Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

That- i nearly spat out my tea laughing...🤣
Sorry...

'I might start using DTwatface.'

Its brill. 😊

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 02/08/2021 12:52

It could be shortened to DTF? Grin

MrsTidyHouse · 02/08/2021 13:33

Limping back on board after lurking for most of July. Did something to my back the other day, so having to move carefully. Some office and paperwork is in order, alternating with gentle tidying of stuff that has taken up residence in some (very) odd corners.

LOs are away this week, and it's a chance to catch up with basics before school restarts in mid-August.

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/08/2021 13:43

that I want a "I've got a dtf tshirtGrin

Scoutcat had lump on neck under jaw yesterday.thought maybe a lymph node or something?was ok in self etc.today he shook head and D's got wet nose..burst absess...
There's me try catch to wipe as white foul smelling shit on his back,he's licking/spread around.uuurgh.was NASTY.He dodge behind fucking nets/curtains so they'll need disinfect spraying.he got very aggressive as I try clean it so I end up have put him out as he's a big lad and angry he's dangerous tbh.i had got all white stuff off,was still oozing brown so it's not cleaned out.hoping it drains fully whilst he's outside calming down a bit...

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 02/08/2021 14:16

zoo that sounds grim 🤢🤮

Dancingtomusic · 02/08/2021 15:05

Zoo- 🙈 oh no! 🐯

That- 'DTF' made me giggle!

YupIHave · 02/08/2021 15:33

zoo 🤢🤢🤢 totally yucky and slightly fascinating at the same time.

that shame so many DTF around. dancing you feel for the boy having a crap childhood but it's not okay to treat you like that. I think a lot of people need therapy to get over their childhood.

I think I did my first purposeful PO3:

Food shop
Drop off stuff at parents
Pick up clothes from dry cleaners

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/08/2021 15:36

that I could've done without itHmm

Been with dd2 to collect meds(40 min walk away) as blood revealed anaemia and low thyroid...

Was start rain big drops, not heavy which was a relief on way back as so still and humid it's horrid out

TheHoneyBadger · 02/08/2021 15:45

If you had a dog he would have cleared it up for you Envy (not envy)

Redsquirrel5 · 02/08/2021 16:41

Yuk. You have some trouble with the Dcats Zoo My sister has a Mof B outfit she hasn’t worn by the looks of photos( she described it when I was up there, wish I had asked to see it now. There is a bridal gown too) don’t know why DN didn’t put deposit and leave at shop. I didn’t ask to see it either thing I would see her in it at the wedding🙄
Bridal gown Cancer Research have some that they sell second hand but some are new too worth a look.

That 🤣 love his new title.

Honey I have four DS1,2,3 and DD all grown up. I am the oldest fledgling in age not time on here. I have been here just before Cagletini was born. Lurked for a while. Still not got tidy house but some areas are good the rest are not. It is tricky remembering everyone and the family logistics.

I have read TOMM but think it is daft not to get washing done and out when lovely, sunny weather. You can iron ( or not) and put away anytime.

Ta Das
One LOL done last night hung out.
LoL
LOL

BF brought grand daughter down for a couple of hours. To see the trains but everyone was low flat bed ones which you can’t see from our house. BF was sick of waiting at bridge. DGD missed seeing the only one we could see by looking the wrong way. I am going to check on the steam train times and send details to DBF so we can sit out ready. If we went down the field we could re-enact Railway Children waving🤣

Watching Olympics again so not getting much done. I have come upstairs to motivate putting clothes away and tidy more crap in boudoir.

HazelNuttyElf · 02/08/2021 17:11

that I love DTF! I think it should stick for sure. Sorry he is being a Twat Face though.
zoo 🤢🤮 I hope scout cat is better soon (& calmed down)
yup that looks like a good PO3 to me
Red I haven't looked into TOMM, but from what I've heard about it on here, it may work for some to do a big clean up, but others could get overwhelmed. Also, I'm with you on the 1 load at a time thing. It would take 3 times as long for me to get stuff washed. DC do 1 LOL a day, but on my days off I do sheets, towels, blankets etc. I would never catch up.

Ta Das already (just after 10am here):
🐞 Made DH breakfast for the week
🐞 Soaked my air plant
🐞 Had 2 cups of coffee
🐞 Got dressed, makeup on, hair done

DH got the Roomba vacuuming the main level
DH & DS are currently mowing the grass, which involves picking up any poop from the dog, as well as taking down the volleyball net (which is a pain in the ass to put up)

I'm about to start on laundry, DD has her written driving test today and this afternoon we plan on going to the local arcade.
DD will have 2 friends stay the night tonight and tomorrow is a very early start - we're going to a theme park (it's what DD asked for for her birthday back in March, but summer is the time to go). I booked the hotel rooms yesterday, on our way home from riding our four wheelers.

Gotta go, DS is about to catch me doing nothing!

HazelNuttyElf · 02/08/2021 17:55

More ta das:
🌺 Rotated DW
🌺 Hand washed dishes
🌺 Wiped down countertops
🌺 Sheets in wm
🌺 Wiped microwave

DD is working on cleaning out her hamsters cage
DH & DS are still mowing, but almost done

I think I need to shine my sink, it's looking a little dull

SingToTheSky · 02/08/2021 17:55

:o at DTF.

Everything seems to be taking an absolute age today. I have at least got some stuff from my priority list done though.

po3.4
❗️Food for me and Cagletini (and drink some water!)
❗️Email MH liaison person re DS/CAMHS
❗️Find some photos of me, DS and DD1

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 02/08/2021 19:06

Phew have done some small tasks I was anxious about thanks to that power of three. Also did a bit of extra polyfiller while Cagletini was on the loo 🤣 as DH painted the ceiling today, so we have time for the wall filling to dry before tomorrow.

