Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

Happy flying everyone.

Mostly place marking...

But with the added ta daa of having just got my friend's toddler to sleep - he doesn't generally nap with me, so I'm pleased! Also I sent a few important emails about training courses and some volunteering I'm hoping to do!

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/07/2018 16:21

Painting is done, but I haven't managed to tackle the dungeon. Off to get the boy now, hoping traffic is not too crazy whilst knowing it will be Hmm

HonkyWonkWoman · 01/07/2018 20:03

I wondered where everyone had gone! I didn't realise that TooStressy had to start a new thread for July! 😂
I'd have been over there on my own by tomorrow, like "Billy No Mates" Grin
Hello Elmhurst and we'll done with Dd's bedroom!

Wing flaps to Fellow Fledglings!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/07/2018 20:07

Grin sorry, I should have explained more clearly. We start a new thread each month so that someone else can take a turn at leading it - posting the links and keeping a general check of the thread.

Putting feet up now and tv.... Smile

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/07/2018 20:37

Yes it just makes sense to have a new thread each month. Partly because we fill it up with chit chat Grin but mainly because if the thread leader is the OP then their posts show up in a different colour if you have that in your MN settings so it is easier to keep track.

WhoKnowsWhereTheW1neGoes · 01/07/2018 20:49

Thanks for the new thread Stressy. I'm wilting in the heat, not helped by having to sit by the pool at a swimming gala for most of the day today driving 45 mins there and back in a car with no air con. So, minimal Flying. I'm just bracing myself to go and do some ironing.

Scoopofchaff · 01/07/2018 21:17

Ohh that sounds a bit grim Whoknows but [medal] for motherly duties accomplished!

Sorry Honkywonk I should have explained the system better too! New planter sounds lovely!

Ta for links Toostressy!

Also wilting in heat but had a much more productive day than yesterday although diet went horribly awry on day one I am useless sob.

Nearly strangled dd at one point though owing to general lethargy/apathy/eye rolly attitude but dh sent her to her room and took her phone away.

I'd left her with the task of sorting out all her (numerous) school files - currently all over dining room table - which she has to (legal rule) box up and store in roof (to prove she has undergone state ed here). Came back after 1 h 30 mins and all she had done was to assemble two folded down cardboard boxes with parcel tape Shock Fhs!!!! Grrrrrrr!!! When I asked why that was all she had done she said she had been "very busy" playing a computer game. More grrrrrr.

I have also been hassling her to write late "thank you" note all day to which she says "I am going to do it" and then doesn't. More grrrrrr.

Anyway, on a more positive note ...

Ta da:
walked the furry with dh at crack of sparrows
cooked spanish tortilla with red peppers for 3
cleared up kitchen
emptied dw
2 loads washing on
cooked biscuits for builder who is going to be living at wreck2 this week and tidied up kitchen
sorted bed linen for builder as above
washed and folded towels for builder as above
hung up 2 x loads laundry outside on terrace
printed and signed horse insurance docs
printed and signed local voting election form docs
had another long argument discussion with dh involving fencing margins at wreck 2
pizza and salad for dd at lunch
ordered 3 personalised cards on Moonpig
started composing another (rhyming!) treasure hunt for yet more visiting children for wreck2
rationalised all notes relating to "summer move"
started wrapping presents
started getting boxes ready for first set of things to move to wreck2t
tried to motivate dd to sort school books and notes for last year and pack up in boxes for roof
dh cooked steak and I prepped salads (green and tomato) for dinner
(with fried new pots for dd)
damped down furry with wet towels then walked him again briefly
folded dried laundry
hung up next two washes
paired (seemingly) 100s of socks

finally, finally have sorted last details of cards and presents for colleague, 2 new babies, nephew birthday, nephew house move, dh birthday (early Sept!), our wedding anniv, dd birthday, brother birthday, sister visits, godsons visit, niece birthday, sil birthday, friend birthday, dd exam congrats, thank you card, dd thank you card (to great aunt). (All of which needed between now and first week Sept!)

watched footy

and ... [trumpet fanfare]

DECLUTTERED THREE PLASTIC BOXES OF RANDOM CRAP!

Whooo hooo! Go me! [But that could be the Wine talking!!]

Another bit of "good news" wagons roll date has been delayed again (dh work) until second week of July so now have a bit more decluttering/organising time.

Boxes and lids now soaking in the bath and I will wash and rinse them off once I have finished posting here.

[Pours more glasses of Wine Wine Wine for fledglings who wish to imbibe ... . And iced water and fruit cocktails for those who don't!]

G'night all! [hic]

Cagliostro · 01/07/2018 21:21

ta da
✅photographed my newborn carrier for selling. I am sad about this but I need to buy a bigger sling and it’s the only baby item I am selling rather than giving away

Errrr nothing else TBH.

By the end of this month we must be in the new house! OMG.

Hope I can get some sleep as it’s ikea day tomorrow.

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/07/2018 21:33

Oh crap tomo is the 2nd of July. I am supposed to have made cake. Bugger and bollocks.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/07/2018 21:39

Oh no Hills, is buying a cake an option? Hopefully it will sell Cag; I think the secondhand market for slings and carriers is quite good. Wow at being in new house so soon!

SC, I feel tired just reading your list. Amazing!

Hope you have cooled down now Wh0Kn0ws.

