Fledglings Fly as we reach July

ExpletiveDelighted · 30/06/2019 22:19

Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the Flyaldy launchpad, which summarises everything you need to know on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly. Most of us do not follow it strictly but adapt it tou our individual circumstances.

Flylady flags up as a Not Secure website on some browsers, so best to avoid entering any personal information and take care with downloads/links.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual cake and wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Oh and not forgetting "habit of the month" which for July is : not published yet but likely to be Swish and Swipe

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Ooh that’s cool stressy I’ve not watched all of s1 yet as finding concentration a bit tricky atm but I liked what I’ve seen so far! I think there might be another series of workin moms on Netflix too.

I’m starting to get back into reading which is good

Lisette1940 · 25/07/2019 21:35

Change of oil at the vets Toostressy 😉? Rogue r there. Made me giggle.

TooStressyTooMessy · 25/07/2019 21:46

Ha! Just seen that Lisette Grin.

Yes Laputa there is another Workin Moms series Grin. Plus a second series of The Letdown coming. I will need all those to get me through the summer holidays Hmm. Planning on starting Better Things series 2 tonight once I get the laundry taken out.

LivingInLaputa · 25/07/2019 22:04

Oh the letdown was awesome too! I also liked motherland on bbc

Bowerbird5 · 26/07/2019 09:03

Morning
Car at vets. I have had some like that.Grin
Didn't get as much done as planned as I drifted from one job to another avoiding bedroom.
I did sweep path and summerhouse.
I got more done but not what was planned. Also had a snack tea. Bits of salad stuff and I had boiled eggs the day before so had a curry mayonaise one mmm.

Plan today is to start boudoir.
Dust all levels and do one drawer out. Hopefully rearranging will mean I have room for some of the washing from the two baskets sitting up there.
Paint Ikea small drawers for summerhouse as no room in re-designed kitchen.

ChicCroissant · 26/07/2019 11:03

Morning, I obviously didn't hit post on my response yesterday - I liked the hillbilly aircon idea, but can't remember what else I said apart from a complete lack of flying

Been out shopping this morning, much cooler here today. DD has enjoyed her first week off school, she's had a few stomach pains but they seem to be easing today. Had my hair cut this week too.

Got some nice things lined up for next week and need to iron start the holiday packing lists. Few admin things left to do as well.

I have been really good at watering the plants outside, but need to give the ones inside a bit of a bonus watering as well now.

Catch you later.

ExpletiveDelighted · 26/07/2019 17:23

Well, I have had a weird day. Up at 4.30 this morning to see off DH and DS, DH was taking DS to the airport to catch a flight to Germany as part of an organised group - flight cancelled. Several hours of phone calls and texts later they both arrive home, the group leader had managed to arrange coach/ferry instead but the timings have been shifting about all afternoon, back and forth to the meeting point and the supermarket for snacks, finally waved him off from the end of the road half an hour ago, he's been surprisingly OK about it all (being autistic unexpected changes aren't always easy). They are going to be so tired tomorrow though.

So, bugger all done at home today, a tiny bit of decluttering in between coming and going but really it's been a token effort and I'm tired now.

ChicCroissant · 26/07/2019 22:46

Wow, well done to your DS Expletive - that would unsettle anyone! Well done to the leader who managed to rebook the travel as well.

Not much flying done here either, but DD has had a good first week of the summer holidays.

Better get the few bits of laundry off the line although it would probably be OK outside tonight!

ExpletiveDelighted · 27/07/2019 09:02

Well, after more delays getting across the channel they are about halfway there. I've had random texts from a not-getting-much-sleep DS during the night.

It's raining here so nice and cool today. The house is a tip. I went to see a friend during the week whose house would not be out of place in a homes magazine which was a but depressing. Decluttering therefore beckons.

ChicCroissant · 27/07/2019 09:17

Glad they are progressing on their journey, Expletive, my DD had a very long coach journey through Europe this year - in fact, we are flying to Europe later in the week so I'm hoping things calm down before then!

Got up. DD, for the last couple of days, has started getting dressed straight away which makes such a difference I'm still in my dressing gown so I should follow her lead.

Our usual cooked breakfast beckons, also need to work on creating a CV as I want to go back to work and have seen an interesting job (I haven't worked for years so it may be a long haul tbh!).

Catch you later!

ExpletiveDelighted · 27/07/2019 09:57

I'm certainly hoping they will calm down before next weekend and the trip home! Good luck with the CV.

Borrows blinkers.
ED what a carry on. Your DS has done really well it would stress most adults out.

Feeling very lazy.

Have cleaned most of bathroom. everything on shelves washed just need to do shower tray and wash the floor. Then that is second room completed.
Yesterday I did dust boudoir in the evening. Still need to sort my pet hate - putting clothes away. Need to sort drawers. Still has winter stuff in.I need to get into routine of changing over but weather so changeable up north. Fresh today as pouring with rain and I was going to go to an Arty/ Crafty thing. It is on tomorrow so may wait until then. Hopefully lass rain.
I did paint drawers yesterday and really enjoyed it.Need a second coat on some. Painted some photo frames from bathroom to freshen them up. Need to do a chest of drawers but cant move them by myself and they need sanding first.

zoo need some of your cooking inspiration. I need to go shopping but can't be bothered. I made prawns from freezer Smile with carrot, pepper, onions, ginger and noodles last night. Tonight can have lamb chops, new potatoes, carrots and French beans but need something for lunch. Lettuce went to chicken.

