Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

Caught up!

Hope you had a lovely day Zoo .

I think your SILs will be very impressed Sing, you’ve achieved so much recently. A shame about the course but with the option of the February course it doesn’t sound like the end of the world.

Oooh new job Mog, exciting!

You’ve made loads of progress too Honey, and I’m glad you’ve managed to keep the chair.

I had a full day out with friends yesterday, the first time we’ve all met up since pre-Covid. They were all on the cocktails and I was worried it would get a bit hard going once they became merry, but I had some very nice mocktails and it was so lovely to see them that I really enjoyed the day. DH was out with DD all day too so the house isn’t too bad. She then had a sleepover at my DM’s (isn’t due back til a bit later - trying to enjoy the peace but I miss her). DH went out and I suspect is feeling a little ropey as he hasn’t surface yet. I didn’t sleep well at all so it’ll be a slow day in the Up house I suspect.

Morning all!

Up glad you had a lovely day out! Hope MrUp surfaces and is not too hungover / grumpy.

Honey even nearing the end of the tunnel of CHAOS is an amazing achievement, remember how down you were when you joined? You've done a huge amount. Sorry, can't help with the question of isolation and being a teacher.

New job, Mog? Good luck, it is doing the same sort of thing?

Sing I'm sure the SILs will both notice and be impressed by the progress you've made. Hope you have a lovely day.

I know there were more personals, but they've fallen out of my head and I can't scroll this morning.

DH did loads of gardening yesterday and we can now see out of the living room window, instead of being hemmed in by a huge forsythia.

Interesting developments with DD after Friday's disaster when her "friend" was 90 minutes late to meet her: DS1's GF, whom DD admires enormously, has bluntly said "this won't do, you can't let people treat you like that, you need better friends" and DD has accepted it as true and is thinking about it. Things may be moving in the right direction at last.

Today, DS2 is coming to watch the Grand Prix with DH while his GF visits her GPs and then they are having dinner with us. I am quite looking forward to six around the table again (particularly since I'm let off cooking duties 😁).

I am continuing to convalesce by doing little bits of stuff, mostly what I feel like and nothing particularly useful! Yesterday I did manage to get into the garden for 15 minutes, at least until it rained on me!

Today, I need to face a stationery / diary issue. For at least a decade, I've been running a diary / bullet journal set up that has allowed me to track six people, WillowHound, the house, my business and some things for Mum. Suddenly, with the Big Willow Boys moved out and DD back at actual school, I need much less and I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️ zoo hope it was magical day

halfhope · 29/08/2021 10:38

willow well done to ds1 gf for being such a brick for DD. Hope dd moves in the right direction.

As for diary issues, is it possible other things will pop onto your agenda now that elderwillowboys™ have left. Nature abhors a vacuum and all that. What is your current lifelist?

HillsBesideTheSea · 29/08/2021 12:54

Morning.

About to brave the garden centre. This I feel might be sheer madness. Hmm

Spent a lovely day walking in the hills. Burnt, sore and achy today but happy of spirit. If the body was willing would happily be out walking again today. The weather is so lovely.

But there is a whole heap of stuff that needs attending to around the house so I guess the focus needs to be on that.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 29/08/2021 13:24

Hope it's quite likely other things will pop up, actually. I don't currently have a lifelist, I've been spinning madly for two years keeping everyone afloat through diagnosis and while the youngest two were educated via home. I've really had very little agency in that time, and it will take me a while to get my head around it.

Hills glad you had a nice day out!

HillsBesideTheSea · 29/08/2021 13:48

Can someone enlighten me as to what a lifelist is? Blush
It is not a term i have ever come across.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 29/08/2021 14:59

I have assumed it's a list of things you want to achieve at or by a given point although I've not come across it before either. Mine usually begins "everyone fed, nobody dead"!

StillUpholding · 29/08/2021 15:16

Willow I’d say the obvious answer to your diary/bullet journal quandary is to Buy Pretty New Stationery. I suspect this is not the solution you were looking for therefore I am no help. As you were.

Actually, your talk of DD and DS1 GF reminded me of when I was doing my GCSEs. My ‘best friend’ of years treated me horribly and I put up with it, until another friend said to me “why on earth do you let her speak to you like that?”. Something clicked in my brain that day and I never looked back. Started spending more time with another group of friends, and they are the lovely ladies I was with yesterday. Perhaps GF’s words might have a similar effect on DD. I really hope so Flowers

Hope the garden centre visit is a success Hills. Right, there are only 15 posts left and I’m worried I will get distracted so I’ll set up the new thread now, but feel free to continue to post here.

SingToTheSky · 29/08/2021 15:53

Thanks up! And FWIW I think your suggestion of pretty stationery is sound advice.

Lovely day so far - I was worried about being peopled out but it’s been just right so far and we got a fair bit of cleaning done in the morning, Caglets willingly joining in too (DS sped through his task list like a demon! 🤣). Nice to have time with cousins and then DSCs came round for a bit to give DS his birthday presents for tomorrow. One was a board game which was good fun (5 Minute Marvel for anyone that way inclined!). The others will be popping back for a bit later, I’m not bothering about doing anything else in between - just relaxing between periods of being social 🤣

I did manage to lesson plan a bit for tutoring though, and have written a list of things to find out when I speak to a tuition centre next month about some science help for DS.

Thanks Up I would love new stationery, but I have an untouched bullet journal to begin, so I had better not 😭.

halfhope · 29/08/2021 17:02

Hills I just invented it - ignore me! Just meant a rough list of stuff that Willow needed to deal in life around the house - Willowhound, business, convalescence, DS3, DD, dh, redecorating

halfhope · 29/08/2021 17:04

currently working on the weekend to make sure I have enough done to be able to take annual leave. Makes no sense either.

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/08/2021 17:07

Want wedding chat here or on new thread?
Willow D's has clearly chosen a keeper given her stellar advice to dd

halfhope · 29/08/2021 17:12

We only have 8 more messages here - makes sense to list in September but I don't know what others feel. I do hope you had a fabulous time zoo. I'm dying to hear about the food and cake! And the dresses.

HazelNuttyElf · 29/08/2021 17:19

mc good luck with applying for a new job. What are you doing to prepare for it?
Impatiently waiting to hear about The Wedding from zoo trying to distract myself and failing miserably - I'm checking both threads, but I think the September one might be the way to go

HillsBesideTheSea · 29/08/2021 17:27

Ah that makes sense hope i wondered if it was like some sort of goals list but tbh my brain is on strike today.
