Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

All the best for your babies Op tomorrow Cassandra.
Hope you're feeling a bit better sc.
And hope Ds is getting better Hills. deep breaths and count to 10, and all that Grin

Back from emptying the last of Dad's things out of his Bungalo as it is going up for Sale this week. A lot of ornaments and photos put in the garage till I get back from Turkey and can go through them. I did consider renting it but the up-keep of the garden would be too much.

It will be a good buy for someone, it has lovely gardens and plenty of room to extend. Sad!!!

Hot, sweaty and tired out now! So quick shower and relax!

Cagliostro · 03/07/2018 15:45

Best of luck to your little one cassandra and to you as I’m sure you will find it harder than the baby does! 💐

Successfully arranged piano moving! Huzzah! Still not ordered the shopping but I have put another wash on.

I’ve written a to do list for tomorrow. What it really comes down to though is that we have a heck of a lot of random crap that NEEDS sorting ASAP. Lots of other things we can do to prepare but that’s really the most important thing.

CassandraLamontaigne · 03/07/2018 17:16

Thanks everyone. He's fast asleep in the car here beside me (in the back!) Not a bother on him. He's 8months old. Yep, I'll be a disaster and he'll be fine.

Thanks for the Flowers

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/07/2018 17:22

Ds is fine. He SHOULD be in school tomo, he is going to fight it tooth and nail. Angry

I am fed up that every time I schedule time for me to do stuff in my room I have to do stuff else where. It is driving me bonkers and giving me serious rages!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 03/07/2018 18:45

Nice to hear from you again BlueEyeshadow. I think you are right about trying to find that balance between current and future self.

Hope all goes well tomorrow Cassandra
Flowers.

Big wing flaps to everyone else. I’ll be back in a bit with links. Trying to supervise homework atm.

And ds is not fine for school tomo.

How to tell your child is not faking their pain levels 101 - they throw up because of pain Hmm

ffs.

Cagliostro · 03/07/2018 20:56

Oh damn hills

Just catching up while keeping half an eye on the footy. DH is really not happy to be working this evening!

Cassandra my DD2 (aka Cagletini) is also 8 months old :)

SC it's an interesting question. I think for me a lot of it comes down to feeling you are WORTH making the effort for. So yes it means being more disciplined when you might otherwise not bother, but you are doing it because future you is worth loving enough to do that for.

Or something.

WhoKnowsWhereTheW1neGoes · 03/07/2018 22:55

Hot, hot, hot. Yet again I have put off doing the ironing, just CBA. I did set up a fan in front of where I iron this evening but then decided to go out with DD instead, oh and then there was the football.

SC - sorry you are feeling unwell, hope for an improvement soon. I thought of you when I saw the article about the Belgian football team www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-44624066

Hope your DS is better soon too Hills and that all goes well for your DS tomorrow Cassandra.

Grrr about Ikea Cag. Last time I went I had a huge trolley load of stuff and it was very busy, the checkout operator very busy and it was only as I put in my PIN number that I though "hang on, that's too much". Sure enough the till had charged me £115 for something that actually cost £3.50. Took half an hour to get the refund sorted .

Well, today my Flying efforts have consisted of 5 random mins here and there. DD decided to do baking tonight, she did the entire thing herself and it was very tasty but created a lot of washing up. Managed to wash, dry and sort another load of laundry, that's about it, with work, taking DD to the dentist after school and doing dinner.

Cagliostro · 03/07/2018 23:02

ta da
✅drying
✅fourth wash is on (will dry loads 3&4 together tomorrow)
✅tap
✅emailed housing association
✅booked piano movers
✅made moving plans with SIL
✅wrote loads in the Moving Notebook
✅bathed porridge covered baby
✅ordered Tesco, half arsed attempt but it’s not coming till Thursday so we can edit tomorrow.

I’m feeling a little sick and that is making me anxious, but I may just feel sick because I’m anxious. 🧐

Cagliostro · 03/07/2018 23:03

You did well to notice in Ikea who it’s mad in there! We didn’t buy a single thing. Not even a candle 😂

Have mostly made decisions now but need to finalise tomorrow.

Cagliostro · 03/07/2018 23:09

✔️Did Mumsnet haircut on DD (did mine yesterday)
✔️Got Caglets to pack another box of books
✔️Joined more selling groups and posted sling on them

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 03/07/2018 23:11

Oh dear Hills. Hope he feels better soon. Glad to hear of Ikea progress Cag and I think this weather is a definite excuse for not ironing Wh0Kn0ws. I am going to collapse into bed ready for work tomorrow.

Ds is a dumb ass teenager that does stupid shit and gains injuries like no body's business. We had to go through his bruises today just because they were being thorough and got Hmm and how he hurt himself. By the end it was suggested we speak to the pead about his clumbsiness [rolls eyes] Now if we can get him to made some sensible decisions like not climbing and falling out of trees that would be great. He is sulking because I turned the internet off...

