Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

Happy flying everyone.

Dryer is on, and we’ve sorted through a few BRCs. Bin bag filling up and some stuff put aside for the chazzer.

Still feeling sick and headache so not being very productive. FFS. But we are doing something at least.

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/07/2018 14:18

get the russians to do it

I have painted two ceilings, the walls will wait for now as it is too hot to paint atm. It took a large bowl of ice cream to get the ceilings painted.

A nice cool shower to shift the paint, a change of clothes and I feel ready to tackle more laundry and move a matress... And then a nap sounds appealing.

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/07/2018 14:25

Tada
Made a path thru front room
Realised slept thru the 1pm put oilers drinks in freezer so slightly icy.wrap in wet kitchen roll and put in for 45 mins.hope they at least cold by then!!

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/07/2018 14:31

Sweetie, not sure your freezer would hold an ice hockey team, and if it did I NEED that freezer.

We lover you phone zoo even if you don't Grin

Cagliostro · 04/07/2018 15:15

(((Zoo)))

Ploughing through BRCs here. OMG so much crap. DH has done surprisingly well getting rid of some sentimental stuff. Lots of things thrown away and heaps for charity. Got 4 loads of laundry to sort through now, ugh.

DH and DD have gone over to the new house to let the HA in to collect the old washing machine. Then going to Asda on the way back with dinner and movie night supplies.

I’ve started sorting the laundry but I want to get the Caglets to bring down their clean clothes too and sort it all out together to get rid of some stuff and maybe pack some up to go in suitcases over to the new house. Although they have outgrown/worn holes into so much I’m not sure there will be enough for that.

In the meantime though I am still feeling shitty (nausea and headache) and the baby has FINALLY dozed off so I’m going to shift the laundry off the sofa and try and nap.

Scoopofchaff · 04/07/2018 15:17

Cripes Zoo that all sounds v tough going indeed. Flowers

Don't understand your dp's behaviour at all. If he is worried about you (and I know he has mh issues so don't want to speak out of turn) surely he'd be offering to drive you to supermarket and would not be complaining about being bored?

Sorry but I think the Russians should be given a different brief Wink .

Angry on your behalf!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 04/07/2018 18:15

zoo Flowers.

Sorry everyone, have been at work all day. Will be on later.

Scoopofchaff · 04/07/2018 18:32

I'm boiled. I've given up today.

DD and I will be taking advantage of dh's absence eating baked beans on toast and watching a film that doesn't involve high speed car chases.

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/07/2018 18:37

SC don't apologise he's be a twat.simples

He was raised put self first, last and always😒not easy habit to break

He refuse get out bed so I staggered to school by myself in heat.was late despite giving myself 45 mins(only 5 mins late, but still)we walk down hill towards fields we cross and he pulled up in the car having acquired D's en route.if looks could've killed he would have die on the spot..more so with the immortal words "hop in.i didn't fancy slowest walk ever in the heat"
I was tempted tell him to fuck himself but my treacherous body decided the thought be driven back was preferable....

Tada
Kids snacks
Epic ignoring him via use of Pinterest, interest and FB

Now going to read bit of bad dad to the little ones before they head up to read

I believe he's going back to bed soon as dd2 is champ at bit to watch bit u.s crime drama(not svu)and then Ackley bridge.he hates both so I am Childishly keen to get them on asap.....

Scoopofchaff · 04/07/2018 19:46

Oh dear Zoo, as my late ma used to say (usually while waving large wooden spoon) "if you havent, by the age of 30, learnt that personal happiness stems from helping others, then you may as well give up!"

Cag I know the moving deadline is driving you on, but honestly you deserve a Star for ploughing through the decluttering in this weather, esp when you are feeling below par.

Scoopofchaff · 04/07/2018 20:31

Ta da: (late surge)
2 x more loads washing
and hung up to dry
decluttered two drawers
quick supper (beans on toast!)
walked the furry in the cool
printed out recipes

Cagliostro · 04/07/2018 21:06

Thanks sc I think we did pretty well under the circumstances. Also got the Caglets to go through all their clothes, so they got everything out of our wardrobe as well as the clean laundry. Huge pile of stuff for DD's smaller friend, a few bits for charity, and a bag of fabric recycling.

Cagletini is thoroughly exhausting, I really can't wait till we have a nice clear space in the new living room! She is ever so cute though, today she was trying to feed us (ie smooshing a cracker into our faces)

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 04/07/2018 21:56

Hello everyone. So sorry for being s bad thread leader today. Have been at work.

zoo, lovely to have you back in the thread, glad you got some tests done and sorry things are so difficult with ‘D’P.

Hills, very impressive that you are ploughing on with your painting even if you do not really have a choice in it.

Cag , yes, once they are crawling and into everything it is really exhausting, especially if you are trying to pack and organise.

Hope you and DD enjoyed your film and beans on toast SC.

Hope things went ok today Cassandra.

