Fledglings Fly as we reach July

ExpletiveDelighted · 30/06/2019 22:19

Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the Flyaldy launchpad, which summarises everything you need to know on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly. Most of us do not follow it strictly but adapt it tou our individual circumstances.

Flylady flags up as a Not Secure website on some browsers, so best to avoid entering any personal information and take care with downloads/links.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual cake and wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Oh and not forgetting "habit of the month" which for July is : not published yet but likely to be Swish and Swipe

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Therapy was good :)

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/07/2019 14:20

Bower Flowers I have my fingers crossed that a good solution comes your way very soon! You clearly care a lot about your job and the children and i think it is always a huge loss when someone like you leaves the job. Too many people working with children / in education dont have the actual children at the front of their minds.

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/07/2019 14:23

Thank great lapuna

ChicCroissant · 03/07/2019 19:33

zoo if you don't look after yourself who is going to look after everyone else? You do need to prioritise yourself.

Good to hear that the therapist was nice, Laputa and that the appointment went well.

Crossing many body parts for the new job Bower.

My schedule took another swerve today as DD was ill in school and I had to collect her - she'll def be off tomorrow now, but already seems a lot better and is keeping food down.

TooStressyTooMessy · 03/07/2019 20:32

Hi all, just catching up on the thread. So sorry to hear so many people struggling Flowers. Chic, hope your DD feels better soon. Fingers crossed for the job Bower.

Laputa, the book is ‘The tent, the bucket and me by Emma Kennedy. It’s actually very funny, I am just rubbish at reading these days. I used to read loads pre-kids but that was also pre high speed Internet! It’s more than that though, I would never sit in the daytime and read for pleasure as I would feel far too guilty. You can’t multitask while doing it and so I would much rather have music or something to watch so I can get stuff done at the same time. Or I am busy dealing with the kids. I would read a parenting book or a work book but that feels like a valid use of time iyswim? In the evening eventually if I do sit down (late ish) I tend to watch a quick thing in my phone or faff on here then bed. I’ve thought about audiobooks actually as I think I would get on really well with them but not sure how expensive it all is. Never looked into it. I can totally identify with putting self care at the bottom of the list zoo.

No flying here. Was at work today and not the easiest bedtime and DD2 is still awake so going to check on her now.

TooStressyTooMessy · 03/07/2019 20:37

Expletive, I’ve just seen the post about the pot you found in a charity shop. How lovely Smile.

Shannaratiger · 03/07/2019 20:57

Evening everyone

Wrote a post then lost it!

Bower good luck getting the nice job.
Zoo hope tomorrow is more calm
Stressy Hope DD2 has settled down so you can have a relax.
Laputa brilliant therapy was a success.

Can't remember what I did today, apart from an extra 30 minutes at work

Dd has the chiropractor again tomorrow morning. Hopefully it will help balance her hip which should reduce the pain when walking and encourage her to do her physio excercises. Hmm

Have a good evening everyone.

foxessocks · 03/07/2019 21:15

Hi everyone! Sorry been awol, I had to work today as well due to sports day yesterday so making up hours. Been a busy week so far!

I've done zero flying just the basics but the house is actually looking ok because we haven't been here much well apart from the mountain of dishes in the kitchen. Shining my sink doesn't seem to be happeningGrin

foxessocks · 03/07/2019 21:16

Hope things turn out okay bower fingers crossed

ChicCroissant · 04/07/2019 00:10

As well as being ill, DD's brace has broken again! FFS! Not sure if the orthodontist will see her when she is ill but I'll ring them and find out - obviously she won't miss any school as she needs to be off Thursday anyway!

Bowerbird5 · 04/07/2019 07:20

Chic how annoying. I hope she is feeling better today. You probably know this already but ginger ale left to go flat is very good for sickness. Likewise 7up a doctor told me as it has the sugar salt replacement. Has worked for me.

Thanks for the support everyone. I am not sure if I am going to reply. I am thinking I am just going to retire. I feel completely broken. GP wants to sign me off for the rest of term. I sat crying in his room.

Bowerbird5 · 04/07/2019 07:25

Reply? Apply! The school is lovely and they had sports day so I watched some of the children from church run. They were quite excited and there was a lovely atmosphere.

ChicCroissant · 04/07/2019 09:13

Bower if you are signed off it will give you some rest and recovery - as well as thinking - time. I would seriously consider it, really Flowers The prospective new school sounds nice, I know it's a balancing act with the pension though if it is final salary so you are absolutely right to weigh it up carefully.

I have heard flat 7-up recommended before, she improved considerably after a sleep and there has only been the one episode of vomiting so I am hopeful the worst has passed. Seeing the orthodontist later tomorrow for a fix.

