Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

Oooh, I'm assuming you're enjoying yourself at the wedding zoo I hope it's all going to plan ❤

honey we have always put our dogs in a crate. For a while my boys (who are no longer with us) were able to be out and have access to the whole house, until my chihuahua decided he wanted to cock his leg all down my hallway when he got older. He had an attitude, that we discovered was to do with our black lab struggling to move around. He started behaving again after we put the lab to sleep 😪
My dachshund on the other hand, has to be put in her crate as she gets mad when we leave and pees. She prefers to pee on carpet and since that's what we have now, she gets put in her kennel. She's 8, so not a puppy anymore and knows better 🤦‍♀️

Anyway, here's today's ta das so far:
🌻 2 cups of coffee drank
🌻 Cooked DH breakfast so he's set for the week now
🌻 Meal planned for the week
🌻 Wrote shopping list out
🌻 Rotated DW
🌻 Sorted through fridge
🌻 Emptied the rubbish from the kitchen and took it out to the wheelie bin

To do:
🐝 Get dressed 😱
🐝 Paint the bare wood parts of the shed with primer
🐝 Go to the store to buy exterior paint (2 colours) for the shed
🐝 Paint shed final coats of exterior paint
🐝 Take a shower
🐝 S & S both bathrooms
🐝 Make rolls for dinner tonight (ILs are coming here but their turn to cook)

It's 11am now, so probably should be getting in with my to Dos now. I'll probable plan to go grocery shopping tomorrow as I don't think I'll fit it in today

🍒👋 to everyone, enjoy your Saturday

HazelNuttyElf · 28/08/2021 18:04

Grrr, stupid autocorrect 😑

I checked everything up until the last paragraph 🤦‍♀️

Redsquirrel5 · 28/08/2021 19:17

Chilling on my bed.

Mog I forgot to say - yes I have chickens. I had four rescue hens first and now have three black, banty hens which I got in March 2020 lockdown from someone in the village who had too many hens. We have had a problem with red mites recently. Damn things are so tiny yet bite hard if they get on you.

I better go and start on dinner. I made the decision to have easy tea on Saturday nights. Tempted to send DH for a take away but I have chicken Kiev in the freezer so should do that with some veg. I am hoping there are some sweet potatoes so I can make wedges. We get a veggie box so never know what we are getting. DH unpacks it.

I went out earlier to see a friend from the village talking to him and most of the contents of our stable shed strewn all over the garden.

I NEED WARNING for that type of behaviour. It meant I had to think about stuff and he was annoyed that I wanted the pram pulled out to check it. I had a lovely coach built pram which my sister ruined by putting it in her garage without wiping it all over. I has rust on the chassis and wheels. Body work damaged. I would like to get it renewed.

Better get in that kitchen.

TheHoneyBadger · 28/08/2021 19:22

Yes peeing was an issue when he was younger (now over 2) but touch wood ok lately. Mog may be right about the anxiety though. He was not happy being in the kitchen with a basket and food whilst I worked on lounge. Think for now I’m going to try a bit of both and see if he warms up to the idea but I suspect I’m stuck with the crate.

I’ve actually done loads today. Furniture moved around, crazy amounts of disgusting balls of cat hair and dust removed, rugs vacuumed properly etc and got ds to address the childhood dvds. He decided he didn’t want to part with them because his children should get to watch them so he went through them checking they were in the cases and putting aside ones that could definitely go then bagged up the keepers and put them in the attic. Think it brought back lots of memories for him and he actually enjoyed it.

The lounge is not finished but massive progress and I think I may actually be out of CHAOS before I go back to work. Slightly stunned.

Thanks ladies 🙏

SingToTheSky · 28/08/2021 19:54

That’s awesome honey well done for working hard to get out of chaos!

Got timings partly sorted for tomorrow. At least we know we have a while to get stuff sorted before people arrive, but still want to get plenty done today. DH doesn’t get back till gone 8 tonight so just need to crack on with the Room Rescue in the living room, with the Caglets helping.

I have just got done with painting the primer on the trim of the shed. I will go get paint here in the minute so I can finish it. I am thinking that I'll need to take a break now though, I have to start on the rolls soon and have lunch. The shed is taking me longer than I expected, so may have to finish it tomorrow.

HazelNuttyElf · 28/08/2021 20:03

honey you have been very busy and achieved a lot. I remember that it wasn't that long ago, you had no motivation and couldn't see an end in sight. This is great progress! I think I may have missed it - did you get rid of your armchair yet?

TheHoneyBadger · 28/08/2021 20:19

I’ve actually worked out a way it can stay. It’s the chair I can never quite bring myself to get rid of. It’s comfortable and visitors always love sitting in it and say oh no don’t get rid of this 🙈 It’s a gorgeous Italian leather quality piece (I got it second hand about 5 years ago) but it’s so big!

