Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Happy flying everyone.

Trip to town wasn't too bad, although dd got stranded at the top of the escalator (she is usually fine so I was holding ds hand and thought we'd all step on together but dd for some reason didn't then burst into tears because I was going without her. I asked a lady who was about to come down to take her hand for me which she did very kindly! Blush). Then ds had a bit of a scream about a leaflet in the supermarket and lay down on the floor but luckily it didn't last long! We went to a total of 3 shops and a cafe and I'm exhausted.

Ta da
Got few groceries
Got dd friend present
Searched for school summer dress for dd- all sold out as somebody told me they would be on this thread - I should have been quicker!!
Dishwasher on
Washing on
Washing folded
Called gp for some rest results

To do
Finish daily routine
Make doctors appointment
Decluttering of some kind - I'm thinking towels and bed linen and stuff like that.

Givemeallyourcucumber · 02/08/2018 14:07

Oh no Fox this was me yesterday in Tesco. I hope you came out scar free.

Still need to hang the next wash out.
Clean kitchen
Prep dinner
Hoover downstairs

Scoopofchaff · 02/08/2018 14:12

What ho everyone!

Ta da:

  • DD and I visited dhorse and did all things horsey for 2 hrs
  • came back to find local farmer (with whom we have an arrangement) harvesting our main field; nattered for a bit about rats. (I must say the appearance of the place has improved a hundred fold after he has been cutting everywhere.)
  • wiped any last tiny drips of plum jam from jars, checked seals, and labelled and stored carefully
  • chatted to neighbour about rats while putting out rubbish ( on wrong day as it happens)
  • wrote note to lovely neighbour who has helped us so much and dropped off jam and huile de citronelle (she was in so chatted with her for a bit about rats too and she offered us fresh chickens for visitors - although chickens still running around currently)
  • walked furry in newly cropped field
  • DD, DH and me went to "exterminator shop" local town and bought rat exterminator equipment and received lots of advice about best positions/techniques etc
  • drove on to local town which was busy with tourists drinking beer on sunny terraces and bumped in to a man I needed to see about a horse and chatted to him and noted his details and agreed to meet up on a future occasion
  • ate ice cream, had a drink and a wander
  • came back to find local lad who helps us with heavy work waiting for instructions and chatted to him about rats too
  • back home for light lunch
  • received text from villager saying they want us to meet their friends whomis married to a Brit later this will
  • received e-mailed from close friends checking dates for their visit
  • watered rose

To do: tidy up everywhere! Place still a pit!

Hope everyone is having a good day! Although sorry to hear you had another stressful outing Foxes Brew

Hope you have a better day today Toostressy!

Your poor dd2 Zoo I can understand why she is so upset. Is she certain it is totally lost? Can you consult someone who is computer savvy to check that it isn't still on computer somewhere? It might be lurking somewhere ... ??

No wonder you are aching today Honky!

Congratulations on your weight loss Cucumber what's your method if you don't mind me asking?

Hope your dd feeling better now Whoknows.

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/08/2018 14:36

Hi all
Fanx for brownies hills😋

I did weigh in/set up at community cafe

Then walked into town trailing zoolets.normally it's a breeze of a 45minute walk today it was hell as temp soared when sun broke off last couple clouds.
Got dd2 school blazer
DS paid felt tips out of his choir pocket money
Wilko met cleaning supply needs and some cat food
Home bargains is a given on trip to town, pick up few bits and dd2 got few stationary bits
Trek home
Make lunch
Wash on
Sweep kitchen floor
Sweep living room floor
Wipe bath and sink

I am in my last legs now......

foxessocks · 02/08/2018 14:41

I wouldn't necessarily call it stressful sc (maybe I did call it that I can't remember! Grin) just fairly exhausting!! We did have fun too, dd and ds sat at their own table in the cafe and pretended to be "mummy and daddy" which was pretty hilarious. And dd picked her friends present out all by herself (with me guiding her on price!) she picked a dinosaur set, a cowboy hat and a small car. So all in all not too bad, and the escalator incident was fairly amusing ! I was glad there was someone nice to take her hand or it wouldn't have been funny!

Ta da
Hung washing out
Decluttered tea towels and cloths
Made a batch of muffins with dd
Emptied dishwasher and reloaded

To do
Ring doctor at 3pm

foxessocks · 02/08/2018 14:42

Ps sc that is a mega list Shock

Givemeallyourcucumber · 02/08/2018 14:44

I haven't moved for a while. I'm stuck!

SCI have been doing slimming world. But I feel like a bit of a fraud because I don't follow it 100% as I don't completely agree with it. But it's still helped and I will always be grateful for it helping me get out of such a bad realationship with food. It's moderation, exercise, mindfulness and self belief that really got me where I am!

