Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Unlike both of you, I went back to sleep pretty sharpish! (Proffers strong brew from large teapot and selection of bacon and jam butties.)

Ridiculous but I am feeling bereft this morning . Have to walk long way around so I don't see empty feel without dhorse in it. It was lovely to see him re-join the herd last night though! He pranced around a bit like a stallion with his head up high doing a sort of extravagant extended trot and snorting! Then there was lots of "talking" and "squealing" as they conferred in a big group . Then the herd leader gave him a couple of nips around the withers to remind him who was boss, then dhorse rolled in the dust a couple of times in submission, and then they all charged off happily together towards far tree!

Had better get move on. DD coming back with three friends today following her sleepover. We are meeting them at station and then visiting centuries old local parade (think mahoosive medieval figures) and various festivities. Then they are all coming back here to eat and crash. Need to clean. Need to make pasta sauce. And need to make another cake as yesterday's "no fail" coffee and walnut number didn't rise very well

Also hope get out and walk in sunshine for a bit. Definitely colder here today though!

Ds3 fell asleep just after 7am and woke again 8.30. So ive had am hour or so on the sofa during which dd came down and sat on me

Just found this thread, might be the kick we need. Today is massive clean up day (been renovating for months and just finishing touches to do which dh plans for today) how to get grumpy teens on board though as it's mostly their stuff! I admit I have a cleaner but she's on holiday and doesn't sort clutter anyway. The bigger the house the more you keep ... cannot get in the garage!

Can some one with teens talk to me about swearing?I swear(not constantly)I let dd2 language slide(picking battles) we have reach point swears on average every 3rd sentence.ive had enough of it....

DS hair is tidied(almost waist length, tied neatly in ponytail)

I've taken dd2 phone as was in in constantly yesterday,over 6 the solid day before and she is play up as I won't give her it back
A) I want swearing to stop
B) promised do some revision in hols with the £80worth books her dad bought her for years 7-9(going into year 10 and hardly used them,despite beg for them)
C)refuses organise see only friend see outside of school(not really got real friends in school)
D)is constantly rude to me or I don't care/do what you like attitude
E) encourages lil zoo behave as she does and engage in gang up tog to play me up or victimise ds

She's bitterly complaining about go church as lil zoo isn't...talk lil zoo just exploded but think it's still food from at least 2-3 days ago so still need keep up hi dose laxatives.shes in a LOT of pain now

No teen experience but have you tried talking to her about how/when it is more acceptable to swear

E.g. swearing for no reason or in direction of other is not on. But a one off said in frustration/pain might be more acceptable e.g. when drops a brick on own toe

A very warm welcome to anniehm! I could have written a lot of your post! We've been renovating for years; but well done on finishing yours!! Ours is a big house full of crapola which, with help of this thread, I am slowly chucking out. (Did one big load of chucking before holiday but efforts ceased due to extreme heat/illness/visitors!) One teenager; definitely NOT on board and leaves trail of clutter behind her. Also have cleaner who is also on holiday (can't get hold of her anyway) who is absolutely brilliant when she turns up but is a bit hit and miss when it comes to putting in an appearance! Good luck with everything!!!

Sorry Little Zoo still suffering ¨Zoo poor lass has really been through the wars .

I wish I could advise about teen churlishness. I am getting nowhere! DD has been quite challenging this summer despite dhorse. Must admit it can't be a bundle of laughs for her with two old crocks like us but we do try our best! My only achievement is I got her to hang up one load of washing on line and next day she did her own without being asked or causing a fuss!! The rest of the time shes done very little tbh except equine related stuff (no housework at all) and I know this is pathetic but I don't have the energy at the moment to argue the case. She hasn't done required revision either!

She doesn't swear so can't advise on that either! She did say "bloody" once when she was extremely cross about something but that's about as far as it went. Dh never swears ever. I don't tend to ordinarily but my vocab can be a bit ripe in the kitchen when cooking going horribly wrong (like yesterday!) or when I am dealing with anything collapsible like ironing boards, deck chairs, drying racks which want to bite.

The only advice I can say is to withdraw yourself emotionally a bit from all the slings and arrows in a self protective way. I know that sounds awful but riding the teenage merrygoround of angst can be very draining otherwise. And as you are already doing, limit phone use. Huge sympathies though. Parenting a teen can be really hard at times.

Btw, just to be clear, didn't mean withdraw yourself emotionally when they need you - obviously need to be there full guns blazing when that happens because when teens admit to needing you it is a rare thing and needs full focus and attention etc - just meant withdraw yourself emotionally from their up and down moods a bit and don't get too sucked in. I used to think every grump or every expression of ecstatic happiness was down to something dh or I had done when of course it's more likely to be about friendships , boyfriend, school work, next music single release and it all changes so suddenly you can't keep up!

Don't know why I am spouting all of this because all of you know much better than me how it goes!!

Zoo I swear a lot, nearly use fuck like dd2, depends on how tired I am. Ds swears a lot but we have rules, one of our rules is that if he swears too much he is not allowed to swear until he curbs it and for every swear after rule enforced he gets a punishment. Its harsh and hard but these days I rarely have to envoke the rule because he knows swearing in moderation is ok anything else will be hard work.

With regards to dd2 and lil zoo you might have to be really strick and harsh on the pair of them and split them up and keep them in separate rooms when dd2 is starting this routine. SImply put you cause bad behaviour you get punishment and I will do something nice with lil zoo. Mum had to do this with me and one of my sibblings. Not that we ganged up on her more like other sibblings. It has two fold effect. 1. stops lil zoo being egged on, 2. stops lil zoo getting the idea that this behaviour will be tollerated. But word of caution: both will hate yo and think you are being unreasonable, it will be an utter fight during the process, and it will drain you emotionally. Unfortunately I do not think that there is an easy solution to this and is a case of damned if you do and damned if you don't

Woke with muscle spasms in my back so taken a very gentle morning. But come to the alarming conclusion i need to go to ikea on a bank holiday sunday. for the love of chocolate what the hell was i thinking this last week?! could have gone last week but didn't I. don't. want. to. Don't. make. me......

I have managed a bit of housework today. Will do list later as I’ve been much better with screen time today, and the time I have spent was just watching Unforgotten (I think every single episode had me in tears!). I’m actually really pleased with myself that I did switch off after my post yesterday, sounds ridiculous coming from an adult but I do find it very hard to resist anything I should - too much screen time, chocolate etc... really trying to be sensible now.

Going to do dinner (got bolognese sauce out of freezer earlier) and must finish putting clothes away and get bedding into the dryer (decided to do the Caglets’ stuff today as I finally bought them new pillows).
