Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

SingToTheSky · 31/07/2021 23:04

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

Oh wow this thread moves fast!. Thank you for the welcomes guys you all seem very sweet.

ED I love your username 😁. Glad to hear you got to declutter your hall.

sing I haven’t seen that thread, I’ll have to keep an eye out for it!.

zoo sorry about the cat! That sounds disgusting, I don’t think I could’ve handled it as well as you did🤢

red your garden sounds wonderful! I agree that you need to raise your sons right, I’m expecting DC2 in November and if it’s a boy I will definitely be teaching him the same as I teach DD.

dancing sorry to hear about your DH. You sound really strong though🥰

mc he’s been working on it for a while, he’s constantly making things, he’s currently building a cot for bump. I’m lucky really as I’m awful at things like that😂

Wow that I’d have loved to have more DC but I think we will be stopping at 2. How do you find a teenager and a newborn?

Wow hills how have you managed to do all that!?

I’m glad I’ve hopped on at a time you’re all doing intros it’s made it a lot easier to remember you all. If it helps I just have the one DD at the minute, she’s 1 and we’re expecting DC2 in November🥰

floating that's a really long list!

Sing you're already almost half way to getting your scary list done. Hopefully it's looking less scary and more achievable now.

I have 2 DC. DD is 17 and DS is 11, almost 12 (next month). DD did pass her written driving test, she has her practical test in 2 weeks. She's a good driver so I'm not worried about her passing.

We spent the afternoon in the arcade, I was killing it on the race car machine!
I have eaten so bad the last few days weeks that my stomach isn't liking me right now. I just had a couple handfuls of cherries for dinner to help things move along. Sorry for TMI. We are going to the theme park tomorrow so hopefully I'll be feeling better, it's a 3 hour drive away from us.

DH is already in a pissed off mood, stressing over things that haven't even happened yet (like leaving in the morning) 🙄 so this'll be fun.

Right, best be off, I need to make our bed from washing the sheets earlier & take a shower. DDs friends will be here soon, well hopefully sooner rather than later.

🍒👋 to everyone. I'll check in tomorrow on the way.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/08/2021 07:24

Morning all. Another less than 5 hours sleep night - don't know what's going on with that but I wish it would stop. I took sleeping tablet and melatonin last night and even that didn't help.

I have made coffee, taken out all hte recycling and rubbish, walked the dog and dealt with some emails.

Main mission for today is to make the living room and entrance presentable for my dad to come in to take the dog out for a walk tomorrow and to at least clear downstairs windows and front door and surrounds of cobwebs (outside not in - spiders seem to love the front of my house). Plus get things ready for seaside tomorrow - towels, swimwear, cooler bag etc. Shopping is coming this afternoon.

I also need to communicate with the university I'm thinking of starting my MSc with in September and work out if they really need a CV or if a list of communications and work experience would do. Teaching jobs don't use CVs just application forms so I don't have an up to date one. Oh and communicate with the insurance people about the blumming broken tree.

All of this easily achievable to normal people but I'm Miss Go Slow with added procrastination issues at the minute and do a little bit, get overwhelmed then read or MN for ages.

MrsTidyHouse · 03/08/2021 07:28

Today's to-dos

LoL
Move DS's things off tops of cupboards into said cupboards.

Make list of essential phone calls.
Do another round of hunting down all paperwork. Put it in office.

Text three out of four DCs, all in their thirties, to get their mail redirected to their own addresses. Or to give ppl their email.
Keep tidying and sorting while watching Olympics.

Arrange time for school clothes to go to donation centre.

Try not to think about LG going to secondary in two weeks.

Make ta-da list to keep self motivated.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/08/2021 08:00

Have you got a local gifting and giving facebook page MrsT - I find that's easiest way to pass on old uniform, kids clothes etc as they come collect.

SingToTheSky · 03/08/2021 08:10

Morning you lovely bunch 🥰

po3.1
❗️Dressed, meds and breakfast
❗️Sand last bits of filler (DH will have to do the bits above the window though)
❗️Look for tutoring notebook and unit 4/5 book, no idea where either are!

🏋🏻🏋🏻🏋🏻🏋🏻🏋🏻

It’s Tuesday! (I feel I actually need the reminders as with no nursery or school I haven’t the foggiest what day it is)

FLIGHTPLAN

Here are the missions. Today’s is a hotspot firefighting session in zone 1.

Today’s focus is planning - get your diaries/calendars out, meal plan etc.

If anyone is following the baby steps I believe today’s is to shine your sink and get dressed to shoes (metaphorically… many of us do not do indoor shoes! I’m dressed now but in bare feet. Almost wrote bear feet, they aren’t quite that hairy though. 🐻🧸🐾)

Morning all!
I'll jump on the introduction wagon 😬 I've got one DS who is 9 months old.
Floating how are you finding pregnancy so far? Great list!
Hazel well done to your DD passing her theary test🎉🎊 she must be delighted!
Zoo ay, I hope your furry overlord is better. Burst abscess sounds a little grim.
Sing sounds like you are making a great progress with the bathroom 😊

YesTaDas:
💥LOL
💥Found the kitchen, rotated DW
💥Helped DH to tidy up his office. It was a proper Armageddon. I stopped cleaning in there over a year ago, and he hasn't touched it since.. 😬

I should probably get up now. Coffee time.

