Fledglings Flying into Jubilee June

Hello everyone, and welcome to the June Flylady thread.

We welcome newbies and returnees - if you are curious about the system feel free to ask questions or lurk! We do follow it, erm, loosely to say the least. So there is a lot of chat about random life stuff as well as housework, decluttering and organising.

A key element of flylady is not being a perfectionist. Most of us here are not naturals at housekeeping etc, so please don’t feel we are some intimidating group who demand perfectly shined sinks. We are human. We fall off the wagon. We commiserate and help each other climb back on, and we stock the virtual naughty corner with snacks and blankets for the days when adulting is just too hard.

So, the system:
🔹Some baby steps which are designed to help you build up a routine.
🔹Daily missions to help with sprucing up particular areas in the zones, for example the first zone of the month is the entry/porch and dining room if you have one.

🔹Try and do 15 minutes decluttering a day. It didn’t get cluttered in a week so it will take a lot longer to clear it!

🔹Daily focuses to help shape the week.
🔹Here on the thread many of us post to do lists, but also “ta da” lists of things we’ve achieved that day.
🔹We also recommend the Power of Three technique - if you’re overwhelmed with too much to do, just pick three things and don’t think about the rest.

Anyway, I will post some links each day (hopefully) but whether you follow the system or not - many of us just take the bits we like or build our own flylady style system to suit our own lives - do join in if you want a place to chat about keeping a house and family running!

BloomingHazel · 06/06/2022 04:08

Dancing I made pork carnitas in the slow cooker, I haven't made it in a long time. I have it in a bowl with cheese, while everyone else can enjoy it in a tortilla. It's not quite as nice in a bowl 😕
The tea helped a little, but I'm currently in the bath with Epsom salts (I added bubbles and have candles going - why not?) I'm also drinking a hot toddy. I did message my boss to give her a heads up of how I'm feeling right now. I will see how I feel in the morning and try to go into work if I'm not so achey. I really need to be there tomorrow so need to feel better! 😩

Dancing I just realised how late it was over there when you posted, you'll end up with less than 4 hours of sleep 😱 I don't know how you do it!

🍒👋 to everyone

ExtremelyDedicated · 06/06/2022 07:43

Hazel - hope you feel better today.

Dancing - everything sounds very tricky for you at the moment, hope you find a path forward that works for you.

Hills - yes to the formatting stuff being a PITA in new-look MN

Perry - you have done so well with your list this half term

Bean - lucky you with blue skies, the rain just about held off for our Jubilee picnic with the neighbours but it was very grey and overcast and a bit mizzly.

Zoo - hope you got all the shopping sorted and that return to school isn’t too traumatic.

Red - thinking about you here too. Also Ditzy, Mc, all the other Fledglings who are hopefully lurking somewhere and are OK.

About to stick the kettle on if anyone fancies a cuppa.

Today we return to The Kitchen and our mission is to scrub the counter tops properly, behind and under appliances etc.

It is also weekly home blessing day, but as discussed last month Monday’s aren’t the best day for everyone to attempt that one.

Morning. Feeling a bit sneezy and achy again and my ear was buzzing like a dial up modem 🤔 but need to be getting up really.

po3.1
❗️Meds and breakfast
❗️Make sure girls are ready to go soon (later start for DD1 this morning due to staff training) and discuss revision plan with DD1 before she goes
❗️Go through half term list to finally see results!

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 06/06/2022 10:08

Right. So out of my insane plan (which I did actually name “half term: a list of admirable but unlikely aims”) I managed to complete 38 of 75 tasks. And made progress on another 19. I’m quite pleased with that. Normally I wouldn’t have such a massive list but I’d also achieve much less, so I think this approach was a helpful one.

po3.2
❗️Move laundry on - next up is the pile of stuff to pass on to a friend
❗️Make a work plan for the day as loads of enquiries came in over half term
❗️Discuss home ed plan for DS

Dancingtomusic · 06/06/2022 20:45

perry- 75 items on your list! .......faints ......
Hats of to you! Weldone for getting 38 done.

Ed- love the word 'Mizzle'what a beautiful way of explaining fine rain!

