Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

What does your elf usually do, Sing? Have they earned a day off? 🤣🤣

DH is bloody awful for micro-managing during house projects. He wants to get A Man in, but is Too Busy to connect directly with said man, so spends hours quizzing me, restating and re-examining decisions we made weeks ago and then poking me to engage with Said Man and report back in detail to start the process again.

I have told him I'm not up for that any more, either talk to the builder or leave it to me.

SingToTheSky · 01/05/2021 11:57

Ooh. Totally not flying related but I’m happy as I just found a website that has the entire text of green eggs and ham. I was going to type it all out. I’m doing an English project on it with DS next week - turning it into a script so he can try reading both parts with expression (he’s getting better at this but still needs work). Also writing his own verses. And then we might do some maths around how often each word appears (fun fact: it was written for a bet that he couldn’t write a book with only 50 different words) :o

SingToTheSky · 01/05/2021 12:03

Willow (I had forgotten you name changed!) that sounds so frustrating! I like your new rule, he can’t have it both ways. If he keeps trying to, you know where the shovels are (I’ve put up a nice tool rack by the naughty corner patio doors)

I think my elf is probably the manifestation of my inattention... I shall blame him for every time I get distracted 😂

Perceived male DIY ineptitude syndrome - typical presentation.

So sorry Willow - no cure. Fatalities increased due to co-morbidity with being annoying.

An excellent diagnostic assessment there hope! :o

Have had lunch - finding it a bit easier to have something proper even if it’s just filled pasta with added veg/salad. Cagletini happily sat on her booster cushion this time.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 01/05/2021 13:56

Balls. Now DH is upset because he was Only Helping To Share The Load with My Project (yer what, sunshine?) and just wanted to know what was happening in the daily meetings I was having with the builder while DH was walking the dog (the what, sorry?). I am to crack on with My Project as I See Fit

So now I am furious and upset and mainlining cake.

On the plus side, it turns out I make an excellent dairy free marmalade tea bread.

halfhope · 01/05/2021 13:59

willow oh dear but at least the cake sounds delicious. A very good use of marmalade.

I am flagging and feeling like i haven't achieved much. So I am afraid i need a ta da list. Sorry.

ta da
running cleaning cycle on Dish washer
run a load of towels through the dryer
run a load of towels through the washer and dryer
run a cleaning wash on the washing machine
fold some clothes
delegate the ironing of tea towels
File notes that were for exam sat
take vitamins
ensure wool jumpers in plastic bags and send downstairs for going into the freezer
sort paperwork piles 1, 2 and 3
water plants. I have 1 left and seeds to go
refresh lavendar satchets
start folding the clothes
put away into new storage box the herbal remedies equipment
go through all 3 drawers of the bedside unit - clean/get rid of falling apart/not fitting stuff
research a topic that needs some focus
break a crap ton of plates and cups
take an old calendar and strip out the pictures for saving and put in bag for burning
find a home for empty note books
collect recycling to go out
prep financial paperwork for filing (staple and hole punch as needed)
drop coffee jar on the floor
charge various electrical items (especially electric tooth brush)
wash duvet that was waiting to go away but got covered in stuffs and needed re washing
check what is needed to be prepped before the next exam in 2 weeks
put some random bits of shopping away
deal with the person who is upset because the postie did NOT ring the door bell so his plant will now die in the post
try to convince teenager to give me his washing
try to convince someone to wash the bins that have been waiting for someone to do them for a week Hmm
sort through 4 of 18 drawers - remove what shouldn't be in there and clean.
Start sorting though 3 of 12 storage tubs.
start the process of removing spider guts off various surfaces
start the process of removing spider webs off the walls and ceiling
sort through 1 small plastic storage tub

I am about to go make tea for the people and then i should get on and actually file paperwork in the relevant files, but it is going to require moving furniture and i am tired so might see if I can tackle the ironing pile instead. Maybe see if i can get on top of some of the pots and pans that are awaiting for me to deal with in the kitchen.

If not there is scanning and printing stuff that needs doing and some more notes to order and file. Tbh i just want to sleep right now. This lack of coffee is starting to get to me.

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/05/2021 18:15

hills you have achieved a lot today lovely.i feel without plenty of coffee that is worthy of a 🌟 or 🏅
Willow sounds like you have definitely done the right thing.if it was made lemon and lime(allergies to oranges) I'd be pinching a slice of cake.

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/05/2021 18:29

Lil zoo and D's have appeared asking play keyboard,so any chance increasing nap us over
Ask DD collect washing, she's now hanging it up

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/05/2021 18:57

Going to be honest and say that a good 80% of the problems in my wrist are actually caused by problems in my shoulders.

And yes, i didn't realise how much i have done until i had to scroll through.

SingToTheSky · 01/05/2021 19:02

That’s interesting hills is that due to a sort of overcompensating for the shoulder pain?

