Fledglings awaiting April organisation... and a plan - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the April Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

April’s habit is usually making your bed which is a nice easy one Smile.

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Also a huge thank you to Chic for a lovely March thread as always.

Muffins warm from oven with vitalite got thumbs up!

Good luck caglets on grading!!

Lost patience with D's as he's on one today and I'm feeling rough.bad mum awards in post,he can't help it poor little bean

Chic glad she's on the mend!

Must start tea soon for little ones.i think I need the fed, watered and upstairs relatively early tonight so I can just sit quietly..

foxessocks · 03/04/2019 18:59

And we've lost teddy again 🤦

I feel like I am losing everything at the moment! Is my mind the last thing to go?!

I'm quietly holding dh responsible this time as I have no recollection of ds taking teddy with him on the school run but dh was with us and he says he thinks he had him. I'm hoping he'll be at the school tomorrow...

What a day! What a week actually!

TooStressyTooMessy · 03/04/2019 19:01

Oh zoo, I think all mums (except the very rare sickeningly perfect ones who I couldn’t be friends with anyway) get bad mum awards sometimes. It doesn’t sound as if you deserve one at all though Flowers.

Chic YY to the using pockets of time. In fact, I was reading a while back a thread on here about the organised mum method and apparently that is something she does very effectively.

I’m off out now so will post a link for the launchpad in a bit.

Morning!
Busy day here today
Foxes hope bear is found!!

TooStressyTooMessy · 04/04/2019 07:03

Xposted with you yesterday foxes. Any joy finding bear?

OP posts:
foxessocks · 04/04/2019 07:14

No he hasn't turned up yet but we are now not convinced he had him at the school so he might be at home ...I'm losing the will to keep looking for the damn thing!!!

foxessocks · 04/04/2019 07:16

I've already done today's mission so I'm going to try and do some detail cleaning in the porch / dining table area.

Errand / appointment day - hair cuts later on.

Plus daily routine and work this morning...and find teddy (hopefully!)

Hope you all have nice days Smile I keep thinking it's Friday which is a bit disappointing!

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/04/2019 07:39

foxes you need to look for something else. It is that law of sod that you never find the thing you are looking for if you look for it. Or apply the rule that there is a chocolate treat for the child that finds it...

Life is tough. I am no longer swimming just sinking. Slowly, painfully with lungs burning from lack of air. must keep plodding. Must keep plodding. Must keep plodding....

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/04/2019 07:55

Foxes I tend to be like hills in that I find something when looking for something else

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/04/2019 08:47

Just checked the (big) load D's clothes I washed and hung on airer yesterday.its no drier than it was when hung it out
Thus house truly is a fridge, will need have heating on loads today so it don't end up smelling fusty and having to be re washed
Lil zoo left in full strop mode with dp walking her in,dd2 snapping about someone walks with being an arse.it was a fun here this morning
Is it nearly bedtime yet??!!

foxessocks · 04/04/2019 09:19

hills FlowersBrew sorry things are tough

Found teddy at the school Hmm let's see where he loses him today!

Got drenched on school run by freak hail / rain down pour, had to change ds into his spare trousers when we got to nursery. On the bright side, I've just found out I can't do any of my work this morning due to IT issues so I have an unexpected morning to myself. Going to whizz through the housework then have a hot cross bun I think!

ChicCroissant · 04/04/2019 09:28

Teddy seems to be a bit of a bolter, foxes. Perhaps a harness or backpack build-a-bear style might be a good security measure? Bear-wearing!

Absolutely bucketing down here too, possible with sleet although it's not sticking. Will reduce laundry load here today as same drying issues as zoo (not everything can be tumbled) and do some lots of ironing instead.

Little minutes - I read about that years ago, Sandra Felton (Messies Anonymous) talks in her books about using those 2 minutes waiting for things to boil/ping/whatever to do a small job. I emptied the dishwasher this morning waiting for DD to clean teeth and come downstairs. It's a small thing but makes such a difference!

You may see a trend here of reading about housekeeping, but the actual doing of it ...

TooStressyTooMessy · 04/04/2019 09:52

Hi all, am at work today (I have to show my face occasionally!) so will be on later.

OP posts:
foxessocks · 04/04/2019 10:01

chic excellent idea re teddy! Grin
I do the little pockets of time thing too, kettle boiling is a big one it's amazing how much stuff you can do in that little bit of time!
My problem is actually the bigger bits of time i.e. big jobs like cleaning windows I never do because it takes too long and it's boring.

I think my detailed cleaning in the dining "area" i.e. one end of the living room will be to clean the windows actually.

Shadycorner · 04/04/2019 10:37

Ha! Love the idea of FoxTeddy as a bolter Grin Grin (Not if it upsets your ds though of course Foxes!)