Ta da
Melt down about what has to get done this month
not kill ds seriously it can close
another 15 mins in my room
Heaps of bedding washed - including duvets - still have to do pillows tomo
normal washing
sort out some table clothes
beat a rug
transfer stuff from broken box to new box
painting
tackle the lounge - not really made a dent though
tackle the dungeon
remove spare mattress off ds' bed
look at bed spare mattress needs to go on and run away
10mins in the garden
disassemble bed, put stuff into storage, put bed back together
remake 2 beds
go through craft projects
play a game of where did that go, bugger I am a dumbass not missing at all. Blush

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/07/2018 00:09

Cassandra I hope the operation goes well and you manage to maintain some sanity.

Scoopofchaff · 04/07/2018 07:29

Yes, thinking of you this morning Cassandra.

Great lists Cag and Hills!

Hills

Scoopofchaff · 04/07/2018 08:05

Oops Hills previous post was supposed to say hope DD ok and your day goes more smoothly than yesterday.

Do you have a mahoosive washing machine in which to wash duvets btw?

Good luck with the all-important pre-move decluttering Cag! I am with you in spirit as I have taken delivery of shed load of boxes and I am trying to seriously declutter a few rooms before we leave for summer (soft toys were on the agenda yesterday) and involved some agonising decisions for DD and me over old "friends" Smile

Speaking of difficult decluttering, it's v understandable you feel Sad after decluttering your dd's bungalow Honky. Hope you are feeling ok Flowers. Good luck with the sale.

Whoknows those articles are really interesting! Funnily enough we were speculating ourselves about which lang the Belgium team choose to communicate in! (They definitely swear in English! Grin ). Really fascinating stuff about optimum age for lang learning and how the language in which one communicates changes your outlook/thought patterns, in the adjoining articles too!

Don't blame you for not ironing in this weather. The heat has got to officially "oppressive" levels here!

Cassandra and Cag the more I ponder on your FLY (finally loving yourself) interpretation (as much as I find the phrase a bit sick buckety Grin ) about it meaning "being kind to your future self" the more sense that makes and it IS a good way to think about things one is dreading doing!

Ta for links Toostressy

Enthusiastic wing flaps to everyone else!

Ta da cont/... from yesterday:
emptied three more plastic storage boxes of soft toys with DD
went to post office to post parcel and card and quick dive in to supermarket
two more loads laundry
folded more pants and towels
paired yet more socks
got dh's stuff ready for business trip tomorrow
tidied up sitting room (which is cluttery currently)
prepped casual supper for close friends to eat during footie interval (brochettes, cous-cous salad, green salad, lots of Belgian beer Smile) followed by raspberry tart from patisserie.

Dh already left at crack of sparrows this morning. I've still got summer cold (although feel better than yesterday) so another slow start for me.

Kitchen needs a good tidy up to start with!

Have a good day everyone!

Scoopofchaff · 04/07/2018 08:07

So sorry Honky that was meant to say "your df's bungalow" below. Autocorrect mistake!

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/07/2018 08:41

The duvets are only single duvets which will just fit size wise and weight when wet in the washing machine. Double bed duvets and kingsize go to the laundrette.

Everything hurts. Ds is not in school. I am going to paint the ceiling, then the walls, and then the ceiling again... kinda sick of painting now.

Also to do
Write letter to hospital
ring physio - need to see if I can get booked in with a new physio.
tackle my room
make sure my uniform is clean and easily accessible for tomo.
more washing
put the clothes away
potentially tackle the dungeon some more depending on what mood ds is in. I am not in the mood for another day like yesterday. Aspies in pain are a pita especially when they don't recognise they are in pain, refuse pain meds and chase you round the house trying to provoke a reaction and generally being grumpy.
Apply regular pain meds to ds.

Scoopofchaff · 04/07/2018 09:12

Oh dear Hills that doesn't sound good re: your ds in pain, poor lad! (And poor you!) Think you are a saint to be painting in this weather but at least it dries well, the light is good and you can open all windows etc. Good luck with it all! Go steady!

Power of three ta da so far:
stacked dw and cleaned kitchen surfaces thoroughly
emptied and cleaned bin
hung up overnight laundry and fed wms again
(dh walked furry at dawn)

It's boudoir day here today [groan]. Managed to avoid it yesterday! It's boiling in there ... but my future self will love it when the drawers are decluttered Grin.

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/07/2018 09:40

No choice, we have visitors next month and there is no where to sit because of the room we are working in. Need to get finished, deep clean and put everything back.

Especially as it was supposed to be done a few weeks ago when the heat wave first hit and I just couldn't do it as the heat was making me so ill. Better adapted to the heat now but my god 8 coats of paint on the wall kills the arms, but it will have taken bare plaster to finished so it needed the work and will look fabulous when I apply the last coat later.

Scoopofchaff · 04/07/2018 10:13

8 coats !! Shock
Your saint status has just gone up several notches Hills!

Started well but I must admit to feeling a bit grim in this heat now!

Carrying on slowly!

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/07/2018 10:26
Scoopofchaff · 04/07/2018 10:29

Yay Zoo! Lovely to "see" you!
