Fledglings Flying into Jubilee June

Hello everyone, and welcome to the June Flylady thread.

We welcome newbies and returnees - if you are curious about the system feel free to ask questions or lurk! We do follow it, erm, loosely to say the least. So there is a lot of chat about random life stuff as well as housework, decluttering and organising.

A key element of flylady is not being a perfectionist. Most of us here are not naturals at housekeeping etc, so please don’t feel we are some intimidating group who demand perfectly shined sinks. We are human. We fall off the wagon. We commiserate and help each other climb back on, and we stock the virtual naughty corner with snacks and blankets for the days when adulting is just too hard.

So, the system:
🔹Some baby steps which are designed to help you build up a routine.
🔹Daily missions to help with sprucing up particular areas in the zones, for example the first zone of the month is the entry/porch and dining room if you have one.

🔹Try and do 15 minutes decluttering a day. It didn’t get cluttered in a week so it will take a lot longer to clear it!

🔹Daily focuses to help shape the week.
🔹Here on the thread many of us post to do lists, but also “ta da” lists of things we’ve achieved that day.
🔹We also recommend the Power of Three technique - if you’re overwhelmed with too much to do, just pick three things and don’t think about the rest.

Anyway, I will post some links each day (hopefully) but whether you follow the system or not - many of us just take the bits we like or build our own flylady style system to suit our own lives - do join in if you want a place to chat about keeping a house and family running!

Redsquirrel5 · 29/06/2022 20:46

Thank you Willow.

And again i can log on and ipad keyboard typing yeah🥳 capitals not automatic. I 🧐

I have my Uggs on Hills.

Started Hall in am then finished when I came home even though I wanted to sit down. Market not busy. Took in five bags of clothing including one bag of baby 6mths stuff ahhh.

Only took £2 in donations. Made bunting. I quite like making it. I am thinking of scouring the charity shops for small bits of fabric and making some summer, vintage bunting to sell/ donations.

✅Put BRCs upstairs( not away as needs sorting).
✅cleaned glass in door
✅ dusted, then ran vacuum with soft brush over the oak.

✅vacuumed floor, pulling up carpet near door.
✅ used tools for edges and corners.
✅ sorted socks in stair basket and put away.

Need to vacuum stairs tomorrow.
Made pasta and Bol sauce. Glass of red wine

Anti procrastination.
Phone call - I forgot.
Bank - moved money. Hate seeing my savings dwindle.
Asda - returned dress. Now on card. Lovely young girl sorted it.

Glad to be back. Is Zoo ok? Haven’t seen much of her.

Think I might start on the bedroom tomorrow. Bathroom good, just needs the shower doors glass cleaned.

Hazel. Have fun camping.

BeanAnTae · 29/06/2022 21:02

Yes the weather has taken a turn for some of us 😁. I have had a nap - was working from home all day and just powered through. Made lovely dinner with new potatoes. Ds received a school prize for achievement in first year secondary - DH went as it was one parent only.

Am now about to do quick home tidy up and then settle into watching Das Boot season 2.

I did not manage to write the thank you note. Just got too busy. But I have exercised and stretched today so that's ticked off my to do list.

Dancingtomusic · 29/06/2022 21:32

Bean- weldone to your Ds!
And thank you.

Red - thank you .

Willow- weldone for getting your printing done.

Hills- hope you are ok.

I just want to pull a blanket over my head and stay hidden. I hate unkind people. My dad is so not understanding that i have to take the kids to school- no i cant get him to a hospital appt just like that!

BloomingHazel · 30/06/2022 05:16

Red! so good to see you!
It was so pretty warm here today, but not as hot as it has been, the A/C is still kicking on though. I put my very warm dressing gown on and covered up under my blanket on the couch.

I'm currently on my vacation from work! I'll go back next Wednesday 😱🥳 DD came over today and did quite a bit of cooking and food prep for camping. She was very busy. She cut up and roasted potatoes, baked brownies, even baked keto brownies for me too! She made Mac n cheese (with her homemade cheese sauce), as well as a dip for fruit. She had DS rinse the fruit (grapes and cherries).
I did go through the fridge and toss a bunch of leftovers (a little bit of this left, little bit of that, not a huge amount of anything really). DS rotated the DW, I just added a couple of things before turning it on.
I'm tired, I'll rotate the DW again in the morning, there's lots of empty containers that need to be washed now, but I'm exhausted from today at work.
🍒👋 to everyone

Morning all, it’s our last day in Zone 5, the living room today and it’s detailed vacuum cleaning, skirting boards, under the furniture etc. I have to leave this one to DH, I am not strong enough to shift all the furniture.

