Fledglings Fly as we reach July

Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the Flyaldy launchpad, which summarises everything you need to know on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly. Most of us do not follow it strictly but adapt it tou our individual circumstances.

Flylady flags up as a Not Secure website on some browsers, so best to avoid entering any personal information and take care with downloads/links.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual cake and wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Oh and not forgetting "habit of the month" which for July is : not published yet but likely to be Swish and Swipe

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

I'm actually flying on Wednesday so in a panic packing and sorting out work before I leave.

Dh couldn't find his new passport but then suddenly could.

Discovered our carry-on cases met last years measurement but are an inch too big for the new regs - what a carry-on indeed.

I don't like holidays anyway because I'm a homebody. On this occasion I'm technically going home to my home country - but I haven't been there since i emigrated over a decade ago and in any case all my family have moved abroad. So it's going to be a bit strange.

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/07/2019 17:45

I've at this stage of pregnancy if you were doing anything other than dragging yourself along I'd think you had your drawers over your maternity leggings and a cape on(wondermum)

I follow deliciously Ella on Instagram and she had her baby(38/9wks I believe)yesterday.spitting broody feathers again.at my age it's nothing more than a pipe dream, but it seems I can't stop.i doubt I ever willSad

IVEgottheDECAF · 28/07/2019 18:34

Zoo just try and remember the horror of pregnancy. I am so done. There are 39 days until my due date and it feels like forever.

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/07/2019 19:42

I've I was one of those irritating cows that "glowed" rather than was covered in huge zits.dd1 I had nothing but bit backache last few weeks(she was 8lb2oz),dd2 couple queasy days, feeling bit faint/dizzy with low blood pressure (fixed by ready salted crisp and vanilla coke!)D's I had a week feeling bit queasy, touch sciatica last couple weeks.lil zoo 3weeks feeling like any food smelt awful and bit hip pain, not enough to stop me in my tracks...labours I had two without any drugs,dd2 was back to back and I yowled like a wolf but still handled it.ds emergency section, lil zoo planned c sect..nothing powerful enough to break my broodinessSad
I always carried mine over(well cookedGrin) - 10 days actually.if D's hadnt been induced I guessing he would ve been an Xmas day baby!!

IVEgottheDECAF · 28/07/2019 19:45

Pfft. What a show off! Shock

All i have do is sit on the sofa for ten min and i loose the ability to move my legs Blush

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/07/2019 20:14

Lisette1940 · 28/07/2019 20:19

Oh dear I've that's awful. I only had one myself. Got ill with thyroid problems when first TTC. Had to stop and wait a year. Got better, had ds and never got round to having another!

ExpletiveDelighted · 29/07/2019 08:18

Morning all,

As promised I've been over to the launchpad. Today we are in the living room and family room if you have one and we are sofa-diving. Home blessing as it's Monday and the babystep is to go to the Flylady Pamper mission (I did not know this existed) and exfoliate out knees and elbows www.flylady.net/d/br/author/pamper/

sorry have been AWOL, have been so busy, needless to say very little flying has gone on although I have had two wins - finally cleaned ds windowsills they were disgusting and I made the dc banana pancakes for their supper yesterday which went down a treat! I've never made them before, great way to use up old bananas.

I think my plan today is to stay at home and get some stuff done, no work for me today so that's a bonus. Need to go to the post office but not sure I can be bothered with that today...

Hope everyone okay, I haven't really caught up completely. I'm not surprised you're struggling ive you've had a hard pregnancy Flowers

Bowerbird5 · 29/07/2019 11:25

Pfft. What a show off Grin Agree I've. I was sick the whole 9mths with DS1 and huge. Difficult pregnancy at end and EMCS. SCUBA.
DS 2 nausea for about 5mth then fine. Scatica. Birth also back to back and bloody big head. 9lb 3oz.
DS3 had trauma getting to hospital 35miles away and no ambulance available. DH away.Plans fell through re transport. Laboured for several hours in local health centre. Luckily GP was obstetric trained.Popped out just as DH arrived. He told everyone it was easy.
DD troubled pregnancy and birth. Plans went out the window. No more babies! Was at college full time till six weeks before then three days a week.. Had her week after we left. Didn't show till 6mths even tutor who had been a midwife didn't know till 5 1/2mths!

Had a 6ft 7 1/2 stone friend who shelled hers like peas. Four in four years 11mths and last one was 45 minutes from start to finish. She had him in the car park of the hospital!

I hope yours goes that easy but not in the car park, I've Grin

Foxes also have yukky kitchen window sill where flies kamakazi into window and die.

So best laid plans.
Was meant to get up early but didn't.
However I was productive yesterday.

BRAGS- Sitting room completely tidy and clean including sofa dive...pah fly lady I did that last week.

Neighbours - he keeps walking past and looks in window every time. I shut the curtains. Have lovely lacey bedroom curtain so going to put that up but need a pole.I know I had one but DH probably didn't know what it was and threw it out. So need to purchase one today.
Cleaned all of kitchen as been caught out with her friend once or twice. Last time kitchen smelt fantastic and I had masses of biscuits out cooling as I was baking for last day at school for YR6. Time before messy worktops and laundry pile on floor. She runs a cleaning company.
So I will stick to boudoir and then dining room instead. I used my journal to plan till Wednesday. I am enjoying the clean bits. I plan to have it all done by fortnight except maybe craft room as probably take a fortnight to do it.