Big wing flaps to Ive and to everyone else.

Painting has finished for the night. Going to clean up and then sort out uniform for tomo. Ask ds if I had paint in my hair. Nooo he assured me. I bloomin well do. Would have a bath but that requires cleaning and is far too much effort. Shower will have to do. My body is going to treat me to incredible suffering tomo but only 2 walls requiring 2 coats of paint left to do, and possibly a 3 coat on one of the ceilings. Everything else has been done and I can start washing the paint sheets and cleaning up properly tomo. 2 weeks for the paint to harden properly and then the hard work will begin to put the house back in order... No rest for the wicked.

Scoopofchaff · 04/07/2018 23:10

Bloomin' well done Hills and Cag!!

DD and I had a lovely evening thanks Toostressy!

And we've had a mahoosive thunder storm and it is chucking it down outside. The smell of rain on grass is frankly delicious!!!

Cagliostro · 04/07/2018 23:35

ta da
✅managed not to kill anyone. Tempers are fraying.
✅supervised Caglets sorting clothes and putting away
✅lots of decluttering
✅amended Tesco order with DH
✅placed massive Ikea order - we do have more stuff to order though (pretty sure the house is going to look like a catalogue Hmm) but trying to make all the decisions was driving us insane, so we decided to get the main stuff delivered on Monday, we can build that and unpack into it and then see where we are. It does mean that everyone but DS will have their clothes in boxes for now. Not a disaster though if we don’t get it done before moving in day, they have their beds sorted and we’ve got lots of storage organised for toys, games, books and things like shoes.

Man alive I’m wiped. And I’ve barely left the sofa all day. Hmm

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 05/07/2018 06:47

Honestly. What is wrong with some people!

Cagliostro · 05/07/2018 08:04

Morning folks.

Well I’m a muppet and glad I checked my email, turns out there’s no trampolining this week. Feel a bit guilty as I only ordered the shopping so early as I thought DH then had to go out 😳

Still have to go out for DD’s paediatrician app (and need to be brave and beg her to refer DS to OT). Then the long evening that is badgers/cadets. I would give this a miss, but it’s more important that DD doesn’t miss stuff now they are learning loads of first aid every week. Plus at least I can take the bags of clothes for DD’s friend and get that out the house :) silver linings and all that.

My throat feels scratchy 😡

stegosauruslady · 05/07/2018 08:24

Morning!

I have been insanely busy the last couple of days, but keeping on top on my fluttering nicely too. Healthy 13 week old mini-stegosaurus seen on a scan yesterday! I'm past all of that 1st trimester bleugh it seems now, which makes everything so much easier.

Ta daas so far...
Up at 7
Shower
Laundry
Kids bags all packed
Swish and swipe

To do
Daily mission
Hoover dining room
De-clutter cabinet in dining room
Put away laundry
Get cash out for DD1's Sea Cadets thing tonight
Go with DP to get his blood tests done (he hates needles)

Cagliostro · 05/07/2018 08:33

Well DD has pissed me off already. Absolute refusal to wear any top that is in her wardrobe. It’s too hot to wear black. She has other t-shirts like one she got from a run, but apparently she can’t possibly wear that when she’s not wearing sports?!

I’ve told her she can choose a new t-shirt today but she can pay for it out of her birthday money. She knows I will be getting her (and DS) some new bits once we’ve moved, if they need anything, but they DO have plenty to wear in the meantime if they aren’t so fucking stubborn.

And we can’t find the shopandscan book so today is off to a marvellous start. 😡🤦‍♀️

I just told DD to get out of my room as she was annoying me. I am so done and it’s not even 9am

Scoopofchaff · 05/07/2018 09:28

I hear you Cag dd has five pairs of shorts, only two of which she will currently wear because I bought them because they are "too long". She won't even wear them for dossing around at wreck2 where all clothing gets ruined frankly. (Funnily enough even my stories about having to wear my sisters' ill fitting hand-me-downs are not enough to change her mind Grin Grin ). Seriously though, it drives me nuts as it's such a waste! We are in dead-lock over it because I am refusing to provide funds to buy any more. Plus the two pairs she does wear constantly require laundering! Grrrrrr.

Congratulations on your scan Stegosauraus! Very good of you to accompany your dp to doctors tonight when he was so unsupportive earlier in the week. I'm tempted to suggest you tell him that to do so would "do your head in" to go!! Wink Smile Glad you are feeling better Flowers

No Flying of any importance happening today as I am at work but a few ta das this morning:

walked furry at crack of sparrows in the cool
fed the furry
brought back in the laundry I left out in the thunder storm last night to re-wash Blush
two loads on
emptied dw
quick s&s
made dd breakfast which she will probably feed to the dog
quick wipe down of kitchen and kitchen bin
firm discussion with dd as to who she is meeting up with during the day, what she is and is not permitted to do, at what time, where, how long and when she will be back [sigh]

Tally-ho everybody!
