Hello all - welcome to our February thread for 2018. Everyone is welcome and it's never too late to join in. We are decluttering our homes and keeping them clean and tidy(ish) as well as having some general chat as well.

We follow the Flylady method, and will post links daily to the missions via the Flylady website. For more information, have a look at www.flylady.net/

Here's to a fun February for all of us (with the occasional prod from the pointy stick of motivation and visits to the naughty corner Cake Brew Wine ) Grin

Good morning, one bin out and back in again this morning, school run and made breakfast. Just gearing myself up to reply to an eBay seller I bought something off yesterday who messaged me to say they were away so the item I've ordered will miss the day I want it for will have to show DD a picture instead .

The worst of the weather (snow) is not due here until Thursday afternoon currently, going to be cold and icy until then though.

Need to get wash DD's dancewear for class tonight, prepare a slow cooker tea and do some ironing/tidying/decluttering. I'm going in!

Waves to Bower, fresh, Zoo, SC, foxes, stressy, Cag & cordelia while snaffling goodies from the naughty corner. Sorry if I missed anyone there frozen fingers

Coffee break

Ta da so far:
animals
tried to encourage dd to wear a hat/scarf/gloves to school ... teens eh?

dog walk (freeeezing!!) just started to snow a bit and then stopped
emptied dw
wiped down kitchen (which is looking very cluttered and shabby indeed)
sorted kitchen bin
carried washing downstairs including dd gym kit
triaged laundry
searched for missing papers without success

To do:
carry on with laundry
search for papers
three hrs "work" work
supper already sorted thank heavens (beef stew again)
make soup today or tomorrow?

Absolutely gorgeous photo of Cagletini sitting in the box Cag!! Takes me right back to dd's babyhood, infancy and childhood. Whenever we bought a new appliance or a new bit of flatpack furniture, dd would virtually take up residence in the leftover cardboard boxes for weeks! She absolutely loved them! Smile

Things a bit different now. DD sat on my bed last night and we had a long discussion about infinity (how can it not have an end?/is nothing actually something?), the universe and what is beyond it, creation, time travel and light years etc and we strayed in to what I believe is now known as quantum physics. I have to admit that her knowledge of this stuff is way beyond my level of understanding (I could muddle through if we were discussing literature or philosophy or art or something but science is not my best subject and I had a pretty crap secondary education) so need to find some books ... anyway, all that is just to say that the cardboard box days were more my
level much simpler ... but I'm proud of her enquiring mind! [Need to get informed pronto though!!!] [Hills if you have any suggestions for a reading list - please let me know! Gamov? Einstein? ??]

Foxes oh dear re: your stressful morning and being confined to barracks. The winter illnesses sometimes seem never-ending at your dcs ages. Hope your dd feels better as the day goes on.

Sounds tough going in your household too at the moment Cordelia.
I know from experience it can really get you down when your dh is constantly working.

Zoo good luck at the dentist tomorrow! Will be thinking of you! And sympathies re: recalcitrant teens!

I am with you on the decluttering front Toostressy. I thought I was doing reasonably well here but it has somehow taken an enormous turn for the worse again here and I am surrounded by bags and boxes of RC which need sorting. (Did a few of the paper piles last night in a bid to find medical papers but there are loads more.)

Ha re: exuberant cooking in terms of fire Cotswold Grin! You are not alone! I'm always setting fire to things; most of my oven gloves have scorch marks! Ta for links!

Those vivid dreams are very strange Bowerbird I only get them very occasionally. Funnily enough, while I was at wreck1, I dreamt that my eldest sister was letting herself in through the gates (she hasn't seen wreck1 yet) and by wierd serendipity, she e-mailed over the weekend to say she was coming to visit. That could just be sheer coincidence though!

Afresh hope ears/throat ok or at least improving

Foolandfitz imagining you in that Cat in the Hat outfit now Grin

Hope you win tonight at the quiz Bowerbird [waves to lone hen]

Cheery wing flaps to Honu Whispers Whoknows Longtime Hills and to anyone else I have missed!