So far
fed cat

had baked croissants
tidied 1 1/2 drawers

To do
dust bedroom. finish drawer.
Clean shower screen and wash floor.
Start on dining room.

Garden plant new plants if not persisting down. Admire garden.

Buy pole and might need to pop into the Range to see if any plant bargains.
Lunch M&S bits 3 for £7 and salad.

Bowerbird5 · 29/07/2019 11:26

OOPs that was long sorry. Feeling a bit brighter.

ChicCroissant · 29/07/2019 15:27

Have been out today meeting up with a friend and had a lovely time, the holidays are going too well! Need to work on packing and planning for the end of the week. DH out this evening so will have time to spend with DD and time to get house stuff done if I actually move off the sofa

Bowerbird5 · 29/07/2019 16:59

———————————————————-> pokes chic then self as also on the sofa. I was on a roll then had to wait ages for someone to come out of a meeting and phone me and lost the will. Upstairs phone isn’t working so stopped boudoir. Have a very clean and tidy kitchen though.😂

🎟 chic for you AFTER you done your chores.

Bowerbird5 · 29/07/2019 17:00

I’ve made base to cottage pie and some spaghetti Bol sauce😋

TooStressyTooMessy · 29/07/2019 21:28

Hello all. The exhaustion (for me!) of the summer holidays is real! Just eating tea now, DH was working late, should pack lunches as won’t have much time in the morning but not sure I can face it. Plus I have to sew an activity badge on. Aaaagggh. I tried to have a day in the house like you foxes to get stuff done. Gave up this afternoon and we beefed up going swimming.

On a different note, has anyone ever gone on the London Eye? I started a thread but no responses yet.

ChicCroissant · 29/07/2019 21:58

I've been on the London Eye, I'll have a look for the thread.

TooStressyTooMessy · 29/07/2019 22:07

Thanks Chic Smile.

Bowerbird5 · 29/07/2019 22:58

No, I’ve seen it but plans went wrong for our day in London due to a tragic accident we were delayed. We arrived at midnight instead of 2pm.

Changed a few jobs around. Will probably regret not planting out as rain forecast tomorrow. It was lovely tonight but I was cooking and didn’t want soil in fingernails. Need to work at the speed I do at work.
Keep finding things more interesting. Gone to bed earlier in order to be up and doing in the morning.

ChicCroissant · 29/07/2019 23:56

For the Tesco vouchers, the timed slot is usually the time you start queuing.

We did like the London Eye, my DH had been on it before and is not good with heights so at the top, he just sat very still on the seat in the middle. About 5 mins after it started, DD lying on the floor noticed a funfair in the distance so the time seemed to pass slowly for her - she did like it though.

Can also recommend Tesco vouchers for the tourist bus and you get a one-way river trip as well with the bus. Have also used them for the Tower of London, Tower Bridge tour, Sea Life aquarium, Madame Tussauds and other stuff I have probably forgotten Blush The year we went to Paris they even had offers there and we used them (no longer do anything in Paris). We haven't used them for the Eye, we bought a ticket for that on the tourist bus that we'd used vouchers for

ExpletiveDelighted · 30/07/2019 07:16

We've been on the Eye but it was a which ago and I can't remember what tickets we had. The queue did move quite quickly though. I'm not great with heights but found it ok so long as I looked out (above the handrail) rather than down. We don't shop at Tesco, there isn't one near us, I do try and find vouchers elsewhere - I found a site called which had some good deals and we used their vouchers to go on an after dark open top bus one Christmas to see the West End Lights, it was amazing (but cold!).

Today we are supposed to be tackling high level dust and cobwebs in our living rooms and the babystep is to check your calendar for August birthdays and plan cards/gifts.

I am trying to get excited about holiday packing, it's not my favourite thing to do but hey ho.

Still not much flying going on Blush

Lisette1940 · 30/07/2019 15:57

Zip completely went on one case so emergency case shopping today. Am going to leave the house tidy for when we return.

TooStressyTooMessy · 30/07/2019 19:33

Thanks for London Eye advice Smile. Hope you got a suitcase sorted Lisette.

Minimal flying here too as I was at work today and then working the next two days.

I’ll set up the new thread tomorrow evening. If I don’t by 9pm or so, please someone PM me and I’ll hopefully see the little message indicator on here when I come on MN and it will remind me. All the days seem different in the summer holidays!

Bowerbird5 · 30/07/2019 19:35

Hi

Went on errand this morning then to get a curtain pole as noisy neighbour keeps looking in as he goes past. This is the one that doesn’t speak to us now over summer house. DH thinks I am getting a bit paranoid. There is no reason for him to look in but I have caught him about three times when I have been sat with a cuppa. So I have a cafe curtain up and hope that it is high enough. Ha ha he just went past.

Today
Cleaned shower doors so that is the whole bathroom done from top to bottom.
Kitchen just needed a quick wipe around and I bought a new mop so will wash floor after tea. I have been in and out to garden as it is forecast storms. So planted seven plants and picked several pounds of black currants. Been bitten by two wasps. I have had to go to A&E before now so just waiting and watching.

Spaghetti Bol for tea.
