Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Happy flying everyone.

Welcome Cineraria.

I’ve got DH, 2 DDs age 5 and 7 and a cat.

Feel obliged to do a behaviour and tidying ‘boot camp’ over the summer. Has anyone tried this? We have finished the first week and a half of the holidays thank fuck we are starting to get through them and I feel at his stage I should have perfectly behaved children and a tidy house Hmm.

I too read the supermarket thread with fear Grin.

Didn’t have a very nice day at work and really just want to sit down. Thankfully DH is home and we are doing bedtime now. There is a glass of Wine with my name on it downstairs.

Did you ever do the organised mum boot camp Ive? I’ve looked at it a few times but it fills me with fear. Might try to declutter adults’ books tonight. We don’t have many to declutter (possibly only 1 I can think of) so it won’t take long.

Just to add with a less grumpy post, although perhaps more controversial, I love Christmas. Love autumn and winter and especially Christmas. Bring it on Grin.

Fucking HATE christmas. Although would quite like 6 foot of snow...

Almost got everything done. Almost. My room, landing, bathroom and laundry did not get done. But there were chairs for all and the lounge is tidy.

I should be sociable. I don't want to be. Going to be honest. I want a bath and bed. What i need to do is sort the boy's clothes so they go away and finish the stuff AND be nice to the visitors...

meh. Is it bed time yet?!?

Cagliostro · 01/08/2018 20:33

Oh fuckitybugger. We have a standing baby. A good five seconds with no wobbling today. Marvellous. Typical third time mum, I'm more filled with dread than pride 😂😂😂

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek
This is for wobbly standers.
Feral kids in supermarkets weve all been there
And most of all RATS

Jeez SC is your life ever quiet and gently ticking over anymore?!

Stressy there was many an attempt at keeping place tidy during hols scuppered by sheer volume of toys and be outnumbered.my mantra was there's a floor somewhere and relocate it in September...
We are trying to do better but now I have a surly teen scuppering and drama llama-ingas long as there's a path thru mess so I don't trip over and I have clean knickers yes I know standards here are low it's hot again and I've descended to CBA status....

I did do couple loads washing and a half hearted front room tidy

Dd2 is very upset...she's been writing a fan fic on whattsapp since may and for reasons unknown it deleted itself today.irritreivable.shes distraught esp as had lots reads, good reviews and was whistling up the rankings in her genre.not helped by fact hasn't kept hard copy so over half her works now been lostSad

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/08/2018 22:13

Not yet done zoo Sad Nearly, but not quite... need to refill the brc that fell over earlier. You will be proud of me. NO swearing in front of the visitors Shock

Cagliostro · 01/08/2018 23:06

Star hills

I am knackered. This cleaning lark is thoroughly exhausting. But I am FLYing for sure as I'm being kind to myself by getting more done today. I'll be pleased about that tomorrow!

It included painting a bit more fence. It isn't turning out as nicely as the panel my friend did though :( I will have to go over it again I think.

WhoKnowsWereTheTimeG0es · 01/08/2018 23:19

Oh no Zoo, your poor DD, that's hard. I love your typos BTW, they make me smile.

Cag - it's lovely to read about your new home, how much better it is going to be for you all really shines through from your posts. Good luck with standing baby! That all seems like a long time ago for us, with them being 12 and 14 now.

Well, we've had a guest staying for a couple of days, so the house got a good tidying at the weekend, but is slipping again now. 4 loads of washing done today, three allotments watered (reciprocal arrangement with friends to cover holidays), work, looking after DD who was a bit poorly this morning, more visitors this afternoon, phew.

Cucumber welcome, and you Cineraria, I second what SC says about the Flylady book, I faffed about on this thread for ages not really following the system very well then I read the book and it was as though a light went on. It is very twee though, full of joyous vomit inducing testimonials.

Bowerbird5 · 02/08/2018 07:01

Welcome Cineraria😀
Zoo don't blame DD2 for being distraught I would be too. So sorry.
SC I don't know how you cope with all those visitors.

