Are we all ok?

To help you recover from the journey the babystep today is a 'catch up' one

Today's mission requires a ladder

The Christmas mission is about decluttering

Off to put the kettle on. Back in a minute

Afternoon,

Well done on the paperwork being done Mrs Dinky. Good feeling when you have acheived, isn't it?

Welcome to the newbies.

Here for a quick update on my list:
Unload/load DW done and now needs unloading again!
Sandwiches x6 (or 7, not sure yet)Done x6 in the end
Laundry (must get clean underwear!!- kidding, just want to get ahead for the weekend) - will do after I have come off here!
Swish and swipe done
Get to work on time - miracle needed!! - Miracle didn't happen, instead one of my delightful teenager's (dd2) announced that she needed her passport 2 minutes before she needed to leave for school, insisted that I was the last person to have it, which in teenager language means she can blame someone else because she hasn't got a clue! If I was the last person to have it, can someone explain why it was found in her handbag, in the bottom of her wardrobe, in her room! Oh yes I must have put it there just to increase my stress levels so that we could have a huge teenage tantrum first thing in the morning when I REALLY needed to get to work early. How silly of me not to remember!!!
Cram 10 hours of work into as short a time as possible - done in about 5, well as much as I desperately needed to!
Do home paperwork, very much overdue! DONE Hooray!!

Now going to sit with a book for a few minutes before being descended upon by hoardes of hormonal stroppy delightful teenagers.

QueenofDreams · 20/11/2009 16:10

Update from me.
I have:
Washing up done
Wiping kitchen counters done
Wiping down cooker done

I know I don't have a routine going, and these aren't part of the baby steps, but I thought if I can do one extra thing each day, just to get the house looking nicer, then it isn't a problem is it?
Right, going to get some laundry out and find somewhere to hang it for drying.

tibni · 20/11/2009 17:09

Hi all,

Had a bit of a lazy day today - had the day off work but ds, ASD, decided sleep was for the week last night so im shattered today (and I have promised to take dd out for a meal tonight as ds is having a sleepover with his godfather (lets hope he sleeps! )

I have taken puppy for a good walk to the castle.
collected leaves from the driveway
ironing
washing
hoovered and dusted
and other bits and pieces

laundary is one of the things that I have managed to get more under control with the fat fairy.

I used to be ok at the washing bit but the rest was a bit hit and miss! What works for me is to iron everyday - yes I know it sounds drastic but it has become part of my morning routine and often takes only 10-15 mins. I then put the stuff straight away rather than leaving it in piles around the house.

I have a drier but try not to overuse it. I use an airer on the landing and collect all the dry things off in the morning - its not ideal but it works for me.

droitwitchmum · 20/11/2009 17:29

Just back from work so a quick peep in while I'm drinking coffee and deciding where to start.

Welcome aboard shona!

Hello to everyone else. I'm off to tackle something - back later

Annabel1 · 20/11/2009 19:26

Evening all,

up, dressed etc done (well you'd hope by now...
breakfast done
hoover done
15 mins declutter in ds room done - feels as if he has proper place in the house now, ot just visiting!
preschool runs done
sing and sign done
process laundry, maybe iron 15 mins done - but not ironing (well it is friday!)
dinner done (chip shop chips and cold chicken)
laundry on done
s and s not done
shine sink not done - but there's bleach in the other sink you couldn't see pre flying!

Now according to Flylady, it's date night. Have dvd ready and if nothing says I love you like clean underwear - then dh can look in the drawer and I'm done
Minimarmite - well done for list and starting it
Having a Giraffe - thumbs up for the jeans - feels good and thrifty to fit into clothes again!
Don't know if i said hello and welcome to Squidmission and shona but hello and great lists
Pluto, also know what you mean about laundry. one solution is to buy everyone's clothes at least 10 sizes too big then the drier can just gradually shrink them to fit! Dh and I have running battle discussion on the effects of tumble drying on tee shirts!
OM hope you had fun with friends. They count as flying too don't they? I seem to remember reading that we have to do stuff for ourselves!!
Well done on the filing Mrs Dinky - and hope disco bearable. I used to hate them - always did loo patrol as beter alternative to dancing, except when pg with dd when i macarena'ed with the best of them!
And thanks DWM and hello to all others
Off to finish dd bedtime then choc, wine and dvd

shonaspurtle · 20/11/2009 19:45

Right, hotspots tackled (I can't believe how long I put them off and it was really quick when I got started).

