Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the Flyaldy launchpad, which summarises everything you need to know on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly. Most of us do not follow it strictly but adapt it tou our individual circumstances.

Flylady flags up as a Not Secure website on some browsers, so best to avoid entering any personal information and take care with downloads/links.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual cake and wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Oh and not forgetting "habit of the month" which for July is : not published yet but likely to be Swish and Swipe

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Ooh also ta da
Filled in a survey for a project we did (it failed - the fungus didn’t grow! But you still get entered into a prize draw for doing the survey)

TooStressyTooMessy · 01/07/2019 21:50

Shannara, I’m afraid I gave up and threw our old pillows in the bin. I simply couldn’t find anywhere to take them (even charity shop, homeless charity or animal shelter). Hopefully you have better luck.

ExpletiveDelighted · 01/07/2019 22:39

I couldn't agree more about MN/internet and negative effect on mental health. And yet I have made so many friends on MN, it has been an endless source of useful information and general knowledge. But it's so easy to stumble on something that triggers anxiety. I am making a real effort with the Headspace app and mindfulness but it will take time.

Anyway, tada!

Swish and swipe.
Bit of tidying
DCs sent to school with most of the relevant stuff (both on trips today).
Work
Answered a few emails
Measured up for new blinds
Dinner
Tedious committee meeting

Thanks for doing the thread Expletive.

Welcome to Onthebrink and a big cheery wave 👋 to shannara good to have you back.

Well I have done nothing except animals fed and me fed.had a really shit day after a lovely weekend. Given another bloody job to do when I am ‘not needed’ bloody joke. I thought afterwards I should have said. “Stick the broom up my arse and I’ll make sure I sweep the floor on my way up and down the corridor.”
Can’t go into what happened but had two incidences no break from 8:30 and spoke to like 🤬swore at and spat at today. Ended up in tears.
On way home. Gave email to another school for information pack about another job, unfortunately a lower grade so less money which will affect my pension. The children are well behaved😀 having a walk around on Wednesday. It is that or retirement.
My wrist is throbbing. My head hurts from the stuff whirring round it. I have three reports to do about today, tomorrow. I’m fed up. I had a large gin, was looking forward to quiz night then it was cancelled so came up stairs and fell asleep on bed for two and a half hours now not tired. Don’t want to go to work tomorrow. I have to because it is my lovely Year 6 s and I haven’t much time left with them😢 otherwise I would call in sick.

I agree about Internet. It wastes a lot of time. I try to time restrict myself before going on. It does give me headspace from work though. I love this thread. I love hearing about you families and lives. I don’t ever mind the moans and groans.

I’ve i’ll take that! I was sent some photos and wish I could share cake pics but the name is on and as it is uncommon I can’t. It was pale pink with a cross and baby and name on top and pink frills at the bottom. I didn’t get any housework done and although the heat was creating havoc I was quite relaxed at times. Listened to a lot of radio four which I find great for cleaning as you get absorb in the topics, plays, panel games etc.

Better post this before it disappears.

Sorry things are so awful at work Bower.

Welcome Onthebrink - yes, the irony of a decluttering website filling your inbox with clutter, I think a few of us have been there! We used to put a warning about it in the OP of these threads.

OP posts:
Bowerbird5 · 02/07/2019 07:32

Had a really good sleep when I dropped off eventually. Plus the 2 1/2 hours between 8 and 10:30 pm so feel much better. Up in one minute and get sorted to go. Was thinking I would wake early and do a bit of housework but looks like it will be tomorrow as meeting today so home late. Might stick the vacuum over downstairs and S&S I can do before I leave.

Hope everyone has a more productive day than me. I just come home so knackered. School trips this week as well. Long days but hopefully enjoyable.

Onthebrink67 · 02/07/2019 08:09

Well yesterday didn’t go to plan- by the time I got home from work I was too tired to do much. Positives were tidy of living room, sorted recycling and filled up garden waste bin ready for collection . Must do better today but this is why my house is such a mess I never have the energy to spend my time on it 😞

TooStressyTooMessy · 02/07/2019 10:53

Morning all. I have been out and about today. Bit of waiting around so I have brought some paperwork, a parenting book and a book I have been trying to finish for 2 years!

ChicCroissant · 02/07/2019 12:13

Welcome onthebrink and hi to Shannara too.

Been out this morning, have swished one toilet and put cleaner down another to work while I was out. I'm on the babysteps thread on the Flylady UK FB group so shined my sink(s) yesterday as well.

Will do a bit of exercise now and catch up with the thread properly over lunch. So.much.ironing to do as well, can barely move for clean clothes!

LivingInLaputa · 02/07/2019 12:52

Hi all. Feeling mega grumpy today, think it’s PMT, so I’m off for a swim as I figured I may not be able to for a few days after 😂 (I do have a cup now but still a bit nervous about swimming with it!)

Home ed is REALLY hard work lately. Just lost all motivation. Really we would be winding down more at this time of year but due to having the visit a week today I am feeling the (pretty much entirely self inflicted) pressure to keep going and get more done and especially to complete more before we stop for the holidays.

The Caglets are tired and grumpy all the time too so they aren’t wanting to do much. We are doing so badly at the moment with stuff like sleep and food and the house is a mess, I can’t blame them for finding it difficult. Feel like a total fail TBH!

Anyway. Need to stop overthinking I, er, think 🧐😂 and must get ready and go out now or I’ll never get to the pool.

Bower that sounds really proper shit I’m sorry 💐

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/07/2019 16:32

Shannaratiger · 02/07/2019 19:49

Evening

Settling down to watch football.

Today
Took duvet and pillows to tip. Blush Can now see the bedroom floor and the airing cupboard water tank!
No washing - basket was fairly empty, so will be a full wash tomorrow.

