Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

August’s habit is laundry

Happy flying everyone.

Hi, Gosh on pg 2 of new thread already!
Thanks for July stressy!
Welcome cucumber!
And wing flaps to all..

Busy, busy day as looking after Dgs10 and Dgs7 is being dropped off in 15 mins.
Dgd19's new boyfriends Mum and Dad are picking her up in the morning as they're taking her to Centreparks, so Dd is having a CHAOS moment as they will probably be coming in for a cup of tea and loo break.
I've told her I will spruce up her house for her today while she's at work.
Oh Joy!!!!! Bfn

Givemeallyourcucumber · 01/08/2018 11:28

2 out of 3 bedrooms are done. No point doing the 3rd as they are in and out of it all day and it can be done before bedtime.

Kids have been bribed with televisionare very kindly tidying up the front room.

Bathroom done. Even did behind the toilet Blush

Hoovered upstairs but the hoover ran out of battery whilst doing the actual stairs!

Must remember to charge hoover!

Going to sit down now and write a shopping list.

Read through the website too but couldn't quite get my head around it all. I think I will have a good look later when kids are in bed.

Oh and Tiny has now gone down for a nap!

Feeling much better.

The kids toys are the bane of my life @Stilllivinginazoo

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/08/2018 11:38

cucumber bribing kids is such an ugly phrase....
I must prefer "incentives"Wink

It doesn't help for us that "d"p goes overboard buying them "stuff".one year they got over 200 gifts each(this includes selection packs and felt tips) wtf he thinks it will all majically find homes is any ones guess...that's how we got into such a deep mess in first place

firehousedog1 · 01/08/2018 11:44

Tail between my legs/sit in the naughty corner. That's me either way.

Alright downstairs is all hoovered. Ol' Henry hoovered up some pretty large pieces of debris but the floors are looking a lot better now. Accidently hoovered up a woodlouce which made me sad Sad I should probably roll on with cleaning one of the bathrooms whilst I am in the groove but the temptation is there to sit down for five mins + feeling peckish/thinking of calling an early lunch Hmm

foxessocks · 01/08/2018 12:19

Hi cucumber I'm another with a toddler mine is 23 months, 2 in September - I would say he is average size lol but we call him baby ds still Grin I have a 4 yo dd also who starts school in September.

We've been at the park all morning , some of dd friends were there. Ds was a grump though and I actually started to get a bit flustered because he kept having tantrums Blush I am normally not bothered at all by stuff like that but I did feel a few people looking at us today. There was a lady who tried to speak to ds while he was in full on arms and legs flailing mode and she got kicked by him. She looked a bit cross and walked off I couldn't help thinking what did she expect he wasn't even aware she was there!?

Anyway, decided to give up at that point and came home and put ds straight down for a nap! It's because he slept so badly last night.

I should get on with stuff now really. Brew first!

Busy on here today

Cagliostro · 01/08/2018 13:09

Not feeling very productive today! Although I have got the drying on and the WM is on yet again. And I did scrambled eggs and bacon (half burnt, need to get used to the grill! :o) and have cleaned up a bit.

I feel a bit meh today but I think I'm just tired and I ache all over, I think also as the house is so lovely I am more desperate to keep it that way - so I'm noticing more that I want to do and getting frustrated that I don't have the energy.

Need to go into town or at least asda. Any recommendations for carpet cleaning? Got a few marks from the HA people, not their fault at all as they wore plastic overshoes, but it was dirt from the attic :( DH got most of it up and TBF the carpet was a bit stained anyway.

Oh we also made a couple of phonecalls for changing address etc. DH did all the washing up. So maybe we did get a decent amount done and my standards are finally creeping up above rock bottom!

HonkyWonkWoman · 01/08/2018 13:29

If you're thinking of cleaning all your carpets Cag, Rug Doctor machines are brilliant. You can hire them from most Asda's, can't remember how much but definately under £30 for full day. Plus their cleaning stuff is brilliant.
Oh! God!! I. Am. So. Bloody.Hot!
Just "bottomed" Dd's bathroom . It is gleaming, hard work though, the shower is huge, lots of glass and stainless steel. Huge whirlpool bath. Anyway very satisfying.
Doing all the paintwork now! Arggg! Dripping sweat!!
I'll have a sneaky swing on an hammock in the naughty corner and an iced drink first though! 😂😂 #grinning through gritted teeth!

Scoopofchaff · 01/08/2018 14:39

Hello all!

Loving the sound of these huge toddling babies!! Smile

Welcome back Firehousedog absolutely no need for tail between legs; we are all continually falling off wagon and getting back on again! You are never behind with Flylady and all of that! It's just good to "see" you!

Cucumber sounds as though you have a lot on your plate currently! Tbh the Fylady website is less than clear! You may find the book "Sink Reflections" explains things a bit better but if you wait until next month (we are taking a month off links in Aug) you will see how the daily steps and routines combine and be able to adapt them to suit yourself and your house. The system kind of becomes clear as you do it ifyswim so don't worry if you find it confusing at the beginning! Btw, I only have one 15 yr old dd, a dh, a dog and a horse. But I do have two abodes, both of which are (literal) wrecks, in need of renovation and permanently messy!

Ta da:
horsey stuff
bakery
served and cleared up breakfast
made plum jam with others
tidied up
served lunch and tidied up
waved goodbye to dh family

I definitely feel like a gereo after all of that! Grin.

I so enjoyed the dip in temperature yesterday but sympathise with feeling hot Honky as temps are rising here again and I am harrumphing about in a red-faced manner and perspiring for England/Belgium! (I think you are a saint to be cleaning your dd's bathroom btw!)

