Fledglings Soar Calmly into September - the FlyLady Thread

StillUpholding · 29/08/2021 15:23

Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

Morning all! Apologies for vanishing over the weekend, everytime I sat down to write something WillowHound wanted to sit on my knee, or required scritches between the shoulder blades. That dog is properly spoiled!

Then last night we went out-out for the first time in forever (probably 2 years? Certainly pre-lockdown 1). For Christmas, DS1, DD, DH and I had tickets to see Bring Me The Horizon (shouty metal). DS1 was going to Sheffield last Friday, and we went to O2 last night. Some chaos in that we had assumed DS2 would still be at home to babysit DS3 when the tickets were booked... so DS3 had an adventure staying with DS2 and GF in their new flat. Gig was good but not back until after midnight so all rather tired today.

However, normal service has apparently been resumed.
Ta da:
💖 Woken at 6.45am by DH's internet-connected stereo randomly turning itself on. Couldn't switch it off, just had to mute it. Went back to bed for a sulk.
🧡 Up, washed, meds, dressed, perfume, if not make up
💛 Drove for 90 minutes - took DD 5miles to her old junior school to volunteer for the morning, then drove back past our house and 6 miles in the other direction to collect DS3. Roads total chaos due to proximity of petrol stations to mini-roundabouts 🤦‍♀️
💚 Breakfast
💙 Wiped kitchen
💜 Updated fridge door planner
🤎 Sat down to read thread, plan day, write this. Fought off WillowHound again who missed us very much last night (first time he's been alone since 23 March 2020 I think) and is now following me round like, well, a little pet dog!

To do
🌂 more planning
☂ Get DD's timetable into my bullet journal
☔ collect DD at 12, bring her home to change, run her into school
🤿 Check what's for tea and defrost it
🌂 Check LOL situation
☂ Strip our bed
☔ have a nap
🤿 try not to kill DH for ruining the carpet under one of his beloved plants in the study. He's managed to felt it, somehow, as well as stain it with uncareful watering. I am not impressed.

Apols for missing personals, am right up against it today. Will try for them later. 🍒👋 to all in the meantime, and hello famous!

SingToTheSky · 27/09/2021 12:04

po3.3
❗️Eat something
❗️Book dancing for today and Thursday and sort arrangements for Friday for DD1 (offered a free concert ticket apparently)
❗️Get ready for electrician (this involves moving laundry out of the dryer cupboard in case they need the meter, and putting a bra on so I don’t traumatise them or die of embarrassment 🤣)

halfhope · 27/09/2021 12:54

I am working out my union subscription which changes mid tax year and only a proportion of which can be part of a tax rebate. I'm then going to claim tax relief on it for the past four years. I may be some time....

But I have made scones this morning and am about to sew ds's trousers.

halfhope · 27/09/2021 13:00

that and fiddle - I did read the paper to them! The lovely lady who owned them worked in advertising and was sadly an alcoholic but she doted on the two cats. Elliott was the older of the two and one day Rosie came up from Cork to Dublin by taxi and joined the household. Elliott would show her how to use the catflap etc. I do remember hooshing a large stray cat out of the house once because he'd started to eat their dinners and the owner said to me 'Oh no - that's HOOVER - he's their friend'. Hoover by name, hoover by nature. I didn't read the Irish Times to Hoover only to Rosie and Elliott and I also did some housework. But I think I was primarily company for the cats while the lady of the house was out.

SingToTheSky · 27/09/2021 13:34

Glad you had a nice time willow - much deserved! Nice that DS3 got to have an adventure with big brother too - how are DS2 and GF getting on in the flat now they’ve settled in?

I have had painkillers and hopefully the headache will shift soon.

po3.4
❗️Start sorting clean laundry (and rejig stuff in dryer - does anyone else find the sensors don’t work on bedding so it switches off too early?)
❗️Make sure DS does more work
❗️Try and calm down because while I was writing this post, I had a phone call…

I GOT THE JOB!!! 😱😁

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 27/09/2021 14:01

Squeeeeeeeeeee! Well done Sing!! 🥳🏅🎉🏆🍾

merryhouse · 27/09/2021 14:06

Woo hoo!

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 27/09/2021 14:18

Congratulations, Sing!

halfhope · 27/09/2021 14:59

WOW!!! Sing well done!

Famousfrays · 27/09/2021 15:55

DC1 has come back from nursery covered in mud. He goes to a Forrest nursery and I’m sure he’s spent the whole time rolling around in the mud😂. He’s also made me a mud pie with a conker on top, DC2 doesn’t understand that you can’t actually eat it. I’m having a nightmare trying to find petrol and we live quite rural so if we need anything desperately we’ll have to walk.

