Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

Anyway. Thank you all for the kindness and encouragement re my scary list! It does seem less scary when I think of it in power of three terms. There is plenty of other stuff I need to do as well (general life/work stuff) but as long as I put the priority stuff in there too I’ll manage. (How often can I say stuff in one sentence?!)

Yup as zoo said I have 3 - the Caglets are DD1 (just turned 14) and DS (almost 12, home educated), they’re both autistic. I had been on the threads a long time when I was pregnant with DD2, and Cagletini became her thread nickname before she was even born :o I also have 3 adult stepchildren. :)

Right well I’ve stuck the dryer back on and had my meds. And looked in on DS who proudly showed me his room, he’s worked very hard tidying and sorting his Lego! 🥰

Best crack on though

po3.1

❗️Print maths resource (not needed till the weekend but may as well laminate this morning along with the other bits)

I'm confused - do you not live with your husband then Zoo?

Just coffee, dog walk and animal feeding this morning so far. Oh and I sorted it so that only shoes that really need to be there are in the entrance way on the shelves for them.

Was going to empty the dw then thought nope that can be ds's job. If I can batter than habit and bringing the plates and rubbish out of his room consistently (even if it's a battle every time) that's a start.

Need to do laundry but put off by the TOMM rule - it's a great idea but quite demotivating and the idea of starting by blitzing to perfection sounds odd to me - it's like expecting you to be at the destination before starting the journey? Mind you I'm barely on the journey. DW and LOL are the only real habits I've managed to engrain.

po3... hmmm

LOL
Worming tablets to animals
Put away more wardrobe door piles and clean laundry

Probably more scrolling and more coffee first though. I'm not getting enough sleep, not being able to get back to sleep but then feeling really tired at the minute.

Mc3209 · 02/08/2021 08:38

Morning all!
Floating your DH built a piano? 😲 Wow. He has some skills!
Dancing it was Up planning a patio, but you are more than welcome to use mine 🙂 Sending 💐
Yup Fledgeling with 6 babas is That.

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/08/2021 08:43

Tomm is bonkers imho.
Just do what works for you. there is no compulsion to follow tomm, tbh most of us barely follow flylady. it is guidelines not law. of course it does work better if you follow it properly by shhhh

Can i go back to bed yet?

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 02/08/2021 09:02

Catching up ....

New pupils sound positive sing!

Willow DS5 is nearing 5 weeks now but tbh the smallest 4 dc are relatively early risers and any of them can be up at 6am!

Red that is very cheeky re the cheque!

Note: if you don’t train your sons to do jobs and learn to cook they will end up like Dancing’s Not so D, H!

This is exactly why mine do shit around the house. No way am i being responsible for some poor woman (or man) ending up with a man child for a partner!

Dancing is your DBro available for hire? I'm sorry your DH is so useless, mine has been playing up this weekend. If we dig an extra deep hole they may fit under the same patio? Btw i bloody love how strong and determined you sound!

Zoo sorry things are still tricky with lilzoo, wedding is near now! What on earth does dp think he is playing at suggesting lilzoo go to him! Although it may make her realise how good she has it with you!

Welcome floating

Hills hope you enjoyed the nap! Big list for today! I never plan po3 in advance just as i go along

Up two naps! I am Envy

ED glad you got your broadband sorted, we have a long narrow hall and it very quickly becomes overrun with bags coats shoes etc

Yup it is me with 6 DC. They are 13, 12, 8, 4, 1 and just over a month old

Honeyhusband?(hahahaha) I'm an idiot, but not a complete one.never married him.very long story, too long for here, but needless to say we've never lived tog.his patents helped hide how bad his MH was(he knew mine was a bit ropey as we met when he was my care in the community!)many months after he was no longer in this role we started chat and here we are 3kids now in teens and 18 years of short periods all is well and long ones if frustrated wtf am I doing?!I've pretty much detached now.ds gets very distressed at idea of us not being together.ive no energy left to be bothered looking anyone else and my hands are full with zoolets needs at mo.i seriously CBA start again and have long since accepted he's never going to be my prince.i attract frogs.end of🤣

Whoever asked about the dress.nope, still not sorted.dd1 and I are still searching for the one.i cannot afford ridiculous amount and since bojo opened everything up clearly everyone and her auntie are going out and need nice bloody dresses!!
Everyone here is so anxious about it all(lots of people none of whom we know, distance to venue means relying on bloke, none of us confident eating in public etc)it's very sad to say it but if we could just offer congrats and not go I wouldn't think twice about that option which then makes me feel even more crap about everythingSad

Tada

TheHoneyBadger · 02/08/2021 10:42

Bloody hell Hills - you're like a whirlwind. I've done nothing but make more coffee and do my online grocery order - oh and I filled out a form to speak to a doctor about my blood test results and got a call back.

