Are we all ok?

To help you recover from the journey the babystep today is a 'catch up' one

Today's mission requires a ladder

The Christmas mission is about decluttering

Off to put the kettle on. Back in a minute

Hi all
Been a manic few days, but all well here and tree is up! Hurrah
Will pop over to December and mark my spot now

droitwitchmum · 30/11/2009 06:46

Well done DTG - first to admit putting tree up!

Here come the links - no Christmas mission - does that mean the ff thinks we are all ready?

I am posting 2 babysteps so that we can start December on number 1. Neither are onerous. This one is about calendar checking, and this one is a 'well'type' of babystep.

Today's mission is putting out lots of hotspots in the lounge. For the rest of the week we will be in the hall/entrance/dining room.

Short list from me today.
MUST finish advent calendar
s&s
shine sink
ironing if time
1 load in washing machine

See you later

Morning
Quick, then will catch up later:
up dressed etc
hoover
laundry on
process yesterdays
dinner - leftover beef from yesterday
ds up and dressed
dd up and dressed
breakfast
packed lunch
softplay (wish me luck, haven't been for ages)
menu plan for this week and next
internet shop
catch up on flyers
christmas decs down from loft (and christmas mugs - love them and bought them in sale last jan so have had to wait whole year!!)
amazon order
s and s
shine sink
bed by 10.30

Am very excited because the pre school tea towel i sorted out and did all the pictures with the children (as opposed to for the children )etc arrived on time for christmas fair and looks great. I feel as if it's been ages since I've had projects like that to handle, which I don't mind, but reminds me that I can do stuff like that, even if it's not saving the world.
Also, finally admitted was not going to finish previous knitting project so gave it to mother in law so can start new thing!
You all sound really busy, reading lists inspires me to next stage of flying. Proper catch up this evening if I can beat dh to the computer - his work comes first.
Really want to crack menu planning - get it instinctive.
See you later, there's a fresh pot of tea and some buttered crumpets (well toasted, you'll need to do your own butter!) in the kitchen

MrsDinky · 30/11/2009 09:41

Morning, tea here too if anyone wants it.

Well done with the teatowels Annabel. I have agreed (need my head testing) to go to school and supervise 27 five year olds baking cookies for their Xmas fair on Friday. Although I'm a bit about it, it will hopefully be great fun

Isn't this weather foul? DS made a raincatcher (have you seen it on the CBeebies in between programme bits) last week, he hasn't had to wait long for it to be full.

House has slipped a bit over the weekend, but did manage most of Xmas shopping online, so that's one less thing to do. Here we go

Kitchen 15 mins DW, sweep floor etc
Washing - one load
Menu planning
Sainsburys shop
Lounge (one giant hotspot)- at least 2 x 15 mins I think
Make some phone calls
S+S - done
Finich picking up toys from rest of house - half done

positiveattitudeonly · 30/11/2009 10:12

Morning all.

Just a quick scroll down to see what you ahd all been up to.

DEM - You have nearly finished your Christmas shopping????? I can start thinking about Christmas tomorrow. I never think at all before December 1st. I do just a few shopping trips and that is it! Bah Humbug!!!

MrsDoo-a-lot - Happy birthday to DD. I hope she enjoyed all the parties. I think pom bears and brownies are far more exctiting that crocheted lentils! I totally agree about this thread changing lives. Dh has suddenly announced that he has asked a couple over for dinner tonight and forgot to tell me - at least I have not been away like SC a few weeeks ago! I have been right on track with my weekend post-builder blitz, but will need to rearrange list so that all visitor areas are cleaned by tonight. Dh said the house didn't look as if I need a lot of notice, so he hadn't thought to tell me. I think I will take that as a compliment!

Annabel - It is so good when you realise your brain is not totally addled after having children isn't it? After my brood I changed careers totally, which was really good for my brain and proved to myself that I was pretty darn good at learning still. (even though I say so myself!)

manic waves to MM SC WTD Pluto Tibni MrsD and where have you gone Nigelslaterfan, Did we frighten you off??