I’ve been managing little bits of housework here and there. Nothing to really make the house a lot nicer but at least I’m finding the day to day stuff easier.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 01/05/2021 19:21

Ive been having shoulder issues at night, like i dont know what to do with them when i lie down. I am aware that makes no sense at all Hmm i can't wait to sleep without being pregnant

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/05/2021 20:04

No idea. the issues in my shoulders affect the entire way that the muscles work and interact with each other and basically set off a cascade of issues.
So the shoulders get real tight and the muscles can't work properly which just throws everything else off balance and causes more problems further down the line.
Have similar issues with back, hip knee combinations
And shoulder, back hip combinations

In short i am basically falling apart Grin

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/05/2021 20:22

hills thank god it's not just me falling apart!my hip plays up because one shoulder slopes down and then shooting pains thru arm of the "up" shoulderI cannot keep shoulders straight, everytime I move away a mirror it slopes again.drives me nuts!!

halfhope · 01/05/2021 21:18

Jeepers zoo and Hills very impressive ta das. that sorry to hear about shoulder issues while lying down. Only 9 weeks to go though!

Spent most of today doing online classes. Knocked a [full but cold] mug of coffee over my wireless keyboard and thought it was okay until I discovered e,d and c were no longer working so I dug out a wired keyboard and I'm back in business. Left dh do keep the house going Grin

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 01/05/2021 21:59

Oh no re: keyboard, Hope. Do you think it will come back to life once dry?

Sorry everyone is falling to bits, me too. Something is causing neck pain on my LHS - I think it's my desk, which is an antique escritoire (ok, £50 in a charity shop) and so has no straight lines anywhere. Foot still troublesome so knees and lower back unhappy.

What a bunch of crocks we make! That I can't believe you only have 9 weeks to go!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 01/05/2021 22:00

Anyone else want to join the Broken Wings Club? 🤣🤣

Mc3209 · 01/05/2021 22:20

That not long to go, you are almost there.
Willow my sympathies re DH. I hope he will come to his senses soon. Hope loving your prognostication 😁
Hills That's an impressive list, especially on limited caffeine.
Sing every little counts
Red what did you decide re your trip to Aberdeen?
Zoo sending healing vibes your way.

Ta das (not many) :
💥Multiple DW runs
💥LOL
💥Multiple kitchen tidy up

I feel like such a killjoy today. DH made a lovely roast lamb for dinner, only he timed it to be right bang on in the middle of baby's bedtime. Annoying but not critical, as I am a bit free range with nap times and bedtimes and didn't think it would delay it by much. Then, after a few glasses of wine he played music, just like we did pre baby. The only problem is all I could think of was baby's bedtime (we are talking around 9pm time) and how cranky he is going to be if not settled soonish, and that he needs a bath etc beforehand. I found I was telling DH to stop the music, so I can read DS a book and settle him to sleep. It's like we are in two parallel universes. It was great to see DH finally relax and be cheerful this evening (he has been quite moany lately), and I felt guilty for spoiling the fun. I had to be sober responsible one, but I can't get the image of a scruffy nagging bore self image out of my head.

Mc3209 · 01/05/2021 22:23

Oops, cross posts! Healing vibes to all with ailments!
Hope I hope you manage to resuscitate your wireless keyboard.

roundtherekin · 01/05/2021 22:28

Thank you ED for the lovely April thread!, and thank you hope for this one!❤️

Hiya, not had a great day today. My stomachs playing up so I wasn’t well enough to take the DC swimming, DH took DD on his own and I stayed home with DS. Then we were meant to go for a meal with FIL, but I wasn’t well enough. I told DH he could take the DC with him to see FIL or FIL could come to ours, but DH decided to go out just him and FIL so I was left with both DC and feeling ill myself🙄. I feel awful but today was full of screen time because I just couldn’t function, DH has got back now but I’m giving him the silent treatment. If I feel well enough tomorrow I might go to my DM’s on my own and he can have the DC all day.

Thank you sing, I’m glad to hear Cagletini wasn’t sick again last night.

Thank you dancing I love their room, I think it’s very cool!. It’s such a shame how much the DC have missed out on, I hope some farms are open near you so you can take them.

Ooh very exciting THAT! DD is in a mid sleeper now at 2, which I’m guessing is against guidelines but she knows not to play and not to get up/down without our help, so I think it depends on how much you trust your DC. I know you can get lower bunk beds.

I love the new light willow! That cake sounds amazing!

Brilliant lists hills and zoo!

Sorry to hear so many of us aren’t feeling well! I think we all need a long break.

Very little to report in regards of flying, sorry guys!

Mc3209 · 01/05/2021 22:42

Round there is still some space under the patio.
Hope you feel better soon. Don't push yourself, housework will still be there.

Dancingtomusic · 01/05/2021 23:09

Joining broken wings club - painful, frozen joints in hand, knees so painful. Earache, sore throat. Achey back. Silly pain in my calf- Wtf is that all about?
Forced myself to go park with kids.
I give up 🤦‍♀️ sick of feeling ill.
