Fledglings awaiting April organisation... and a plan - the Flylady thread

TooStressyTooMessy · 31/03/2019 10:12

Welcome to the April Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

April’s habit is usually making your bed which is a nice easy one Smile.

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Also a huge thank you to Chic for a lovely March thread as always.

Definitely sending the find it vibes your way Bower. Hope dentist goes ok.

SC, as they said, it is inevitable that you will be tired after a big op. Remember flying is all about liking after yourself too Flowers.

Cleared out two shelves in a kitchen cupboard. Threw out lots of our-of-date spices and also found duplicates of a few. Obviously bought when we couldn’t find them in the chaos Blush.
Laundry under control

Hope you all have a restful night, or if that isn’t possible that you get to rest for a few minutes at least.

So pleased you found it Foxes. A few years ago I lost the stone out of mine, not as bad as losing the whole thing, but I remember searching everywhere (I was at the local sports centre when I noticed it had gone, so had to spend ages looking there before going home). A couple of days later I noticed something tiny and shiny on the front door mat and there it was, thank goodness I hadn't vacuumed.

SC - when I had my not dissimilar op it was 12 or so weeks before I felt fully back to normal, in terms of energy levels and general ability to go about day to day life. I remember suddenly realising one day that I had felt normal and not tired or sore all day and it was lovely. Hopefully that will happen for you too.

Welcome Newme - I may or may not have been on the thread with you before (I've been around a while under several names).

Hope the dentis visit went OK Bower.

Flying, hmm. I was out all weekend, work all day yesterday and today, out for the early part of both evenings too, so not much really, shopping, cooking, kitchen clearing and laundry. However I have a day at home tomorrow, so hoping to crack on then, First priority will be paperwork, then getting a load of suitcases, sleeping bags etc that have been used recently back up into the loft.

Hi, 🍫🍫🍫🍪🍪🍪🍩🍩🍩🧁🧁🧁☕️☕️☕️ For zoo

Sounds stressful zoo it will get better once you have lilzoo to school. DS to do mindfulness count down from head to foot. Might be an idea to do it with him so you feel calmer too.

Had breakfast
Put heating on and shut DS door to hear up his small room

Will try and dry a load in there.downside.once airer in place D's can't get in there til wash is dry,but as he currently sleep on one sofa with me on other it's a moot point for bed,it does mean I don't get my hour time out whilst I eat dinner and he watching relaxing scenes on his TV/Xbox(BBC earth soundscapes)

Hope your day gets better Zoo Brew

Thanks for kind words everyone! Much appreciated! Expletive I feel a bit more hopeful having read your post! Thank you! Good luck with your "Flying" day and the rest of your hectic schedule!

Hope dentist went ok Bower!

Enjoy the hols Lisette!

And enjoy drinks out tonight Toostressy!

It sounds so pathetic with only one DC, but struggling here currently. Dd is very stressed by school atm (all the pressure ramps up in this term) and I have been running her in for fear she bunks off (and to make mornings easier for her). (I came back to discover her at home last week during school hours Shock) . She'd only missed 2 hrs of a "Reinforcement" lesson but still.). She's trying it on in evenings/mornings too saying she has stomach ache/headaches when she seems well otherwise and I don't entirely know if these are stress induced symptoms or she's swinging the lead! Deffo not ill enough to be off though! DH working mad hrs so feel a bit alone with it. Feel worried for her and cross with her at same time! Her marks are all good (except for maths) and she's enjoying a lot of her studies but she's also feeling cripplingly stressed (oldies on here will know this country's school system particularly brutal). It's draining and I seem to have little energy/motivation left for chores - it's like I can only deal with DD or housework but not both! Not helped by the fact that I have Parliament telly on full time and keep being distracted by latest developments! Grin Confused.

Sorry for yet another humungous whinge. Please someone give me forceful jab where it hurts Grin Grin

foxessocks · 03/04/2019 12:11

No jabbing from me sc , you're doing the best you can , sounds hard for your dd too can't believe how much they seem to push them!

