Fledglings Flying into Jubilee June

Hello everyone, and welcome to the June Flylady thread.

We welcome newbies and returnees - if you are curious about the system feel free to ask questions or lurk! We do follow it, erm, loosely to say the least. So there is a lot of chat about random life stuff as well as housework, decluttering and organising.

A key element of flylady is not being a perfectionist. Most of us here are not naturals at housekeeping etc, so please don’t feel we are some intimidating group who demand perfectly shined sinks. We are human. We fall off the wagon. We commiserate and help each other climb back on, and we stock the virtual naughty corner with snacks and blankets for the days when adulting is just too hard.

So, the system:
🔹Some baby steps which are designed to help you build up a routine.
🔹Daily missions to help with sprucing up particular areas in the zones, for example the first zone of the month is the entry/porch and dining room if you have one.

🔹Try and do 15 minutes decluttering a day. It didn’t get cluttered in a week so it will take a lot longer to clear it!

🔹Daily focuses to help shape the week.
🔹Here on the thread many of us post to do lists, but also “ta da” lists of things we’ve achieved that day.
🔹We also recommend the Power of Three technique - if you’re overwhelmed with too much to do, just pick three things and don’t think about the rest.

Anyway, I will post some links each day (hopefully) but whether you follow the system or not - many of us just take the bits we like or build our own flylady style system to suit our own lives - do join in if you want a place to chat about keeping a house and family running!

That is enormously good of you ed. I'm a bit preoccupied and had not noticed it's the end of the month 🌷

BloomingHazel · 01/06/2022 01:50

Thank you ED for May thread, and thank you for volunteering for June. Love the name change btw 😊

I know this is awful to start off with, but we had a family crisis today (Tuesday) DHs grandma passed away so we rushed over there. She passed while we were headed that way 😭 this is the one that MIL has been taken care of since Dec, when she moved her in. Even though it was expected, it was still a shock. We are about to go out to dinner as a family, something we haven't done since before MIL moved her in. We got to say our goodbyes though, even DD, who I had to get on the phone, put her on speakerphone so she could say goodbye.

Sorry to bring down the thread right when it's started. I did have some ta das today as well, I may have time to add them later. We're at dinner now.

BloomingHazel · 01/06/2022 04:25

Ta Das:
🍹 4 LOLs done (sheets, dogs beds and blankets)
🍹 bought DS everything he needs to ride a bike
🍹 bathed dog
🍹 took a nap!
🍹 sprayed off the soda that was spoiled in the carport (x2 drinks)
🍹 Watered and dead headed flowers that needed it
🍹 rotated DW
🍹 handwash dishes washed
🍹 cheese shredded for DH breakfasts
🍹 counters wiped down in the kitchen
🍹 lunch made for tomorrow

Night all, it's been a long, tiring, eventful day and I'm ready to go to bed!
🍒👋 to everyone

BloomingHazel · 01/06/2022 04:26

Soda was spilled not spoiled in the carport 🤦‍♀️

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/06/2022 06:11

<slithers in sheepishly>
Sorry to hear that hazel even expected deaths are still difficult💐

ExtremelyDedicated · 01/06/2022 07:41

Sorry to hear that Hazel, I’m glad you got to say your goodbyes though.

Yay, Zoo, you’re back Smile

Morning Bean and any other lurking Fledglings.

I’m off to work this morning but it’s another half day. I got quite a lot of admin stuff done on my other half day yesterday, it was nice just coming home at lunchtime and hanging out with the DCs.

Today we are back in Zone 1, flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

The mission is to sweep down your front entrance and wipe your front door. I haven’t done the door for ages so that’s definitely one for my afternoon list.

<ignores absolute craps nest of a front garden and realises front doors extra grim as scoutcat jumps at handle to let self in,then drags filthy feet all over white PVC as drops down>
I have green mould in my plastic flour storage box.i hate this house.i hate mould. the end

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 01/06/2022 10:46

Hazel I'm sorry to hear your sad news; as Zoo said, even expected deaths are hard. So pleased you were all able to say goodbye. Allow yourself a period of adjustment while the family shakes down again into a new shape. 💐

Zoo you're back! Whahey! Ignore the front door, you can't see it from the inside, can you 🤣.

Thanks ED for last month and for continuing into this month. I'm far to disorganised to be able to take over at present, yesterday I was convinced it was still April and now it's apparently June! I am also sewing like the clappers to get summers frocks finished for events.

YesTaDa
💖 Spoke to client about huge family trees, finally sent them off to print 🥳
🧡 Tesco delivery arrived and was put away
💛 Cooked goulash using roast dinner left overs, now feeling like a Domestic Goddess and Very Capable
💚 Washed all the bathmats and kitchen towels and cloths (two washes, before you all jump on me!)
💙 Ordered DS3's birthday cake
💜 Agreed what Jubilee Afternoon Tea will be
💖 Put pockets into DD's new dress
🧡 Realised I don't have quite enough lining for it, found a local (ish - 6 miles away) shop that will sell me lining.