So we are at home for the day, good chance to declutter and sort! Another lovely day weather wise (good, because her uniform needs laundering ...) so I'm putting a positive spin on the day and hoping I don't go down with the bug myself, dettol everywhere Grin

And FB is working again today, what more does a girl need Grin

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/07/2019 09:40

chic as a one off incident fingers X for you she's not contagious!!
Bower I can't find enough words if sympathyFlowers

Dd2 had few hours sleep.cried couldn't chew her soggy shreddies.has mock Spanish speaking this morning.had text from "friendship group" her class hates her as class stirrer has pointed out she hasn't paid for sport day t shirtdespite the way it's always worked those that can absorb costs those that can't.she paid year 7year 8 she was absent,so didn't.paid last year so no idea where this girl got her facts from but it's blown up big time.her friendship group try defend her but didn't know whether had paid inprevious years.one has said if she says anything to this girl in retaliation they won't back her as don't want the extra shit on them so today she's walking into a lion's den feeling shite and alone and then straight to mo k exam.hapoy times.my heart broke for her this morning carrying weight of world(and all crap going on here.ds kicked off last night as she slept down with me so he had to stay upstairs) on her shoulders.i could cry everytime I think of her exhausted, pain fuelled, defeated looking faceSad

Anyhoo, feel crap.palpitations bad, anxious as fuck depressed enough to go to bed.not an option

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/07/2019 09:41

In cheerier news,I forgot to add scoutcats birthday.grumpy old git is 9 today and arseier by the day that with cone of shame to stop him eating at his bald spots he confined to barracks not out partying
Need pick him up a treat today!!

IVEgottheDECAF · 04/07/2019 09:43

Bloody hell zoo poor dd2. How did kids know who has/hasnt paid!? Are they just guessing?

Bower your gp would not offer to sign you off unless necessary. I would take it.

LivingInLaputa · 04/07/2019 10:23

Oh Bower :( I have no words really. Other than yes, just get out of there. You deserve more than this life when you’ve given so much to that place!

Aaaargh at broken brace Chic!

Zoo when will schools learn that putting pressure on parents to buy this tat is just plain horrible? Do they think £10 is nothing? It’s really not. I wouldn’t even spend that on a t-shirt that she WOULD wear lots TBH, unless it was a special one as a present, I could get two regular ones for that price. FFS.

Mega pain crash last night, DH had to tuck me in on the sofa with the baby on cushions on the floor!

Therapy was really good though, she’s already sent me an email with her summary of the session. I wrote loads in a notebook but correctly predicted that I’d forget stuff, so I’m adding in a “stuff I forgot” section :o even that is progress, as I remember when I used to keep a therapy diary in my teens (I saw someone at CAMHS for a few years) I would get really upset with myself if I forgot something and then had to write it in the wrong place. Trying to tackle my paralysing perfectionist tendencies :o I think I will even tell her that when I next see her (15th, then switching to monthly due to cost).

ta da for yesterday
Wrote home ed target list before I left early
Got to therapy
Wrote diary after
Bought earrings for DD (narrower posts) and managed to get them in
Had some friends round so the boys could play together (bloody hard work TBH but hey)

Right I’m off to sit in the garden to write my “forgotten stuff” bit (I have made notes on my phone as I thought of them) and then hopefully play piano for a bit if I have time before the others get back.

IVEgottheDECAF · 04/07/2019 10:45

Ta da

School run and shit
Yesterdays washing brought in Blush
Kitchen bin empty
Washer on

One worktop clear and clean

Waiting for deliver of the pram! Have an appointment with dc after school and need to go pick up bits of shopping and some birthday cards.

ChicCroissant · 04/07/2019 11:06

Bloody hell zoo, that has reminded me why DD doesn't have WhatsApp! I am sending your DD strength!

DH had a bit of a bug last week although he wasn't sick, it does feel a bit like I'm waiting to be struck down myself!

Still not done much, will press on Blush

ExpletiveDelighted · 04/07/2019 11:28

Morning all

Sorry I'm so late with this mornings insecure link Flight plan, launchpad, whatever

I have been forgetting the babysteps. Today is to start using post-it notes to plan your control journal. Our mission is to dust the skirting boards, ceiling corners and light fittings in the dining room. Thursday's focus is Errand Day and we are hopefully swishing and swiping through July.

Laputa - I'm glad the therapy was went well, sounds as though you've found a good one there.

Bower - I would seriously consider being signed off for this term now too. You have been treated appallingly at times and deserve better. I understand reservations about changing jobs and pension though, that is a hard one.

Stressy - I read that book years ago, it is funny, we camped a lot as a family when I was young, I was nodding along!

Ive - never admit on MN that you left your washing out overnight! You'll be telling us you didn't match peg colours to clothes next Grin

Chic how annoying about braces, hope it can be fixed quickly and that DD feels better soon.

Zoo - I wish I could take some of the load off your shoulders. Your poor DD2, teenagers can be vile. Happy Birthday to Scoutcat

Shannara - hope the chiropractic works for your DD.

Tada!

DCs off to school
Breakfast eaten
Two loads of washing on line
Plants watered
Various emails sent and received
Food out of freezer to defrost for tonight

Oh i KNOW expletive but it has happened a couple of times lately and you know what? We wore the clothes and no one died Blush I even caught myself last night watching my neighbour and wondering if she had the right idea as she took in her dry washing and put out more wet at 8pm .....

ExpletiveDelighted · 04/07/2019 12:23

Go for it! At this time of year you can put it out late at night and its dry by 9am ready for the next lot to go out. I've been known to put mine out just before going to bed and never had any problems with creepy crawlies.

Well my “forgotten stuff” section ran to three pages 🙄😂 so I’m glad I did it.

ta da
Spent some time continuing my therapy journal in the garden!
Played some Beethoven on the piano 😍
Phoned doctors for blood results - slightly anaemic again
Dug out the ferroglobin capsules from the cupboard and took one as they’re still in date. This is far preferable to the horrible tablets they’d prescribe for the princely sum of £9 so I declined those!
Tried phoning new family support worker but no answer so sent a text (I hate leaving voicemails)
Put mog the cat up to dry outside because Cagletini gave him a bath...
Went swimming with a friend