Mc3209 · 03/08/2021 08:33

Theary? I mean theory.

SingToTheSky · 03/08/2021 08:39

Excellent news hazel well done DD!

Aww tidy it’s such a big move going to secondary bless her.

Floating fabulous list and I love the sloths 🦥😁

Hormone linked insomnia honey? I know i definitely get cycle linked insomnia.

I crashed out hard this morning and was contently sleeping through my alarm because it is a tuesday (and my day off) until i realised the alarm was because i need to move my car for the roofer to come fix the roof.

Just finding clothes and drinking coffee...

Also decided as it it 10ws til room layout needed to not be my normal layout, it is going back to normal layout for that duration. So I am moving my bedroom furniture about again. Hard work but i am looking forwards to that!

And it is going to make the next phase of decluttering and deep cleaning easier as the contents of my bookcase will be on my bookcase and not in the lounge!

Redsquirrel5 · 03/08/2021 09:34

I forgot that I cleaned the basin and loo yesterday.

A friend from work contacted me so going for coffee this morning and I thought I would pick up some wraps from M&S as last time we chatted for ages. She has left too. There is another meet up on Thursday with some others.

Pof3 for me this morning

Clear the table in hall.
Polish table.
Do inside of door.

I also need to water the 🍅 as they are very thirsty so I find I am watering them twice a day at present.

Redsquirrel5 · 03/08/2021 09:39

DH has just brought me a mug of tea. Not a bad old stick sometimes.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/08/2021 10:04

Oh yes I cleaned the toilet too - I never think to list that so I guess it is one of my auto habits (thank goodness)

MrsTidyHouse · 03/08/2021 10:50

Stopped for a break to watch some olympics and wait for WM to come in to land.

Drove to DS's yesterday to give him his DVDs, CDs, gamer magazines, excess toiletries and a huge bag of pens and pencils. This has given me three empty drawers and a couple of shelves. I moved some stuff this morning off the top of his cupboard to inside it. And then brought down a few more gamer magazines and cd-rom games to take to DS. Kept simcity for myself and LOs :-))

Next is the box of cables and bits and pieces. Mostly taking photos to email to DS, asking what is this and would I ever need it?

I've also written some instructions to myself on masking tape and stuck them on cupboard and bedroom doors eg LB to try on tees, etc.

WM has landed. Off to put stuff on pulleys, as it is raining here.

SingToTheSky · 03/08/2021 11:03

Bah. Phone call rearranged and I’ve been scrolling my phone since! Best crack on with the rest of my day!

po3.4
❗️Figure out what’s happening with DD1’s cinema trip (friend isolating, it’s all gone a bit wrong)
❗️Bit more of assignment 4
❗️Write up a few tutoring sessions (probably starting with the most recent)

Trip to seaside cancelled as one of friend's step dd's household has tested positive for covid so don't have to panic about anyone coming in the house tomorrow.

To do:
-put on lol
-fold dry lol from yesterday
-Put away another pile of dry laundry
-Email Uni
-Email insurance company and follow up
-get rid of cobwebs around front door and windows outside
-Get out and photograph old bicycle and put it on on local gifting pages

Think that will do for now.

SingToTheSky · 03/08/2021 12:43

Ah that’s a shame about the cancelled meet but I empathise with the relief of therefore not having to tidy 😁😳

Haven’t got on with my paperwork/studying yet, as we have started painting! Woohoo! I’ve just taken over watching Netflix with Cagletini so the older two can do a bit.

OP posts:
YupIHave · 03/08/2021 13:20

Eek! DS has a high temperature 🤒 We've booked a PCR test for him. We're supposed to be travelling down Thursday for the wedding. 😬

SingToTheSky · 03/08/2021 13:50

Oh no yup! :( I hope he’s ok and you get a super fast negative PCR.

Must go and rinse the brushes, and then actually get on with my paperwork. Then I have other tasks to do but I’m trying not to stress over those while I still have a power of three in progress!

OP posts:
Dancingtomusic · 03/08/2021 14:09

In no particularly order
ta da
procrastinate - this is a very important step.
go to run errands in a nearby town (nearby being an hour away) end up even further away in a shopping centre
batch one of meds taken
stood on scales
update Bujo
request help with ironing
move car for roofer
consider what order to move things out and around in bedroom
take 2nd batch meds
pick up food for tea and some grab and go foods for teen
be impressed with the teen dealing with the issue of not enough time to line dry the clothes he wants to wear later (he googled the symbol and tis tumbler dryer safe)
deal with people who are stressed today
Consider life choices over a coffee.

And that is about as far as I have got today. stupidly little compared to the do list and i need to hit the priority list asap after lunch (which i am just eating) and a brew.
