Fledglings Flying into Jubilee June

Hello everyone, and welcome to the June Flylady thread.

We welcome newbies and returnees - if you are curious about the system feel free to ask questions or lurk! We do follow it, erm, loosely to say the least. So there is a lot of chat about random life stuff as well as housework, decluttering and organising.

A key element of flylady is not being a perfectionist. Most of us here are not naturals at housekeeping etc, so please don’t feel we are some intimidating group who demand perfectly shined sinks. We are human. We fall off the wagon. We commiserate and help each other climb back on, and we stock the virtual naughty corner with snacks and blankets for the days when adulting is just too hard.

So, the system:
🔹Some baby steps which are designed to help you build up a routine.
🔹Daily missions to help with sprucing up particular areas in the zones, for example the first zone of the month is the entry/porch and dining room if you have one.

🔹Try and do 15 minutes decluttering a day. It didn’t get cluttered in a week so it will take a lot longer to clear it!

🔹Daily focuses to help shape the week.
🔹Here on the thread many of us post to do lists, but also “ta da” lists of things we’ve achieved that day.
🔹We also recommend the Power of Three technique - if you’re overwhelmed with too much to do, just pick three things and don’t think about the rest.

Anyway, I will post some links each day (hopefully) but whether you follow the system or not - many of us just take the bits we like or build our own flylady style system to suit our own lives - do join in if you want a place to chat about keeping a house and family running!

I've been lurking. Loving the productive lists!
Happy birthday to your DS3 and DS1 Willow !
Up I am in awe how much you can do with two littles on your hands! Makes me feel hopeful. My cycle is still so all over the shop thanks to breastfeeding so baby #2 is not quite happening yet.
Hills lots of hugs and positive energy your way.
Coffee hi! How are you settling in?

No ta das today yet, but over the weekend managed a bit:

  • LOLx2. All had to be dried outside as the dryer packed in (well, a little piece that locks the door is broken so the whole thing wouldn't start). I like line drying, but I am not organised enough to peg out/take down in time during work week.
  • food batch cooked
  • kitchen cleaned multiple times throughout the day
  • endless DW rotation
  • I bought a new work bag (which fits everything and a kitchen sink and still looks nice) and for the first time in forever my bag is Organised and Rubbish free!
  • car cleaned out on the inside (feels like a Friday..)

I love hearing about miniUp and other littlies. Mine is quite strapping at the moment and taller than me.

House is in a state of disarray and I'm mad busy at work. Not sure when zone cleaning we'll get done but I'll crack on.

Love the sound of the camper - perhaps that's what Hills needs. Waves to MC and everyone else. 🌷

It is unfortunately part of the medical condition the individual has, and won't get better. Welfare wise they need me here. This situation is not unusual, no one finds it fun. But it is all too common. I will face the battles on this level, and then when the more personal care is required hand over the batton to siblings who are unable to fight these battles face on. I am the only one who can stand up to the person and get away with it. The others would be destroyed. And unfortunately to take a regroup would be to admit defeat and I would no longer be able to deal with the welfare side of things that require my strength.

One good thing has come from the mess, roofer has now been booked to fix the leak.

to do
be driver for person - need to clear car out as currently nowhere for them to sit
run errands in city 2 over
dw emptied and put on to run again
chicken tea cooked
chicken soup for tomo put on to cook in slow cooker
3hrs of on line lectures
rebook exams
exercises completed from yesterday's lectures
online assignment done
stupid owl
early night

Hello, jumping back in as I seem to have kicked the MN habit almost entirely, which is a good thing in general but I really don’t want to give up this thread!

Woke up just before 6 with a sore throat/ear, did the Wordle/mini crossword, had painkillers/snack/water and went back to sleep until just before 10 😳 glad to have caught up on sleep though - on Saturday we went to Wembley to see Twenty One Pilots, they were amazing but the journey was awful due to bus cancellations and road closures (couldn’t do usual route due to train strikes).

