Fledglings awaiting April organisation... and a plan - the Flylady thread

TooStressyTooMessy · 31/03/2019 10:12

Welcome to the April Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

April’s habit is usually making your bed which is a nice easy one Smile.

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Also a huge thank you to Chic for a lovely March thread as always.

Chic, you seem to know about these things. I check emails almost exclusively on my phone. How do I know if I am downloading them or not?

Wow Expletive, that is a lot of email accounts to have to manage Shock.

foxes YY to picking up phone to check stuff when I really should be doing something else Hmm. Hope you and DH have a nice meal.

We are also out for a meal just DH and me tonight.

Hello to Ive, zoo and everyone else.

OP posts:
Shadycorner · 27/04/2019 15:09

Chic thank you for all of those suggestions. It makes sense that the number at the top might be the originals, but I always thought that I logged in (don't understand about downloading , sorry, I'm pitfully bad at this!). I'll show your post to dh though at a calm moment and he may twig what's going on! I'd be really cross if all the hours I spent deleting remotely haven't counted though Confused.

Horror of horrors this may mean that I have to call our professional tech guy around which means - horror of horrors - tidying and decluttering home office! Shock

I quite miss taking DD to her activities on a Saturday (well she still has tutoring but it's at all hrs and she has X country lessons but they are too €€€€ to be on a weekly basis, more like quarterly!). At the time I never thought I would miss it but getting up and out to be somewhere early always provided an opportunity, as you say, for a little shop and made sure we made the most of Saturday mornings!

That's kind of you to run May too but I think you have done a double more recently then me (was it Feb and Mars?) so I feel duty bound to take up the baton as it were.

Thank you also Expletive (that's bordering on sacrilegious about the strawberries!) I actually think e-mail accounts make quite good storage and retrieval tools for bits of info one would otherwise write on the back of an envelope and only need to look at six months later. Congrats re: volunteering and I hope your ds doesn't get too cold at scout camp. Hopefully they will build a large fire (if that's still allowed nowadays?).

I always struggle with the decluttering bit Foxes! Enjoy your child-free time!

How is your shopping doing now Cag if it's not intrusive to ask? Well done re: swimming.

Blueberries for 36 p = bloomin good bargain Zoo!

Wing flaps to everyone else!

I am cleaning out the fridge very thoroughly and decluttering unused prescription drugs. [Groan.]

Off to meet DD from the coach later.

Cheery wing flaps to everyone!

Shadycorner · 27/04/2019 15:12

Enjoy your meal tonight Toostressy!

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/04/2019 15:44

SC be good to have DD home later!I am starting to miss little things- some days lil zoo walks with dd2 and will be odd not having any school runs come sept

Shadycorner · 27/04/2019 15:56

Don't be mad at yourself Zoo! Stuff builds up so quickly here too and there's only three of us!

Why deleting e-mails one at a time if you don't mind me asking? I am utterly crap at tech but dh gave me two good bits of advice a while back (1) you are in control of the computer, not vice versa Grin and (2) if you are doing something and it takes ages, there is usually a much quicker way of doing it! Smile

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/04/2019 16:24

I can't use computer it's on phoneBlushand it's either delete the lot,or one by one SC

Shadycorner · 27/04/2019 16:54

Meant "computer in phone" Zoo! But I am truly crap at this stuff so hope others will arrive to advise better later - but have you tried :

  • CTRL+click all the items you want to delete, and press Delete to delete them all at once.
  • Or, if the items are all next to each other, click the first item, SHIFT-click the last item, and click Delete to delete those two and everything in between.

Or maybe that doesn't apply to phones? Sorry I have no idea!

TooStressyTooMessy · 27/04/2019 16:55

YY zoo I haven’t figured out how to delete more than one email at a time on my phone either. So annoying. Luckily I can access them on my computer but usually use phone to check them.

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 27/04/2019 17:34

Deleting them on my phone seems to not delete them properly so I have to do it on laptop. So annoying.

Not intrusive question at all sc but I’m confused do you mean shopping as in food shopping? If so... crap 😂😳 need to really sort it out

Sleepy after swimming. The cold tires me out too.

MogTheSleepyCat · 27/04/2019 17:56

Afternoon all,

SC I regularly unsubscribe from email circulars / spam / stuff that no longer interests me.

Enjoy your meal out Stressy

Sounds like you are really getting into swimming Cag . Do you find it helps lift your mood? I hate starting any exercise, but always love the 'lift' I get during and afterwards.

Ta Da
Cats and DS fed
Stripped and remade bed
All my ironing!!
Folded and put away a laundry load
Triaged dirty laundry into piles
One load washed and now drying
Rescued dining table from heaps of random crap
More random crap gathered up from boudoir
Took DS to park
Top up shop

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/04/2019 18:15

I appear to have ground to a halt
Bit if dithering what to do,followed by watch little ones play Mario games on ds then watch Ben fogle new lives in wild with them
Cheese salad sandwiches for tea(they had pilchards, soft rolls and carrot sticks at lunch with crisps and yogurts)with fruit and probably biscuits or Easter egg remains
"D"p informs me delivery is currently from 30th onwards,so hoping it won't be too long now til oven is here and decent dinners return!!

Shadycorner · 27/04/2019 18:15

I definitely should unsubscribe from more Mog; the amount of crap that arrives in my in-box is incredible.

I meant your dh's health Cag Smile. Hope he is as well as can be expected.