Going to read for a bit now and try not to think about the rest of my list!

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/08/2021 19:34

ta da
survive work
deal with people on return
long discussions as to the next phase of work (and phase after)
cook tea
clean main bathroom bath to within 1 inch of life
clean main bathroom toilet
speak to teen about plans for tomo
swear about loss of lie in tomo
write long to do list for tomo
swear as walk into door cos tired
Move furniture back to where it was this morning when i woke up
double check car is locked

I am about to have a quick bath before i curl up for the night.

not on anything other then strange people in the house deadline this morning. Surprisingly motivating.

That loving the new nick name for Dtwat (assuming twas that, cos tired brain is done)

TheHoneyBadger · 02/08/2021 20:42

Another mini tada list:

-Managed to worm cat and dog (not an easy task - they are stubborn tablet resisters)
-Managed to get ds to empty dishwasher and put dirty dishes in without as much moaning as yesterday
-Folded dry laundry, hung up wet laundry
-Booked a hotel and train tickets for mn teachers meet up
-Got booked for more child/dog sitting (glad they were happy with me and want to use me regularly - every little bit helps financially) and remembered to write in diary

My dad is coming to walk the dog on Wednesday whilst we go to the seaside with my friend so I REALLY do have to tidy and clean the entry way and living room (not detailed perfection just not die of mortification level) tomorrow.

Well done on the DIY and multi tasking Sing

I'm about to curl up with the Cuckoo's Calling. Have decided to start the Strike Books again - it's been a long while since I read the first few and I have two lined up ready to go.

My morning routine usually is LOL and DW rotation. Now I have ds on dw rotation duty (so long as I keep up forcing it) I guess I should add something new in - putting away clean washing seems like my next habit to crack so I'll try for that.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 02/08/2021 21:12

Right. What do we think is the better option for getting washing dry overnight.....

A) airer in utility room with extractor fan on

B) airer in a bedroom with dehumidifier on

foxessocks · 02/08/2021 21:18

Evening! August?! Did I miss all of July 😳😂

SingToTheSky · 02/08/2021 21:43

Well done honey!
I’d go with the dehumidifier I think that
:o Hey foxes

Just switched the computer on again, DD1 has asked for a blank timetable so she can write in what subjects to study 🤔 we shall see how that goes. She’s asked to do some art tonight anyway (that won’t be timetabled, we’ve agreed to just practice techniques at night to help wind down for bed)

po3.5
❗️Print blank planner for the rest of the summer holidays
❗️Take evening BP reading
❗️Print more maths/English stuff for DS

OP posts:
Dancingtomusic · 02/08/2021 22:13

Sing- love the idea of doing art techniques to help wind down for bed. I might try this with dd.

Foxes- hello! 👋

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 02/08/2021 22:22

Welcome to August foxes

Sing i think you might be right with the dehumidifier however i have set up in the utility as its nearer the washer Blush

ExtremelyDisorganised · 02/08/2021 22:35

Evening all, I think some of you may have mistaken me for someone who had got a lot done earlier, sadly it wasn't me. Despatched DCs on paper round, went to work, Aldi on the way home, ping meals, flop on sofa has been the sum total of my achievement today.

Zoo - eww to cat abscess, one of ours did the same last year, thankfully I was at work and it was DH's day off, he did ring me to describe it all in great detail. It healed with no further intervention, she kept it clean herself.

Honey - I'm on my first reading of the Strike books, I'm halfway through Lethal White and loving them.

That - I'd say dehumidifier too, but extractor probably pretty good alternative.

Foxes and Tidy - welcome back!

Floating - welcome to the thread.

Red - we have a steam railway nearby, I like hearing the toot and chug of them coming along, very nostalgic.

Hazel -- fingers crossed for DD and the test.

While we're on intros, I have DS (17) and DD (15) and have been on the thread for quite a long time but my house still isn't fully under control. It's a lot better than it used to be though. I'd never keep up by the TOMM thing for laundry either, I tend to pile through it at the weekend with a couple of loads during the week (DCs are supposed to do this) but its all gone to pot with kitchen refit at the moment anyway.

Redsquirrel5 · 02/08/2021 23:15

Sing I will try and find some work I did at Felting. I didn’t really want to do it but after a while when we had to draw our own I got into it and found it relaxing. I will put a photo on tomorrow.

MrsTidy yes it is August. In the naughty corner for you! Hope you have been ok.

I got another LOL done and put away the clothes I had taken but not worn.
Put some things I want to keep back in the suitcase to go up the loft. It got rid of it so I have one less basket of stuff.
Boudoir is looking better so plan to sort a box/ basket a day.
Chip, chip, chip.
Night.

merryhouse · 02/08/2021 23:29

I'm still not convinced I finished February.

That's February, 2018, by the way...

SingToTheSky · 02/08/2021 23:53

🤣 Merry

ta da
🌸made BP table and took first reading
🌼sorted printer connection to PC (I think)
🌸printing/laminating etc
🌼read job spec and made lots of notes on it
🌸signed off three completed assignments
🌼shower
🌸laundry away
🌼walked to English lesson, taught and walked home
🌸put some stuff in the cupboard/bedroom drawers
🌼lesson planning for new pupils
🌸checked puzzle for completeness ready to sell
🌼mega anti procrastination of a very small task I was anxious about for no reason (finding photos for a testimonial and sending them)
🌸sent an email (also anti procrastinating TBH)
🌼more home ed resource printing (plus some for pupils)
🌸made blank timetable for DD1
🌼second BP reading

Didn’t do the art though. DD1 grumpy and hyperfocused on annoying (IMHO) stuff. Should really go to bed.

6/15 of my scary list for the week done though and started a couple of others so that’s quite good I think :)
