Fledglings Flying into Jubilee June

Hello everyone, and welcome to the June Flylady thread.

We welcome newbies and returnees - if you are curious about the system feel free to ask questions or lurk! We do follow it, erm, loosely to say the least. So there is a lot of chat about random life stuff as well as housework, decluttering and organising.

A key element of flylady is not being a perfectionist. Most of us here are not naturals at housekeeping etc, so please don’t feel we are some intimidating group who demand perfectly shined sinks. We are human. We fall off the wagon. We commiserate and help each other climb back on, and we stock the virtual naughty corner with snacks and blankets for the days when adulting is just too hard.

So, the system:
🔹Some baby steps which are designed to help you build up a routine.
🔹Daily missions to help with sprucing up particular areas in the zones, for example the first zone of the month is the entry/porch and dining room if you have one.

🔹Try and do 15 minutes decluttering a day. It didn’t get cluttered in a week so it will take a lot longer to clear it!

🔹Daily focuses to help shape the week.
🔹Here on the thread many of us post to do lists, but also “ta da” lists of things we’ve achieved that day.
🔹We also recommend the Power of Three technique - if you’re overwhelmed with too much to do, just pick three things and don’t think about the rest.

Anyway, I will post some links each day (hopefully) but whether you follow the system or not - many of us just take the bits we like or build our own flylady style system to suit our own lives - do join in if you want a place to chat about keeping a house and family running!

YesTaDa
🛶reported self employed income/expenses to universal credit
🛶quick check of booking forms for work, sent confirmation emails and updated colleagues (we aren’t meant to be working this week but didn’t want to leave it as limited spaces)
🛶full clean out of bunny hutch, replaced hay and wiped floor etc
🛶new LOL and moved previous one (put on by DH before I was up) into dryer
🛶shower, hair, defrosted legs, moisturised
🛶had some nice time with DD1 watching Stranger Things - am putting this as an achievement since our relationship has been a little strained lately (because we disagree over upcoming exams and revision!)
🛶made dinner for Cagletini
🛶made two maths invoices
🛶printed some labels I made
🛶bathed Cagletini including hair wash (also dried my hair properly after hers!)
🛶put Cagletini to bed (including starting our second chapter book - Paddington!)

I am Not Happy to be awake, but at least there are no plans for today. Just pottering around at home and hopefully getting more of my half term list done. Must make the most of the quiet now, rather than ending up on my phone all morning, so I’m going to read my uni book for a while. Have a great day all!

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 03/06/2022 06:41

Right that’s a chapter finished. Still
a tad behind 😬

Everyone else is still asleep so I’m going to do a few other bits that I can achieve on my phone, as the next uni thing I need to do is listen to audio (really must find earphones!)

po3.1 (for any newbies or lurkers this is the Power Of Three technique mentioned in the OP!)
❗️Reply to an email
❗️Delete some emails
❗️Write a list of things we need to buy soon (to compare with DH’s list)

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/06/2022 06:56

hills there is no such thing as too many books.its clearly a lack of shelving<gavel>
ignores overflowing bookcase in my room I simply cannot cull with much loved treasures on it

Quiet day yesterday.lil zoo period started and was v painful causing her to vomit.then dd2peeiod started and she was in agony.
Lots hot water bottles and painkillers administered.not much else done bar acquiring more bread and milk and sit on my bum doing crochet now I've finally mastered granny squares!

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 03/06/2022 07:36

Definitely agree re books 😇
Well done on crochet progress zoo!

I’m getting bored sitting around and feel a bit more awake now so I’m going to potter around in the kitchen.

po3.2
❗️Put yesterday’s washing in dryer 😬😳
❗️Make sausage stew in the slow cooker
❗️Clean wax warmer

BeanAnTae · 03/06/2022 08:33

Ooh Perry sausage stew sounds lovely. And I love Paddington - he's my favourite bear 🐻.

Well done on crochet zoo.

Hope peace reigns in all households 🔻🔻🔻🔻

(Made own bunting above Dancing !)

Okay I'm rebooting my Flylady adherence - I know it's no Fledgling left behind but I really have fallen by the wayside recently. Other concerns were going on and I was just doggy-paddling through life and housework.

Much of the rubbish has left the garage. It needs a sweep and further assessment to see if more can leave for the dump. We got rid of all paint pots because they were ancient so we start again from scratch.

Back garden needs to be mown. It's a jungle (no really).

Laundry, I'm pleased to report, is under control at last. One basket of ironing (miracle of miracles). Sportswear currently in washing machine.

Thank you again ED for rolling over into June. Sorry I've not been more engaged.

I love a long soak in the bath Hills, and it’s lovely when you can get so absorbed in a book. I used to be the same with keeping books but I’m the opposite now. I have a couple of shelves of my absolute favourites and there’s a few on my ‘to read’ pile, but otherwise as soon as I’ve read one I pass it on. I tend to mainly buy them on kindle now too. We also got rid of all DVDs and CDs. I think I’ll struggle with DD’s books though. I try and follow the container concept but DD1’s book shelf is full even with the baby books now in DD2’s room and I don’t know if I can part with any. She might not be too bothered and happy to get rid but I don’t know if I can!