Hazel- honestly hope you feel better. Such a good idea to soak with epson salts does it help? I never think of that- and love the idea of a hot toddy too!
Aww, i fall asleep around 10pm wake up around 1pm- awake till 3.30am ish- fall asleep again and struggle to wake up early!

Tadas-

  • kids to breakfast club- miracle!
  • volunteered and i loved it! Soo much fun!
-came home half day and laundry in dryer. -cooked rice to go with chicken. -baked a bannana, blueberries and orange zest, vanilla cake- it was lovely- even tho i forgot the sugar 🤣🤦‍♀️

-kids both swimming/fed everyone- even H as we are on speaking terms.
-got a lovely email that cheered me up!
-d/w on.

Red- hope your sister is ok? I am thinking of you both.
Hills- hope you are still functioning, and not feeling too ill.
Up- lovely hope you are ok.
That- how are you? How are things at home?

🍒👋everyone

If you had to get rid 50% of stuff in your house- could you do it?

HillsBesideTheSea · 06/06/2022 21:16

Evening dancing - epsom salts can really help. I used to use them a lot for sore /achy muscles etc. I have a more powerful solution which means i don't need to rely on them as much, but a good soak in the bath with epsom salts always a treat.

I did post earlier. MN ate my post. Any one else notice the jump to specific post from thread's i'm on has vanished now? New platform has some quirks.

ta da
rearrange a couple of the things that were supposed to be done this week.
failed to get hold of hospital department to rearrange that
had enough mind to be tempted to crack open the text books
discover rushing around causes coughing Hmm
deal with the people who were various and different sorts of problems today
start to make a shopping list for things we needed
cottage pie for tea for the people
sweet potato soup for tea for me
make teen snort water out his nose in shock/amusement
dishwasher running
all meals catered for people in various manners
deal with phone handset that was not playing nice

Consider making a master list.

After spending most of the day in bed i think i am about ready to sleep. With the windows open all the time, hayfever is starting to kick my butt.

BloomingHazel · 07/06/2022 03:57

Yes Dancing Epsom salts help me a lot. I'm bummed out that I used the last of them last night so I can't have another bath tonight with them 😩 the ones I get are infused with coconut oil, but my favourite is the lavender, although the store was out of the lavender when I bought them last.
hills what did you do to make teen snort water out of his nose?!

So I'm pretty pissed off at a coworker. I had messaged our boss last night to let her know I wasn't feeling well, so did she apparently. She is one who is always calling in sick or leaving early (very much a hyperchondriac and paranoid). I knew she wasn't going to be in today so I sucked it up and went in (we already have someone on holiday and only have 4 people in the office). I feel like crap! My throat would get dry when I would talk, which would make me cough, which made my throat even more dry. It was a viscous cycle.
I'm pretty sure I caught the sickly co-worker's cold, which started out with just body aches for me, then a headache. I'm just miserable and pissed off! She's like a little toddler, can't handle any discomfort at all like not even a little bit of hunger. It's bizarre. I couldn't even bring myself to rely to get text this morning saying she wasn't going to be in. My reply would have been "fuck off!"
Sorry for ranting. It feels better to get out the frustration, but would have been even better if I could have stayed home today. I'm off tomorrow though. It is a full day, including a hair appt for me, if I'm feeling better that is.

BloomingHazel · 07/06/2022 03:59

Oops I just saw a typo 🤦‍♀️ I couldn't bring myself to reply to her text

ExtremelyDedicated · 07/06/2022 07:20

Oh, how frustrating Hazel, probably just as well you didn’t send that text but it would have been very satisfying to do so.

Tada (yesterday)
🍏Work
🍎Ironing
🍏Cook dinner
🍎Brush cats (take life in hands with one of them)
🍏Put away contents of veg box and reorganise fridge
🍎online banking
🍏Put out some clothes for charity shop
🍎Go to gym
🍏Put out clothes for today

Haven’t scrubbed counters a la Flylady though.

Anyway, today we are still in the kitchen, our mission is to clean our trash cans - ours looks OK ATM, it is relatively new and I have been nagging DH about remembering to clean it when he changes the liner.