TaDa
💛 DW rotated, bed made, bathroom wiped, NO LAUNDRY (what is wrong here?)💚 Did some writing at squawk o'clock after WillowHound got up to chat to whoever was going WOOF on the field, with vigour 🤬. One day, I will go out there in my pyjamas at 6.15am (and that's not something anyone needs to see) and remonstrate. Which reminds me, Hazel, lovely pic of your hound 💕
💙 Dispatched DH to collect DD's prescription from 40 minutes away, because the post has cocked up again. WHY they can't remember to use recorded / special delivery I cannot fathom.
💜 Left a message with the oven cleaning man, cos I think the reason it's awful is that I forgot to book him in March.

Still to do:
🐧 more writing
🐧 Decide on end of term takeaway for tea, or if I'm making my own (takeaway is always disappointing in my view, and creates at least as much washing up as cooking myself)
🐧 Go to fabric shop for lining
🐧 Keep sewing!
🐧 Clean bits of hallway etc and decide whether to paint woodwork at the outside of the front door this weekend (while resting my knee, obvs).

🍒👋 to everyone, Dancing remember you can't do absolutely everything and hire a skip / put dustsheets over the mess if necessary! 🤣

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/06/2022 11:01

willow I like your thinking re the door🤣.

Tada.
Empty cupboard
Wipe out mouldy box
Clean cupboard.
Take out baskets shelf above, inspect, date check and wipe out shelf.put back
Check top shelf.sort through dry fruits etc and put back once wiped

As I was on a tidying roll....
Bottom cupboard organised and tidy
Tidy out fridge, removing couple science experiments on top shelf i can't see as I'm shorter than dd2 who is the culprit that had got push to the back
Have a rummage in baking box, note I need more light brown sugar
Jumpers hanging on airer
Towels in drier

Run out of steam now(I had covid early may and fatigue is still difficult)

I may plod on later,I may not😁

BloomingHazel · 01/06/2022 13:31

zoo so good to see you back!
Thank you all for your kind words, this affects the family, but mostly MIL as she was there 24-7 for the last 6 months. ILs have said they will have to reinvent themselves again. They do have a lot in the house that will leave now that grandma is gone, some they will have to try to sell as they purchased those items, but the bed and wheelchair were loaners so should be picked up soon. That will help them get back to a new normal, I think.

Must go, need to leave for work!

BeanAnTae · 01/06/2022 14:51

Oh Hazel I'm so sorry to hear of dh's grandma's passing. X

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/06/2022 15:23

Sorry for your loss hazel

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 02/06/2022 09:19

Hi! Signing back in having fallen off properly for the first time in years. Figured I’m due a name change as well. Please call me Perry 😁

Hopefully I’ll manage to stay on this one (thank you ED for the new thread!) - haven’t had any error messages today so that’s a good sign. Will post a ta da list shortly that will make my identity clear 🤣

I just wanted to say again as well, if anyone else wants to join in with an off-MN group chat, whether on FB messenger or WhatsApp, PM me!

Hazel so sorry for your loss 💐

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 02/06/2022 09:30

🌸shower
🌸got DS and Cagletini to the station on time for a little day trip - we met some of my colleagues and their kids for a quick museum trip and picnic, it was so nice!
🌸taught Cagletini to play Uno on the train, and later played a new board game with her
🌸edited tesco order
🌸put Cagletini to bed - hadn’t been able to for a few days as had another cold/bad throat

I’ve been relatively productive this half term so far. I decided to write a list of things I wanted to get done, and I’ve made pretty good progress! Lots of little bits like emailing people, a few nice things like finishing a book and drama series, and some housework related things. Don’t think I’ll manage the entire list but I’m doing a lot better than I usually would, especially considering I’ve been ill!

Going to start today’s ta da list now and have breakfast. Have a good day all.

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 02/06/2022 09:45

Morning! The dog allowed me a lie in today, until twenty-five to seven. Yippee.

Today has been all go already.
Ta da:
❤️ Breakfast & meds etc
🧡 Washed DS3's favourite t-shirt to wear to his friend's house later
💛 Put the WM on a hygiene wash at 75⁰
💚 Started sewing - I hate putting invisible pockets in. That is all.
💙 DS3 took the hound out before the Jubilee Jollity started on the field.
💜 DH is hoovering DS3's room, as a glass got broken.

I can hear them setting up the Jubilee stuff as we speak, and may need my ear defenders later. Half the town has gone all-out for the Jubilee with portraits in windows that say God Save Her Majesty. Someone on our dog walk route has made an effigy of the Queen and sat it on their doorstep, holding a toy corgi - I nearly had a heart attack!

ExtremelyDedicated · 02/06/2022 10:41

Morning all,

Nice to have you back with us Perry Smile.

I got woken at about 6.45 by a cat scratching the divan part of the bed, got up and fed them and tabletted DTortieCat who has got a recurrence of her skin complaint. MAde a cuppa and back to bed for a lie-in.

