Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Tbh i have been up since 5am, have to hoover the lounge still, have a 1am meeting and a 5am start. I am about ready to drop. May is always tricky for me anyway so fuck knows why i volunteered for it, and why i was very glad that you volunteered to take it on instead.

Sleep now, process feelings later. Will be back, probably tomo, but should not be here again tonight because damn I will be sleeping where I stand tomo as it is.

halfhope · 03/05/2021 20:08

No problem with the thread leading hills. It's got me back on track. Tomorrow is another day. Have a good sleep.

Hills I’m sorry you experienced that too. Don’t go! It’s def a divisive issue and as I said I understand why DH is worried, we have a pretty good partnership so will def be discussing where he feels the line would be between “helping out” and “too much” IYSWIM. He said we aren’t there yet (it was more of a “I’m worried it’ll get to that stage if you keep adding stuff” if that makes sense) - so will absolutely be communicating and finding a level we are both happy with

SingToTheSky · 03/05/2021 20:20

Really appreciate all comments and thoughts BTW! Whatever view they take. 🥰

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 03/05/2021 20:21

StillUpholding · 03/05/2021 20:58

Well not much more was achieved here. I did a pile of ironing and DH sorted the gazebo and BBQ (in the rain Hmm). Think the weekend caught up with us all and we’ve watched Disney most of the afternoon and then had a takeaway for tea, which isn’t great after yesterday Blush. DH did at least take DD for a short walk.

Hope you manage a decent sleep Hills. You have so much on Flowers. Hope DS feels better soon.

Sing you and DH seem very good at discussing and compromising. I think it can be quite hard to reach an agreement re parenting because most people will either want to do things similar to how they were brought up, or do the complete opposite. It’s hard to meet in the middle. Me and DH agree on most things but we struggle with toys for DD. He always got what he wanted pretty much when he wanted it whereas we only got big items at Christmas/birthdays or saved up for them. His mum buys DD something most weekends, which I think is too much, but he can’t see an issue. It’s difficult.

merryhouse · 03/05/2021 22:41

willow two days behind everyone else I am now singing "take! these broken wings! and learn to fly again, learn to live so free..."

halfhope · 03/05/2021 22:53

I remember that song from the 80s 😁 twas a teen then.

I was expected to help out sometimes but no real set chores except Saturdays. I did some shopping from about 10/11 and used to make lunch on Saturdays which was a big plate of salad and a large plate of cold meats but mostly Italian. Salamis, Mortadella etc I liked the artistry of it. I stripped my bedding and took it down to the 🧺 laundry. My mum had to use the laundry under the flat and it had two huge sinks and a copper that had to be lit. It took ages to fill the copper with water and it had to come up to temperature. Nappies were a boil wash. You sought of cooked them in there for a while then wrung them and rinse in both sinks through the wring then they were ready to hang on the line. I often watched my sister’s because mum couldn’t watch and wash. A few years later I did all the shopping on Saturdays. Made my bed washed up once a week at least and make the meal on Saturday night. I learnt to bake before I could cook but I must have been reasonably competent as I was left with my two younger sister’s while mum went up to organise her mother’s funeral and look after her sister who had had a miscarriage. She already had a number of children. I was 15 and I remember skivving off school one day to get all the washing and ironing done and ride my horse as he hadn’t been exercised and he was used to being ridden every day. He was my responsibility. Mum always put a lot of faith in me. Dad was away a lot.

My children were expected to tidy there toys from an early age. They made their bed at about three or four for a while because they liked helping. They weren’t as helpful as they grew but were expected to help sometimes. We cooked and baked together and like me they could make simple recipes like rock buns etc. I taught them to use the washing machine about 14 DS3 was later.
I must have done a good job as all of my sons live on there own and don’t need anyone to look after their houses. DD was less inclined and DH used to let her off which annoyed me.
I think if you teach them how they learn for the future. We weren’t always strict but we did expect them to step up if I was ill. I had to nag occasionally to czI kicked myself up the bum and whizzed through with the vacuuming. Washed up. Sorted some stuff in the dining room. I did an hour plus ironing and just had to heat up the curry.

Tired now hope to see all tomorrow after a good night’s sleep hopefully.

Hope was ment to add😋to pie!

EversoDelighted · 04/05/2021 05:46

I've been awake since 4. We finally ordered the new kitchen yesterday and I have so much kitchen related stuff swirling around in my brain. Was awake at 5 yesterday with the same stuff and 5 the day before due to cats yowling. Going to be a long day.

MrsTidyHouse · 04/05/2021 07:11

Each time I went upstairs, I looked in the wardrobes and cupboards and enjoyed the feeling of gaining back control of the stuff. I'm going to take photos for reference because I can never remember what's behind doors. Much prefer open shelves but not for clothes of course.

Enjoyed all the tv. Lots of lifestyle proogrammes which helps me turn things over in my mind.