Zoo remember all the induction meetings. Can't believe Ds has now finished year 7 and that Dd will be in year 11 in September. They are all growing up too fast.
Laputa hope swimming went well and helped reduce your stress.
onthebrink don't be too hard on yourself - babysteps.
Hope everyone has a good evening
Come On England!!

LivingInLaputa · 02/07/2019 21:20

What’s the book you’ve been trying to finish for two years stressy? I’m terrible for finishing books. I’m being evil with the Caglets and making them finish the Railway Children despite daily claims of how boring it is Blush trying to read enough each day to them to finish it by end of term.

I need to charge up my proper kindle (paperwhite) - I have a couple of books I was reading ages ago on the iPad app but surprise surprise I keep getting distracted. At least the kindle has no apps and stuff.

I swam quite quickly as I didn’t invite anyone with me :o so no chatting other than some affable fellows in the steam room (which is working again yay!) then met a friend in town and she gave me a lift back with the slide and water table that were going cheap in B&M. Very happy Cagletini!

Therapy tomorrow morning. EEEEEK. Excited though as I know it is needed. I bought a cheap notebook to use as a therapy diary.

ExpletiveDelighted · 02/07/2019 23:30

I haven't got much battery left and its late so can't chat much.

Shannara - I've got one going into year 11 too, gulp. Doing the rounds of college open evenings at the moment.

Living - I've hot at least half a dozen books on the go and haven't finished one for ages.

Tada!

S&S
Headspace
Cleaned inside of front door, took a while due to multiple glass panels and it hadn't been done for about a year. While I had my microfibre cloth out I did the hall mirror, dado rails, lightswitches and front room doorframe.
One load of washing.
Watered allotment and tomatoes in greenhouse
Went to optician
Various emails
Work
Took SS to football

Something lovely happened today. When I was little my grandma, who we lost many years ago, had a pretty little pot on her kitchen windowsill which I loved. I spotted an identical one in a charity shop window in town when I went to the opticians. £2.50 - bargain.

Bowerbird5 · 02/07/2019 23:40

Oh Laputathank you for those gorgeous photos of Cagletini. She is adorable. Well done for the swimming.
Shannara wish I could see my bedroom floor. You can on one side just not the door side. Clean washing to put away I was going to do it yesterday but lay on bed for 5 minutes and might have woken up two and a half hours later.
onthebrink I have the same problem drained from work and just want to relax.
Chic same here big basket of clean clothes and bedding. Ironed but I have some more to do. Got duvet cover changed this morning.
Put vacuum over this morning but it wouldn’t pick up discovered it was full. Didn’t have time to empty it. So just left it for tonight. Went to Sainsbury’s for a cup of tea before shopping and then the doctors. Very relaxing. Asked GP to look at my wrist while I was there and he booked me for an X-ray so up to A&E he booked me in so I wouldn’t have to wait so long. Spent three and three quarter hours. It was heaving. Splinted and appointment for fracture clinic if no better in three weeks it is an mri scan. Ho hum. No housework done couldn’t be bothered with food so I have had a small salad at work and tea and a bun for supper. Enjoying the tea.
Going to view another school tomorrow. They have a job going but it is pro rata £6,000 a year less than what I am on.

ExpletiveDelighted · 03/07/2019 06:41

Morning all,

Today's non-secure launchpad link

Wednesday is anti-procrastination day, the mission today is to spend 15 mins decluttering your dining room.

OP posts:
Stilllivinginazoo · 03/07/2019 06:42

Good luck at school bower
Laputa shes getting so big now but still utterly adorable 😍

Orthodontist with dd2 today

LivingInLaputa · 03/07/2019 07:41

Aw thanks :o

I’d hoped all the extra playtime outside would wear her out but that doesn’t seem to work.

Annoyed that I woke up early. Need to get up and have a shower and get my bag ready.

ta da for yesterday
A bit of home ed despite massive stress
Swimming
Bought garden stuff and sun cream
Made dinner for Cagletini (ordered for the rest of us Blush
Transferred earmarked savings to DH as he paid for the deposit on the kids’ assessments
Bought a notebook (actually two Blush the other one is dotty bullet journal style paper as I want to try habit tracking)

I’m quite nervous about meeting the therapist today but in a good way I think. I chose her as she was recommended locally by other autistic adults.

ExpletiveDelighted · 03/07/2019 08:18

Hope it goes well Living.

ChicCroissant · 03/07/2019 09:09

Morning, just about to go out for the first half of the day so will see you at lunchtime.

Good luck with the therapist Laputa, can be a time of mixed feelings - hope it goes well for you and she is the right one for you.

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/07/2019 12:09

Bower sorry to see you are having such a crap time work wise again!

Zoo DS1 has already had induction days at high school and enjoyed it. In form group with best friends and made couple new friends too.

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/07/2019 13:15

That's good I've this school makes point ensuring no friends in classes to encourage a clean fresh start and as all girl's no overconfident bossy/bullying from beginning the classes are picked to give a mix of age, ethnicity, different hobbies etc to get the girls out of comfort zones and breaking down ideals and prejudices.ime(so far) it works well.how lil zoo fairs remains to be seen as not very good socially and doesn't like not being in control/feeling like she's made a mistake

Bowerbird5 · 03/07/2019 13:43

Thanks I've. I'm trying not to post anything.
The other school is lovely, the Head was surprised to see me because I know him and he didn't realise it was me though the secretary had my name she can't have said. It is a church school.I've had enough.I would feel really awful if I didn't get the job.I'm thinking today I might just pack it in altogether.I've lost confidence again. Maybe this time it is time to get out. I was going to stick it out until now hoping voluntary redundancy came my way. But it didn't.
I can't settle to anything today.