Everything else is tidy. Just got to tackle the sides of the cooker and I won't be too humiliated tomorrow.

I hate that I can't ask people over whenever I like. It's partly that the flat is so wee and most of my friends have really lovely houses, but it's also because I'm a complete slattern. No more!

Will start following the baby steps tomorrow to hopefully keep on top of things.

StillCounting · 20/11/2009 20:43

Evening all. One of those "I'm permanently 15 mins behind days" spent dashing from pillar to post... frantic in office ... did 4 hrs overtime....first moment I've had to post and wow .....you've all done masses ...!!!

A warm welcome to ShonaSpurtle and Squidmission

Messaholics Anonymous - I like it Annabel !!

Ooo-aahh - hark at you Optimistic - Tesco before 10am ....FlyTASTIC!!!!

Hope you are not too tired to enjoy the evening tonight tibni - not surprised you are exhausted after your week ...

QueenofDreams - absolutely - you adapt the Flylady system to suit yourself ... that is why it is prescriptive and vague at the same time (if that makes sense!!)

That sounds like quite a day PA - grabs bottle opener ...

MrsDinky congratulations on your paperwork bonanza - oh am delighted for you and dead [jealous] at the same time!!! How many hours did it take in total do you think? And did you clear it in 15 min blocks do you mind me asking? 20 yrs worth is quite something - you should be really proud of yourself

Pluto - I think you are my doppelganger ...laundry and going to bed on time are my two greatest challenges ...(not to mention paperwork)

I wonder if we could combine the two ... I have been known to fall asleep on the ironing pile!!

Laundry IS going much better now thanks to Flying ie keeping up the momentum...but .... I agree that the Fat Fairy does skirt over it a bit disingenuously ...particularly, as has been said, if you don't use a dryer and can't process one load within one day ....

Congratulations on the jeansHaG - and hope you and your family all have a lovely day tomorrow.

WtD - you are not allowed to hang your head in shame ... you have had other priorities this week ....you've got a job!!!! Yay!!!! Hope you have a good w/e and fingers and toes crossed for Monday ...

Hello to MiniMarmite Elliepac Droitwich Einstein DreamTeam and anyone I have missed

Mainly paid work today but did, against all odds :
do morning routine
manage to tidy and dust master bedroom in 20 mins flat (a record!)
s & s
so all major rooms in house tidy and clean

It's 21.43here and have mahoosive urge to flop but before I do, I MUST:
tidy up after supper
French study
15 mins ironing

NOTHING achieved in the office all week - am a bit disgusted with myself about this frankly ) I had the opportunity, I just didn't do it

Sorry to blather on but going to try and do 6 lots of 15 mins over weekend. Hoping that scheduling the time and setting the alarm on my mobile phone will spur me in to action:

Wine here everyone ..have a good w/e ..santé!

droitwitchmum · 20/11/2009 21:13

Good evening one and all!

Thanks for opening the wine SC. 4 hours overtine and STILL got all major rooms tidy and clean - impressive!

Shona - so right about those hotspots. Its amazing how much you can get done in a couple of minutes

Annabel - chocs, wine and DVD - sounds like a good idea

tibni enjoy your meal with DD

Queen - do what is right for you. I have been known to leave all of the missions until the weekend before now. That reminds me - need to clean bathroom light fitting over the weekend...

PAO well done on your list; I have nothing but admiration for you with your huge family to deal with

Pluto and HAG there must be something in the air (or are we just feeling better about ourselves?) Pluto has a fab new haircut, HAG can get into smaller jeans and I'm having my nails done tomorrow for the first time since having DS - apart from for my wedding

MrsD star of the day!

MM and Squid how are the lists going?

MM, wtd and anyone else suffering from cba syndrome - there is never any 'catching up' with flylady. If you have a rough patch (and we've all been there) just write the day/week/whatever off and start afresh.

DTG - you're a bit quiet, hope you have a shiny sink

OM thanks for doing coffee this morning. Were you queuing up outside Tesco before it opened today?

Hope I haven't missed anyone - big waves to the world in general just in case.

List accomplished I think
dressed done
breakfast done
DH up done
make lunch no decided to treat myself with meal deal from Boots
empty WM done and a load on for tonight
empty DW done
hotspot - dining table done

20 mins craft areas(I have 2)- mission & declutter done took longer than expected so its not finished but a good start
wipe down skirting boards in bathroom no realised I hadn't got any
hotspot x 2- DS' table & cupboard in living room done
swish & swipe done
shine sink done

Off for bath and early night. Great day everyone - see you all tomorrow!