Thanks ED and thank you for all the thread leading. Although I haven’t been present I have been keeping up most days. Not been keeping up with the flying though due to all the garden and Jubilee stuff. Ready to kick myself up the bum and crack on. I’m off my meds bar BP and asthma and feel like the fog has lifted but have started not sleeping for chunks in the night again. However when I am awake in the morning I am properly awake and want to get cracking so if I can channel my new found energy I will soon turn it around again.

state of house
kitchen - not bad
bathroom - just shower door needs cleaned, did drop hint at DH but fell on deaf ears. Came home yesterday from volunteering to find he appears to have done nothing.
sitting room - almost completed. Vacuuming under sofa and in it. Remove collection of things that need put away in other places and magazines. I can move most.
boudoir - tip
room of doom ( craft room to newbies) - tip
DHs room - don’t know / don’t care

Garden

Garden beautiful
greenhouse - full of strawberries, courgettes and tomatoes all coming on nicely. A frame - lettuce and second planting of peas and broad beans.
path needs swept - how come I always do it.
summerhouse - clean and tidy due to open garden in Jubilee Week.

Well better get up and get cracking, after a mug of tea and toast. Feed the hens. Oh no I need to clean them and coop bloody mites again.

HillsBesideTheSea · 30/06/2022 11:18

My week has not gone to plan.
Exhaustion caught up with me last night. I slept more than 12hrs.
Safe places have been found though, and it has been determined that 30cm is not enough clearance for an adult to get under a bed when there are odd angles involved and thus the bed needs dismantling to do the thing. Hmm

So far today:
sorted order of doing of stuffs in the house
had some conversations with ds that probably shouldn't be over heard, but were funny
Looked at important letter an sworn because it wants to make everything online and I am NOT contactable online!!! i want my stuff in paper form, where i can annotate it and use my colour filters and not have to fight the fucking crap non-accessibility standards that have been set by the tech industry.
put a bread batch on to rise
looked at state of house and sworn

So basically mostly today i have walked around the house muttering and swearing. SO we are totally back to normal Hmm Grin
<sigh>

Oh and I cancelled my weekend away, so will only get a long day of travel instead. Sad but necessary.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 30/06/2022 13:28

RED!!! So glad to see you. New MN has driven me mad too, I’m barely on here now.

I have namechanged but the fact my youngest is referred to as Cagletini should help somewhat 😁

I’ve been pretty low lately but finally got my essay done (had a two week extension) and have got a few work/volunteering bits that were hanging over me done this week too so I feel a bit lighter now. I’ve made a template for the final two assignments including the questions so there will be less faffing about last minute.

Not sure what to do with myself now really but I have maths in an hour.

Dancing so happy for you! 💖

BeanAnTae · 30/06/2022 15:13

Yes Hills as my husband says accessible for him means paper not online due to migraines.

Red I have been to Lakeland and had a look at all the baking goodies. Came out with kitchen scissors, moth ball holders, set of chopping boards. We went to the city, you see, for a children break. Had coffee, went to Waterstones and had Thai food for lunch. Bought school uniform for next year - well got a start on it!

BeanAnTae · 30/06/2022 15:14

Waves to Perry - well done on essay!

BeanAnTae · 30/06/2022 15:15

Child free break not children break!!!

Redsquirrel5 · 30/06/2022 15:17

😂yeah I figured out after a couple of posts and family logistics and kallax who you were. Love the new name. I even tried to do that and it wouldn’t let me. It said already someone with that email despite trying to just change name. Anyway seems to be ok just now.

Hills what a shame re weekend.

I haven’t got much done as I wanted. DH was taking car to get brakes done serious grinding noise. I had planned to finish sitting room and hall downstairs then start boudoir. He didn’t go and has sat on sofa most of day so under sofa not done yet.
Friend rang and as he wasn’t going to garage I could go help her pack. She had to go give support to refugee and I haven’t heard from her since. I put off starting because thought I would be called soon. I have got a lot of washing done and some now on line. Everhot drying rest and have one load to go in.
so pussy footing around others means I didn’t get my stuff done properly. One bag of BRC done, letter to sponsored child done and posted.

right going to do half hour of mad cleaning and tossing.

HillsBesideTheSea · 30/06/2022 16:29

I spoke to the people and the form is being sent via paper but i need to send a cover letter saying why paper not online.
Currently on hold apparently a 20min wait Hmm the music is terrible and headache inducing

Ta da
town 2 over for banking, wilkinsons and a few other bits and pieces
pop into garden centre for some seeds

to do
laundry
washing up
batch cook cottage pie
final sweep before workmen are in tomo
cook the bread
check tyres and fluids on car

HillsBesideTheSea · 30/06/2022 16:30

Should point out on hold with different system, not the people from this morning

Evening all,

Tada!
Take DS to orthodontist (3 hours, long story and doing the same again next week)
Home, bit of work on laptop faffing around
Washed school uniform for THE LAST TIME EVER 🎉
Made shopping list
Helped DD with prom preparations for tomorrow (polishing necklace, practising hair etc)
Took elderly neighbour to supermarket and we both did our shopping together (person who normally takes her is on holiday).
Home and put shopping away
Finished audio book - Young Mungo by Douglas Stuart - brilliant but brutal
Bit more work
Went to friend’s house with DD for cat-sitting instruction for next week
Went to aquafit with friend while DD cooked Hello Fresh dinner (delicious)

We have tried both Gousto and Hello Fresh this month with discount codes. Been impressed with both and think we will carry on over the summer and get the DCs making as many of the meals as possible, the recipe cards are clear and easy to use.

I’m off for an early night - I am starting a new bullet journal for the new month tomorrow, I have slacked off it but think a fresh start is needed.