Still got lots to do but have lost motivation.

Scoopofchaff · 02/08/2018 15:09

Foxes arf at your two playing mummy and daddy on a separate table! Grin

Oh and arf at naked Duplo Cucumber from down thread Grin

Thanks for weight loss info - interesting actually - as your one of quite a few people who have recommended Slimming World to me (with caveats).

Deffo not the weather for boot camp ATM I've!

Brew and footstool for Zoo

Scoopofchaff · 02/08/2018 15:14

Oh FFS

Someone please shoot me

Last post was for Foxes not Zoo!!

I am definitely closing the screen right now. The heat has obviously addled my brain.

foxessocks · 02/08/2018 15:44

Haha sc knew what you meant!

Ta da
Decluttered bed linen, towels, blankets . No idea why we had so many pillowsConfused. All neatly put away and all fits in one cupboard instead of two! Phew!
Made doctors appointment just hope dh gets home in time for me to go...
Second load washing on

I hate going to the doctor's I'll feel better once that's done and out the way.

Cineraria · 02/08/2018 16:42

Thanks for all the welcomes!

Zoo, sorry to hear about your DD's lost writing. Might there be cached pages that she could view? I mean like this: www-macworld-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.macworld.com/article/2097901/how-to-revisit-old-website-data.amp.html?amp_js_v=a2&amp_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQCCAE%3D#referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.macworld.com%2Farticle%2F2097901%2Fhow-to-revisit-old-website-data.html otherwise, is it with her asking if any of her readers have screenshots or copied and pasted and of her work, e.g. to send to someone else?

Hills do you also have milk free people and gluten free people at home to cook for then? DH eats gluten free and both DSs have milk allergies, which means I'm milk free too for BF purposes. We're starting the milk ladder with the baby soon (toddler had already had the biscuits but stalled on the muffins). I pine for the days when I was the difficult to feed one (veggie).

Congratulations to standing baby, Cagliostro, scary though it is. DS2 looks like he might be there any day but I'm hopping it's a while yet as then he'll be a toddler and I've only just got used to having a baby! I have to say though, I can't see how he can get himself in much more mischief than he already does. My older one was so placid in comparison.

I've had a look through the Fly Lady's website and think I might do the baby steps during August, whilst bumbling along with other things I notice and then join in properly when things are back in full swing in the September thread. Does that sound sensible?

I love that some of you are getting the children involved. I want to get my two into some good habits while they are little so I'm hoping there will be some things they can join in with. The baby loves putting things in things at the moment so he can be quite a helpful tidying up partner as long as I grab the boxed up Duplo/jigsaw/farm pieces before he empties them out to have another go at the game.

Right, I'm off to clean the sink before they wake up!

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/08/2018 17:21

cineraria we have food allergies too(hence hills offering me an array from her lot-which in fairness we are no where near as complicated as it is for her)
Lil zoo is dairy free(but tolerates small amounts lacto free cheese occasionally)she's currently having gut issues and on a wheat free, gluten free, dairy free, low fodmap fun free exclusion diet
Dd2 vegetarian and needs what watch eats as on hefty side (carb lover and doesn't know when to stop) - we've made progress in last couple months.had reach half stone loss.another half stone will put her into hi end of normal BMI
DS underweight and eats like chuffing horse, much to dd2 disgust as she wants his portions and higher fat diet!
All fun n games here at mealtimesGrin

I flaked and fell asleep.awoken with darn headache..hoping big drink get rid of it and can get few more bits done!

Bowerbird5 · 02/08/2018 17:28

Cucumber yes isn't it. Those strangers will become friends in no time. I haven't been here long. I lurked for a couple of months after being bitten on another area in the dark side then decide to join in not long before Caglitini was born and I am so glad I did. If you keep doing some of it then it does start to become routine then you can add more bits in. My problem is I have too much stuff and I often find something more interesting to do than housework.

Ta Das
Took DD to work for 8:30.
Took washing to Ds2 s house and did his first then two loads of mine. I went to the little shop in his village( lucky we don't have one) and bought bacon, eggs, bread and a magazine.
Made breakfast and washed and tidied his kitchen. Had a little doze. As didn't sleep well as DH home hogging the bloody bed. S&S his bathroom. Thought about vacuuming but his Dyson is heavy compared to mine and my wrist is bothering me today.
Went back to shop because forgot loo roll as he didn't have any either. Put all dishes away.
Last time I tidied his house I received a lovely message thanking me and saying he had been really busy at work and it was lovely to come home to it all done.
It is very easy to clean as he doesn't have much there. No RBC or too much furniture just whizz around and it is done.