Tidied and sorted a lot more in the kitchen. Also tackled my bureau where I was in the habit of stuffing carrier bags into odd corners and drawers. Another big bag of various packaging is in the tardis-like understairs cupboard.

Woke up this morning with a real sense of achievement. Think my mindset is changing again. Need to look realistically at whether I'm likely to use all that packaging. I think that's extremely unlikely. Far more inclined to donate or freegle things or take to the recycling centre as most of our stuff was cheap or second-hand in the first place, and gets used till it's beyond repair.

Redsquirrel5 · 04/05/2021 08:49

MrsTidy take some to the charity shop they are always grateful for carrier bags and packaging like bubble wrap is useful for crockery, glass etc. I keep some in a bag in the car but the rest now go to charity shops. Not that I have many carrier bags that are plastic but occasionally forget to take a bag with me.
I know what you mean about going back to check your handiwork.

MrsTidyHouse · 04/05/2021 08:52

SingToTheSky · 04/05/2021 09:45

Morning all. Still achy as hell and painful/rattly breathing etc so I’m a bit miserable today. But I really do need to get on with stuff. Tempted to write a big list for the day but I’m not sure it’s a good idea motivation wise Hmm so I’ll take it in baby steps instead!

po3.1
1️⃣shower teeth moisturise dressed
2️⃣ring psychiatrist to get new prescription written
3️⃣do ONS survey we got invited to as it’s the last day today (we get a voucher for it yay!)

SingToTheSky · 04/05/2021 09:47

Hope everyone is feeling ok today, lots of caffeine in the naughty corner for the early risers (and chamomile tea, lavender pillows, and fluffy blankets if a nap is on the cards).

Tidy it’s wonderful to see you feeling more positive! It’s so good to be able to recognise our achievements. 💐

SingToTheSky · 04/05/2021 09:55

DS is about to get on with some maths. He’s got two pages today as none done yesterday (I’d forgotten it was a BH but he has five pages left in the book so it means he can still finish it this week and move on to other stuff next week!).

Today I’m also getting him to write a list of his clubs and what equipment is needed for each - a lot of it has changed due to covid (eg he now needs hand sanitiser for tae kwon do, we will need our own mugs for forest school etc) and then laminate it (any excuse 😇🤣) and stick it by the front door so he can check he’s got everything. I’ll also leave a space to write on anything else for specific sessions like if he needs his compass for scouts etc.

Right, shower time.

foxessocks · 04/05/2021 10:38

Good morning, bad night sleep here too, ds woke up with a snotty nose at 3am and then ended up in our bed so we slept really badly. He's absolutely fine this morning and full of beans. I am not!

Tidy that's great that you are really seeing and appreciating progress made!

Sing big lists can be overwhelming, power of 3 is good and enjoy your laminating!

ED wahey for new kitchen ordering! Sorry it's making your mind spin though I certainly can relate Smile

Trying to get back to a bit of flying today after a weekend of moving furniture round and trying to tidy up the building site that is our kitchen! Things are less chaotic again for now...so I have got a LOL on and will make sure I get the bed sheets all changed today. Working too but only half day because we finally have hair cuts later on!!

Catch you all later!

Redsquirrel5 · 04/05/2021 10:57

That is a great idea Sing.
Sorry I disappeared quickly but phone was ringing downstairs for the second time. Raced down thinking it might be one of the boys or something wrong with BF but no no one there so p🤬with these callers. Had two more after getting up. DH answered. Blocked them. And again. So 5 calls since 8:30am. No one there.

Anyway great news ED but understand the apprehension. So glad we made the choice we did. Expensive purchase but looks great, ironed out the difficult things and everything is very useful. Love my pan drawers and self closing at a touch.

Zoo glad you enjoyed your walk and didn’t get too wet. Often better once you get out thinking Zoo lets here and agree you will make a lovely granny.

To do list

Finish ironing just sheets they are cotton so need ironed. Top and bottom plus one. Ditched one yesterday as too thin. Need to buy some more. Seem to be missing two, wonders if DH has hidden them. I bought them for mum and sister gave them back afterwards and she kept duvet cover. Which thinking about it would have been lovely to have as Japanese Blossom. Sis didn’t have one for spare room. I could have given me sheets but they were much more expensive than I would have bought myself. Egged on by sister it came to quite a lot $$$.

Find TKmaxx a good place to buy quality at a better price. I bought some Dorma embroidered ones very reasonably.

Finish dining room end. Room split by two doors so walk through iyswim computer desk and a cupboard of ...things on other side. I bought it from auction but it was bigger than the space I wanted it. It is part larder so I would like to decluttering and use all for larder.

Pack case for tomorrow.

Wash kitchen and bathroom floors. Pointless yesterday as DH in and out without wiping feet 🤬

Some cluster from loft in sitting room as DH emptied the suitcase. It was Christmas stuff he swore wasn’t up in the loft. Poor Santa and reindeer. I have them out now haha!🤣

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒to everyone.
