Hello everyone,
Welcome to the Flylady thread for April, where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system with baby steps, missions, daily focuses (foci?!) and decluttering. But more than that, we are a supportive bunch where we share the trials and tribulations of everyday life. We post our to do and ta da lists and chat a whole lot.
Newbies, lurkers and returners always welcome!
Back tonight with links for tomorrow!

foxessocks · 16/04/2018 11:58

No news yet zoo but apparently they don't confirm here until after 4pm so got a while to wait!

I'm at the dentist. I feel nervous despite knowing I'm having nothing done today. What is it about the dentist that does that?!

Saltcrust · 16/04/2018 12:00

It's the smell Foxes makes me wibble

Good luck!

foxessocks · 16/04/2018 12:01

Did five minutes decluttering in ds room. Sorted all his bricks into one box rather than all in different boxes. Now he can actually play with them properly!

Cagliostro · 16/04/2018 12:06

Well I’ve nearly finished the Tesco order, it’s super pricey this week. We’ve decided to just offer lunch for the first week. Now need to plan dinners as well. It’ll be weird having hot meals twice a day (we’ve tried just doing cold stuff in the evenings. But the Caglets rebelled through terrible hunger 🙄) but anyway I like it when people share meal plans so here is Cagletini’s first week (well six days, shopping arrives tomorrow but there’s no way we are starting weaning at the unlimited pizza buffet 😂😂😂)
Wednesday: roast chicken carrot and broccoli (we will have gravy etc)
Thursday: salmon with cucumber (will add some kind of carb for us)
Friday: cheesy omelette with courgette (I’ll add ham)
Saturday: pork chops sweet potato and green beans
Sunday: avocado on toast (hipster/millennial baby 🤓) with baby corn
Monday: creamy tomato veg pasta and asparagus (I really really need to make sure we have a splash mat by this point...)
Excited and slightly less stressed about it now.

Must go finish the shopping 😡😡😡

Foxes dentists are in s trusted position putting hands/tools in our mouths.makes is very vulnerable.
Can't believe after 4pm,talk about prolonging the agony!!here it's released online at midnight not that you can get to system as inevitably crashes at that time
SC yay

Dd1 just text in her way,we are off to buy paint for the girls room.after much deliberation and try get a stroppy 10year old who wanted black and a 14year old stress bag that wanted anything but pink(colour is now)or black
Colour pots from wilko later we have finally agreed on a pale purple with white woodwork.they have white iron bed frames and lil zoo has a white chest of drawers and slim wardrobe(dd2 is having old boiler cupboard adapted as wardrobe/clothes cupboard/storage if all her crap)
We are also adding white shelves and a big one as a desk on dd2 side so she has a proper study space(long overdue)
This will keep me busy decorating and the dd1 fiance going to do the handyman thing in a fortnight as DP doesn't know one end of a drill from the other and I don't trust myself with power toolsGrinGrin

foxessocks · 16/04/2018 14:31

Well the dentist was a total waste of time, he can no longer do the treatment he had previously said he could and has referred me to another dentist!! Could have told me that one the phone!?

cag your menu sounds great. My dc have never tried avacado Shock I don't like them so just don't ever buy them! Although I think they may have had guacamole on fajitas once...

ta da
dusted downstairs furniture
emptied and reloaded dishwasher
tidied some toys

to do
hoover
mop
hang washing up outside if dh hurries up and puts the washing line up...he is home early but has been on the phone (work related) the whole time. May as well have stayed in the office then!
dust upstairs
polished bathroom mirror
changed dc sheets
10 more minutes decluttering + today's mission
swish and swipe bathroom

foxessocks · 16/04/2018 14:31

oh and bins

foxessocks · 16/04/2018 14:32

why does it feel like my list hasn't got any shorter!?

foxessocks · 16/04/2018 14:34

oh and ta da -
Ordered more storage from Amazon as I had a voucher, got a toy basket, some little baskets for kitchen cupboards and a letter rack - I'm very excited, dh thinks I've totally lost the plot now.

I still need to think of a toy box solution for ds room, haven't decided what I want yet. And have seen a nice little storage box for the bathroom at B&M bargains so need to go to the local one and see if they have it in stock. Also, something for outside toys now the weather is brightening up.

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 16/04/2018 14:53

Name change check....

Cagliostro · 16/04/2018 15:01

I didn’t like avocado until I was about 18! I love it now as do DH and DD. I also didn’t eat sweet potato until I was weaning DD and thought well if I’m mashing it up for her I really need to try it myself 😂

DS will barely eat any of the above plan. But it’s lunch so he can make himself a sandwich

I have bought a bib. Yay. Sippy cup and anti bac wipes ordered via Tesco.

OP posts:
foxessocks · 16/04/2018 15:57

cag I only started liking sweet potato since I had dc and everyone kept saying what a great weaning food it is! Dd has never liked it though! Ds does I think he just loves anything sweet. Dd doesn't like sweet potatoes, parsnips, swede anything like that but she loves brussel sprouts Confused

Right I'm getting there with this list now.

