Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

That 9 weeks.its flown by(but not for you with spd etc)does UF still need sorting out)place under patio?

StillUpholding · 02/05/2021 07:20

Hope everyone’s aches and pains are a bit easier today. That I totally get what you mean with the shoulder thing. I often get that and feel like if I could just take my arms off at night so they were out of the way I would sleep much better Grin.

Mc you will start to get evenings with your DH back eventually. We quite often have a nice dinner, glass of gin and music on a Friday these days as DD tends to be asleep by 7:30-8, but when she was younger and a nightmare sleeper I definitely felt like an old bore sometimes, and DH probably missed it more than I did. We were discussing potential DC2 last night and agreed if we did go for it we’d both have to accept that there’d be times in the first year that we’d hate each others guts Grin

Hills and Zoo those ta da lists are inspired (except the things that went wrong, sorry about those).

YesTaDas:

🧸 walk to toy shop with DD (resulted in yet another doll but could have been worse).
🧸 Hall decluttered
🧸 kitchen and dining room dusted, floors hoovered and mopped
🧸 kitchen table decluttered of crap and cleaned
🧸 patio doors cleaned of sticky finger prints.
🧸 lost the will to live, but somehow DNLMS, when I discovered the state of the living room and DD’s bedroom that had happened while I was busy and DH was in charge. Apparently.
🧸 decided a trip to the park was in order to get me out of my funk, and managed 14k steps o according to my Fitbit as we went to one further away.
🧸 ordered pizza for tea and allowed to DD to stay up watching a film until she fell asleep on the sofa. Lazy but easy bedtime.

This morning there is regret at giving up yesterday as the plan is celebrating DD’s birthday. DM and DSF in the garden for birthday cake and coffee in the morning, then a BBQ in the afternoon with DF, DSis and DN. Obviously they won’t be in the house but will need to walk through and use the loo so will need to
🙄 reclaim living room
🙄 clean hall floor and hoover stairs
🙄 clean loo
🙄 write shopping list and head to supermarket to buy BBQ food, and apparently a BBQ as DH has informed me the one we have is “not accessible” and rusty. (May delegate this to DH).
🙄 once DH has cut the grass: decorate garden with banner and balloons, clean table, locate cushions for garden seats and do some weeding.

All by 11. Should probably get up...

StillUpholding · 02/05/2021 07:22

Oh and it’s also forecast to rain later. Great. Add purchase and construct gazebo to the list.

EventuallyDistracted · 02/05/2021 07:38

I got woken up at 5 by a cat screaming Shock. Couldn't get back to sleep so I have gone for a walk in the woods. It is glorious.

MrsTidyHouse · 02/05/2021 07:52

Much Flying needed here in both kitchen and hallway. Fed up of stepping on small cars which merge into the hall carpet, so we're swapping things around a bit. Small cars are going into the corner in the kitchen once I've cleared it out and cleaned it. Then the same for the front hall.

I just hope this helps cut down on the squabbles by being able to keep an eye on them while also being busy in the back of the house and garden.

foxessocks · 02/05/2021 07:57

Sorry missed the start of the new thread, thank you for April ED and thanks for May hope!

Hope the party goes well up and the rain holds off for you. Hope your dd had a great birthday by the way 🎉

ED an early morning walk like that seems wonderful

Yesterday I took the kids out all day with my mum so that my dad and dh could remove the wall between our living room / new dining area. They did a great job and all the dust and debris had gone by the time we got back. It is still messy though but just because we still have boxes with bits of kitchen in everywhere, tools, wires hanging out of walls etc 😂 I did feel a bit overwhelmed by it because we then had to decide where to put all our furniture now that a wall has been removed, we were hoping it would all become clear once we'd actually done it. But it didn't. We've come up with a sort of solution now but until the rest is finished I don't think we'll be able to tell if it really works or not. So I have to be patient which is difficult!

SingToTheSky · 02/05/2021 08:22

Wow! Just WOW!

Go outside to garden and look what happens😳

Thank you ED for leading the last thread whilst you were so busy.

Thank you Hope for leading the May 😳 one.

I have decided to go after speaking to youngest DSis. They are both able to do garden visits and been to the beach where we all used to live so that is good.

DS has had to change plans so he is taking his car and we are going by A9 now. DSisters live between Inverness and Aberdeen so we are going to coastal village by the sea for two nights and staying where dad owned. Hopefully DSis x2 will come and nephew is staying in a cottage there. Then DS will leave his car at DSis house and go to Aberdeen on the train for two days then come back on the Sunday and we return on the Monday. So I get some time with him and some time with DSisters as neither are working which they usually are when I go up. DSis1 is on sick leave and DSis3 is on furlough still. Niece has new baby so I get to see my D GN as a baby which I have never seen other DGNand nieces as babies. Hopefully I get to see all. DN is at home as he has been seconded to another hospital so hope to see him and then DS and him have touched base with each other and may meet up in Aberdeen if he goes back to normal job. So not looking like I can go to Art gallery 😕which was a lovely idea thank you.
Been in the garden and DS rang Rebike so all bikes gone but my old trike. Thought I would be upset as I wanted to give them to another group but these provide trading to young people and sell at a cheap price affordable so that is good. The older man collecting was so grateful too that I felt ok about it. Decluttering!
Pots all painted need to finish door.