Congratulations up I have sisters and they’re my best friends😊

hope I might try reading to my cat and see whether she likes it

honey hope your son feels better soon! There’s loads of bugs going around at the minute apparently

willow I used to love bring me the horizon back when I was a teenager. I’m glad the concert was good☺️.

Well done sing!🎉🎉🎉

SingToTheSky · 27/09/2021 16:16

Thanks everyone 😍 really thought I’d done badly in the interview so can’t believe it. Starting in the next few weeks hopefully but it’s quite gradual with shadowing colleagues etc. Virtually all online since covid.

Feeling a bit away with the fairies TBH, it seems even good news can send me into a tizz of useless nervous energy 🤣 I’m now on my own with Cagletini while the older two have clubs, so I’m just going to try and chill for a bit. Reading probably.

TheHoneyBadger · 27/09/2021 17:46

Congratulations Sing! Well done you.

I'm slumped in the naughty corner, done in. Last minute disclosure at school meant I was running round doing safeguarding stuff and haven't been home long. I didn't start a stew this morning and cooking seems like a mammoth task now. Sorely tempted to order takeaway.

YupIHave · 27/09/2021 18:04

Yay @ sing congratulationsThanks

honey a day of teaching and then disclosure is mentally, emotionally and physically tiring. Brewor Winedepending on what you need.

Forest nursery sounds fab until washing the clothes famous

To do:
LoL
Dinner (last night's leftovers for me and usual beige food for DS
Washing up

Ta-da
Survived work
Done some of evening routine already inc bath for DS

HillsBesideTheSea · 27/09/2021 19:44

The petrol situation is an arse. I have had to cancel my respite trip. AGAIN. I am at breaking point.

Right now the people are giving me a wide berth because apparently i have a bad attitude. No fucking kidding.
Apparently it is worse for them than me the trip has been cancelled
Apparently I am unreasonable because they decided to mess up the meal plan and they didn't appreciate it when they were told if they wanted something different to cook it their god damn selves cos i wasn't

So yeah i am in time out.
So i think i might do some crafting and sulks grumpily in the corner.

I might need to have a bad attitude more often Hmm

HillsBesideTheSea · 27/09/2021 19:48

Congratulations Sing!

GoingGoingGoth · 27/09/2021 20:18

I have been cleaning but was out at work the last 2 weeks and posting/keeping up with the thread was just beyond me.

However... Congratulations Sing that’s great news

Redsquirrel5 · 27/09/2021 20:20

Sing 😁Congratulations, fantastic news!😃

That good baby for sleeping a bit longer. Great lists.

Willow glad you were able to get out. Shame about the driving. I see there is a whole 1 hour devoted to petrol crisis. We have nearly half a tank. I used to always keep the car nearly topped up. DH is always I will get more when it was on red. I was not impressed when he ran out twice when I was going out with him. I remember thinking if he did it again I would stop going out with him.

Hope That is a lovely story. Before I resigned I was thinking about house/animal sitting but people seem to do it for free and I could do with a bit of income. It is one way of seeing Britain but you would need money for transport to and from.

Hills Hope the people are now behaving. I still think thank goodness when it is cold and sometimes wet that I am not standing by the gate on duty. If you were up the top it wasn’t so bad as you could walk around but I was mostly by the gate watching no one Escaped.

Honey hope you have your feet up now.

Famous love Forest School I only had a day at it but would have loved to have continued but one of the teachers had trained so no chance for me. He left before me but it was in such chaos it wasn’t worth asking.

Yup we love leftovers. I made the mince bit of Shepherd’s Pie last night while cooking small Chicken Breast roasted and veg. DH has taken over an hour to finish it🤷🏼‍♀️

GoingGoingGoth · 27/09/2021 20:21

Sorry to hear your trip was cancelled Hills

I’m hoping the madness calms down soon as we’re meant to be travelling down to see my parents mid October and it will be my first visit in 2 years.

Dancingtomusic · 27/09/2021 20:36

Sing- 🎉🎉🎉🎉Congratulations!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎆🎆🎆🎆thats wonderful you have got the job! Amazing!!!

Goth- i agree, i hope it calms down. Fuel light came on friday. I used the car in a emergency today as my kids got soaked in a rain down pour that came out of no where. I hv 11 miles of petrol thats all so really cant use the car until it calms down.

StillUpholding · 27/09/2021 21:19

Ah that’s amazing Sing, well done! I’m very excited for you!

So sorry they trip is cancelled Hills Flowers. Any chance of rearranging for the near future? It would be great if you can do October, and by all means take over whenever suits you. I must admit I get a bit stressy when it’s time to start a new thread in case I miss the boat.