Wow! Great list Zoo!! Star

Steamcloud · 26/02/2018 10:58

Ah yes, meant to say, it is very nice indeed to be back in the friendly clutches of this thread. Mumsnet is certainly getting very um, "snippy" nowadays isn't it when one strays around the boards? It's all blown over now but I managed to get involved in snippiness on an Archers thread of all things over the weekend. Yes, An Archers thread would you believe it? Hmm And I hate snippiness! The world has gone mad I tell you.

GoingGoingGoth · 26/02/2018 11:33

Morning all (just)

It's been one of those mornings, waking up feeling more tired than when I went to bed.

Shopping
Ironing
2nd laundry load in washer

Afreshcuppateaplease · 26/02/2018 11:38

Throat is better now and ears just at the itchy stage so annoying but not sore!

Ds3 is at the stage he will not wear gloves hats shoes or socks. Basically anything he can get off himself he will do. He also has hardly any hair so i dont see his cold clearing up any time soon when his bloody head keeps getting frozen on the school run!

Ta da

Washer on
Dryer on
School run and assorted shit
Nipped to shops

Zoo im not keen on the dentist either! Weirdly i am ok until things make noise e.g. the drill Sad

Hope your dd okay foxes We had poonami this morning from ds3 but think its just his teeth

Afreshcuppateaplease · 26/02/2018 11:39

Agree on the snippyness (sp) of mn these days! Some threads are ridiculous and some posters are almost followed and picked on.

Steamcloud · 26/02/2018 11:46

Agree Afresh it's like people take pride in being unnecessarily brusque or horrible to others somehow. Or simply accept that they may not disagree with it, but someone else has an alternative pov. [sigh]

Glad you aren't feeling too rough today. Goth (sorry, inadvertently missed you off wave list) sounds as though you are sounding rough though. Mondays are always a bit crap imho.

Btw, meant sister hasn't seen wreck 2 below (confusing myself now!) she's obviously visited wreck1 many times.

Steamcloud · 26/02/2018 11:47

Gah! Meant "may not agree with it"!

Sorry, must preview.

Steamcloud · 26/02/2018 11:47

Everyday's a school day although I can't see me rushing out to get a frong. Grin

Don't worry about missing me off SC I've been AWOL the last few days.

Any yet another day when I can't believe how fast the clock is ticking round. Need to motivate myself.

Well I've just finished very tedious office work. And have looked through three more boxes of papers for missing medical stuff - no luck - can't understand where it has gone!!

Also has put me in a very bad mood about future paper decluttering. I can avoid it no longer and those years of procrastination and "putting it off until another day" have caught up with me. I need to get rid. But it is SO tedious going through paper by paper and not quite knowing where to put things and dithering and then putting paper back ... can only stand 30 mins at a time... not looking forward to this at all.

DD is home burdened with hours of hwk. She is getting stuck in though thankfully.

Need to carry on with laundry.

Anyone know why photos might not post on here?

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/02/2018 18:50

Mn is throwing a strop?

SC I assume she has read the horrible science books? suitably gruesome and ds still loves. I will have a think some of the very well know books of science are A level and above kinds of understanding which whilst dd may be able to understand the matter in native tongue the question would be whether she would understand it in English?

The wild hanger teenager who has been rampaging through the house since I got home is currently being tamed with sausage, mash and onion gravy. I am hoping that once heavy sponge covered in custard is shoved in his direction he might stop yelling at me Hmm

Will continue to ponder the accessible science books.

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/02/2018 19:20

march's thread here

Might as well as we are so close to the end of the month when we are finishing this thread this month.

No idea who is doing the links but hey ho we can figure that out as we go.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 26/02/2018 19:30

Mwahahahaa we now have 3 threads

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/02/2018 19:42

Blush I missed Cotswold's link. Ah well we are already to go for March in 2 days then Grin