Doggy paddling is exactly how I’ve felt for a while Bean. Getting back into doing the home bleurgh helped a bit, but then half term arrived.

Star for getting on with your uni stuff at that time in the morning Perry!

The shovel is here if you need it Dancing

YesTaDas:
🇬🇧Cleared most of dining room so it looks more like a functioning room (just a few bigger toys to find new permanent homes for)
🇬🇧Wiped down dining table and arranged some flowers on it
🇬🇧put away lots of clean clothes
🇬🇧wiped and bagged up charity shop items
🇬🇧bagged up some bits for the textile bin

TaDas:
🇬🇧Everyone fed and dressed
🇬🇧LOL done and hanging on line
🇬🇧made a plan with DH for the next few days - he’s out today so it’s paddling pool in the garden for us. Fair tomorrow, then a family BBQ on Sunday which I am no longer having to host 🙌🏻
🇬🇧wrote shopping list with DH and dispatched him and DD1 to the supermarket, while I walked to a relatives with DD2 to tie in with nap time

ExtremelyDedicated · 03/06/2022 10:57

Morning all,

Yesterday was a fairly lazy day, following the morning ta-das I did another lot of laundry, an hour at the allotment and gave the bathroom a half-hearted clean. Watched quite a bit of the Jubilee stuff, Kirsty Young did a great job with the presenting considering she has been extremely ill. Then we had takeaway pizza in the evening.

Tada today.

🇬🇧ointmented cat
🇬🇧picked up click and collect shopping
🇬🇧put away shopping
🇬🇧one load of washing on line, next in WM
🇬🇧put some things I have given away on local FB outside door for collection

Books - I have a terrible charity shop habit and buy them faster than I can read them (I am mainly using audio books at the moment, or kindle). So my shelves are overflowing too. I am good at getting rid once they are finished with though.

Flylady once again does not know it’s a bank holiday in the UK, so here are today’s links just in case anyone wants them

flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Today’s mission is to spend 15 mins decluttering in Zone 1 (entrance, dining room etc)

BeanAnTae · 03/06/2022 11:46

I have been in the garage and the clean up is ongoing. We've swept all sorts of stuff off the floor. We need to clean garden tools, sort painting kit, make lists of council collection stuff, organise plastic boxes of stuff to be kept and decorations. Lego boxes and scooter to go to New home. Bike and barbecue need a wipe down. Chucked stuff that was unidentifiable, broken, old etc.

DH tackling back garden this afternoon.

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/06/2022 13:07

Bugger 2 pesky lines.
Ironically i am feeling so much better than i have done the last month Hmm
So for me covid is less bad than my chronic illnesses. forgive me whilst i sulk in the irony.

BeanAnTae · 03/06/2022 14:33

Oh no Hills 😱😬☹️ rotten luck

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/06/2022 14:46

Oh hills that sucks.hope it passes uneventfully

BeanAnTae · 03/06/2022 18:26

Backgarden now mowed which has allowed us to FINALLY install the new washing line 🥳🥳🥳

Dancingtomusic · 03/06/2022 22:51

Bean- love the bunting you made!

Hills- oh dear hills. Sending a huge hug!

Zoo- hope zoolets are ok? Sending you all lots of hot water bottles.

Ed- i thought Kirsty Young was absolutely wonderful in presenting the Jubilee coverage. I watched more because it was her anchoring the program together in a thoughful, kind and generous way. I am very sad to hear she has been ill. I didnt know that- i hope she is ok now?

🍒👋 everyone

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 03/06/2022 23:47

ta da
👑finished a chapter of uni book
👑sent an email
👑deleted lots of emails
👑made list of necessary purchases (not as bad as I feared!)
👑cleaned wax warmer
👑did some planning with DD1 re revision for mocks etc
👑did some home ed lesson planning for DS
👑shifted laundry and made DD1 so some of hers
👑cleared and cleaned bedroom windowsill
👑washed out a couple of plant pots
👑cleaned bedroom windows
👑bedding LOL
👑updated half term task list, felt pleased with progress
👑tidy top of desk, wiped computer etc (some stash and dashing occurred)
👑emptied desk drawer and reorganised (as above)
👑lots of online stuff for uni
👑remade bed with DH
👑proper groom of Cagbunny with a glove - produced enough hair to knit her a friend
👑shower

Pretty pleased with that - achy and tired now though. Also didn’t actually ever finish my power of three earlier as I never got round to making the stew, since I didn’t want to give DD1 any excuse to not talk about revision (“but you were busy mum…”). So I’ll have to do that tomorrow.

Sending healthy vibes to all ailing Fledglings. 💕🌸

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 04/06/2022 09:28

Morning all. MN is still being silly on my phone, not as bad as before though.

