Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Disgusted husband. About the owners apparently. DH very angry at the fans' behaviour.

SingToTheSky · 02/05/2021 22:46

I was hiding with AC12 so just had to ask DH WTF was happening re the football. Awful. 😡

Must go and get DD1 to actually do the stuff she’s meant to be doing Hmm

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 02/05/2021 22:54

Really don't understand why ruining the fixture for everyone else was a way to show the owners "how Man U fans felt". Mind you, DH said his team have been playing so badly recently it was probably a blessing.

I have had a little too much wine and a lot too much time on Instagram and now I feel very inadequate that I cannot keep a beautiful shiny home with no clutter, next to no furniture, and lots of pom poms. I think I'd better go to bed.

SingToTheSky · 02/05/2021 22:59

You just need a few stunt pineapples willow! 🍍

FFS DD1 no I don’t care if your friend is only now allowed to FaceTime Hmm not my problem. Put your phone away child. 😡

Mc3209 · 02/05/2021 23:01

Willow put down the Instagram and move away slowly.
Round fabulous weather! Hope you manage to get that sleep.
Zoo I love my rubber brush for carpets. It's the only thing that gets my hair out of the bedroom carpet. I find picking up hair a gross job and hate doing it, but the carpet looks lovely afterwards. Hope you had a relaxing pampering day.

Ta das:
💥Lol
💥Rotated DW
💥Cleaned kitchen - cupboard fronts and all
💥Blitzed bathroom
💥Beds stripped and remade
💥Aired the house
💥Rubber brushed upstairs carpet
💥Hoover
💥Mopped all hard floors
💥Put away dry laundry

🍒👋

halfhope · 02/05/2021 23:03

Well done MC. Good tip.about bedroom carpet. On insta I enjoy watching cake icing 😁

SingToTheSky · 02/05/2021 23:33

I really need a rubber broom. I think DH gets a bit sick of cutting my hair out of the Hoover brush 😳 I have been moulting non stop since DD1 arrived (I have ludicrously thick hair so this isn’t a disaster, other than the hoovering!)

ta da
🍎set reminder to ring psychiatrist on Tuesday due to bank holiday. Hope I still get my meds on time as they are notoriously disorganised
🍏rotated Cagletini’s books (most are kept upstairs for bedtime and I’ve put them in a sturdier tub, but we also have a little book box downstairs so I’ve swapped them round a bit)
🍎gathered a bit more rubbish and recycling
🍏found a small basket and put flannels in it for the bathroom
🍎a little bathroom decluttering - empty bottles, stuff we don’t use etc
🍏washed out toiletries tubs
🍎bagged up some board books for charity
🍏bagged up woolly hats for the cupboard
🍎bit of bedroom decluttering - grotty pillows, buggy ephemera and believe it or not a few VHS tapes that have been sitting on my Kallax for months
🍏put LOL away - on the same day it was washed - almost unheard of!
🍎got DD1 to start laundry
🍏got Cagletini to pick up game pieces she had scattered ages ago
🍎printed more activity stuff for Cagletini
🍏got DD1 to throw away some non-donatable clothes (apparently the charity shop worthy ones have ended up in the washing...)
🍎bathed Cagletini and did her teeth before handing over to DH
🍏quick tidy in the living room
🍎swept kitchen and hallway floors (holy crap the kitchen floor is gross, I must scrub it tomorrow)
🍏poked Caglets to have showers
🍎watched LOD finale!!!
🍏poked DD1 to actually bloody well do her evening jobs thank you very much madam
🍎finally sorted out screen time account link thingy with DD1’s new phone

I. Am. Shattered.

Redsquirrel5 · 03/05/2021 00:48

Sing ‘ bagged up woolly hats for the cupboard’ no way will that be going on here. I had mine firmly on when I walked up to see BF on the farm, along with my two pairs of gloves, huge scarf and a cosy fleece. It was -1 here on Friday night!

Zoo love it that you walked ahead so you couldn’t see DDs face.

Ed love the photo. What a beautiful place to walk. Our woods are in bad condition just now and there is a notice up to advise against walking in them. Wildlife trust are hoping to come back and repair paths. A lot of locals are ignoring the note.

I am going on Wednesday and probably won’t take the i pad.

Haven’t done much flying.
Went to Mass
Sorted a few plants.
Walked to BFs to return her mask. Paper ad for plant.

I can't dispense with woolly hats here or I get sinusitis. Mine firmly attached til June to much consternation from locals.

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/05/2021 06:03

Grin i get disgusted looks from the locals because I drop my jumper wearing far too early in their opinion. Not worn a jumper in over a week already. They are still in wooly hats and coats.

Although to be fair it was cold enough for me to fig out a jumper yesterday. Not up as early as i would like, but there were people up and in the way so it defeated the purpose of being up so i rolled over and went back to sleep for an hour. About to get up and hit the ground running. Sooo much that needs doing today.

halfhope · 03/05/2021 07:27

today

home bleurgh

We are in two zones this week - hall and kitchen. I always thought it meant that on the first we switched to the second of the zones but that's not what Flylady is indicating for today. Any clarification gratefully received but I guess it means we can oscillate between hall and kitchen zones this week rather than switching from one to another. I may have been doing the two zone weeks wrong all along but there you go Grin

OP posts:
halfhope · 03/05/2021 07:29

So home bleurgh/blessing today or split up over the coming days as you please.

Take it easy today as it is a Bank Holiday for many.

Red enjoy your trip. sing loved the drawing about LOD.