I contacted a charity about the sofa-I always pass on furniture to them as they do good work helping people starting again with nothing. The lady says they are booked out for collections but she’s going to do her best to find a cancellation or way to squeeze me in.

TheHoneyBadger · 28/08/2021 20:20

And thank you. I’m a lot less despairing now

SingToTheSky · 28/08/2021 20:42

That’s great 💖😀 it’s nice to see the hard work paying off and realise that things are getting less messy and difficult!

DH is home. Managed to get the living room better. He’s leaving around 9.45 tomorrow and DD1 around 10, so need to get the bulk of the sprucing up done before then really. Too tired for anything else now.

Oh yeah and tesco order. Woohoo.

I have a list of what I’d like to achieve in the morning before people get here, let’s just see if we can actually manage it given the fact we are all shattered (so staying up past midnight was a WONDERFUL idea, well done Sing). I mean it’s passable… it’s probably better than SILs have ever seen it actually. But what can I say, my standards have got higher. Or scraped off the floor at least 🤣 so I would quite like to make sure the place looks vaguely decent.

Well done on getting rid of CHAOS honey, i expect we will get there in around 15-18 years

THATmamaofMANY · 29/08/2021 04:57

Oh and i bought my first Christmas present this weekend 🎁 half price thanks to the Amazon sale

SingToTheSky · 29/08/2021 07:31

Woohoo that!
Unfortunately I was woken up just after 6 by the tesco driver - DH was up to get the shopping in between 6 and 7, but the guy phoned me because he wanted to check he had the right house… he’d looked at the name on the doorbell. We really should change it, we’ve lived here 3 years 😳🤣

Anyway I stayed in bed but haven’t managed to doze back off. I can hear DS is up too (Lego rustling makes a very distinctive sound 🤣) so may as well get on with stuff now.

po3.1
❗️Breakfast and main meds (not sorted vitamins for the week ahead yet)
❗️Write list of chores to delegate to the others
❗️Start tidying living room a bit more

@StillUpholding no need just yet as still on page 39 but it may be better to start September thread a bit early rather than have August thread 2? What would people rather?

Right, must get up.

OP posts:
HazelNuttyElf · 29/08/2021 07:51

Oooh we are getting close aren't we? I don't mind either way as far as the thread goes.
honey if it's a piece you love and you find a way to make it work, I say it's definitely worth keeping, I'm glad you're nearing the end of CHAOS
Sing I agree, it's time to update the name on your doorbell, I understand putting something like that off though, I do it all the time

Ta Das:

My to do list today is mahoosive. I think I need a mahoosive coffee first.

Honey wow, well done on sorting the living room!
That ah, I remember 4am feeding and MN sessions. Sending coffee.
You are on a roll with Christmas presents! I don't even know what I am going to get everyone yet. I do have all the other birthdays/anniversary presents and celebration plans in place though.
Sing survive your to do list.
Zoo how was it?! How was it?! How was it?!
Willow may your recovery days be filled with lovely cups of tea and naps ☺️

I am applying for a new position at work, which is jumping way above my head at the moment. Starting doing my prep for that today. If anything, the process will be interesting.

THATmamaofMANY · 29/08/2021 08:16

Mc you have reminded me i need to book a birthday party for october. Hope your work thing goes to plan!

I will report back when I've acquired bread and eaten breakfast as it all went on toast and pack up!!

TheHoneyBadger · 29/08/2021 09:32

I feel I've misled people - the living room definitely isn't finished and I'm not out of CHAOS yet. I can just see light at the end of the tunnel and IF I can keep my shit together a bit longer the tunnel is not that long Grin

Just put a lol on so far today and spent some quality time with the boy and animals (boy had been up all night and will now sleep all day).

I have been scanning the internet trying to find any details of what the hell we're meant to do as a teacher if our child tests positive with covid and there is no one else to take care of them. Previously it wouldn't have been a problem because you were legally obliged to isolate with them - now it's very unclear. If it was unpaid leave or subject to disciplinary action that would be against the equality act in terms of being a policy that adversely impacted women more than men because they remain the majority of carers and in my case it would also draw in the protected characteristic of marriage status ie. I'm single therefore there is no one but me who can do it given my child is isolated in the house and no one else should come in contact with him.

So that's my excuse for having done near bugger all this morning - does research count? It seems like there should be clear government guidance on this stuff for everyone given how many women must be panicking about this kind of thing currently.

Po3 time to get myself on the move:
-Fold and put away clean laundry
-Hang out wet lol
-Empty vacuum cylinder again (bloody cat)