Oh, by the way, while Dh was announcing that we have guests tonight he also let slip he has invited some over for Wednesday, too. One is a diabetic. Anyone with experience of cooking for diabetics? Any ideas for a nice dessert?

Have a good day everyone and don't get too wet! >

MrsDinky · 30/11/2009 10:18

Hi PAO
My DH is diabetic. It depends whether they are insulin dependent, or controlling it by diet, if they are insulin dependent they can probably eat pretty normally, just adjusting their insulin to what they eat. If controlling it by diet it is a bit harder.

Something like pavlova is quite good, cos the cream and fruit are OK, meringue obviously has sugar in it but it's so light that a little goes a long way. Maybe offer some low GI crackers (eg oatcakes) and cheese as an alternative? If you use sweeteners instead of sugar in anything you must mention it so they know what they are getting.

Pluto · 30/11/2009 10:29

Good Morning! I am hangover headache free and raring to go

...except it is pouring down here and DS2 is fast asleep on my lap...so I'm a bit stuck.

Anyway here's my list...

meal plan done
d/w done
w/m on done
shopping list done
internet shopping for Xmas bits done

to do (this week - no point in overdoing it and running out of steam is there!)

ironing
mop hall floor
go to tip
food shop
M&S to return cable knit tunic dress thing - I forgot I'm on the cusp of 40 when I bought it on Saturday and it looked bleugh when I tried it on at home.
Sort out Xmas tree lights and timer switches
Finish off Xmas cards

Looks like you've had lots of sociable if soggy weekends everyone. See you on the December thread soon.

positiveattitudeonly · 30/11/2009 10:30

Thanks MrsDinky, I think I should contact his wife and ask her what I need to do. I sort of know her, so that sounds like the best plan. Dh's response was , oh just do whatever, he'll either eat it, or he won't. But I think that is a very "man" attitude and I would like to be considerate to him, without him feeling awkward that he has caused a lot of trouble. Thanks for the tip about sweetners. I will take that on board. Not sure what type of diabetes he has, but he is a GP himself, so he should know what he is doing! (although as an ex-nurse I think nurses and Dr are the worst patients)

MrsDinky · 30/11/2009 11:01

PAO I do find with my DH that he does not like any sort of fuss or mention of it, so, yes, talk to the wife! Something that can really catch DH out is if a meal is significantly later than he was expecting. it might be useful if you could mention in passing what time you will be eating and stick to it. They will be well used to coping with everything though so don't worry. May be useful to get in some diet soft drinks.

havingagiraffe · 30/11/2009 12:18

Well I'm here but am really a bit of an imposter as very little flying going on here atm. Am in same boat as PAO has been. Lounge being re-done.

DP and DD (Darling Dad) sanded and varnished the floor at weekend and today the man is here to install new fireplace. So, basically ALL lounge furniture is in the dining room and computer is linked to TV, which is on dr table!

The internet is a marvellous thing though. Don't miss having a TV as have internet on big screen and can watch/listen to iplayer (also can MN in 32inch glory ) However, rather cramped, am going to escape to my Dad's soon and leave builder to it.

Am overly excited about paint and wallpaper choice though.

You all seem to be posting lovely lists and am impressed with annabel for the tea towel. I have still to finish the size sample for DS's winter hat I'm supposed to be knitting, it'll be too hot by the time it's finished. (and crumpets -thanks perfect on a cold day like today), DEM for xmas shopping. I haven't started, and DTG for tree. gulp - xmas!

That's about as much as I've read so big hello to everyone else and I WILL see you later.

Pluto Enjoy the cuddle with DS and forget your list. I love it when mine gives me an excuse to put my feet up.

walkthedinosaur · 30/11/2009 17:52

Hello everyone, it seems like you've been busy. I've been busy doing paid work today and to be honest I've found it too cold to move, heating doesn't go on until DC's come in from school so I've been typing with a blanket round my legs and pashmina round my shoulders. Starting to warm up now though.

Am going to have a bit of a catch up tonight because I don't want to start December off in a mess.