DD is home! Grin Just as well she didn't tell me all kayaking details! Turns out they were spinning around in rapids at one point owing to high winds, and one of her friends had a quick hospital visit because one canoe rammed in to the other as they were disembarking and a girl hit her head falling backwards. But wisely, she didn't choose to share that bit by text at the time!

Anyway, now she has returned and all is well, I can go back to moaning on about the stresses of life with a teen as per usual Grin

Wink
Shadycorner · 27/04/2019 18:19

X post

Fingers crossed cooker arrives on time Zoo!

I've ground to a halt too. Takeaway tonight. Might go looking for Ben Fogle afterwards Grin

Oh that makes more sense than shopping sc :o he’s in a lot of pain today as he helped move stuff for the tip run. He’s got some new very scary meds to try but still waiting to see the surgeon.

Yes definitely mog it’s not failsafe, but I’m finding overall that it does help my mood, in particular I’ve needed to take my beta blockers far less often. And on the occasions it doesn’t totally erase any bad mood, it’s still a useful distraction and I get the nice feeling of having done something productive. I’m mostly swimming but have done aqua fit classes and my membership includes the actual gym too.

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/04/2019 20:02

There are worse things than a night with Ben fogle SCGrin
Glad DD kept the hairy moments off text, that would've been jibbering inducing!!

Well,I got no further.
Had cuddles lil zoo watch buddy Vs duff on food network(making doughnuts and magic cakes)she rarely wants snuggle n watch TV unless unwell.im cold now she's gone up to watch dvd with D's.shes only got nightie on but like a radiator

Time watch some stuff with dd2 and eat the obligatory cheese sandwich
Looking forward to something else to eat when cooker arrives!!

Shadycorner · 27/04/2019 20:31

Yes Zoo he's got such lovely... ...manners Wink

Hope appt comes through soon Cag and meds helpful.

Ta for link Toostressy!

ExpletiveDelighted · 27/04/2019 21:26

Glad DD is home safe and sound SC. I too am starting to miss taking the DCs to so many activities, I stopped doing the school run regularly 2 years ago (pickup each on average once a week from secondary) and they can now get to local activities by themselves. I was chatting to a friend about it this week, we both miss the social contact of the primary school run. But it is lovely not clockwatching for 3pm every day.

I am getting depressed about clutter. We have so much stuff in our kitchen table area and dining room/study. School stuff (neither DC likes working in their bedroom), craft stuff, stationery, boxes of cables, torches, bools, maps, you name it. I feel a big clear out and the purchase of some new bookshelves coming on.

ChicCroissant · 27/04/2019 22:00

Usually when you set up the forwarding (or possibly the email on the phone) there is an option that you pick to download either a copy (leaving the original email on the online server) or download it off the server - it's a while since I've done anything like that tbh. I think mine deletes it off the server if I delete it off my laptop should login in and check that

I delete groups at a time by searching the inbox for emails from 'Flylady' and then let the deleting commence! I should be doing that now really ...

TooStressyTooMessy · 28/04/2019 06:14

Thanks Chic, I don’t fully understand but at least that gives me something to check :). I have just checked my email on my phone and there doesn’t seem to be any option to check that so I will have to have a look on my laptop and if nothing there figure out how on Earth to log in properly.

Dc4 has been poorly overnight. I now have 4 loads of bedding to wash inc duvet, plus 4 loads of pjs, towels, teddies etc. And a sad boy Sad

TooStressyTooMessy · 28/04/2019 06:28

Thanks Mog and everyone else, we had a nice time.

Hope you enjoyed your evening with Ben SC Grin. Glad DD safe and sound and did some wise editing Grin.

Oh no Ive FlowersBear.

Expletive, yes the clutter gets me down so much. I see uncluttered houses and have no idea how they do it Confused.

I think my issue is we are not completely drowning in clutter, which of course is great, but we still have loads and as I have got rid of a lot of the easy stuff I then end up with the harder stuff. Or at least the stuff I find harder anyway. I get overwhelmed and then do nothing. I am going to make more of an effort to do missions or pick a zone I think, even if it is not Flylady.

foxes, yes I do try to do 15 mins decluttering but that tends to end up being either wasted on MN Hmm or just 15 mins tidying. Am resolved for the next 10 minutes at least to make more of an effort.

Need to give it a good go as now is the time really. I’ve hurt my feet so have to reduce the gym which I used to do on my days off plus summer holidays are coming where I will have the kids most of the time so lots of opportunity for clutter. So I have the time, supposedly, to make progress over the next couple of months.

When do you get your cooker zoo?

Cag, it must be so difficult for you all with DH unwell Flowers.

Right, had better get on, catch you all later.

Mustn't forget lil zoo shoes and knickers. ..

IVEgottheDECAF · 28/04/2019 06:43

Ta da

Wash on
Cleaned up more sick

Ds seems to be being sick every 30-45 mins Sad he just got his fave teddy so now it needs washing and he cant have it Sad

I desperately need to declutter more before arrival of dc5!
I have done quite well with clothes and sorted all dcs clothes this month just need to do mine and try to encourage dp to join in. As dc5 is also a boy i am now saving clothes from dc4 so i need to work out storage for that. I have space under his bed and the cot so maybe some of those vacuum storage bags.

We also need a new oven. Ours is on its arse. Its a built on one though so i need check dimensions but then i can order it. Should do it before it breaks fully

IVEgottheDECAF · 28/04/2019 06:46

zoo although unpleasent i could cope much better with myself or the other three dc being sick. We could all aim for an appropriate place for the sick, and understand more than a 2 year old Sad he just thinks i am mean and have taken his teddy away

I hope your dp pulls his finger out today
