Right the summary:
The other week a former member of HQ posted some images in twitter to out what they felt was transphobic views on mn (ironically picking on one of the strongest supporters for trans) These images were from the mod view and contain IP addresses.
The person had been an intern for the media side of coordination and needed some access to some details of their work. Since the time of the person being at HQ the general access of details has limited so those who do not need all the details have less access to all the details.
The person was a trans activist who had a long publicised background of views. But also had a good work/experience background.
Since leaving they have been disrespectful and derogatory about MN on twitter as well as posting the images with IPs. It was clear the images had been not only taken whilst at mn but over an extended period of time. Questioned whether this was the sole purpose of joining HQ to destroy it.
Understandable people were upset as it was unclear at the time the position the person had held, what additional information they had taken and the fact that they were concern about similar effects to the Jeffery incident (especially as TRAs are know to actually attack people)
A she was targeting people who were debating the issue of Trans if you were not involved in this debate you are unlikely to be caught in this cross fire
The HQ side of things is affecting more people. At the beginning HQ were wishy washy with their acknowledgement of the situation and were not going to report to the ICO. Posters were pissed off and reported it themselves.
They did assert that the person was in breach of their contract
It was clear that HQ have no idea the sort of information they are handling (big picture data protection) and had had some very bad advice on what they needed to do wrt data protection.
This concerned a lot of people, lots of words were exchanged in the normal MN strong debate manner.
Eventually HQ reported to ICO and took the advice to report to Police. BUT they also accepted a wishy washy opps I got caught please don't take my pocket money type apology from the person and their word that they would delete anything else they had.
Which pissed people off again. Rightly because 1. evidence disposal and 2. how the hell do you accept the word of a person on this who has a proven track record.
Still clear HQ were not taking proper advice on big picture Data protection.
Some of the people trying to help HQ over the data protection situation. Got pissed off with MN and have left. Some have just got pissed off.
I have not followed discussions from today or yesterday. So the situation may have changed again. But it is very clear targeted MN to shut down conversation and predominantly woman safe space particularly with the timing being just after HQ stood up for the right for woman to discuss trans issues. This was done to shut down mn. but has damaged a person's carer, got people pissed off with HQ and more determined than ever not to be controlled by those who don't like that woman could have the right to discuss or a safe place to discuss.
IF you are in a situation where you could die or be hurt if someone found you, then this is who may seriously be concerned about still being on mn. But this is a personal decision. At this point there is no leaking of Identities. Hopefully HQ is getting better advice.
Personally I am giving them until after GDPR and if then they are proven to still being uneducated on the matter of data protection then I will reconsider. But right now I am personally sticking about because damn it I will not be shut up by people with an agenda.