Bowerbird5 · 27/07/2019 13:06

Chic good luck with cv. Luckily I kept a copy and handed that in with application.I didn't realise I had worked in so many places. It is a good idea to keep copies and probably to update them as you can't always remember.
I realised last weekend that I should have included some more information at the interview that showed I was given responsibility with SEN paperwork. It was a couple of years back and it never crossed my mind at the time.
Good Luck with application.

ChicCroissant · 27/07/2019 13:43

I'm wondering if I have an old CV on one of the computers or our backup storage, it is so long since I worked it's going to be hard to do from scratch!

ExpletiveDelighted · 27/07/2019 21:14

They've arrived, finally.

Tada!

2 carrier bags to charity shop 10 paperback books bought
Tidying, general decluttering

Quiet on here today 🤫

ED bet you’re relieved.
CC hope you find one. Much easier.

I have the window open and can hear the lambs bleating. And the rain. And a train.

I found some dried pasta while looking for something else. DH still doesn’t know where things live. So I had that with salami and half a jar of standby sauce.
So I still haven’t revved myself up into work mode. However I have got some things done. The cat has been groomed a lot I nearly have enough hair to make another 🐈 I have cleaned all the shelves in the bathroom and everything on them. Shower tray, loo and basin. Painted some photo frames that house photos of famous beaches. Used up a candle and can now use the jar/pot which was behind my thinking about two years ago. I was given a lovely present of some cleanser, toner and moisturiser so I am going to use it to house cotton balls for the toner. It has a cork lid. Clever Sainsbury’s.
Vacuum all of downstairs.
Washed up x3
Cleaned around kitchen. Put things away.
Washed out bin.
Researched a few things.
Haven’t done boudoir.🤬🤔

Need to make myself lists and time. Wasting too much time.
Day out tomorrow. Mass then arty thing. Not great in the rain I should have gone on Friday when it was dry.literally had buckets of ☔️ today. Hi

ChicCroissant · 27/07/2019 23:02

Good work today Bower I like the sound of the posh jar for beauty purposes, that's the kind of thing I always mean to do more of.

I need to have an epic list making session tomorrow and then actually do some of the stuff on them! We are away later this week and have checked in online tonight - yay!

Will listen to YouTube videos made by people more organisationally advanced than me whilst drinking wine and not actually doing anything constructive

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/07/2019 06:42

chic listening to organised people is still progress as you have intentionWink
Bower fab list also love recycling jar idea
E.D Phew.hope after all that he has a wonderful time!!

TooStressyTooMessy · 28/07/2019 06:55

I love listening to YouTube videos of organised people too Grin.

List making session sounds an excellent idea Chic. Hope you find a CV somewhere. Wow, what a start to that trip Expletive, glad they have now arrived.

Waves to zoo, Bower and everyone else.

Must get up.

Bowerbird5 · 28/07/2019 09:43

Good idea about YouTube also watch hoarders programme. I am always more productive after watching one. It must be the thought that things are creeping up and I might turn into one.

Need to make a list for tomorrow and likewise Chic I need to do more of it.
Just do minimum on Sundays. Going to clear one hot spot in bedroom and make bed.

Jar is blue and white ceramic one ‘shore’ glad you approve. I was going to put some other stuff in but because I had just done my face I thought 💡 cotton balls.

Found some chicken legs in the freezer so defrosted in fridge overnight and will have one with leftover new potatoes, carrot, broccoli and beans. Second will do for meal tomorrow.

Will pop back in tonight.
👋to everyone.

TooStressyTooMessy · 28/07/2019 10:51

It is about 15 degrees cooler here than on Thursday!

ExpletiveDelighted · 28/07/2019 10:56

Thanks all for comments about DS. I think he's still a bit rattled as he keeps texting me with questions, in the end I've told him to put his phone away and just text me tonight, I can't micro-manage him from home. He's managed on other residentials when he wasn't allowed a phone. I'm glad he had it for the journey though.

I had big plans for Flying his morning and haven't done any of them. Apart from put a load of washing on, I have been faffing about on the computer, some stuff for school (PTFA) and I am setting up a password manager.

Also I must apologise for lack of links / Flying guidance this last week, I think we are all in the same place more or less, muddling through the school holidays, I will up my game a bit for the last few days starting tomorrow, promise.

OP posts:
TooStressyTooMessy · 28/07/2019 11:30

Don’t worry Expletive, I am definitely in a muddling through the holidays place! In fact I am actually concerned I will forget to start the new thread for August Confused. All the days seem so different in summer holidays!

IVEgottheDECAF · 28/07/2019 14:56

Im not even muddling along! Im just dragging myself from one day to the next!