DH took a photo of me sitting in a field yesterday and I want to die of shame! (Let's just say the "jaunty" Fat Face "holiday" capris were a huge mistake! .... and I must invest in a full length mirror ... I really wasn't going for the rotund Tyrolian farmer look Grin Blush Grin) I am determined the weight loss programme begins again shortly! Hopeless start though as we all had cherry gosettes aux cerises from bakery for breakfast which is about as calorific as they come!

Yes Hills you blighter it really would disturb me to know you are already working on next year's Christmas presents!!!!!!!!!! Shock Shock Shock. Talk about how to make a fellow fledgling feel inadequate Grin. Where's your heart woman? Grin Grin

Your evening at the park yesterday sounded really lovely Cag! Sorry your park sojourn was a bit stressful this morning though Foxes!

Bower /Honky and others - speaking of animal birthdays, our ddog is 7 today bless him. We will be celebrating with a Jetta sausage cake and a bit of mole hunting later Grin

Right, just as one lot of visitors leave, another (old friends from France) are waiting in the wings. I need to send an e-mail to try and sort visit for later in week to give us a chance to tidy up again! Everywhere is a pit!

Scoopofchaff · 01/08/2018 14:42

Jetta? Herta!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/08/2018 14:52

Your visitors ever end SCShock

I sloped off for a nap after lunch...need get up and DO something....

Cagliostro · 01/08/2018 14:53

Wow honky bathroom sounds awesome! Frankly I am just happy to have a shower that works and a floor that isn't carpet (yes our old landlords really left that in Envy - not envy) :o my parents used to have one of those mats that blew out bubbles like a jaccuzi.

Thanks re rug doctor, I will definitely use in future but for now it's just spot cleaning. We actually had a carpet cleaning company in before moving in so it's all hygienic etc but they couldn't get some of the stains out, I really want to keep on top of any new ones though!

I had a brief nap with the baby, and then the Caglets said they were bored so I suggested they carry on painting the picket fence and trellis! Set them up and they are happy and doing a decent job. Doesn't matter if it's not perfect, it's a bit rickety/broken in places and we've already said we will replace it next year, so it's just to add a bit of color as my friend didn't need the cuprinol anymore anyway. So may as well make it nice to look at (although I'll definitely go for a paler color next time as it looks too dark in the sun)

They've finished for now though so they're going to watch the baby while I do another panel of the proper fence (which does need to be perfect as we aren't replacing that! Plus I love the color we chose for it)

Will put yet another wash on and head outside.

Scoopofchaff · 01/08/2018 14:54

Meant to say ...

That's a great list there, as ever, I've!

Zoo 200 gifts each is indeed nuts!!! Shock

CAG I so agree about what you said about a house's design/ambiance/aspect/atmosphere having a negative (or positive) effect on its inhabitants! Our town house is very tall and thin and apart from being a pita/stressful to maintain and clean, I feel it really separates us off from one another as we often end up on different floors... . Not ideal really. . But anyway, it's great that you have the summer to get used to your new home and relax in it before all the home ed routines get going again!

Must stop waffling and get on!

Scoopofchaff · 01/08/2018 15:09

X posts!

DH likes to be sociable Hmm Zoo! I'm happier as a recluse Grin

CAG yeurgh to carpets in bathrooms - I must admit that is something I don't miss from UK - don't have any carpets anywhere at all here!

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/08/2018 15:24

I prefer recluse SC mixing belongs outside my personal spaceWink

I fell into Pinterest...

Must get off my phone and get in!!

Cagliostro · 01/08/2018 15:56

Well I've put the dryer on again, put yet another wash on, and managed to paint half a fence panel before the baby screamed

Givemeallyourcucumber · 01/08/2018 16:02

Very unsuccessful trip to Tesco! At least I returned the uniform that DD doesn't need.

Will pop out one evening as it's too much with the kids. I don't want someone spotting me and.my feral.children and.posting it on Mumsnet!

Also had a fun trip to the library. Returned our 2 month over duebooks and got some more.

Need to hang washing out.

Feeling tired and slightly unhinged after the Tesco trip!

Givemeallyourcucumber · 01/08/2018 16:04

why cant I do strike throughs? Does this work?

Givemeallyourcucumber · 01/08/2018 16:04

Yes!

Cineraria · 01/08/2018 16:29

Hello, may I join you too? I used Fly Lady's method when I lived on my own but never have since I've been living with DH, who loves buying stuff, mostly bits of wire for his gadget habit and toys for the DC, so we are quite cluttered. Now that DS2 is better at napping, I want to get on with clearing up but can never decide what to do first so I think having a method to follow would help a lot. I glanced at your thread last month (you seem such a friendly group) but didn't feel I could start then.

Cucumber, DS1 is nicknamed Tiny too but it's more to do with his name than his size; he was on the 91st centile when we had his 2 1/2 year check in March!

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/08/2018 16:44

Not next's Christmas presents, Birthday presents sweeties. Some inconsiderate souls have Jan and feb birthdays...

Done stuff
still doing stuff
Still don't want to
Crap ton still to do

Scoopofchaff · 01/08/2018 16:59

Oh well I let you off then Hills! Still impressively organised though! Smile

A warm welcome to Cineraria! (Are you a florist by any chance? Smile)

Cineraria · 01/08/2018 17:07

Thank you Scoopofchaff! No, I'm not. My user name was a random choice made by swirling my finger over my phone's Swype keyboard and seeing what it thought I was trying to type! I quite like silvery looking plants though.

CassandraLamontaigne · 01/08/2018 17:17

Greetings all. Happy August.
