Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the Flyaldy launchpad, which summarises everything you need to know on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly. Most of us do not follow it strictly but adapt it tou our individual circumstances.

Flylady flags up as a Not Secure website on some browsers, so best to avoid entering any personal information and take care with downloads/links.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual cake and wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Oh and not forgetting "habit of the month" which for July is : not published yet but likely to be Swish and Swipe

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Hello all! Well we made it to the end of term. Also had to deal with nits Hmm.

Have in-laws here this weekend then the LONG summer holidays stretching ahead of us.

Have managed to put a load of laundry on and do a basic morning routine this morning. Off out for the day now. The kids’ bickering has started Hmm.

I have tried to catch up on the thread. Impossible to catch up with everyone so I will just leave BrewCakeFlowers out for everyone.

ChicCroissant · 20/07/2019 15:32

They didn't have home visits before birth in my day thankfully so it is all new to me.

Yay, last regular activity this morning and the summer holidays are ours! We are away in a fortnight as well, and DH is away with work next week so need to finish his ironing at least I didn't do any yesterday

Currently a nit-free zone but my head is itching just reading about them. Vile creatures.

Lisette1940 · 20/07/2019 15:41

I had an antenatal home visit. We his the wine bottles before she came Grin though I don't drink during pregnancy. She was chatting away about giving baby a 'bosie'. Neither me nor DH had a clue what she was talking about and only found out afterwards that it's Scot Doric for a cuddle.

Lisette1940 · 20/07/2019 15:41

Hid not his

IVEgottheDECAF · 21/07/2019 07:35

I am debating cancelling the home visit. I mean i dont need it. And i cba. But i feel a bit like someone might question it as i have cancelled a few HV things now e.g. dc4s two year check up.

foxessocks · 21/07/2019 10:11

Is everyone on summer hols now? We have two days left, I'm quite looking forward to the break now (although I may change my mind!)

I've maybe just get it over with just so you don't wonder whether anyone is questioning it although I don't suppose they would! I feel for you though, I don't remember the home visits being helpful!

I had a night away from the dc last night, went out with my mum to the theatre it was very civilised Grin , just stopped off home via the supermarket and accidentally found myself in the cafe...just savouring last bit of freedom as we have friends over later with their dc so it'll be noisy.

Hope everyone okay

Lisette1940 · 21/07/2019 13:06

Two Weeks in Foxes! Sports camp this next week, then a weeks' holiday. After that it's the countdown to school and getting new shoes etc.

Successfully replaced seals on the shower and one of the runners. I'm a very ratty diyer and was short with DH - something I need to work on.

foxessocks · 21/07/2019 15:23

You're already in the thick of it then Lisette!

Dd has written a note to my pregnant friend which says "I hope your baby likes you" 😂 honestly I LOVE her writing it cracks me up. Her thank you note to her teacher said "I hope your new class like you" so there's a theme!

LivingInLaputa · 21/07/2019 16:51

I have nothing of use to say ATM so here is something that made me laugh yesterday. We had to go into Cex to exchange DD’s phone which broke, and we had to use their WiFi... I was amused by what they’d called it 😂

ChicCroissant · 21/07/2019 17:30
Grin

foxes love the notes!

Yes, finished on Friday so first official day of the holidays tomorrow. Should be a chilled one. DH is away as well, so it's the house of girl now until midweek.

Got a list of people to contact, really must not slip into overchill mode myself Grin

Lisette1940 · 21/07/2019 19:10

🤣 unprotected Cex.

I'm Malcolm Tucker on acid at the moment Foxes.

LivingInLaputa · 21/07/2019 19:25

Argh crap my crown has loosened a bit. Not sure what’s worse, the fact I’ll most likely need that tooth out now (knew this was a risk when I had it) or the fact I will have to admit that no I haven’t seen the hygienist yet like I was meant to six months ago 😰😫😳 procrastination biting me in the bum again

TooStressyTooMessy · 21/07/2019 21:17

Oh no Laputa Sad.