DD1 has mocks all week - hoping it’ll give her the kick to actually do more work at home 😬🤔

Right, best get up as my colleague needs to pick up some stuff in about an hour so I need to get ready for that.

po3.1
❗️Meds, breakfast
❗️Shower, dressed
❗️Sort stuff for colleague

BeanAnTae · 27/06/2022 12:02

I have not only been neglecting the thread but also my wee hoose too. Am making an effort in all directions.

hills 🌷

HillsBesideTheSea · 27/06/2022 17:28

We have a truce. Uneasy because i know we will go through this again another time, and tbh i am still pretty pissed off even though i know some of it can't be helped hopefully peace can be maintained for a while

Didn't manage to get the exams rebooked but hopefuly that a good chunk of the rest of it might happen.

Move everything that is at risk of being contaminated by glass fibre when we vent the crawl space to dry it out after the roof is fixed
discussed some plans of stuff that is required
I returned some clothes i had picked up for me that didn't fix and got the t-shirts ds required in the same go

And breathe...

BeanAnTae · 28/06/2022 07:06

Morning. The Guardian reports today that the utility room has become a status symbol although one contributor to the article said that in reality it's just another room to throw crap in 😁

I've gone down in the world so because unlike my last house, this one doesn't have one. 😱

BeanAnTae · 28/06/2022 07:13

The problem with a utility room is that I'd never keep an eye on how the washing machine is doing and I wouldn't notice when cycles had finished. We'd run out of clothes 😬

ExtremelyDedicated · 28/06/2022 08:57

We've never had one and I don't really feel the need for one, our tumble dryer is in the shed though, not the kitchen. WM in the kitchen is fine and we have a tall "utility" cupboard for the vacuum cleaner, mop, other non food stuff. I think what I would like it for would be a separate space for taking off shoes when coming in from the garden and cat litter trays (ours have those in the understairs cupboard, we leave the door ajar for them as the stairs go across the house it isn't in the way like that).

This morning we are still in Zone 5, the Living Room and today's mission is detailed dusting, picture frames etc. I haven't done this for a while, DD took over the living room as her GCSE revision HQ and I've hardly been in there for the last few weeks (I tend to be in the kitchen or garden or allotment in the evenings at this time of year). Here is the flight plan link

We don’t have a utility room, the dryer lives under the stairs!

Feeling utterly overwhelmed again today, need to get sorted ASAP. Meetings done for the day but have other stuff to get done for work as well as the essay really needing to be finished by tomorrow. Am a mess. Not sure if my meds have maybe stopped working but don’t want to risk a break in case that makes things worse!

po3.1
❗️Prep for maths lesson
❗️LOL
❗️Write work to do list for what to do later today

BloomingHazel · 28/06/2022 14:23

I do have a utility room in this house, which is actually a big room. We still have boxes in it from moving last year and right now it's a really big mess with lots of laundry from the camper 🤦‍♀️ we will need to get shelves for it, but unless we spend a fortune, the shelves all look hideous! So yes, I agree it's a big catch-all that will probably take 5 years to get sorted at this rate.

I just dropped DS off at cross-country, I'm now sitting enjoying my 1st cup of coffee under a blanket on the couch. Yes, I should have started a load (especially with how much is down there now). I'll get it after my coffee!
Oh, Bean we had to buy a new washer and dryer a couple of years ago and these play a tune when they get finished. It can be shut off, but I leave it on so I know when it's done. I can hear it throughout the house, which is helpful.

DS and I have dentist appts today, so does DD. After lunch, DD will be coming over to sort out food for camping. Her and her DF are coming with us. We will be leaving Thursday, coming back Sunday so need to have plenty of food.

I just want my bed right now!

BloomingHazel · 28/06/2022 14:28

Oh, I feel like I must add, the bedding we sleep on is mostly what was the dirtiest (and even then, not that bad) in the camper. We were planning on going camping again, but it never happened. Then it sat. For 2 years. Well, technically last year, but only just cleaned it up on Saturday. The towels were all clean, but needed freshened up. I did get a pillow washed as well, 2 more to do today. Our sleeping bags are both washed, and I have one more big blanket to wash for DS, then we are ready to go. The rest of the laundry can wait. (For the camper).
Sorry I'm rambling. I might need a 3rd cup of coffee today 😴

HillsBesideTheSea · 28/06/2022 14:41

I might have already had a 3rd cup hazel i think the coffee is defective!