1st week is typically the 1st zone. But it depends as she can be a bit batshit unpredictable with which zone. Mostly i have a list of the zones and tackle when it gets bad. Kitchen is a hell hole, hall is a mountain of laundry and fuck knows what the hell has happened to the porch. Hmm
You turn your back on the house for a week or two and it descends into what the flaming hell happened? there are 2 other adults here and a fully fledged teenager.

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/05/2021 07:34

Tada
Cats fed
Wash on

Kitchen
Cleaned windows
Wipe sills
Clean toaster crumb tray out
Wiped surfaces
Wiped cupboard fronts
Wipe hob
Spray sink and drainer shining stuff and leave to disinfect

Bathroom
Clean windows
Clean sills.wipe radiator
Wipe bath skirt
Wipe tilling around bath/shower,picking off cat litter
Disinfect cat litter contacts on bath
Clean sink
Sweep floor
Empty bin

Living room
Wipe table and chairs
Sweep floor

Wake zoolets
Make toast mountain

Plan was to ring "d"p(very very loosely on the "d")at 7 with weather report aim being to walk with zoolets early today as not seen him in a very long time and his phone contact is always with D's as he rings him, sometimes lil zoo(if she rings him) very rare dd2(as won't ring him first).can't remember last time we talk properly as I CBA it all anymore..anyhoo,he was woken by phone and declared too tired, maybe later.he don't do rain,so no possibility of being out once showers/rain moves in so meet is off.zoolets are upset.im very pissed off.he can sleep later FFS

Anyways,I've decided we can go it alone(I had agreed to ride in his car in masks all windows down) so it will take longer as need walk to get there but D's is very sad.dd2 now having huge panic attack, lil zoo complaining don't wanna walk that far.hard cheese,I don't drive and she's always tired whether we go or not so it will make no difference and then when rains later we can all hang out in pjs and watch film/play games/have bit quiet time each❤️

To do
Help dd2 calm down enough eat and leave house

Possibly do bedrooms/finish front room later
Time with my babies so they know tired or not at least one parent is here for them...
Pampering, cos it's going to be a looong day!

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/05/2021 07:37

you turn your back on the house for a week or two and it descends into what the flaming hell happened?
Definitely only a week(or less depending on various variables)Grin

StillUpholding · 03/05/2021 07:59

Morning. Have been brought breakfast in bed by DH, which is surprising as he overindulged in the beers last night so I wasn’t expecting him awake before me.

I am a little scared to go downstairs. We brought everything in last night and I set the first DW load off, but there are glasses/dishes/rubbish/bin bags to deal with, cut grass trailed through the house, leftovers to sort, BBQ to clean and a gazebo to put back down. It was a lovely day though. So nice to socialise.

I also have the ironing to do, DD’s bed to change and carpet to clean (she woke up wetting the bed, stopped herself, but then didn’t make it to the toilet bless her. She was so upset but still half asleep). We will also need to meal plan and prepare some food for work. Sigh. I don’t want to move.

The trip will do you good Red, I hope you have a lovely time.

Amazing lists Sing and Willow! Although I think I prefer yours Hills Grin

Outside breakfast sounds lovely Round

Lovely photo ED

DH was relieved about the football (Man U fan) as he really wanted to watch it but didn’t want to be rude to our visitors.

I agree re insta Willow, I dream of one of those perfect shiny homes, but it really isn’t realistic with a family and pets and working and having a life. I suspect a lot of staging on most of them. Cleverly angled photos.

StillUpholding · 03/05/2021 08:04

Have definitely not discovered the secret to that either Zoo, other than dumping the litter tray in the utility room where I’d don’t see it as much. Grrr at uselessness of “d”p. Hope you all enjoy your walk today. The Zoolets are so lucky to have you.

MrsTidyHouse · 03/05/2021 08:11

Cleared and cleaned the worst corner of the kitchen yesterday. It was crammed with stuff in drawers and tubs and bags. Stuff sorted out into like with like. Very little to declutter atm, concentrating on discovering what's there. Found several useful bits and pieces that are back in the drawers together with screws and fixings for when I get round to it. A lot of these things were scattered around the garage and shed on random shelves, so a good result for me. I know it sounds like an awful lot of churning, but it calms me down a lot to know that everything is out of random corners, and into where it would be if I decide to use it.

Later, the top hinge of a wall unit broke as I opened the door, and the whole thing nearly crashed down on my head. Managed to lift the door off the bottom hinge, really taken aback at the weight of the door, which is now on the kitchen floor.

DS responded to more photos of teeshirts, which I'll take round later this week. Today I'm going through any jerseys, sweatshirts, shorts and jeans of his that are still here. Then I'll be able to put the shelves back in so that the wardrobe is a cupboard again and can accommodate his hobby stuff better.

After that, swap around the LOs' next-size-up uniforms into their own rooms instead of cluttering the landing. Stop using LB's wardrobe as an overflow for my clothes.

Then back to the kitchen and utility to finish off yesterday's tidy and tame the laundry monster. Tomorrow is recycling trolley.

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/05/2021 08:27

tidy you are doing great ploughing thru stuff!

We are finally ready to leave.location chosen(managed forest about 1-11/2 hours away, with garden centre on other side that has a "the works" in it so I feel a little mooch in there might be nice for them alongside the plants etc.other option was about 11/2 hours away to a canal that leads to a lake.couple little bridges to cross etc, walk around it and back to canal.downside that one us the walk there's all roadways, forest is across open countryside)after 15 minutes so will be much better for D's and dd2 as nature us so calming!
Dd2 took ages drop from orbiting sun anxiety to just above current everyday anxietyso we may get wet on way back.thankfully only dad suffers from hatred of getting wet.i have told them from a very young age "we aren't made of sugar and won't melt!"