Welcome back Goth 👋

I’m still on half a tank of fuel thankfully which will do me at least another couple of commutes. Hoping it blows over by the end of the week. Hope you get some fuel soon Dancing!

I’m close to my sisters too Famous, and glad DD will get that (assuming they get on!)

House sitting in a posh pad sounds ideal Fiddle, enjoy it.

Well done on surviving work Yup, and you too Honey. That’s the the only thing on my ta da list today.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 27/09/2021 21:37

Oof. Today has been long. Sorry for people suffering in petrol crisis, I have done all the driving now apart from Wednesday tennis, I think, so we should be good for a couple of weeks if it continues. However, DS2 may need to come and claim his bike if he can't get any petrol and I don't know what my brother is going to do (commutes to wrong bit of London, 40 miles each way, daily).

Famous pleased to see another metaller on the thread!

Hills so sorry about your trip. Everyone else will just have to shift for themselves and live with any resulting attitude, everyone needs a break and you do particularly.

Honey can you just do fruit and cheese for tea, as better than takeaway?

Goth, Dancing hope you can both get some petrol soon and trips are not put off.

Red thanks for good wishes! Hope DS1 enjoyed his soup and is feeling better.

Yup hooray for beige food. DS3 is the same.

Hope I trust you have not vanished under a huge pile of tax calculations. I know you can't have pets because of allergies, have you tried reading to houseplants?

🍒👋 to merryhouse, foxes, zoo, ED, Up, fiddle, That, Hazel and anyone else I missed.

Ta da:
❤️ Collected DD, made her lunch, ran her into school. She went in so happily, for the first time in years.
🧡 Fed me, DH and DS3.
💛 Hung first LOL out, stripped our bed and put second LOL on
💚 Ran DW, did hand washing up, wiped kitchen
💙 Sat down!
❤️ Took two phone calls
🧡 Assisted with Prime Factor maths homework
💛 Mopped up DD who returned from school in tears because a deputy head shouted at her for basically being autistic (emailing a question instead of asking in person). DD was absolutely in the right and is now saying she'll not go to tomorrow's elective class of hers, and I want to throttle the bloody woman.
💚 Hung out LOL2
💙 Made dinner, emptied DW, reloaded, wiped kitchen
❤️ Remade our bed
🧡 Had hot bath

DH is upset that I did All The Things, but he was on the phone til 6.45, DD was in school or decompressing and DS3 was doing online lessons or homework. Who else was going to do them?

Oh, and he has decided we need to swap the big diesel car we own outright for a leased electric Polestar. Apparently this has been in the wind for some time without my knowledge, but I found out this morning when he said "I tried to register to do it but the website was broken". I have currently nixed the idea until I have time to think it through, you don't bugger about with car leases.

I do not need this right now. 🤬

HillsBesideTheSea · 27/09/2021 21:40

Right you lot, I may have set up the new thread. It might be here

but y'all going to to be good and fill this one up after the obligatory place marking right?!

Grin Grin

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 27/09/2021 21:47

Totally, Hills. Absolutely. No question.

SingToTheSky · 27/09/2021 21:55

Eek, way to take huge decisions without consulting your WIFE MrWillow! FFS.

So sorry about the cancelled trip hills that sucks :(

Nice to see you goth!

Thank you all so much for the lovely comments. 💐💖 I’m still not quite believing it and will probably be on edge until I’ve signed the contract!

Having a nice evening eating Nando’s (my choice in celebration) and finally catching up on Strictly. Cagletini fell asleep midway through eating chicken.

DH mentioned the word breadwinner earlier and DS said “what? Mum’s a breadbin?”

I mean I do like carbs but that’s a bit harsh… 🤔

Busy day tomorrow - taking DS for his first chemistry lesson, then I have a zoom meeting with my volunteer group, then a zoom lesson, and then a piano lesson! DH has got some stuff to sort before tomorrow as he’s been helping set up an exhibition at the local museum.

Redsquirrel5 · 28/09/2021 01:13

Hills sorry about trip.Would it be possible to go somewhere else by train or bus for a few days or plan one after your job finishes. Thank you for the new thread..

Sing 🤣DS

Goth good to hear from you. Hope it calms down and you get your trip.

In bed and looking at the cleared space😃will try to find a new home for a few things but at present in a neat fabric box with a lid. I can see all of the mat. This has been achieved by chipping away slowly. I have decluttered some paperwork and clothes. Some things need new homes. I hope to get it all sorted by October and then keep it that way.
Coughing a lot, slept for 2 hours this afternoon. I am not happy about this. Going to have to do a LFT aren’t I?