Feeling rather sleepy and achy this morning thanks to all the cleaning yesterday. Need to keep making progress though - must find that tricky balance between “getting lots of stuff done and feeling ready to return to term time” and “doing so much I burn out before term time” 😬🤔🤣

po3.1
❗️Get up, get dressed and have breakfast
❗️Move some laundry onto the sofa to sort through
❗️Clean weekly planner board

ExtremelyDedicated · 04/06/2022 09:59

Morning all,

Sorry to hear about the two lines Hills, hope you make a swift recovery. The tiredness was the main thing for me when I had it a few months ago.

Perry - you are on fire with your lists this week!

Bean well done on the garden, washing line and garage. You have inspired me to go and make a start on my garden shed today, it still has quite a lot of crap in it from when we did the kitchen nearly a year ago, so that stuff needs to go, plus there seem to be plant pots and jam jars EVERYWHERE.

Dancing - Kirsty Young had a severe case of rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia, so she has been extremely unwell. I find her voice so soothing.

<waves at all the other Fledglings>

OP posts:
CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 04/06/2022 10:41

Ah poor Kirsty. It is nice that she has been open about her illness - helps others with chronic illnesses I think.

How you feeling hills I understand the annoying irony. Colds I’ve had recently have been far far worse for me in terms of relapse than when we had covid in September. That was our second infection though so I guess that plus of course being vaccinated made a huge difference. The first time I was so, so unwell but oddly did get a lot fitter for a while after?!

Anyway I am having a nice relaxing morning watching Nick Knowles’ Big House Clearout.

Upsadiddles · 04/06/2022 10:45

Morning everyone. I’ve had a disturbed night with DD1, she was really restless and complained of feeling poorly. Seems a bit better this morning but I think we’ll avoid the fair just in case, unless she makes a rapid recovery. We all had Covid last month so at least I no longer need to fear that.

YesTaDas:
👑 cleared the ironing pile and hung it all up
👑washed and put away the last of the glasses that we sorted out. We now have only 6 each of matching wine and prosecco glasses all shiny and neat in the kitchen cupboard, as we are unlikely to have more than that for Sunday lunch etc, then I’ve boxed up a few of the nicer ones back in the drink cupboard for if we are hosting more. The rest have gone except for some shot glasses. I can live in hope.
👑kept on top of dishes, fed the DC, picked up the odd bit of random crap now and then
👑fun in the garden and a movie night with DD1

TaDas:
💂‍♂️LOL washed and hung out
💂‍♂️s&s, plus a tidy up of the bathroom
💂‍♂️put some of DD’s toys away that she’d had in our room
💂‍♂️walked up to relatives house with DD2, and did some small jobs there - dishes, plant watering etc

Sorry to see that second line appeared Hills. Hope you get a mild dose. I did, apart from a random migraine aura one day despite me not having had one for years.

you’re inspiring me to do the garden too Bean. Hurrah for the new washing line.

Impressive list yesterday Perry.

🍒👋 to Dancing, Willow, Zoo, ED, Hazel and Merry, Fly, Red, Foxes, Tidy, Mc, That, Ditzy and any other lovely fledglings I’ve missed that may be lurking.

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/06/2022 12:18

Thank you for all the kind wishes. I did finally sleep, but i feel invincible on a level of sleep that is not normal for humans so that is an interesting thing. On a plus note it seems to be flushing the sinus infection i have been battling for months out my system and has lifted the chronic ear ache so that is really nice.

Obviously i am not going to leave the house but i do need to study at some point so i need to figure how best within the house to achieve that when i normally have to leave to make progress. I also have a feeling we will have 3rd man officially down today. ds is still nocturnal.

Yesterday's ta da
laundry - 4 loads
potato prep (i have gloves for catering and ds reminds me if i forget to use them)
washing up
figure out how to get the best out of the new dishwasher that has been in the house since maybe Jan/feb time but not used
get ds to move the tub of fish water so that i can do a water change on them
make a list of everyone that needs to be contact in terms of cancelling and rearranging stuff cos of plague
catch up with a couple of friends thanks to technology
consider making doughnuts
drink enough water to drown a fish and play a game of balancing electrolytes.
got ds to apply fresh dressing to a wound on my back i can't reach. Apparently it is infected <sigh> He has agreed to apply new later for me today
Help ds work through the steps to figure out how to resolve a problem he has.

Did anyone else feel incredibly dehydrated with covid?

BeanAnTae · 04/06/2022 12:34

Yes to dehydrated Hills. I prescribe watered down orange juice for you.

Just a heads up too that while I'm just about menopausal Covid gave me the gift of a returned menstrual cycle which then triggered investigations for uterine cancer. The joy.

ExtremelyDedicated · 04/06/2022 12:35

I felt light-headed and a bit dizzy for the first couple of days Hills. Had to be careful on the stairs. So maybe not dehydrated as such but some similar symptoms.

OP posts:
BeanAnTae · 04/06/2022 12:43

Salt water is good for wounds Hills which you probably know anyway. Sorry you're going through all this.

THATissooFETCH · 04/06/2022 14:22

<sets up camp>

I feel like shat

I caught work germs

I also emotionally feel like shat

I told the man child to go stay elsewhere

Brew anyone? ☕️