So tonight I will:-
Clean kitchen and mop floor
Vacuum dining room and mop floor
Ditto for hall and living room
Polish in dining room and living
Take washing out of machine and put on airer
New load of washing in

See you all in the December thread tomorrow, where I will not be putting up my tree for another couple of weeks because it makes the house look messy - it's true I live like a tramp but that's my reason for not putting up the tree.

optimisticmumma · 30/11/2009 18:40

Just got in after a very silly after school mission which involved me eventually buying one Peppa Pig advent calender and two Homer Simpson ones for my teenagers - honestly! I really thought I was organised and they'd agreed to the usual choc coins in the hessian sock things they've had dangling over the fireplace each Christmas since they were born but Oh no! DD also requires a glittery non-choc one with a cutesy Santa flying over the roof tops on it!

I'm now going to trump you all and tell you that I have my class of Y3/4 sewing, yes sewing, secret felt stuffed baubles with sequins on and everything for their mummies for Christmas! How nice am I? Also we are spending all morning tomorrow Christmasifying our room so I shall probably be buried in glitter by the end of the morning!!
Wish me luck please!

Flying? What's that? Am going to have to go off piste until later in the week as DH needs some clean clothing to go away with and I must get on with some marking...

Sounds like everyone is really busy and organised!

Wine open in an hour.....

MrsDinky · 30/11/2009 19:47

Early post from me tonight as DH needs to work on the computer for the rest of the evening. I have been enjoying the Brookside thread today, (shows her age).

OM - have fun with your glitter!
WTD - I'm with you on leaving the tree for another couple of weeks
DWM - thank you for guiding us all so well this month
HAG - It always takes me forever to choose new paint and paper(hence why this room is still stuck in retro 80s land
Annabel - wow, phenomenal list

Hello to MM SC Pluto Tibni DEM PMPY PAO anyone else I have forgotten

Kitchen 15 mins DW, sweep floor etc - done
Washing - one load - done
Menu planning - done
Sainsburys shop - done
Lounge (one giant hotspot)- at least 2 x 15 mins I think - done (ish, still looks a mess TBH, will do a bit more later)
Make some phone calls - done

elliepac · 30/11/2009 20:23

Evening everybody,

Sorry I have been a bit slack of late. Both in checking in/catching up on stuff and in the flying business. I AM RUBBISH.

OM I continue to be mightily impressed by you primary school teacher I honestly don't know how you do it. I do not have enough patience. Wine please...

WTD lol at living like a tramp, I'm not putting mine up yet because I am a miserable old cow who does not feel like christmas until i finish work . I much prefer your excuse

HAG good luck with the lounge...

tibni can i have your autograph please . I hope you have suitably revelled in your glory

I am feeling suitably unorganised after having a quick skim through this thread. Have bought one present and done nothing else for Christmas whatsoever. . Really must get going on it...tomorrow .

Big waves to everyone...see you on December thread.

DidEinsteinsMum · 30/11/2009 21:02

I am impressed with all the creative stuff going on in school. baking and glitter and sewing. So glad I dont have to do that

I have only finished christmas shopping because I hate shooping and cant bear to have to do it when the shops are busy. So get it down early. plus i am making half of mine this year so the bits are bought but are not made. Need to get cracking with that. plan is to do it the ds free weekend.

WTD dont believe you. I have a super hyper child here and the sooner he gets used to it being up the sooner peace will return. tonight we started to make paper chains to decorate his room and changed his bedtime routine. It has been a long evening.
soo glad it is bedtime. now hae to do the yr7 reproduction lesson plans and video check not a perk of secondary. No idea how that will go and not looking forward to it.

See you over on the december thread tomo

droitwitchmum · 30/11/2009 22:16

Hello everyone - my last post on the November thread

I have finished the advent calendar and done nothing else except listen to DS read.

DW has broken down so DH has said he will tackle washing up in the morning . Engineer coming out Wednesday morning so at least not long to wait for him to fix it (will it be Bob the Builder or Handy Manny)

Am trying to use all the emoticons before the Christmas ones appear but having trouble using the one!

Thank you all for your encouragement this month - see you on the December thread

Look out for new Christmas name