Zoo I got confused when you called him DH.

I've put away a few more clothes but slug-like progress and I still need to put on a lol.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/08/2021 10:43

ps. Ds was great when younger, liked washing up, cleaning kitchen cupboard doors even hoovering. Teens have produced a big change. I just need to keep forcing and following through rather than waiting for my helpful little boy to reappear.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 02/08/2021 10:47

I think consistency is a big thing honey so yes force and follow through. E.g. i know if i let dc1 off doing a certain thing because he moans then he will continue to moan in the hope i let him off again

Dancingtomusic · 02/08/2021 10:59

I need to get my kids to do little jobs.

Whoops sorry mc - lets dig a big hole! 🤣
Up- thank you for the patio!
Hills- what the f have you taken, i want some.
That- bloody hell you have done loads too!
singglad your printer working
honey- good idea about your ds and the dishwasher.
zoo- i might borrow/create a new term for my 'd'h. I might start referring to him as dfrog. (As i also manage to attract a frog. )

YupIHave · 02/08/2021 11:08

Thanks everyone for letting me know how many DC they have. I get terribly confused so will probably need reminding again. Sorry in advance 😊 I remember when cagletini was about to be born/was a newborn because I used to follow the thread then.

I am impressed with hill's ta-das. Go get them at work. zoo am always in awe of how much you do and under stressful circumstances too. I only got my outfit(s) for wedding 2 weeks prior to events (unfortunately it is plural). Was at event weekend just gone.

I find being away from home quite stressful with DS only eating particular foods and with his sensory issues around too much noise, too many people, uncomfortable clothes, car sickness, his hangryness etc. On the whole he coped remarkably well but thats because I had planned, planned, planned. Unfortunately, it all got too much for him at one point because we arrived early at the event and it started very late. Cue much unhappiness from most of above list. Poor boy. Felt so bad for him but there was nothing I could do. He did turn it around though so I was very pleased. He's such a mild mannered, happy boy on the whole. He was very happy because he got to bed share with me and he rode shotgun on the way back and chewed my ear off for over 3 hours as I drove. He's very funny and I enjoyed it too.

We are doing it all over again this weekend for the main event. This time DP is going to be there. (Last time he dropped us there and took train home!)

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 02/08/2021 11:09

I might start using DTwatface

YupIHave · 02/08/2021 11:21

Sorry for the essay.

honey** my DS was the same when younger, although didn't do as much as yours. DS has to get ready for the day, bring his plates into the kitchen, open the curtains, get his own breakfast. Those are his jobs. I have to tell him to do this otherwise it doesn't get done. Everything else is ad hoc. He's slowly (very slowly) learning skills on looking after himself and a home.

So ED inspired me:

Ta-das:

Breakfast in bed (ty DP)
Breakfast dishes soaking
Bed made
Wash on
Emptied car
Emptied suitcase, snack bag, food basket and toiletries, and sort and put away
Decluttered porch cupboard and now have a bin bag full of stuff for charity
Spent ages (DP helped) looking for outfit for wedding that I had put away before weekend away but couldn't remember where. DP found it in DS cupboard.Confused

YupIHave · 02/08/2021 11:22

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE

I might start using DTwatface

Oh dear. What's happened? ☹️

SingToTheSky · 02/08/2021 11:46

Didn’t manage to finish either the laundry (some still in dryer) or the cutting out of laminated things (still got what I need for today though) as it all took a bit longer than I thought and I had to have a shower and get ready, especially so I could leave earlier and not be pathetically out of breath when I arrive 😳 so I’m now walking at a nice leisurely pace.

Pleased I’ve got a fair bit done though. I did, however, completely forget to eat breakfast 😳 grabbed a biscuit to eat before I arrive and will have lunch after anyway.

Determined to finish what I started, so:

po3.3
❗️English lesson and home via Tesco
❗️Put rest of laundry away
❗️Finish cutting out/filing of laminated stuff and tidy it all up

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 02/08/2021 11:46