BeanAnTae · 28/06/2022 15:13

I'm on decaf now 😁. Right I need to get to ASDA to buy dinner. Laundry is under control. Have done zero zone cleaning but have tidied an in-tray. And wrote out the family weekly planner. It's plan and play day I think.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 28/06/2022 16:30

I am barely doing any housework atm I must confess! Laundry is mostly my domain but that’s about it.

I managed to do maths lesson despite some tech issues, have been doing nothing since. Not feeling the whole essay thing while in sole charge of the younger two (DH dropped them back after DS’ science classes, then went straight back out to meet DD1 for a GP appt) so best do other stuff first.

po3.2
❗️LOL in dryer
❗️Photograph some stuff for work and email it
❗️Edit one to one form

BloomingHazel · 29/06/2022 03:52

Ta Das:
🌺 cooked DH his eggs
🌺 picked DS up from cross-country, then dropped him off at summer school
🌺 dentist for DS and me (picked DS up & dropped him back to school afterwards)
🌺 vacuumed main floor
🌺 sprayed a thin layer of foaming carpet cleaner to freshen up the carpet
🌺 took DS swimming
🌺 DD and her DF came over to sort out meals for camping
🌺 went shopping with DD and DF
🌺 picked up DS from swimming
🌺 Prepped meals for camping
🌺 throughout the day I did laundry. Lots of laundry. 5 LOLs, I believe. Would have been more if I was home all day though
🌺 Rotated DW

I'm currently sitting on the couch with my feet up! I'm listening to DS whistling through his nose - he fell asleep on the couch and don't have the heart to wake him. He's so stuffed up with hay fever. He's not usually this bad, but this year he's having to take allergy meds every day so far.
I'm just waiting on a LOL to get done so I can move it to the dryer. I washed pillows today, and the dryer was messing up the outer layer on both pillows. Hopefully they'll be dry enough, or I'll have to buy more before Thursday 😱
🍒👋 to everyone. I'm at work tomorrow so may not post any ta das

Redsquirrel5 · 29/06/2022 05:28

Hi everyone,
Well I am not impressed with the new forum. Still cant access by ipad and DH is on here a lot. Not very tech savvy and didn't want to ask him. Tried changing password then forgot what it was, then it wouldn't let me change it again and tried rejoining to no avail. Discovered I cant access anything on the Ipad. Decided since I am up and not sleeping i would try on here.Bingo! Reset password to old one and I am here at last. Mostly been reading along with you all. Missed you all. Missed a bit of May beginning of June when Jubilee took over. Ended up making over a 100 biscuits and ten cakes(not buns) and never managed to sit down.Think it was a success.

I was on holiday in North of Scotland last week and to see DS, who is loving it up there. Lots of fab meals out, lots of fish. DH, DS1 & DS2 went up Ben Nevis. I have Plantar Fasciitis so not much walking for me. Jacobite was cancelled due to rail strike😣
Back home Monday to realise house quite a mess. Fresh eyes etc It got out of control due to more market work and helping people and the Jubilee extended baking, open garden etc. So now refreshed and started back in earnest.

Ta Da, yesterday.
wiped pictures on wall.
" curtain rail
washed window
wiped frame and window sill
reorganised candles
wiped table and put away some knick knacks
wiped plant stands ( bought new plant pot when away, check out Gisela Graham)
dusted clock
sorted a suitcase and contents. Not holiday but baby stuff from loft.Washing it all.
Sorted some magazines.
Sprinkled then vacuumed floor.
Suggested DH do fireplace.I was going to do it and asked burn or recycle ALL that paper. He took the hint.

Today
Need to vacuum sofa
sorted any lurking piles of RCs under sofa and move and vacuum.

Then sitting room all done and I can start on the rest. Dining room disaster zone of loft suitcase washing pile, Ukraine pile of donations and toiletries for bagging up. Pile of BCRs on other side and table with plates we bought and not been told what to do with them. I kept two. Otherwise it just needs dusting and vacuuming.
Front entrance has BRC x3 and some stuff on the table. I shall try to do that today.

Hope to keep in touch more.
Welcome newbies.
Hugs for oldies.🤗

Redsquirrel5 · 29/06/2022 05:28

Yeah, it worked!

BeanAnTae · 29/06/2022 07:23