Zoo hope your day is improving

Ta da
School run
Some daily routine but not finished & swish and swipe bathroom
Took recycling from porch
Gave an old coat of ds to someone who has a younger dc
Went into town and got ring sent off to be resized and recoated as well! Hooray! Anti procrastination alert! It is going to be two sizes smaller so it was way too big oops. Need to do wedding band too really but can only afford one at a time.
Went to supermarket for a few bits
Let ds play in the soft play for a bit (although he still kicked off when we left, I can't win!)
Went to cafe with ds 🍰

He's asleep in the car now just trying to decide whether to risk moving him...

To do
Finish daily routine just got to put some washing away and tidy upstairs a bit
Exercise

It is seems to be just raining over my head nowhere else...a thundercloud following me around perhaps?! ⛈️

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/04/2019 12:32

If you only have energy for one SC it has to be dd.

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/04/2019 12:43

SC I totally get all or nothing status, since I've had D's underfoot all day long my house is a disaster zone most of the time!you put your energy's where they're needed most.your child is ,and should always trump bloody houseworkFlowers
Does she get much downtime?my dd2 is fretting and in full on GCSE coursework, mocks(except I media that's her actual)exams galloping towards her and she's struggling keep on top of stuff/get time in for fun stuff/relaxing to eases stress levels.im waiting til pms has passed and she's a touch more approachable to discuss a more structured Lan of rest and work.no doubt it'll be met with scoffing sounds, eye rolling and the perpetual what would I know about X,y,z but I shall don hardhat and go where others fear to treadGrin
When she's on form she does appreciate a nice bath run for her or few muscari from garden added to her room if she's stressed(I don't advocate slavery, but for us little touches like that help a lot)
Unmumsnetty hugs and lots solidarity from meFlowers

I've felt so rough I slipped off to bed and really don't want to get up againSad

I made app for smear,no doc apps available.case ring every morning 830 hoping get one for 2-5 days time as it's not emergency.this not helped(so I was told) by two doc on hols at mo.heyho.need kick self out bed shortly and do SOMETHING!!DS been in and out but I'm tired n irritable.think he's done some maths...

Shadycorner · 03/04/2019 13:09

Thank you all (as ever). Flowers

Aye, I know DD is the priority, I just feel I should be doing more during the six hrs she is at school, but on the mornings I'm not doing "work" work, I come back from the school run (and the shenanigans that have gone on before it, and previous eve) and collapse in a heap! Not even on top of my daily routines currently. Blush Must do better! Anyway, it's half day at school today so I'm picking up DD from shopping centre in a mo (where she is currently having lunch with her boyfriend) and taking her bra shopping. Praying she will be in a good mood! [Confused]

Grateful flaps to everyone! Hope you all have good afternoons!
(And that you feel better soon Zoo glad to hear you are lying down at least, even if you are not being left alone to rest.) Best of luck to your dd2 too! No. DD isn't getting much down time and refused an invitation out with former dance friends this w/e because but she had too much study/felt tired. She would have had time had she organised things a bit better though but it would be highly hypocritical of me to point that out! Grin. And snap, funnily enough, I just put a tiny vase of forthysia on her desk!

Star for anti-procrastination re: ring Foxes!

Waves to Hills and to everyone else!

Bowerbird5 · 03/04/2019 13:35

Dentist ok. Need to pop back on Thursday for quick appointment. I had hygienist too in future I will split those appointments. Thanks everyone.

Antibiotics have helped clear up bowel condition. I think I shouldn’t have gone in and next time I won’t or I might be retired. So starting to feel better but slow. Having 20 minutes out of cleaning to be on here.

Have done two hours in boudoir and still a big pile of shit (things) on floor. Due to the warren of dust bunnies I have a bucket of warm water and floor cloth and I am wiping the wooden floor. I have redone all one side of bedroom and damp wiped everything. Started on other side now and need to wipe under bed but have boxes of Christmas crockery and boxed clothes under there so big effort.
Trying to do from each side but not much room to wriggle under bed. Stillwill be lovely and clean for little sis next week. Glad I looked. Filthy dust bunnies yuk!
Only other plan is washing and some ironing.