DidEinsteinsMum · 20/11/2009 21:21

Major congrats to MrsDinky on getting her paperwork done. I too had school disco to go to tonight ds' first ever but his school insist on you supervising at all times. oh the joy Head is a lovely lady and has agreed to have me in the school for my compulsory primary bit of my course. Very lovely lady indeed

Havent done any flying as still have the cba hat on and messaholics annomous might be a good name for Decembers thread... what about Fledging flyers - December's messaholics annonomous meeting place? as a title?

I suspect the disco music has frazzeled my brain and still trying to chuck ds into bed i am tired and tis not helped by the expensive paperweight. Must see if i can track the paperwork for that down tomo.

Have a lovely weekend all.
Waves to one and all enthusiastically.
Night.

QueenofDreams · 20/11/2009 21:30

Date night is it? hmm. DP not going to be home till 11. I'm Hungry. Off oh well.
Night all.
And don't worry, I will shine my sink before going to bed.

pushmepullyou · 20/11/2009 21:45

Evening all

I've got a nice cab sauv if anyone fancies a glass. Some spare for DHs too, it being date night and all! Mine is on the phone to his brother - again! Brother is very needy, possibly ASD and given to repeating himself for hours and hours until he feels heard. Very trying!

Sorry, I am halfway through my second glass of wine and finding it hard to retain info, but congrats on the jeans HAG, thanks for the doughnuts OM, feel your pain on the sleep tibni (it is a rare commodity in this house as well!). Oh and welcome Shona . Like the thread title DEM!

Haven't been too bad today given that I have had 9 hours paid work to do. Started very well with hoovering the stairs before work and would have managed detail cleaning of the bathroom were it not for poopocalypse, which erupted (and I use the term advisedly) in our living room at about 7:30 this morning .

So have also disinfected living room floor.

Morning and evening routines also done along with dishwasher and laundry. As well (drumroll please) as cleaning the oven, which was no mean feat, but looks fabulous as it has glass doors so very visible.

Quite smug as I hoovered the bathroom skirting boards this morning before reading the mission . Christmas budget is a zone of much denial though

Hello to everyone else I've missed!

Pluto · 20/11/2009 22:28

I'm going to bed - babystep no.17 met !

optimisticmumma · 20/11/2009 22:44

LOL at all the Tesco comments!
For all the recent recruits - it was only last month that i needed a mumsnet kick up the backside to get me into that particular shop!

Today I went straight from my 7.50 station drop-off (the upside of having teenagers is that the school run is an hour earlier!!), resisting the urge to go home!

Big wave to everyone on the thread - you are now too many to mention individually at this time of night. Am off to bed...

Have a good weekend all...

dreamteamgirl · 21/11/2009 00:16

Hi all

Sink is clean thank you, v=but not terribly shiny. Must work on that!!
Night all xx

DidEinsteinsMum · 21/11/2009 00:34

still havent cracked the early nights. I tried lights out fairly early but after an hour of trying to sleep i have given up and am going to do a few bits and bobs before giving it another try. Any cure for sleep deprevation that skips the overtired stage?

Morning to the early risers.

MiniMarmite · 21/11/2009 08:58

Morning All

DH is taking DS out for the morning so I have a little under 3 hours to catch up. Most of my list done yesterday but somehow there is a lot to be done...

droitwitchmum · 21/11/2009 09:14

Like the title for the December thread - does that mean we all want to carry on?

Babystep is a coffee (and cake) reading one so enjoy!

Morning all

Coffee/tea/full English over here for anyone who needs a kick start.

DS2 gone to rugby match
DD at sleepover - must not forget to pick her and 3 friends up
DS1 still in bed!

Today - it's a quick wizz round fire fighting and doing the ironing as it comes up.

Have a good day all....

Squidmission · 21/11/2009 11:15

Good morning.
I've not had a good nights sleep so am a bit tired today.
Dh has gone out and the boys and I are still in our pj's. Ooops

Here's my to do list today;

Get myself and kids washed and dressed.
Laundry (need to catch up)
Take ds1 swimming
Clean kitchen
Tidy living room
15mins in bedrooms (from yesterday which I didn't manage to do)
Long walk by myself

I like the ironing everyday tip. That would help me, I'm sure.

