Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

beginner babysteps.

Happy flying everyone.

Cags I was thinking picnic too.🍉

Cagliostro · 27/07/2018 00:45

Thanks all. Daft thing is she really isn't behind at all, she is totally 'normal' but the two girls she has seen most often lately (from her old school - I've not been great at keeping up with home ed social life lately although TBH most of her HE buddies are boys anyway) are quite well developed.

Cagliostro · 27/07/2018 01:16

Cagletini woke up screaming. Finally got her asleep on my bed, couldn't even get calpol in her :(

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/07/2018 06:46

HillsBesideTheSea · 27/07/2018 06:52

Morning- as no one will be surprised I crashed and burnt last night. Made the mistake of sitting down to eat tea ice cream Was soo tired I fell asleep. In the end I made the decision to go to sleep early and get up early. So have been up since 4am pottering.

Also can I just say it is not allowed to rain until I have lef tofr work because my uniform is on the line and I would like it to be mostly dry before I have to put it on! Blush organised? me? yeah not at all

HillsBesideTheSea · 27/07/2018 06:53

lef tofr incidentally was meant to be 'left for' Blush awake? me? again not at all

foxessocks · 27/07/2018 07:12

Morning, it was so hot last night I kept waking up, ended up sleeping with a damp cloth. We had a very very short burst of rain and it didn't make it any cooler!!

toostressy I'm attempting to do it Kondo style . I'm still sticking fly lady routine for cleaning but I wasn't actually doing any proper decluttering I'd got stuck in a rut. So I'm doing it by category instead and being ruthless. I've done clothing, accessories, shoes now but still got a really long way to go and the house actually looks worse because of pulling things out everywhere!

IVEgotthePOWER · 27/07/2018 07:44

Morning all

Life keeps getting in the way of flying ....

We also had brief rain spell last night but has still been hot overnight. Predicted high of 28 today followed by wet weekend (apparently)

Cag metanium is good stuff but watch it for staining clothes

HillsBesideTheSea · 27/07/2018 07:44

No need to whisper foxes this thread decided many many many moons ago that Kondo was a good compliment for the decluttering side. Shout it with pride if you wish. Grin

Scoopofchaff · 27/07/2018 07:45

Despite the storm, it really didn't get much cooler here last night. Sinus headache/migraine still persisting. Going to be 37°c today and I am not looking forward to it.

Trying to get house guest ready and we had a mahoosive plaster fall after thunder storm. Plaster dust everywhere!

Hope your DD and Cagletini ok Cag Flowers

One more day everyone before there is cooler weather and a bit of relief! Hang in there!

Trying not to look at screens for too long so wing flaps to everyone!

Scoopofchaff · 27/07/2018 07:49

I'm using "Decluttering at the Speed of Life" by Dana K White.

And like Foxes I am at the phase where everything is currently looking worse before it looks better! Yargh!

Scoopofchaff · 27/07/2018 07:58

And believe me Toostressy large norks in this weather are no fun at all Grin

HillsBesideTheSea · 27/07/2018 08:35

HillsBesideTheSea · 27/07/2018 08:37

Agreed SC would love mine to shrink some alot seriously this heat makes you consider just chopping the damn things off more than normal

Right work is bellowing need to get going because yay super busy friday coming up. Hmm

HonkyWonkWoman · 27/07/2018 08:49

Hope Cagletini managed to drop off Cag!
And hope Sinus headache gets better sc

At Dd looking after Dgs10 and maybe Dgs7 being dropped off later for a few hours.

This humid heat is getting to me a bit and the promised storm didn't arrive yesterday. Didn't sleep well..... I do sound like a Moaning Minnie today! Grin
So no Flying for me today!

IVEgotthePOWER · 27/07/2018 09:01

Wish we had a grandparent who came over, looked after the kids, did some chores and made us a chicken dinner 🤣

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/07/2018 09:01

Glad not just me getting narked up by heat or hot huge sweaty mammory glands ..

Tada
Two hours back teaming work in garden

Last brambles and bindwind down to floor level
Hedge tamed back where I can reach
We did it!!

To do
Girls den of festeringness....

Scoopofchaff · 27/07/2018 09:32

You have done brilliantly in the garden Zoo!

Yes Honky you should win some sort of award for superlative grandmothering! And no need to apologise for whinging; I think I win the Moaning Minnie medal on here Grin. Hope the weather freshens up for you soon.

Good luck with list from hell Hill's

I have some sort of drill boreing behind left eye and feel nauseous from painkillers which are not helping anyway. Still have loads to do. Harrumph.

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/07/2018 10:08
Bowerbird5 · 27/07/2018 10:15

Wow! I can't believe I slept in until 9:08 😳

I was up at 4:30 with yowling cat which I fed and shut in kitchen. I can't hear her from there and I gave her a full packet, fresh water and she has a cosy cat bed or a mat to sleep on. Went back to sleep about five and slept and slept!

Hills what a list! Good luck with it.
cags poor baby, poor you😕

Zoo amazing progress. What are you going to do with it?
I've I find that. My friend asked me up yesterday and I ended up staying for tea and we sampled a new gin from Aldi. Passion fruit delicious will need to buy a bottle.
SC 37 mmm warm. Nuisance about the plaster had you dusted now you can write in it.
Honky likewise moan away we don't mind on this thread we don't shout " pull yourself together" like on AIBU.
foxes I have considered her but haven't bought the book. There are small YouTube lessons too. Trouble is I do love most of my stuff so not sure it would work for me. Let me know how you get on.
Wing flaps to anyone I have missed.

List for today
Finish boudoir.
Clean kitchen and reorganise DD stuff she left in there.
Wash floor kitchen and bathroom.
Clear bottom bit of garden consider moving compost bin. Rearrange stones between our fence and neighbours. It is sloping here, small rockery perhaps?
Pick black currants and make jam...in this heat. Friend made some yesterday. Probably need to buy more sugar.
Need to find shorts! Looked for new ones in Sainsburys but only ones for twiglet legs not good sturdy branches.

Bowerbird5 · 27/07/2018 10:28

Iced lemon and ginger tea mmmm sounds delicious. Wonder if the pub would give me a bit of ice. If not I could make it and put in fridge.

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/07/2018 10:34
foxessocks · 27/07/2018 11:02

hills that's good I was feeling a bit of a fraud!! Grin but the fly lady decluttering of fifteen minutes in each zone wasn't working anymore as I was just doing the bare minimum and never making an actual dent in it. This way has made me get much more done at a time.

I'm with the rest of you , it's toooooooo hot!! We went to supermarket early this morning to avoid heat and crowds and it was still 26 degrees then! The cold aisles were heaven though! Got some ice creams to see us through the heat wave.

Ta da
Supermarket for few bits and got new bath mat as ours is mouldy - yuck.
Decluttered hats gloves scarves and put away neatly
Cleaned out the drawers of the plastic unit in our porch and going to throw the outer bit away as it's broken but the drawers can be used somewhere else. Glad I didn't just chuck the whole thing which is what I was going to do!
Took three huge bags of clothes and accessories to charity shop

We are having a tea and snack break then moving on to book decluttering. The dc are actually helping me Shock think dd wants stuff a bit decluttered as this morning she was cross because she couldn't find all her Peppa pig figures.

Hope your migraine goes away sc is it the heat causing it?

I have a bit of a sore throat so wonder if I'm getting what dh had last week.
