Fledglings awaiting April organisation... and a plan - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the April Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

April’s habit is usually making your bed which is a nice easy one Smile.

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Also a huge thank you to Chic for a lovely March thread as always.

Actually the "60" figure is probably something entirely different to bpm. Not sure! It's the rate at which you cycle anyway, because I remember having to slow down and speed up to keep it at that level.

Shadycorner · 29/04/2019 14:37

Revolutions per minute perhaps?

(Sorry , bet you wish you had never asked now) Confused

Cagliostro · 29/04/2019 15:38

Oh that sounds... interesting! Except the starkers up top bit, I would scar them for life! I had to do a treadmill test once and that was horrific.

Yes I expect that would be RPM not pulse as 60bpm would be low for most people.

Despite me having POTS, my resting HR is actually perfectly average, 72bpm. But it’s the increase that happens abnormally quickly on any exercise or even gentle walking or... just standing up out of a chair :o however our exercise bike as a pulse monitor and it’s reassuring me that mine didn’t increase so much as before when I went on it yesterday. So I’m definitely improving.

I had a nice time out on my own, saw a film as I had a free ticket and then grabbed a quick lunch, nice to just be alone! Then came back and DH had done all the home ed stuff I’d set (I have made peace with the fact that I am still doing pretty much all the planning, since DH does pretty much all the housework!) and I did some Macbeth work with them as it was before 3pm when we stop “school”. They both read a little of a poetry version aloud which for shy DD is amazing!

Shadycorner · 29/04/2019 16:15

Grin Cag aye, it was not a pretty sight! That's great that your POTS is improving. Funnily enough, dd (going through teenage fainty + nose bleed stage) experiences the odd black out and vision changes when she stands up quickly. Had all the tests but doc just says all fine and she will grow out of it.

And also, funnily enough (!) dd studying Macbeth (in French) atm and thought it would be a good cross-over home ed exercise for dd Caglet:
Double, double, peine et trouble !
Feu, brûle, et, chaudron, bouillonne !

Found Wiki link here but can scan dd paperback if you fancy any other bits!

Cagliostro · 29/04/2019 16:32

Wow that’s so cool! Sadly we are still at the “bonjour je m’appelle X” stage so may be pushing it a tad 😂

Keep an eye on it - I was told it was just teenage stuff too, I had a very dismissive doctor though.

Man alive DS is SUCH hard work today - he’s like the poster child for echolalia/palilalia and is leaping all over the place and making noises and AAAAARGH 😭 I want to escape again

Shadycorner · 29/04/2019 17:23

Will keep a eye - thanks Cag!

Had to look up echolalia/palilalia - I have no experience of autism but Ds Caglet certainly sounds as if he is full of enthusiasm and on good form which is a testament to your teaching Smile . I guess one of the best bits of home ed is that you are together more, although at times I imagine it's good to be able to get out to swimming pool/gym/pub etc on your own. In my (admittedly very limited) experience , the leaping about diminishes a bit in later teen years when they morph in to dormice. Grin

DD in foul mood today. Post-trip gloom and back to reality of exam pressure. Tactics are: cake, walking on eggshells, wide birth.

Cagliostro · 29/04/2019 20:25

Mmmm cake. I have no cake. DH picked up a yellow sticker one yesterday but it was red velvet and apparently I don’t like it, enough to actually not eat it (as opposed to it being vaguely ok so I’ll eat it anyway...)

DD is annoyed we aren’t baking the cookie dough I bought but FML she had more of the cake that I didn’t like. She’s got hollow legs today.

It’s a mixed bag really, home ed. I absolutely love it educationally and know it’s the right thing for my two, school wouldn’t work at this point, but it’s getting harder due to DS’ issues combined with trying to juggle the baby as well! Honestly not sure how it would work lately if DH wasn’t around.

Still, I’m getting better at using free time productively which really does end up more refreshing than doing sod all (still doing plenty of the latter, though).

Shadycorner · 29/04/2019 20:38

Yes I am sure it is far from easy Cag ; really take my hat off to you for your patience. It must be especially difficult doing it all with a toddler!

I am trying to get back to being productive 10 wks post op. It's strange because I feel absolutely fine; then just feel exhausted out of nowhere. It's a longer road back to full fitness than I imagined.