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋to all I need to get ready for Mass. sorry no personals.

ooh the gazebo sounds lovely still and I really liked ED's woodland scene. I adore bluebells. I was just musing about early babyhood after reading MC's and Mrstidy's posts. Such a distant memory now and at the time could be stressful as little time for much else - you have to look after yourself and go with the flow a little with housework and other things. Some things won't get done and 12 years later it doesn't seem so bad that things didn't get done.
Hope lilzoo is feeling better zoo - impressive list there. And I hope kitchen is well on the way foxes - the dust will be awful but turn a blind eye! Red the art gallery will always be there for you. Glad you are seeing family. I'll be thinking of you. x

Checking in! Had a really productive morning, feeling pretty chuffed. DH is about to take Cagletini and DS to the park (DD1 went to meet friends after getting her chores done) so I will relax a bit as now I’ve sat down and stopped I fear I might not get up 😂

ta da so far
🍏morning routine with Cagletini
🍎last night’s towel LOL in dryer
🍏shower/moisturise
🍎normal LOL - empty basket woohoo!
🍏emptied DW
🍎refilled DW with last night’s pans (DH made Breakfast For Dinner, yum!)
🍏cleaned off irrelevant stuff and started updating blackboard for the week ahead (didn’t manage to update this week oops)
🍎successful delegating of chores to the Caglets - between them, they hunted for rubbish, took rubbish and recycling out, tidied the shoe rack, cleaned the downstairs bathroom sink, put DVDs away and cleared their windowsills so DH could scrub them
🍏rubbish/recycling hunt in our room (made a game of it with Cagletini)
🍎paid tap invoice for the new term
🍏bought pack of lessons (slightly cheaper than PAYG) for parkour and booked DS into all four May classes, wrote in diary
🍎discussed diary and plans with DH and added what I could to blackboard (some question marks as we are waiting on info)
🍏printed game instructions for Cagletini (charity shop bargain - missing the rule sheet but otherwise good as new) so she could play with DH
🍎LOL in dryer
🍏got DS to do his laundry
🍎checked bank and moved money to savings
🍏prepped and printed Green Eggs and Ham script for DS

Hiya ladies, hope you’re all doing well today! I’ve only had 4 hours sleep so I’m looking forward to bedtime. We had breakfast outside this morning, and then 2 of our friends came to visit so we had a picnic at the local park. We’re back home now, I think I might go for a nap and leave bath and bedtime up to DH.

Thank you mc, I’ll let you know if I need the patio😉. You are in no way a bore! Post baby life is very different to pre baby life!

Sorry you’re feeling unwell dancing, it’s weird that so many of us are feeling that way.

Thank you zoo I’m still feeling a bit poorly but much better than yesterday, hopefully after a big sleep tonight I’ll feel better.

Good luck with the party ed, I hope the rain held off!

foxes well done to your dad and DH for getting the wall down, hopefully you manage to find a place for or the furniture!

I hope you’re feeling a bit better now sing! Brilliant list!

red I’m glad you’ve decided to go, it sounds like you’ll have a brilliant time!

Brilliant list zoo, I hope lilzoo feels better soon and that the walk clears your throat!

Afternoon. Have achieved masses today.

❤️ DH and I are friends again and had coffee and pastries together for breakfast
🧡 Planned the menu for the week
💛 Filled in the diary and fridge planner for next week
💚 Rotated the DW
💙 LOL
💜 Went to Dunelm - bought 4 wire baskets for DD and an obelisk for the garden. Also picked up 2 possible wallpaper samples for the family bathroom (DH would not consider the yellow one with Bassett hounds on 😭)
🤎 Went to B&Q - 2 more wallpaper samples
🖤 Went to Lidl - 1 week's shopping, an incinerator, a stacked pizza cooking rack and 4 bathmats.
❤️ Took it all home and unpacked it
🧡 Let DD burn her GCSE notes in the incinerator
💛 Put the obelisk in the garden and planted out the broad beans around it, from the cold frame
💚 Weeded the New Flower Bed (from last summer)
💙 Weeded the long flower bed by the fence
💜 Planted broad beans from the kitchen windowsill into the space in the cold frame
🤎 Hoed up the weeds in the paving at the front
🖤 Pulled up 20 tiny self-seeded sycamores from a 30cm square plant pot by the front door
❤️ Cleared up and put everything away
🧡 Commisserated with DH, whose football match was cancelled due to the actions of the Other Team's supporters
💛 Made side dishes / accompaniments for the steak DS2 cooked
💚 Cleared kitchen
💙 Got in bath to ease aches from the garden.
I'm glad it was a quiet bank holiday, god forbid there be lots to do! 🤣