SCsounds tough for both of you. I guess your not were horse is? I used to de stress out on the horse. Actually to be truthful I might have done better in exams if I had less time with dhorses then. At A level equivalent I had several horses I was riding and some driving as my friend dad had massive accident and we ran his place for him when we were 17 before and after school. Getting up at 4am to get everything done before school. They had to be worked before it got to hot. They were great times and her dad survived and to my knowledge is still alive today. He had multiple injuries including 8 broken ribs, arm, leg eye socket, fractured skull. I saw it happen as it was televised live race. I can remember screaming. He’s tough as old boots and was back driving 6 months later.

I like zoo’s little touches like the muscari, lovely. So maybe some R&R for the two of you. Afternoon tea, soaking feet, pamper. Favourite comfort food.

Foxes I used to keep a magazine in the car for such moments. Twenty minutes relaxation recommended.

Weather. Crikey local radio stating lots of local roads closed. I’m going down the Lakes on Friday / Saturday and lots of roads including one of my routes down closed by snow😮
None here but forecast more locally and Pennines are covered. Brr no wonder it is cold. Need to get stove lit. Cat takes refuge in her basket by Everhot no fool.

zo hope you feel better soon. I must admit I crawled back in with breakfast this morning. Hope the day improves.

Bowerbird5 · 03/04/2019 13:39

Waves to SC.👋
Hope Hills is ok. Not heard from her much lately. 💐🍫🧁

Bowerbird5 · 03/04/2019 15:33

She is probably hiding under the pile of holiday washing. Hope she finds her way out.

Well I have done it. Cleaned, vacuumed and mopped under the bed. Sorted one of the boxes under there. Found a pair of gorgeous shoes I had forgotten I bought in the autumn sale. Not up to snowy weather but will be lovely for summer.
I still have a mountain of stuff( shit ) to sort andthen I am done bar the bit down the side of the wardrobe. DH stash of RCs.
Tomorrow morning should knock it on the head.

Stopping for a cup of tea. Will sort magazines while having this. I’m quite pleased with my effort today. Local radio has been quite good today. Lamb bank busy. Presenter nearly forgot to do it. Bet he had a load of farmers ringing in especially considering the weather.

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/04/2019 15:39

Found floor in front room, putting away discarded items
Cleared dining table
Locate one kitchen surfaces
Make muffins-had intended to bake malty muffins but there's fur in my malt extractConfusedwinged it and added ginger and cinammon to molasses as a substitute (they have sugar in so hopefully aren't hideously overpoweringly strong).they have dry fruit in to,so thinking if put butter on then to serve they'll be ok if to strong?time will tell once they're baked....

Exhausted myself so nowt else to report except tonight's menu!
Sweet Chilli and marmite salmon with broccoli and either couscous or rice
Dd2 having roasted veg (carrot, sweet potato, courgettes, red onion with garlic and thyme)traybake with butterbeans

Cagliostro · 03/04/2019 16:25

Hey, I’m ok thanks been helping DSD with a uni essay and helping Caglets prepare for Tae Kwon Do grading tonight. Thankfully I can stay home as let’s just say I was right about the PMT the other day. Ugggggh. Still at least it gets my “can’t swim” week out the way as I am also not meant to swim for a few more days due to getting my ears repierced on Saturday.

TooStressyTooMessy · 03/04/2019 16:31

Bower, sounds as if you got lots of cleaning done in boudoir Star.

SC, I can so empathise with the feeling that I should get more done in the school day. I console myself that really for me it is 5 hours with drop off and pick up included but still Confused.

Good luck Caglets!

DD's cold seems to be finally improving! Needing fewer tissues and less Calpol to get through the day.

I dropped her at school this morning, did a bit of shopping/bought petrol/posted card, went to craft class - then lunch, tidying, soaking of stained washing and time to collect DD again!

I did make good use of about half an hour and got a lot done, so often I'll tell myself it is hardly worth starting anything but it is! I am working on reducing distractions.

On that note, I'll be back later ....
