Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Happy flying everyone.

We've been at children's birthday parties what feels like the entire weekend so far. I need to lie down quietly somewhere!

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/08/2018 22:16

ta da
a good amount of stuff but not enough.

Cagliostro · 26/08/2018 22:18

I really don’t miss those days of class parties and stuff 😳 I get far too peopled out.

Just sneaking in with my list as my time is running out! Even DS isn’t in bed yet 😳

ta da
✅yesterday’s 2 washloads dried and put away
✅DD did washing and is about to put it away (she’s not even vaguely sleepy)
✅washed dried and replaced both Caglets’ bedding including new pillows (old pillows are chucked)
✅put washing up from this morning (DH did it) away
✅this afternoon’s washing up
✅trip to town to get a few house bits while DH and DD got the last birthday bits for DS
✅submitted barcodes and receipt pics for shopandscan (first time in a couple of months as they suspended our account for us while we moved)
✅defrosted and used bolognese for dinner
✅added to home ed plan

MeetOnTheLedge · 27/08/2018 08:09

Morning all,

Rained all day here yesterday too but it was quite nice, we went out for breakfast (Wetherspoons) then a quick supermarket shop before having a nice afternoon in, DS watching Grand prix, DD watching stuff on her phone and inexplicably I decided to do my tax return. Also got quite a bit of tidying done - DS's room mainly. He keeps it superficially tidy, which has lulled me into a false sense of security but upon investigation it turns out this is due to the BRC method, he had 7 small drawers and several boxes of RC so we are working through them together. Played Monopoly in the evening but didn't finish so it is still out to be continued tonight.

SC - sorry DHorse had to go but it sounds like the right decision.

Zoo - we go for moderate swearing (both in terms of frequency and severity). We also have discussion about meaning, context, causing offence. So we use words like crap, bollocks, bloody etc fairly freely, fuck occasionally as an exclamation rather than an adjective, and no namecalling. Also zero tolerance on disablist words like retard.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/08/2018 08:24

Hello everyone!

We are back from holiday. We had a really lovely time which I had not really expected Blush. Usually find holidays with kids very hard work but I think that was due to almost always doing self catering and perhaps the kids’ ages. This was in a child friendly hotel so no cooking, cleaning etc and very little thinking so mental load much reduced.

We are ready to be back home now but I am not ready for the million loads of laundry, the unpacking and having to cook and clean for ourselves again . Plus I am usually fairly ready for back to school time but since the holiday was later this year we basically have a week to get everything ready. Eeek.

Big wing flaps to everyone, welcome anyone new and to name changers and returners Smile.

To do:-
Pick up cat SmileSmile
Travel back home
Tesco food delivery
Lunch
School shoe shopping - my plan is to go this afternoon with both girls while DH has a rest from driving and sorts out tea. That way although shoe shopping will still be horrid he will be at home when we get back to help and hopefully have tea ready etc.

Morning

What I want to do - tackle my room
What I need to do - work from home.

Gotta love a Bank holiday Monday still avoiding ikea

I have the sneezes...big question is: is it an autumn cold or is it dust allergy? who knows

BuffyBee · 27/08/2018 09:32

Grey sky and drizzly here today and feeling very unmotivated to do anything tbh.
I've got Ds's Border Terrier as they've gone off to Gozo for two weeks. He's used to staying here and no bother really. I've bought him a new matching bed like Buffys and they're both lying here, snoring gently.
Might just have a general tootle round today, don't feel up to any big jobs.
Hope the rest of you feel more energised.
Oh! Btw. Did any of you watch The Bodyguard last night on BBC1?
I only caught it by accident, it's got Keeley Hawes in it, it's really good.

Worth a catch up!

Bfn!

IVEgotthePOWER · 27/08/2018 09:44

Bloody hell i meant to watch that! Then i saw it listed on sky tv guide last night and assumed it was the film Shock

foxessocks · 27/08/2018 10:41

someone recommended that to me yesterday buffy I may well give it a go, I don't have much to watch on TV at the moment. I was hooked on Suits but have caught right up so I have to wait each week for a new one to go onto Netflix now!

I have had a very productive morning, I decided when I woke up that today could go one of two ways either mooching around grumpily and feeling exhausted or just getting up and getting on with stuff. So I chose the latter and I feel a lot better for it. Have felt pretty tired and achy this weekend not sure if I'm coming down with a cold or something. Feel a lot better now though.

ta da
mopped floors
hoovered downstairs
dusted everywhere
polished all the mirrors
stripped bed
tidied toys away
dishwasher on
washing on
washing folded
changed all the towels etc
swish and swiped both bathrooms
decluttered last of my jewellery
emptied all the bins

so that's pretty much all the weekly bleugh and a bit of decluttering so I'm happy with that. Was supposed to be working today but it's quiet so haven't got anything on. DH is using the time to start painting the outside of the house.

I'm going to get on with more decluttering for the rest of the day I think.

Cagliostro · 27/08/2018 11:16

Hills did you want to start the second august thread? I seem to remember you wanted to?

Not sure what we are doing today. Bank holidays make no difference in DH’s job. I’m feeling a bit blah.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/08/2018 11:18

I really want to watch the Bodyguard, am very excited and want to watch it on my own with no distractions! I love Jed Mercurio, he writes such great stuff.

HillsBesideTheSea · 27/08/2018 11:20

I took the mooching route. Should have been doing all the computer orientated things but I. don't. want. to. Basically was really enjoying the project until the goal posts all moved and I now need to start from scratch. So finding it really hard to get motivated which is a probably as the deadline for the project is getting hard, fast, and quickly approaching.
Hoping that putting a good film on and having a hot water bottle for a randomly sore back will help. That and home made pizza for tea.

BuffyBee · 27/08/2018 11:50

How do you do the link thing with threads.
I've never figured it out! 😂

foxessocks · 27/08/2018 12:11

Ooh we are having home made pizzas for tea too hills!

Ta da
Decluttered some more random electrical items and pens and stuff. No idea where to actually keep anything though.

HillsBesideTheSea · 27/08/2018 12:11

you stick [ [
then the website link for the thread from the navigation bar (copy paste it)
and then you stick ] ]

It is basically the same as doing a website link.

Next door has just crashed their car into something.

BuffyBee · 27/08/2018 13:51

Thanks Hills for link advise.
What did next door crash their car into?

HillsBesideTheSea · 27/08/2018 14:10

No idea but it wasn't one of our cars or property

Motivation is lacking today. significantly lacking.
Need to do some hand washing.
Is it just me or does normal for August type temperatures (aka 19/20C) feel distinctly cold this year? Shock
I have got the 2nd duvet out already. I have a horrible feeling this winter is going to feel significantly colder than normal...
