Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

Happy flying everyone.

Marking place! Thank you stressy for taking on the new month and thank you sc for June!

HillsBesideTheSea · 30/06/2018 09:35

Palm tree any one?

Callmecordelia · 30/06/2018 10:26

Hello! Will do more flying this month. Maybe.

Scoopofchaff · 30/06/2018 10:33

Any mojitos available Hills?

Thanks for new thread Toostressy; esp. when you are so busy!

Elmhurst · 30/06/2018 14:35

Hello, hope it's ok to join. I've lurked here for a few days and this thread has helped me understand the flylady system better than the site itself! Smile So thankyou.
I'm only about a third of the way through baby steps and taking it slowly, resisting the urge to jump ahead!
Some of her advice I already practise like a laundry load a day and laying out clothes the night before, but i still suffer massively with CHAOS! The sound of the doorbell makes me hide! As, I figure, this is not really a normal way to behave, I'm determined to get my house tidy.
I'm married with 3 school age children - these people contribute far more of the mess than I do!
I look forward to checking in here regularly and keeping that motivation going!

Scoopofchaff · 30/06/2018 14:41

Great to have you with us Elmhurst - what a lovely post - good to know the thread is helpful!

Scoopofchaff · 30/06/2018 14:45

Still a distinct lack of Flying going on here! Blush. Must rally!

DD back from play date. Everything about friend's house and family is apparently marvellous and everything about our house and family is apparently awful. [Sigh]

Marking place

Hello Elmhurst

HillsBesideTheSea · 30/06/2018 16:42

Only if you make them yourself SC i am rather covered in paint.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 17:06

Welcome Elmhurst Smile. Other people’s families are always cooler SC Grin.

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 30/06/2018 17:17

Welcome elm :) I have three DCs too, 11 8 and 8 months.

No more puking today, there has been napping and Sabrina the teenage witch on DVD. Cagletini has been very clingy and if I dare put her down or let the Caglets have a cuddle, she shouts MUMUMUMUMUM until I pick her up. She’s quite happy in herself though and actually growled at my food earlier so I’d give her some. 😂

Needless to say I have done fuck all! Other than message a couple of companies about piano removals. Must go and check the drying. I would really like to plan some moving stuff in the notebook.

And I could murder some dinner!

Scoopofchaff · 30/06/2018 18:03

Glad you are all feeling a bit better Cag

I've done "f" all too Blush. Feel very sluggish today.

I know Toostressy Grin but friend has a swimming pool and brothers and sisters. Can't really beat that ... [double sigh]

Btw - when I said playdate earlier - I meant sleepover [this heat is addling my brain I think]

Dh has taken dd out to saddlery supplies shop (thank heavens) which means there will be at least one hour in the house without football on the telly Smile

How's the decorating going Hills? Your industry (particularly in this heat) puts me to shame.

Elmhurst · 30/06/2018 18:17

Thank you all for the welcomes. Smile
I spontaneously decided to help my 12 year old dd clear out her bedroom today. It was a hideous mess and thick with dust in the corners. I'm so pleased we did it, even though it was tough going with the heat. She has a bit of a hoarding tendency and i managed to get her to throw out a lot.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 18:25

Sounds like a great start Elmhurst

Signing in!

Cagliostro · 30/06/2018 22:27

ta da
✅didn’t freak out about vomit
✅stripped bed, washed dried and remade (not including duvet cover as that was unscathed due to being so hot)
✅messaged people about piano moving
✅started some more plans in the Moving Notebook
✅bathed all three Caglets (big two needed more help due to being so worn out, but we really couldn’t put it off another day)
✅prepped BRAT diet safe food for them all
✅decluttered some cake from the fridge. Caglets can’t eat it due to the sickness. Shame.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/07/2018 06:53

Great ta da list under the circumstances Cag!

Morning everyone and welcome to the first day of an organised month yeah right. I have a long drive ahead of me but on the plus side I will be on my own with whatever I want on the radio as DH and the girls are at home so as long as the traffic is not too bad it will be like a spa break. If the traffic is bad it will not be like a spa break. So I am going to get up shortly (had mini lie in Smile as child free) and jump in the shower.

I have checked the Flylady website and they have been efficient! We are in zone 1 today and the rest of the week but it is Sunday so no need to do zone work unless you want to.

Catch you all later.

Hi all! Marking place but taking a little break from flying this week. Hope everyone doing ok.

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 01/07/2018 08:31

Morning all

Off to a slow start here

Dd already irritating the shit out of ds3 Angry

Cagliostro · 01/07/2018 08:48

Morning all. Caglets back to normal, the big two slept through and the baby had a fever overnight and was up more but they all seem fine today. It seems it was the chicken they had. I have had fuck all sleep for two nights and am not looking forward to the day at all!

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 01/07/2018 08:52

Glad the caglets are geeling better cag! Be kind to yourself! Brew

Scoopofchaff · 01/07/2018 08:59

Good morning everyone!

Safe driving Toostressy; hope the traffic is kind!

Very well done re: your dd's bedroom Elmhurst! Star

Fab list Cag esp when entailing puke!

Brew for I've and Zoo and any other early birds!

Good luck with rest of painting today Hills!

Very pleased to hear you are going to be taking it a bit easier this week Foxes!

Feathery wing flaps to everyone else!

Need to do my level best to make up for yesterday's woeful performance today!

Have one week precisely to plough through a mahoosive list of all the things that need doing between now and next Sun when wagons roll. In the meantime, in the middle of this week, dh will be travelling and undergoing career defining massively stressful "thing" (can't say what it is as too outing). Basically the culmination of three year's solid work. It will go one way or the other - no in between - eek.

Also, today I am re-starting for the umpteenth --time-the diet I abandoned when dh became ill last month. (Not pleasant being rotund in this weather!)

[SC closes screen and determines to return with long "ta da" list]

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 01/07/2018 11:00

Ta da

Washer on
Washing on line
Dry washing sorted
Recycling out
Nice bath for me

Currently supervising homework and washing up

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/07/2018 14:14

Hello all, have driven back and am now at home. I was lucky with the traffic so it was indeed a spa day kind of drive. DH is our shopping with DDs so I am doing a quick bit of unpacking as I am sure they will be back soon.

Good luck with getting a ta da list SC and good luck with the day Cag Flowers. Ive, the sibling rivalry drives me mad too.

Have a lovely week foxes Smile.

Big wing flaps to all.