DDs friend is coming for a night I think but we rarely have them now. We only have two bedrooms now as I made third a craft room. You can hardly get in DDs. Her friend lived with her for a while so she knows.
We had a lovely afternoon with her friend. We had tea on arrival and I met her dad and brother, then we went to lunch ( delicious) at an art galley cafe and viewed work including an exhibition of Matisse.

Picked DH up from station later.

Plan for today
Take DD to work.
Washing to Ds2 s house. Sort out a BRC while there.
Shopping.
Kitchen.

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/08/2018 07:01

Morning.

I feel this morning requires a full fry up. So Cooked breakfast components can be found in the naughty corner... Grab a plate and the bits and bobs you consider needed... Vat of freshly brewed coffee available too...

Tired. Do not want to get up. Do not want to function. But must. Brownies to go in the oven. WIndows sil to sugar soap, window to clean, bathroom to tidy and clean the floor where the random stuff have been lurking... And all before 8:30 and which time is out the door to work fully dressed and showered time Hmm
lets be honest a good chunk of that is not going to get done

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/08/2018 07:36

I just woke up.i need to be at community cafe in 20minutes.i don't want to move...

Can I have a brownie hills?

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/08/2018 07:37

foxessocks · 02/08/2018 07:38

Looks set to be hot today so I'm planning to get up and out early, got a bit of shopping to do with the dc.

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/08/2018 08:20

MIlk free or gluten free? Mind your fingers with both fresh hot out the oven Grin

window sil not sugar soaped
bathroom not tidyed/cleaned

washing hung out
washing machine load.

On switches will be hit after I have finished with the shower...

HonkyWonkWoman · 02/08/2018 08:23

Morning all...
My arms and back are aching after all the cleaning I did at Dd yesterday.
After bottoming the bathroom, I cleaned all her paintwork and doors and skirting from the landing, down the stairs and in the hallway. It's pale grey paint and picks up every mark, especially with Mr Mudball running around. 😂
Dusted and hoovered downstairs and it looks visitor friendly now I hope.
Relaxing today! Dgs10 can play out in his bike while I put my feet up and read.
Wing flaps to Fellow Fledglings!

Givemeallyourcucumber · 02/08/2018 09:06

Morning,

Just had a.read through. It's quite nice to catch up on the life of complete strangers!

You all sound very busy.

No plans for today. I normally like those days but not when the kids are home all day. Need to think of something!

I neeeeed to do some washing.
Have a quick tidy upstairs. Should only take 5 minutes.
I need to sort out the utility room, it's like the apocalypse in there! It's my most favourite room in the house when it's all neat and tidy. No kids allowed!

Went to fat club last night. Put on half a pound but that's what happens when you stuff food in your face for days on end. Only 4 lb away from hitting my target though.
I am finally, nearly, almost my slim bean self again! I think these last few pounds ds will squeeze me into a size 10 again. Nothing seems to get rid of my child bearing hips though. Only the reverse of time!

The kids are playing Duplo, naked. How liberating.

Givemeallyourcucumber · 02/08/2018 09:06

P.s will order the book today.

Givemeallyourcucumber · 02/08/2018 09:21

Thanks SC and Who I have ordered the book second hand from eBay. £2.81. Bargain!

It's will arrive next week when we are away so I will have a little parcel on my doorstep to come back too.

How I am excited about a bloody book.about cleaning I will never know. What happened to me? I used to be fun and care free. I used to waste my money on drugs and burgers and pashminas.
I guess we all have to grow up. 30 in 2 days...and this is how I treat myself. Pah. 19 year old me would be ashamed.

Rant over. Going to hang out washing.

Cagliostro · 02/08/2018 09:59

Morning! Mmmm fry up. We had bacon sarnies.

Sent the others off to wilko to exchange the broken mop, it's nice that it's near enough to take the baby between feeds! I've washed up and am now going to paint more fence

CassandraLamontaigne · 02/08/2018 10:04
