we have such a large extended family - it's fun though in a mad kind of way!

I'm so pleased to hear your jobs news WTD and DWM. Well done to both!

SC - well done too on the laundry! Wow!

PA and Ellie - hope your days have improved and that the wine cravings are easing! (Yeah, right!)Mine will have to be virtual as I have to pick up DS1 later - he's gone to theatre tonight!

Annabel - so sorry you're in pain! Is refridgerated savoy cabbage still the thing to do? I used it all the time for my three and it didn't smell really!

Welcome from me too QoD

I need some motivation too as I keep going off piste with my flying!!! Can't seem to stick to the fat fairy's zones/missions etc.

Oh well...off to do some ironing... see you all later!

droitwitchmum · 18/11/2009 19:16

Evening all!

I know its early but I'm uncorking the wine chez DW.

Feel I've been slacking all week but DH out this evening so I'll get DS to bed on time and do a spot of fluttering then. Already got tumble dryer on but not optimistic about anything in there being ironed tonight. I've got some to do already - about my 15 mins worth. I feel better tonight than I have done all week so back on track but have to say - house not looking bad though thanks to the fat fairy

Back later

OP posts:
QueenofDreams · 18/11/2009 19:41

Hi ladies
Well my DS is in bed so the sink is currently soaking in bleach, ready to shine
stillcounting you're so right about the barftastic cutesy language. Why does everything have to have a silly acronym? Anyway, I think I can ignore it if the system gets my house in shape for the first time since we moved in.
DP and I are blitz cleaners. We have a big blitz, wear ourselves out in the process and within a week you can't tell we've done anything. We know we need to get good habits in place, so my sister recommended flylady. We shall see how it goes.

MrsDinky · 18/11/2009 19:44

Hi everyone,

Bit slack today, but have been doing lots of nice things with DD, so justified, plus my sinuses are aching again.

Good job news for WTD and DWM
Sorry about mastitis Annabel PAO hope your car gets sorted out quickly
Hello QOD I've only started this flying business this month and it has helped a lot already with bringing the house under control. I am having a huge declutter having just been made redundant and having more spare time than I used to.
Waves at everyone else

Today

Usual dishes etc - done
Kids fed etc - done and in bed
Wiping fingerprints etc from random doorways and door handles in the spirit of the mission - done
Filing from yesterday - not done, spent yesterday eve on superhero costume (for Children in Need day)
Pirate costume - hat made, rest of it vaguely assembled, DD says she wants to be a fairy instead, but it's for a pirate party, hmm
Going to Sainsbury's - in a minute
Need to make a list tonight for tomorrow as it promises to be a very busy day

elliepac · 18/11/2009 20:17

Evening flutterers,

I.....have......wine....

I swear wind and rain contain some form of illegal drugs which make teenagers high as kites Pluto......tough day at the office with some of the more 'challenging' members of the school.

MrsDinky, flipping nora lady...and that's a slack day

QOD in descrigin your blitz cleaning you have inadvertently described my life....nothing for a week, hours of cleaning....nothing for a week ad infinitum. ALthough still mastering the babysteps 3 months in, it does work...honest

DWM am absolutely sure your version of a slack week is a good week for me, mere mortal that I am Brilliant news about DH though

OM well done on the Christmas shopping, am planning on getting to it this weekend...we shall see.

Annabel ouch, hope you're feeling a bit better.

SC thanks for the bucket GET TO BED

HAG glad I made you feel better

PA hope your day get better...drink wine...it solves everything

My minimalistic approach worked in that I got done the minimal targets I set myself . Am now going to snuggle on sofa and relax for the first time in about 48 hours.

Have a good evening

QueenofDreams · 18/11/2009 20:48

ok - little update from me.
My sink is now all shiny I do like a clean sink. But I've never scraped under the rim before and bloody hell! urgh, yuk.
Still have loads of washing up to do though, so I don't think DP is going to appreciate the shiny sink surrounded by dirty dishes.

tibni · 18/11/2009 21:22

Hi all,

Just a quick update.

I'm at work early tomorrow, 8am start, and then have ballet run straight from school.

Managed to get quite a lot done today - bedrooms, bathrooms and baking.

Today, for the first time, I really started to see the impact of flying. . I decided to do the bedrooms and because I have decluttered and now always make the beds and put clothes straight away I was able to do things like clean skirting boards rather than just wading through junk.

I did en-suite and bathroom and because I always s/s it takes half the time.

Flying has to fit around my lifestyle and I don't always do the mission or decluttering everyday as it isn't possible. Monday when ds (asd) was off he discovered his sisters talc!!! You can picture it! LOL I have a long way to go but I am getting there.

droitwitchmum · 18/11/2009 21:26

We have progress here although DS WILL NOT go to sleep! I have shouted, reasoned and appealled to his better nature, but he's still awake although now in his bed. He's always like this when I'm on my own with him so I should be used to it but it someimes makes me a little as he doesn't do this for anyone else.

Rant over - more wine anyone?

15 mins ironing
put washing away done
10 mins rescue in spare room
s&s done
wipe down in bathroom done
shine sink done
bed on time

OP posts:
Pluto · 18/11/2009 22:16

Ok, babystep no.2657 or whatever it is, I am going to bed I will not pass out on the sofa again. I HAVE to break the habit of late nights before I return to work.

If you see me on here later feel free to tell me to go away. Besides, DS1 is 10 tomorrow and I need to be ready to corral his excitement at least a tiny bit in the morning so he doesn't go off to school and totally wind up his teacher. Poor things - Ofsted are in.

droitwitchmum · 18/11/2009 22:35

Pluto hope you are in bed

Done some ironing, not doing anything in spare room - off to bed instead.

See you all tomorrow

OP posts:
droitwitchmum · 19/11/2009 06:47

Good morning fellow flutterers!

I get the feeling that some of us (including me) have been struggling a bit of the flying front so shall we get on track together starting today? Probably depends on the babystep/mission

Babystep is a reading one so that gives us chance to catch up a bit

Mission is pottering around the bathroom and 5 mins decluttering somewhere

Christmas mission is here - shopping

I really need to start Christmas shopping so if I declutter some of my spare room (DH is home this evening so DS should go to bed ok) I will have room to put everything.

My list:
dressed
breakfast
DS & DH up
make lunch
empty WM done
empty DW

after work
no need to do bathroom part of mission - got loads of everything
get DS to finish reading book
15 mins spare room
15 mins ironing
1 load washing
check bills/pay them
swish & swipe
shine sink
bed on time

Have a good day everyone