Ta-da!
🇬🇧Fed cats
🇬🇧Tabletted cat
🇬🇧Fetched milk in and put away
🇬🇧Put bunting up
🇬🇧De-pooped litter trays
🇬🇧Booked DD booster jab (finally 12 weeks since she tested positive)
🇬🇧Put washing on
🇬🇧Breakfast and another cuppa, now watching Trooping The Colour

Flylady of course doesn’t recognise the Jubilee or Bank Holiday so the links are available as usual but entirely up to you whether you have a day off or find it a good opportunity for a catch-up of chores.

flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

The mission today is 15 mins decluttering your dining room

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/06/2022 13:04

Morning.

Thing are hard work around here.
Yesterday I was very down and out. I feel like death but do not have that little extra line. Been fighting a sinus infections for months and it has finally taken me down with the burn out, physio doms and everything else.

Feel better than i did yesterday. But about to go soak sore muscles in hot with a book.

ta da
lie in
load of washing on
Potatoes prepped (delegated but i had to organise and instruct) for batch cooking activities - currently in pots waiting for me to be available to supervise their par boiling.
Stretched
Inhaler
decide which books are to be culled so there still isnt enough room on the bookshelf I do not have a too many book problem, i have a not enough bookshelf problem and that is the excuse i am sticking too!
decide what is for tea today and tomo
Take some sinus stuff which is clearing the sinuses a little too effectively but it is so nice to half less sinus induced ear ache
Look at how much there is left to do before exams are sat (potentially next week possibly not depending on that blasted little line thing) panic
prep for cleaning the fish out
Swear at those who do not know how to empty a bin
sigh at the fact boys are horrible creatures - bleach toilet to within inch of life

Welcome back perry sorry i now have the perry mason theme tune going around in my head <sigh> i got old

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/06/2022 13:07

Oh and i think this applies today

BeanAnTae · 02/06/2022 14:37

Hills look after thy self 🌼

I am returning to household stuff. Medical appts went well - tests were reassuring so that's very good.

DH went to paint disposal depot today. We had only been planning this for ten years 🤣. All paint gone from garage. Other council dump run done too.

Just large items for council pickup to be arranged later next week. We are getting there people. Garage tidy and sweep commences tomorrow.

BeanAnTae · 02/06/2022 14:38

Mount Washmore currently being scaled in the kitchen.

Upsadiddles · 02/06/2022 14:50

Found you! Thanks so much for both the old and new threads ED, much appreciated. I was planning on volunteering for June but I appear to have fallen down the chaos hole as well as off the thread. Maybe next month when I am a domestic goddess and all is under control.

So sorry for your loss Hazel Flowers

Sorry to hear the lurgy has found the Hills house, and hope you’re feeling better soon with no second line in sight.

Hi Perry and Zoo, good to have you back.

Excellent lists Willow

So we’ve made good use of half term so far. A couple of nice family days out, an ikea trip, rearranging of furniture, and a big declutter. DH has finally been ruthless in the garage and the difference is amazing! Pleased with the progress however everywhere is still upside down with things to find new homes for, stuff to clean and take to the charity shops etc, and DD1 being at home and her usual whirlwind self. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed earlier but after a visit to a relative, an hour in the garden weeding/watching DD in the paddling pool, and then catching up with the thread I’m more motivated.

TaDas include sorting todays laundry, picking up a few random bits and putting them away, emptying the DW, and a name change (most of the Up names I could come up with have been taken 😩)

I’m trying to get DD2 down for her nap then planning a 5 minute pick up, meal planning/shopping list with DH and today’s mission as the dining room is currently the worst affected by the upheaval.

Upsadiddles · 02/06/2022 14:52

Cross post Bean. Finally sorted paint disposal here too! Only 7 years for us. Hurrah for reassuring tests.

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/06/2022 15:15

ta da
2 and half hour soak in bath achieveing nearly 150 pages of book.

problem - yeah i dont wanna put the book down it is too good. 400 pages though and there are other things to be done. <sigh> being an adult sucks

Dancingtomusic · 02/06/2022 21:29

Hills- hope you get to finish your book hills and thanks for reminding me the June thread was here!

June - how can it be June already?

Hazel- i am so sorry for your loss.

Ed- thank you for leading last month and starting last month. I watched the trouping of the colour this morning too! I loved thd shires horses with the drums on their backs, he looked like he wanted to walk away from everyone.

Willow- you wont believe that I actually hid several bags of stuff under fraggle 2s midsleeper- just to make space in sitting room so it avoids to martial agruements.
(Wheres the thread shovel....)
Its lovely to hear what people and villages are doing for the Jubilee. The villages I drove through all had bunting and looked beautiful.
(Laughed at your bit about the doorstep corgi.)

Bean- glad all your test came out ok!

Zoo- hello! Lovely you are back- covid is hard on the body- dont do tooo much!

Perry- hello! Glad you are back! I was worried i wouldnt figure out who you were!

Up- hooray! I know who you are! Ikea trip sounds great- weldone for rearranging the furniture. Good you got out for reset and feel more motivated!
