Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/01/2018 17:21

Take care of yourself longtime

I am decluttering the only sensible no moving way. I am working on a long standing UFO. A huge embroidery piece. If i am lucky I will have been able to put the finishing touches on the 1st 8th of it. Various sectors have various levels of work but I decided to kill off the most done sector for some motivation. If i can get a second section (another 1/8th) completed before 2nd weekend in Jan that would be great.

I came up with a "word" for the year. It is going to be consolodate. And under that larger aim I am going to try to WIP down and stash down as well as continue the decluttering and other organisational type things.

Going to have to admit starting to get a little twitchy and wanting to be up and doing but zoo is right. Back to work is going to hit hard and I have to debrief from over the holiday shifts with the boss so potentially could be mentally draining.

Hmm plan for tomo:
Wash my bedding
planner construction/completion (well tuesday is planning day)
Could probably run banking errands if I am organised Hmm
And budget if above banking errands get done.
Also finish the floor to my room.

Yeah I am convinced, especially as Wednesday is Antiprocrastination and I am going to aim to tackle the boy dungeon, I am not moving to do anything tonight.

cag we have a small porch but still have exactly the same problems as you describe for your hall. Only with the additional problem that people use it as a dumping ground for bits and bobs of car stuff Hmm

Cagliostro · 01/01/2018 17:21

I have been stuck under a baby for hours now. Time seems to go so fast! Caglets have done a few little chores. But there is loads I should be doing. I was pondering a walk but it’d only be to the coop and I don’t want to spend money to avoid figuring out what the heck to do for dinner (leftovers and party food pretty much gone now).

Cagliostro · 01/01/2018 17:25

Consolidate is a great word Hills!

You’ve reminded me of one thing I can do whilst I have this tiny person snoozing on me, I’m going to go through my NatWest transactions and write down the dates of various bills/standing orders so that they can go in the diary and I can no longer be surprised about having less money several times a month.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/01/2018 17:29

Wow, busy first day of the year!

Warm welcome to Whispers, Theonly, Bendover

Wing flaps to mercury and longtime. Sorry to hear difficult time longtime.

Home bleugh is what we call the home blessing hour that Flylady suggests. I will find a link. Flylady’s idea is that you clean your whole house in an hour. The idea is that your house is (eventually) tidy and decluttered so cleaning it is quick and easy. Hmmmmm. Never works for me so I don’t even try. She suggests home blessing hour / home bleugh on Mondays. Personally, DH and I would rather have a clean house for the weekend so we do it Thursday or Friday.

OP posts:
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/01/2018 17:32

home bleugh info

I will do proper links later but just to say Flylady website has updated at it seems we are actually in zone 1 this week zone 1

Thanks all. My baby nephew has it now Sad my brother cutting his visit short. What a rubbish New year!
I'm freaking out a bit. I hate hate hate sickness bugs, trying to deal with small children when you're sick as wel..I feel like we are doomed to get it! It's horrible just waiting and thinking every symptom might be the start!

Sorry I've done nothing but moan on here recently!

FoolandFitz · 01/01/2018 18:22

longtime Flowers
cag how old is tiny caglet?

Ta-da:
showered
bathroom cleaned
dinner - homemade chicken curry and rice for us & chicken nuggets, yorkshire puds, carrots and pea shoots for DS. I have to rotate the same 3 or 4 foods around for DS as he has a very limited diet and is resistant to new foods.

Need to go for a walk but have tummy ache Sad

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/01/2018 18:35

Welcome back Fooland, hope you feel better soon.

Oh no foxes. Do you have anyone you can call for help if you do all get ill? I realise most people won’t be keen to come into a sick filled house but is there anyone? Or at least does your DD like telly? Maybe even your DS? Start recording good stuff now in case you need to do a lot of duvet days. Buy comics to keep her busy, that kind of thing? Even buy a new toy to have in reserve for DS? Also do you have any dialralyte type stuff. Enough changes of bedding etc?

I’d be tempted to do an online shop / Amazon order now and if nothing else you may feel a bit more prepared. Flowers

Thank you for the welcomes. Am slightly jealous of all those getting snuggly baby cuddles but have had plenty of little people cuddles from my own brood today which has been lovely (aged 5, 7, 10 & 11).

Ta das:
Cooked steak pie dinner (DH does most of the cooking but he's at work this afternoon)
Emptied dishwasher, re-loaded dishwasher and started
Loaded washing machine, unloaded dryer and sorted a basket of washed and dried clothes and put away (just have the other 3 baskets of washed and dried laundry to go ...)
Started family gratitude jar for 2018
Had shower
Resisted buying more candles in the Yankee Candle sale
Put out kitchen bin, food recycling and paper/plastic recycling
Played 2 board games with 5 year old

To do:
Unload and reload dishwasher
Wash non-dishwasher stuff
Crochet as a treat for me which is one of my resolutions Grin

Afreshnewyearplease · 01/01/2018 18:58

Right keep talking hall ways i almost feel motivated enough to tackle mine!

Our hall way is just a long thin one which ends with the stairs and a door to the living room

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/01/2018 19:07

Ooh keep meaning to start family gratitude jar. Maybe today is the day.

Re. hallways, we have an awesome unit from great little trading company which we keep coats and stuff on, will try to find link. I think the idea is to have it down low so the kids can get to it but ours is up high deliberately so they can’t Smile.

It does mean they can’t hang up their coats though so I need to rethink at some point.

foxessocks · 01/01/2018 19:12

Thanks toostressy I feel like we are as prepared as possible! I've tidied and cleaned a lot today so we won't need to do much over the next few days. I've done an online food shop. Dd will watch tv , ds does a bit but not all the time, luckily we do have a lot of new toys at this time of year! Unfortunately the only help we have is my parents and they both have it!

Kids are both in bed asleep already, we are having a cup of tea and then we'll be getting an early night too. Although I'll be awake worrying about every cough or footstep I hear!

Afreshnewyearplease · 01/01/2018 19:14

Ds3 tucked up and snooring!

Our hall pegs are at two heights one for adults one for dc. Dc1 can reach both sets. Dc3 can only get things down not back up but its a start!

Here is the daily summary for Tuesday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

Current zone:-
To clarify, we are in zone 1 this week. I did check yesterday and the website stated zone 5 and even had the correct dates.

Anyway, definitely zone 1 which is the entrance, front porch and dining room. Please have a look through the information on the website at the relevant zones as I know Flylady is keen that we do look at the website.

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 1 is here.

Happy flying everyone.