Well I am in the naughty corner. Have done the bare minimum and now am going to sit down and watch telly. Have been sociable all weekend and while I (personally, everyone finds different things easy / hard) certainly consider that easier than having the kids alone all weekend, it is psychologically tiring. Saw people I didn’t know very well and also saw my parents do have reached my limit and am going to rest!

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 01/07/2018 22:09

I know what you mean stressy - just having to be ‘on’ rather than chilling in one’s own home can be knackering. We’ve had company all day - family and friend so really relaxing but still it takes it out of me just that little bit more.

Must get iPad charged overnight, I’m going to take photos of every item label that we are going to order when we get home. Eeek!

WhoKnowsWhereTheW1neGoes · 01/07/2018 22:22

I'm in the naughty corner staring at a humungous pile of clean laundry (4 loads). Things have been a bit hectic with planning for DMIL's funeral, plus the swimming gala today so I'm all behind. However DCs are in bed, school bags are packed for the morning and downstairs is reasonably tidy.

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/07/2018 23:22

I do hope that you have a glass of something in your hand. You have done things. Well done you.

Cagliostro · 01/07/2018 23:27

I have antiprocrastinated this evening and finally ordered a new sling. Friend posted about a sale so I got one from the brand I almost certainly would’ve ended up choosing anyway. But I was putting it off, because y’know, CHANGE 🙄😳

It’s gorgeous and has rainbow stripes. Woo!

I should really really go to bed. DH is going to be late home as when they were leaving work they found an unconscious man outside. Eep.

WhoKnowsWhereTheW1neGoes · 01/07/2018 23:28

A cup of decaff tea . Well, washing is now sorted, mine is mostly put away, and a couple of school shirts have been ironed. That's it for tonight.

Scoopofchaff · 02/07/2018 05:07

Argh! Sleep is for wimps! Furry and me are off to see a builder. Have a good day everyone!

Cagliostro · 02/07/2018 08:17

Good luck to everyone in the heat today! We are getting a bus, a train and a tram, and spending hours in a hopefully not too busy Ikea before doing the journey home. I am far too tired for this, but it really does need doing. I think I’ll feel a bit more relaxed about the move once we’ve made all the furniture decisions and we can start building it and unpacking.

HonkyWonkWoman · 02/07/2018 09:25

Good luck with Ikea Cag, are the Dc going with you?
Lovely day with a nice breeze so not too hot.

Ta da
Fed cat and Buffydog
Bedding in washer
Swish and swipe
Cleaned front Windows before sun gets on them. Yay!
Empty dw

To d o
Vacuum through before it gets too hot
Dust downstairs
Food shop
10 mins Declutter Zone 1downstairs

The worst room in the house for clutter, is quite honestly my bedroom. I still have the Chair of Doom in the corner and random things "hidden" behind the big Corner Mirror. And now a Floor fan next to my bed. I'm definately tackling "the chair" before I go away and dealing with the rest when I come back.
There! I have a plan!😁

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 02/07/2018 09:55

Morning all. Very hot here again today but I am resigned to it now for the next few weeks.

Your plan sounds good Honky Smile. Good luck with ikea Cag and with builder SC. Great laundry work last night Wh0Kn0ws. Big wing flaps to everyone else.

Hope you are ok zoo, I know I didn’t really catch up on the last bit of June’s thread but I know you were having issues with DD2.

Ta da:-
Stuff to charity shop
Forms dropped off to DD1’s school
Bought a school play outfit and a couple of PE shirts

To do
Exercise
Decluttering

Have a busy evening with DDs so must get some stuff done today

Scoopofchaff · 02/07/2018 10:59

Oh Cag you are a true heroine going to Ikea in this weather -hope trip goes well - not too stressful/tiring and you can get the things done you wanted to! Also that the travel logistics sork out! (For some reason I get panic attacks in Ikea if I can't see the exit -our local has wierd flashy lighting which emit a high pitched buzz that no one else seems bothered by - so I really admire your tenacity!)

Good luck with Chair of Doom Honky!

Builder settled in; also nipoed to supermarket to buy him survival pack of food, plus a few extras!

Off to fencing merchant now (having studied vocab) trying to appear as if I know what I am doing...

HonkyWonkWoman · 02/07/2018 12:53

Hello Fellow Fledgings, I need some advise!
I have just cleared the Chair of Doom in my bedroom and now have two washloads.
The problem with The Chair is that the clothes on it have been worn for maybe a couple of hours and imo not dirty, so I place them there until I feel like wearing them again.
My Dd is of the school that if it's been worn, even for half an hour, it goes in the wash. Her washing amount for a week is ridiculous imo.
My Df is of the other School of thought and when I asked her why she never had clothes hanging around her bedroom, she said she puts them all away, even ones that have been worn but not ready to wash.
I'm a bit funny about mixing worn and clean but Df says that's ridiculous as I would put away a Dry Cleanable item and not worry about it.
I need Fly Lady advise! What do you do?

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 02/07/2018 13:02

I wear things for a day then wash, with the exception of jumpers, hoodies etc. Everything else i wash daily. Dc are the same. Dp piles clothes on the floor next to the bed some and apparently clean and some not so i leave him to it and wash when he manages to get something in to the basket!

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 02/07/2018 13:02

I have been chosen for the tesco uniform trial! Woop!