Agree about making the most of the little minutes

...when I CBA
...but am really struggling with motivation atm
...just when I really need 2BA!!!
Aargh!
Confused

Sorry it's such tough going currently Hills Brew Cake.

Hope TKD went well last night for Caglets Cag!

Have a good day at work Toostressy and thank you for link!

Thank you Bower glad antibiotics have done their job! Great job in your boudoir yesterday btw Star Star. I need to copy your good example! Sending "find it" vibes to you from across the channel!

Yes, sadly 🐎 one hour away. And anyway, since he has been living the high life out on the prairie with his copains , he's got a bit "big for his boots" and we've had to go right back to the beginning with ground work. Typical teen eh! Agree about the therapeutic de-stressing affects of being around horses in general though (calm ones!). Hoping to do more of that with DD at Easter God willing.

Flaps to all!

Cagliostro · 04/04/2019 13:20

I am shattered! Helping DSD with essay again this morning (I went to bed earlier though while DH took over) doing more of DS’ horrible DLA form and then a 90 minute phone call 😱 this was preparation for the assessments they are having later in the year (dyslexia etc). Totally mentally drained now but have to finish the DLA form today. Ugh. Lunch first. And I am totally having a takeaway tonight when the others are at St John Ambulance. I have earned it :o

Bowerbird5 · 04/04/2019 14:58

Hi,
Back in the boudoir. How does so much dust get in there? Carefully moved chest of drawers to clean under. Yuk!
Used vacuum for the huge spider’s dusty web behind the wardrobe. I didn’t move that but as it is on an angle can just get the nozzle behind it.
Got distracted looking for something for baby sis. So I haven’t finished yet. Definitely towards the end though. I need to find homes for the clothing etc then I am done. Been back to dentist and all ok now so appointment in October. Yeah. I really like new dentist so gentle compared to past treatment.
Also think it is funny about teddy being a bolster. Maybe a Paddington type label attached to return this bear. Glad you found him.

Bowerbird5 · 04/04/2019 16:48

Going to do 15 minutes in the hall near door.

Cagliostro · 04/04/2019 16:51

Wahoooo I have achieved stuff today.

DSD’s essay sent off (I gave it a final grammar check, she is severely dyslexic)

Bibic (assessment) phone interview done and I just phoned back to book their actual assessments... in August! Eeeek

DLA form FINISHED which also included a last minute phonecall to a very busy HMRC to get the child benefit number (it’s slightly bastardised on my bank statement for some reason). Not sure what to do about posting it though, last collection is 7.30 tonight and I could get it there by then but would it arrive on Monday if second class freepost? Not sure if better to go to PO tomorrow and send it first class 🤔

TooStressyTooMessy · 04/04/2019 18:46

Hello all, back from work now and really CBA but am going to have a coffee and get on.

Great that you found teddy foxes. I like Bower’s idea of the Paddington label.

Well done on achieving all that today Cag. I would probably take form to post office if it was me.

Must get on board with this using little minutes of time thing.

Chic I too am good at reading about housekeeping...

Very cold here today too zoo. Was minus 1 this morning.

Well done cag 🌟

I like the Paddington label idea too - tempted to do that!

Reason 1001 for dd not going to sleep, she has just called dh up to show him (with her torch) the skirting board between her bed and the wall because it's "very dusty and I can see my old teddy down there" Hmm needless to say dh has taken her torch away now!

ExpletiveDelighted · 04/04/2019 20:05

Cag - if you haven't sent the form, I'd go to the PO and do it recorded delivery tomorrow, that way you know they've received it. Also keep a copy if you can. Sympathy, it took me months to do the one for DS, but it was successful.

Disastrous 24 hours for laundry here. Yesterday morning it was breezy and sunny so I put two loads on the lines (we have two long lines). By mid afternoon it was raining and still pretty damp so I left it out overnight and went out this morning. Torrential rain while I was out, so I got one load back in, through the spin cycle and into the dryer, went out to get the second load and when I touched the first peg the line broke and all the washing landed on the grass, I was freezing cold, with soaking clothes to pick up and now I have a broken washing line.

We have had rain, hail, sleet even a bit of snow in the last 24 hours. So I've got the woodburner going, caught up with a bit of paperwork and am planning some crochet in front of the telly for later.

Bowerbird5 · 04/04/2019 20:25

How annoying. I have had that happen before some expletives shouted about fatherless washing line.

Foxes I would give her a damp cloth since she spotted it.Grin

Still haven't finished. Found a box of stuff I didn't know I had. Grr.
Two boxes from kitchen those little Ikea drawers full of cake decorating stuff. Mmmm not sure where I am going to put that. The drawers could go in summer house when it eventually arrives but contents need homes.