Popping past, sorry I fell off. 🍒👋 and love to everyone, particularly those struggling with health / spouses. I am just here to report that I

💖 CLEANED THE UNDERSINK CUPBOARD WHERE THE FOOD WASTE BIN LIVES.

Oh yes. Am a goddess.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 07/06/2022 11:36

Morning all. Hope all ailing Fledglings are doing ok!

YesTaDa
♟laundry
♟work
♟emailed maths invoice and homework
♟sorted meds for the next fortnight
♟printed blank study planners and filled in a couple of days for older two
♟swapped Cagletini’s books between storage and bedroom (sort of a stock rotation)
♟emailed maths teachers
♟maths with DS
♟cut out some craft bits and drawer labels
♟found and printed maths revision for DD1
♟put Cagletini to bed
♟read to DD1 (GCSE text)

I have lots of little tasks I want to get done today, however following a staff meeting I now have an epic to do list for work and some of that is pretty urgent.

po3.1
❗️Send link for maths lesson
❗️Find something for tomorrow’s pupil
❗️Get back on laptop and plough through tasks

HillsBesideTheSea · 07/06/2022 12:36

Ds and i were discussing his need for antihistamine for his tree pollen allergy.
Him - never leave the house don't need it
Sarcastic Me - sure because you are never going to accidentally breathe in tree sex in the house.
There were a few other comments flying about but that one was not expected and caught him off guard. Admittedly it is also not entirely true but he was really pissing me off which his know it all attitude that has led to several exchanges of opinion of late. Best form of revenge.

Didn't sleep well. got addicted to a drama series and it was later than it should have been when i finished it last night. Did finish the main bulk of craft project. It just needs an edging and then it is done.

Easy day today because there is one person who is deliberately being and arse and I am trying not to take the bait on that mess. I am likely to fail due to not enough sleep.

BeanAnTae · 07/06/2022 13:41

Shudders - I hate the undersink cupboard!

At work so briefly:

Tidied kitchen and had walk this morning. Did posture stretches.

Working now but plan for walk later. Ordered more HDMI cables for work from home laptop.

Read article for colleague.

Squeeze more work in before taking break.

ExtremelyDedicated · 08/06/2022 07:17

Morning all, need to go and get showered/dressed for work so just a quick fly by from me. Last night’s tadas mainly consisted of allotment work and paperwork for a volunteer role, not much actual Flying. Today I have fed the cats and made my packed lunch.

Today in Flying we are meant to be scrubbing our kitchen taps

Dancingtomusic · 08/06/2022 07:43

Ed- must have been nice at the allotment.

Willow- gold 🌟for tackling under the sink.

If you had to read a Picture book to Year 4 for approx 5mins- what would recommend please?📚

HillsBesideTheSea · 08/06/2022 08:21

we dont eat out class mates... ridiculous and might make them laugh but with a interesting untale of to how to be a friend. So would be a root to open a discussion on what makes a friend, etc

Fledglings Flying into Jubilee June
CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 08/06/2022 08:32

Hmm year 4 (assuming you mean that and not 4 year olds?) is quite old for picture books so that’s tricky, is it definitely one story rather than a chapter of a longer book?
One possible option though is The Book With No Pictures by B J Novak 😁 but if you want something more sedate, the Katie books by James Mayhew are nice, all about art.
(if it’s 4 year olds I can recommend any number of books!)

Well done indeed for the under sink clearing willow - I have bought a special shelf thing that fits round pipes, but it’s been sitting on top of the fridge for weeks because I daren’t tackle the cupboard yet.

YesTaDa
🥝work - meeting and various other tasks
🥝washed and folded old clothes for friend’s DS
🥝maths lesson online
🥝got DS to sort through all his Transformer toys as he mentioned that lots could go, he’s really only into the most realistic set now
🥝put Cagletini to bed (epic task as she just wasn’t tired)
🥝read a bit of A Christmas Carol to DD1

Happy to report that DS also attended his first physics lesson. He was apprehensive as he wanted to only focus on chemistry, plus it was immediately after his other lesson, but he came back beaming 😁

Feeling very lazy this morning and a bit stressed as plans are a bit up in the air. Really must get up now.

po3.1
❗️Meds
❗️Sort Cagbunny litter
❗️Shower and get dressed

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 08/06/2022 08:32

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 08/06/2022 08:54

Morning all! Am up and at 'em today, went to Tesco at 7.15 as that was the only point in the day it would fit.