Cagliostro · 29/04/2019 20:59

It really must be sc it was major surgery don’t be too hard on yourself x

TooStressyTooMessy · 29/04/2019 21:03

Hi everyone,

Feeling pleased with myself as made a real effort once we got back from gymnastics just after 7 power through. Still not everything done at all but Monday nights are never going to be my night for getting everything done. Girls asleep now so catching up with the thread then must start tea. Had planned easy meal then irritatingly remembered there is leftover roast chicken to use up in the fridge so need to do it with jacket potato and salad. Not exactly a difficult meal but more hassle than I had intended!

SC, you had major surgery. Be kind to yourself Flowers. It sounds as if your strategy of improving fitness while also allowing yourself time to rest is the best thing.

Cag, yes everything is harder with a toddler. You must be ready to collapse by the end of each day! Glad you enjoyed the cinema.

I missed the fact that orthotics worked for you Expletive, that’s great! I need orthotics anyway really as my feet probate so badly.

Thanks for post about hobbies, SC, will read it more carefully before bed. Glad to see others on here get my confusion about where to store things Grin.

Must get on with tea. Big wing flaps to all.

Quick hello from me, AWOL in every possible way today! Will catch up tomorrow, need a quick ironing binge for DH's trip away tomorrow. MN also running a bit slow tonight for me.

ExpletiveDelighted · 29/04/2019 23:15

SC we have that exact system for our various kits, a row of pegs with a bag for each activity, they are low pegs, below the dado rail so the DCs could use them when they were little, but now there is just too much stuff, they have on them several coats each (thick, thin, school, sport-kit) plus hoodies (not enough room in their wardrobes for these) and the kit bags are bigger (hockey approx 1m long) plus their school bags are huge rucksacks . WRT op recovery, it took me 3 months to get my energy back, it just reappeared at that point, hope yours does too.

Shadycorner · 30/04/2019 07:02

Thank you Expletive; 3 months is not far off so that's good to hear! And same here re:surfeit of hoodies! And sympathies to your DC re: heavy rucksacks. DD went through that stage (no lockers can- her bag was 7 kg at one point) but it has got much better as she has moved up the school as they rely more on tech delivery. So hopefully the same for your two!

Well done on getting loads done last night Toostressy!

Safe travelling to your dh Chic! Mine's off today too!

Right it's 8 am here. Dh left just before six, DD 20 mins ago, loads to do today; too tedious to list! Had better get cracking!
Hope everyone has a good one!

ExpletiveDelighted · 30/04/2019 07:21

That's a good point SC, nearly all DS's work is online now, he carries a laptop, one textbook and about three exercise books, also he only has 9 subjects. Whereas DD still has at least 12 subjects and a text book/exercise book for each (different schools) but they have announced that they are starting a digital classroom next year and she will need a laptop.

ExpletiveDelighted · 30/04/2019 07:23

They both accumulate a massive amount of sheets of paper though, which seem to strew themselves through the whole house despite them each having a storage box for them.

Shadycorner · 30/04/2019 07:31

Aargh yes the worksheets! All over the place here too! And books and cables and ties and shoes (thank you dh grrrrr).

Lisette1940 · 30/04/2019 07:47

Overhauled garden tools so they've been sharpened and oiled. No zone cleaning done yet and things going pear shaped in work. Manageable ironing at present.

Press ups against wall going okay. Can do one modified press up on knees, so that's a start.

TooStressyTooMessy · 30/04/2019 09:12

Morning all. We are in a mixture of both paper and electronic school work. Plus the art work!!!

Re. hobbies, yes as they get older you seem to need to have some walk-in kit cupboard to hold all the stuff Confused. Even dance kit and stuff which is relatively small takes up more space as they get older.

Just saw your post about work Lisette, hope all ok.

Hopefully catch up at lunchtime today, will nip out to craft group for a little bit, do some shopping and attempt to further avoid the hard bits of adulting today Grin

foxessocks · 30/04/2019 10:42

I'm still at the stage where dd will bring a leaf home from school and declare it precious and must be kept FOREVER Hmm that X a million other bits of rubbish every week!! And ds who is only 2 is now copying. He has a tiny bit of plastic tubing he found in the shed which he wears as a ring and another bigger bit he wears as a bracelet. So much random junk!

Yesterday I did declutter the big toy basket in the living room and even threw a few bits away while the dc weren't looking. Stuff they haven't seen or mentioned for months and months. I feel a bit mean but it really was just rubbish!

foxessocks · 30/04/2019 10:44

We haven't really got school work yet as dd only in reception so just reading record and books really and the occasional work sheet. Which she ignores Hmm