At home now. Hung washing out made DH a drink.
Sat in garden planning kitchen and researching( magazine)
Pruned shrub

Laid down on bed. Skiving.

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/08/2018 17:51

Cineraria Urm Yeah zoo is quite right. Allergies are a big issue here as there are soooo many issues that I have a 2 1/2 kitchen systems, tbf the cooking is not an issue, it is the washing up that has got me. What has to be done in what water, when, in what order, with what brush... yay fun Hmm

Food wise for allergy provision sometimes I end up cooking 4 different meals (4 person house hold) BUT it is easy because I tend to batch cook and store in various sized portions depending on who it is ok for
Eg pizza wise there are 3 versions, 1 milk free, 1 tomato free, 1 normal
Lagsana there are 2 version: 1 milk free, 1 gluten free
Pie can only be eaten by 2 people unless it is a certain version
The foil tins with lids are brilliant because not only are they easy to know what is in the tub but I can put cooking instructions on the lid so anyone can cook it.

We have never done the milk ladder with ds. Tbh it is a minor miracle he has not ended up with an epi-pen. We have the allergy food thing down so well he told his allergy specialist he was crazy because ds already had versions of all the food the specialist thought it would be nice for him to be able to eat if he could have milk GrinGrin

ta da
work
eat tea because I can't eat what is being cooked tonight when the masses get home

I probably should grab a shower, but i made the mistake of sitting down and now I really don't want to move. Hmm Hey ho. Aaaand the people are back.

IVEgotthePOWER · 02/08/2018 18:23

Allergies here too. One to cows milk, one to nightshade family.

Ds3 making chicken noises. Not sure why...

Cagliostro · 02/08/2018 18:46

Afternoon all. I have totally flagged. Got more cleaning done, I did the bathroom and all the downstairs windows inside and out (DH did the higher up bits) - not sure when the downstairs loo window had been cleaned last by previous tenant as the kitchen roll was gross! I also had a shower and DH hoovered the hallway and kitchen floor (wooden and neglected)

Then friends arrived, we went for lunch at the local and played a couple of card games AT THE TABLE. Something we couldn't do in old house as the table was a giant Hotspot before!

So a lovely afternoon but I am fucking shattered. Luckily I have frozen pizza.

Also feeling a little demotivated about unpacking TBH, I am loving the cleaning (never thought I'd say that) although it's tiring, but I just can't get in the mindset for sorting through more stuff, I am exhausted at the thought of it. We are in that awkward stage where really we need to make the second ikea order, so we can have the furniture to unpack into, but also there's no room to make the furniture as there's so much stuff in the way. And we can't know exactly what we need while there is stuff unpacked. I think we are going to have to move all the boxes into DD's room (she was aware this would have to happen for a bit and is OK with it) so we can at least build the other kallax, which would mean we can unpack all remaining books etc (in any old order for now). This would free up some boxes.

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/08/2018 19:21

Lovely to play games at table cag so many positives from your move!!

I've didn't realise you had nightshade issues too.no pizza at yours then😟

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/08/2018 19:23

Zoolets fed and watered
Washed up
Rest evening devoted to spend time with dd2.shes ask me help her shave her legs(gulp as first time she's done this) and then we are doing pedi-manicures and a facial if we have a face pack in amongst our pamper box.still feeling exhausted.got bit headache too
Just about bung tray veggies in oven and start cook some pasta.dae say dd2 has planned either what we go watch on TV or decided on a dvd!!

Have a good evening all!!

Givemeallyourcucumber · 02/08/2018 19:45

Oh Cag I don't envy you! We moved 2 weeks before Christmas and it was hell! The unpacking is so much worse then the packing. I never know where to start or where anything should go and then you end up living with random boxes all over the house because you just don't know what to do with it all!
Could you start with one room and unpack until it's complete?

Urrrgghh DH has really disappointed me. Sad I have had birthday drinks booked on the calender for months now. He 'forgot' and had booked to play badminton. So he's gone out leaving me with the kids who won't sleep, a whole down stairs to sort out and won't be back until after 9.
Why oh why can't he keep things that are about me in the forefront of his mind?
I swear I walk around.with everybody else's baggage at the forefront of my mind.

So I need to clean kitchen and wash up.
Sort out washing
Hoover dining room
Tidy last bits in front room
Get ready to go out
Oh and try and get the kids to sleep...
Boo.

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/08/2018 20:14

Is it your birthday cucumber?
If it's today I've has a cellar we could throw him in.apparently plenty spiders down there to keep him companyGrin

Givemeallyourcucumber · 02/08/2018 20:28

It's my birthday on Saturday. 30 BABY!
He doesn't mind spiders. He hates horses though! Someone here has horses don't they...?