StillCounting · 21/11/2009 12:20

Good morning everyone

Thank you Droitwich for baby-step (thank heavens it's an easy one) and mahoosive "yes" vote from here with regard to thread continuing in to December (love title too!)... I really really value the support and motivation I've gained from everyone here...and although I'm till struggling with some aspects of the system, I b don't feel as overwhelmed and hopeless as I did before I started Flying. At least now I have a plan!! So thank you to you and everyone else!!

Laundry room looking remarkably organised at the moment

Thank you for cab sauv PushmePullyou - it was needed last night. I may ask for another glass this evening, after entertaining yet more rampaging 6 year olds ...

Einstein - I know it sounds a little wierd, but when I am in that over-tired "wired" state, I listen to Radio Four or the World Service in bed. Put it on very low and the low voices somehow distract your mind away from the fact that you are trying to sleep and yet are quite soothing at the same time. You can use head phones if your other half objects.

Also, (obvious I know) cut out any caffeine containing drinks after 5pm ish (I'm very bad at this because I have got in to the continental habit of having small cups of strong coffee after dinner).

Also, I tend to as much of my evening Flying routine between the afternoon school run and dinner as I can (including - if I'm not going out later - taking off make-up and putting clothes out for the morning etc). I find that if I start dashing around immediately before bed doing those things and thinking about the morning, then it wakes me up again and I lie in bed thinking of all the other things I haven't done or should be doing!!

Also, a regular bedtime is said to help. I think I am going to do an experiment and try going to bed at 10.30pm every night next week - just for one week - and see how it goes. Slightly problematic because dh goes to bed at 11.30pm every night without fail. You can set your watch by him. Don't know if anyone has any solutions for that save for separate rooms ....????

Anyone else (with early night "ishoos") fancy trying it for one week starting Sunday night?

Dreamteam OK it is embarrassing to have to admit this level of maniacal obsession on a public forum but I have actually shined my stainless steel kitchen sink with Duraglit silver polish. Has to be dry obviously. It works beautifully!

Hello to Optimistic Mini-Marmite Squid PA QueenofDreams and Pluto (well done on your early night last night)

And to everyone else!!

Yes, I know, I should be decluttering my home office, not typing .....

StillCounting · 21/11/2009 12:28

Note to self

Blather on and type LESS
Declutter MORE

elliepac · 21/11/2009 12:29

Hello everyone...went AWOL yesterday as my cba was too embarrassing to recount . Haven't got time to catch up with everyone but a big welcome to shona. The reason I have no time for catch-up is that I have an inordinate amount of flying to do in a very short space of time (house empty, baby napping - can't get anything done when DH and DS lolling around).

Will be back later to catch up with everyone's news. List looks like this:-

DW on
Washing x lots
General tidy downstairs
Sweep/Mop floors
Ring Bank
S/S bathroom
Tidy DS/our bedroom

Seems a little list but a lot of quantity.

See you later.

MiniMarmite · 21/11/2009 13:07

Aww, SC I love reading your posts!

Hi Everyone

half time update (as I have a little time to finish what I started while DS is asleep and DH is out shopping).

The story so far:

  • thorough bathroom clean, bleach bath mat and potty
  • vacuum upstairs and downstairs
  • sweep wooden floors
  • dust upstairs
  • tidy all surfaces upstairs
  • fold all clean clothes away
  • maybe wash kitchen floor (did last night but seems to need doing again
  • clear lunch things (done), tidy and clean kitchen, brillo pad sink (my favourite housework task
  • tidy all surfaces downstairs
  • ironing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (you know I love it)
  • change bedsheets and all towels
  • order nephew's birthday present
  • maybe make dinner for tomorrow if time

Then I'm going to have a nice cup of tea!

positiveattitudeonly · 21/11/2009 15:40

Afternoon all,

Wasn't intending to post, but just have ask what is the name for the December thread? How have I missed it?

Washing is still all in the overflowing washbin.
We are having a huge CBA day today. DD2 is at work, DD3 is having a bad time at the moment (long term illness), DS has had a sleepover last night and not a lot of sleeping happened, DD4 is always happy to do not lot. So we are all watching films, eating biscuits and generally being incredibly lazy. (DH weekend at work!) I am enjoying the fact that the builders don't work at the weekend and the house is quiet. I really should move and do something, anything though.

Off out tonight (who can spy the blue moon looming???). I have to decide what to wear. Oh no, decisions, decisions.

Hi to SC DEM DWM Ellie shona pluto MrsDoolittle Tibni Dinky QoD DTG OM squid MM and HA Wow so many now! I know I will have forgotten someone, so a spare big wave and sorry to you!