Last few days' TaDas:
❤️ Kept on top of laundry
🧡 Did more writing, am on track to finish on time
💛 Made decision about ordering springback binders for reports
💚 Handed over three Billy bookcase toppers via TrashNothing
💙 Ds3's birthday present arrived
💜 Almost finished DS2's GF's birthday present dress (just zip and hem to do)
❤️ Cleaned under sink cupboard, did I mention that? (Going to be dining out on that for weeks 😁)
🧡 Got WillowHound manicured and washed. Gave him a treat for being a good boy which he promptly buried in the garden and got his snoot all muddy again 🤦

to do:
🍒 Order springback binders
🍒 Book swimming with DS3 and take him. I have to be seen in a bathing costume 😭. Please ignore any whale sightings in the greater London area.
🍒 More writing
🍒 Sew zip and hem on DS2's GF's dress
🍒 Write birthday card etc for said GF
🍒 Handstitch hem on DD's dress - boastful photos coming once they're both finished, I promise.
🍒 Update diary for various coffee commitments I've made
🍒 Tell DD's school she's in Durham next Friday.
🍒 Order a birthday gift for my sister for Monday and post it, with card.

I am also in Durham next Thursday/ Friday as no hotel will take DD without an adult, but she wants to go "alone" - so we are travelling separately, staying in adjacent rooms with no contact and only actually checking out together. I feel so loved and valued 🤣🤣.

Best get going, today is drifting away from me already!

Fledglings Flying into Jubilee June
Upsadiddles · 08/06/2022 09:54

Hi everyone, I’ve been reading along but have lost two separate posts with the stupid random refresh thing since the weekend. Determined to post today! Not much to report here - certainly nothing of the level of cleaning of under the sink (have another Star Willow). I’ve spent the last few days doing little bursts of sorting in DD1’s room. I still wasn’t happy with the storage etc, as it just doesn’t really work and she struggles with putting things away. So there’s been some more rejigging over the last few days and I think I’m almost there. I’ve also swapped some of her winter and summer clothes in and out of the wardrobe, decluttered my shoes and handbags, and sent the unwanted things to charity. I ordered myself some new trainers and jeans that I’ve needed for a while, and some more storage solutions including a shoe unit I’ve had in the online basket for weeks.

The TaDa list is looking a little sparse so far this morning - everyone dressed, beds made, DD1 deposited at school, bought milk, emptied DW. It’s so miserable today I’ve climbed back into bed with a cuppa while MiniUp snoozes.

Sorry to hear of difficult men That and Dancing Flowers. You’re both strong women and will be fine however things work out.

Hope you feel better soon Hazel, and the lurgy doesn’t cause you any more problems Hills (thanks for the fire alarm reminder - ours are on the electric but I know they still need checked. DH regular sets ours off when he’s doing a steak but hasn’t for a while so better have a look).

Dancing I think I probably have got rid of about 50% of our stuff over the last few years. Don’t think I could get rid of half of what we have now, but I now feel like we have space for it all so don’t need to. DD1’s stuff is pushing it though.

To Do:
👋 post return
👋 order prescription
👋 make some sort of effort in the kitchen

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 08/06/2022 10:38

I definitely couldn’t get rid of half of what we have now, but we have done a huge amount of decluttering over the last few years. I think we are finally at the point where we wouldn’t actually be eligible to go on the Nick Knowles show/SYLO as the clutter isn’t THAT bad other than our bedroom. Still a long way to go mind.

Just had my monthly review with the boss, lovely as always, she’s so encouraging.

po3.1
❗️Print stuff off for pupil
❗️Message a colleague and the boss about something important
❗️Teach!

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 08/06/2022 13:29

Gah. Pointy stick very much needed. Bored and restless but unmotivated - classic ADHD combo which is not at all helpful!

po3.3
❗️Attempt to wash fabric dye off hands 🙈
❗️Get onto laptop and stop procrastinating over a couple of tasks
❗️Craft with Cagletini