To do
Polish mirror
Change sheets
Mop bathroom
Ten more min decluttering + mission
Swish and swipe bathroom

Then it'll be time to do dinner. We are having sweet and sour chicken tonight, with rice.

foxessocks · 16/04/2018 16:00

By the way I can you wise ladies please answer these questions for me -

1)Why does my laundry always come out so crumpled? I don't have a tumble dryer if that makes a difference and don't think I could afford one!
2)Anyone who has a cordless hoover would you recommend it? Worthwhile investment even if my hoover does work fine but is very bulky and heavy
3) what cleaning products do you use for surfaces bathroom or kitchen? Does anyone make their own sprays or anything like that ? I never know what to buy! There's so much in the shops different wipes and sprays it confuses me Confused

Thank you !! Also sorry for making this thread about housework for a minute there GrinGrin

foxessocks · 16/04/2018 16:01

That should say is it a worthwhile investment re the hoover

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/04/2018 16:03

Hope you get good news on school front foxes

Lil zoo eats sprouts, cabbage, any green leaves but thinks parsnip/sweet potato are devils work!!she's a bit meh over avocado.ds adores and would happily eat with a spoon.dd2 grown to love them.secret is making sure properly ripe

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 16/04/2018 16:04
  1. i dont know ....

  2. i dont have one we have a shark lift away

  3. i like flash surfaces cleaners, and sparkle drops one, also use lots anti bac wipes from aldi

foxessocks · 16/04/2018 16:43

Dd got the local primary so all good Smile

Callmecordelia · 16/04/2018 17:02

Foxes

1)Why does my laundry always come out so crumpled? I don't have a tumble dryer if that makes a difference and don't think I could afford one!

Do you use a high spin speed? It reduces drying time, but ups the creases. I always spin mine on a much lower spin than the machine is capable of. Also, take it out of the washing machine quickly. I do not always do this, and regret it when I don't. My washer and tumble dryer have a creaseguard setting and I always use it. Not sure what it does, but I hate ironing, so figure it's worth a shot.

2)Anyone who has a cordless hoover would you recommend it? Worthwhile investment even if my hoover does work fine but is very bulky and heavy

I love my cordless Dyson. It's a very expensive model that we got when DH won a competition at work. He actually won a massive TV, but asked his boss to swap it for a freezer we could put in the garage and a cordless vacuum. He didn't even ask me, but he knew that's what I wanted. Sometimes I remember why I married him in the first place.

Anyway, it's great. Is it £450 worth of great though? I'm not sure. I certainly hoover about three times as often as I used to, because it is so easy. There's loads of stairs in this house, and I love it for those. It's suction is much better than our old incredibly ancient upright Dyson (bought before they switched production out of the UK.)

But... Amazing as it is... I do think it is very expensive for what you get.

  1. what cleaning products do you use for surfaces bathroom or kitchen? Does anyone make their own sprays or anything like that ? I never know what to buy! There's so much in the shops different wipes and sprays it confuses me confused

I use Viakal in the bathroom on any shower screens and taps because our water is incredibly hard. I have been known to use neat vinegar on our stainless steel sink in the kitchen because of this. I use flash bathroom spray and flannels (originally from the baby department of Ikea) for everywhere else. And anti bac wipes for quick cleaning.

I have cheapy antibac spray for quick surface cleaning in the kitchen, and a Flash lemon gel thing for deep cleans that is often on multibuy offers or in poundstretcher type shops. More anti bac wipes, but I try to use them more sparingly these days.

Not much flying done. DS has an ear and throat infection that is still lingering on.

Callmecordelia · 16/04/2018 17:03

Yay for school news! Smile

foxessocks · 16/04/2018 17:08

Thanks everyone Smile

Callme I do use a high spin speed and often leave in the machine so I'll definitely try those two things!! Thank you. The lemon flash thing...does that just clean better then? I'll have to look for that. Might get some anti bacterial wipes then. I'm reluctant because I already use lots of baby wipes and I use floor wipes (although sparingly) and I do feel bad about the planet!

Anyway i will see what I can find when I do my online shop tomorrow. At the moment the sprays I use don't seem to really make things sparkle. Maybe I'm just hopeless at cleaning! Well I definitely am.

Callmecordelia · 16/04/2018 17:16

Yes it does clean better, but it is more of a faff than anti bac and kitchen roll, so I don't use it all the time. I just looked at the actual bottle and it says that it is double concentrated Flash multi purpose cleaner. Apparently it smells of "crisp lemons". Hmm

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/04/2018 17:44

Yay on school front foxes

Are you overloading wash?do you have a reduce iron setting?!

No idea,don't own hoover

I like flash with fabreeze for bathroom
Also use wilko lemon anti bacterial wipes

In kitchen same wipes and muscle trigger spray on hob/tiles

Clean Linen scented zoflora on floors