Grin at unprotected Cex.

Massive The thick of it fans here lisette Grin. I will try to channel your love of the summer holidays Chic Confused.

Love the notes foxes Smile. Yes, summer holidays here.

Big wing flaps to all. I am currently decluttering an open bottle of tonic water with some gin Grin.

ExpletiveDelighted · 21/07/2019 21:57

Stressy - I've just decluttered a bag of crisps Blush.

Foxes - that reminds me of a time when a colleague was reitireing, another colleague who was prone to saying the wrong things wrote in his leaving card "hope you enjoy the rest of your life" - as if there wasn't much of it left, ooops.

Living - Grin at the wifi code, Sad about the crown.

Today I have been mostly sitting by the side of a swimming pool chatting with the other swimming parents, luckily the heatwave hasn't kicked in yet or it would have been unbearable. Then home for dinner, tidying, more laundry, and an hour at the allotment. I picked some raspberries and stopped to eat them on the way home, there is a green with a bench on it that I pass on the way home and it is lovely in the evening, it has a few trees on the far side and the low evening sun lights them all up. Had a nice 15 mins just sitting there.

Work tomorrow, DCs will be at home, it's a bit weird now they are too old for childcare. I imagine DD will stay in bed till about 10 and DS will be bouncing around, going out and generally using up some excess energy. We've got a moderately busy week in store, a few extra-curriculars are still going on in the evenings, I've got a night out, and DS is off to scout camp at the weekend so we have a kit list to check and pack.

Just off to check the launchpad, just in case anyone is inclined to step out of the naughty corner, back in a mo....

ExpletiveDelighted · 21/07/2019 22:02

OK, I have found the Flight Plan instead of the launchpad, same difference

So, it is Monday tomorrow, that means home blessing hour. We will be in Zone 4, the master bedroom where your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to spend 15 mins removing anything that doesn't belong in there. Babystep 22 is building your control journal.

OP posts:
ChicCroissant · 21/07/2019 22:07

Some sterling liquid decluttering going on here, I will add some wine to the total Grin

LivingInLaputa · 21/07/2019 22:12

Ooh I sort of fit in with the control journal thing. I’m setting up my habit tracker type thing this evening. Just starting with a few things which I’ll try tracking until we go away early August. It’s less scary knowing it’s a trial run.

Going to PM zoo as she’s not here.

ExpletiveDelighted · 21/07/2019 22:17

Yes, I was wondering about Zoo Flowers

OP posts:
IVEgottheDECAF · 22/07/2019 07:13

I hope zoo is ok

We broke up for summer here on Friday. Need to find things to keep the DC busy that i can manage without aggravating the SPD. Also need to finish baby prep, and want to do back to school prep by mid August incase (fingers crossed) baby is an early arrival!

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/07/2019 07:46
IVEgottheDECAF · 22/07/2019 07:51

foxes , zoo I am kind of thinking atm that i should just have them do the bloody home visit, get it out of the way and use the deadline to motivate my arse!

zoo it seems very unfair that you are having to drag around poorly lil zoo because of some busy bodies rules! Also a shame if she misses her school leavers stuff! I dont think i could control myself with your DP if i were you. I would be tearing him a new one!

Glad to hear from you zoo

I need to make a banana loaf before the heatwave truly hits because I won't be cooking then!

Dh has taken the dc to the dentist so I've got a couple of hours home alone

To do
Change dc beds
Some sorting in the living room (it's chaos)
Banana bread
Cook dinner which is a veggie curry (again need to get this out the way while it's below 30 degrees!)

And hopefully have five minutes to sit down before they all come back?!

TooStressyTooMessy · 22/07/2019 17:51

Good to hear from you zoo, sorry things are difficult. Meant to say Ive, I’d say just get the home visit done and out of the way but of course it’s up to you.

Had a long day shopping in town today Hmm. Had said to DDs we could do some summer holiday shopping / new bags for school and I thought best to get it over with!
